Paracetamol children's suppositories dosage. What to do if paracetamol does not help bring down the temperature in a child - video. Release forms, names and composition of Paracetamol

A great concern for every parent is any increase in temperature in the baby. When it exceeds the mark of 38 ° C, many people completely panic, not knowing what to do and how to behave. First of all, you need to call for medical help: an ambulance or a local pediatrician to qualified specialist helped to understand the causes of fever and prescribe treatment. Using suppositories with paracetamol for children will help bring down the temperature before the doctor arrives.

In our country, antipyretic drugs are allowed for use in children: Paracetamol, Ibuprofen, Nimulid and Analgin. However, the safest of this list is paracetamol. WHO defines it as a first-line drug for fever and pain, including in newborns, because it side effects less dangerous than other antipyretic drugs.

It was previously thought that paracetamol has anti-inflammatory properties, so it was prescribed as systemic drug with SARS and other infectious diseases. However, negligible anti-inflammatory activity has been proven to date.

How non-narcotic analgesic paracetamol has an effect on the centers of pain and thermoregulation and heat transfer. He raises pain threshold, increases heat transfer, lowers the temperature.

How to choose the form of antipyretic

All antipyretics are presented in several forms that are convenient to take:

  • Tablets - oral administration;
  • Syrup - oral intake by children;
  • Candles (suppositories) - rectal intake.

The choice of one form or another depends on the age of the child. In newborns, paracetamol is used in the form liquid syrup and candles. In this case, the second option is the most acceptable, since the effect on the gastrointestinal tract is excluded. The use of suppositories reduces the risk of side effects, in part allergic reactions. This is due to the fact that the composition of syrups has sugar, flavorings, flavor enhancers, stabilizers and some other components that cause an allergic reaction in children.

However, in terms of the speed of onset of the effect, suppositories are slightly inferior to syrups, since absorption through the gastrointestinal tract is faster. So, the temperature decreases after taking the syrup for 20-40 minutes, while candles will ease the condition after 40-60 minutes. Their use is undesirable for fevers with a temperature above 39.1 ° C.

Dosage

Paracetamol should only be used when needed.

The key to obtaining the expected effect with a minimal risk of side effects is to follow the instructions exactly in terms of dosage by weight and regularity of intake. The largest number harm from paracetamol was recorded precisely as a result of neglecting the instructions.

Paracetamol is used symptomatically. So, taking it prophylactically or drinking it as a course is unacceptable. Some pediatricians recommend the use of a candle at night at a temperature of about 38 ° C in newborns in order to reinsure in case of increased fever, fever and seizures at night.

AT general case preventive administration is undesirable. Children's suppositories with Paracetamol are used from the first month of life with an infectious or viral fever with a temperature above 38.5 ° C. Only 1 candle can be used at one time. Reception frequency:

  • Babies 1-3 months of life 1-2 candles, but not more than 4 per day;
  • At 3-6 months - 2-3 pieces, no more than 4 doses per day;
  • Older than 6 months, 4 pieces per day.

Candles with paracetamol are available in the following dosages: 0.08 g (children under 6 months), 0.17 g (up to three years), 0.33 g (children over 3 years old). When used outside the specified age category it is recommended to carefully study the instructions and calculate the dosage based on the weight of the baby. So, a candle of 0.33 g for a newborn should be divided into 4 doses.

The general rule for taking drugs containing paracetamol is that the interval between doses should be at least 4 hours.

When the temperature rises above the safe limit at shorter intervals, it is recommended to alternate paracetamol with other antipyretics.

As an analgesic, paracetamol in the form of suppositories is used symptomatically. Usually it is prescribed to children for the period of teething to rest at night. Here, again, this type of drug has an advantage, since its absorption in the large intestine occurs much more slowly than in the gastrointestinal tract.

Summarize

  • The use of paracetamol as an antipyretic and analgesic drug is considered the safest in newborns.
  • Reception should be only symptomatic, it is impossible to take in advance medicine as a preventive measure.
  • You can not independently insert candles with paracetamol components to a child for more than 3 days. If the temperature remains outside the permissible range for longer, you should contact your local doctor.

Although paracetamol is considered one of the safest medicines and its use is allowed in infants, you should first consult with your local pediatrician. Suppositories should be preferred in newborns and children under 1 year old. It is highly recommended not to exceed the indicated dosages! Even candles have different dosage the drug, so when buying, check with the pharmacist the age of the child.

Paracetamol use in children… When a child gets sick, parents try to find the safest and most effective drug, which will quickly put on its feet and will not harm the growing children's body. Most often, the disease creeps up unexpectedly, when only the simplest antipyretic drugs such as Paracetamol and Aspirin are at hand. Questions immediately arise, is it possible to give Paracetamol to a child, how to give it and what is the dose of the medicine? It all depends on the patient's condition, weight and form of medication. It is preferable for children to give Paracetamol syrup, suspension or use suppositories.

About each form in order ...

Children's paracetamol syrup

By appearance paracetamol syrup is yellow liquid, sweet with a tart bitter aftertaste and fruity aroma. The composition of the drug includes paracetamol at the rate of 24 mg per 1 ml of syrup. The list of excipients in the composition of the drug includes sugar, lemon acid, propylene glycol, riboflavin, ethanol, fragrance, sorbitol, sodium benzoate and water. Buy baby syrup can be in a bottle of 50 or 100 ml.

Paracetamol in syrup is especially effective in the manifestations of acute respiratory viral infections and acute respiratory infections. It is prescribed to relieve fever with influenza, chickenpox, measles, rubella and other childhood infectious diseases. He helps with painful teething teeth, muscle pain, headache, after injuries and burns. As in any other form, the syrup belongs to the antipyretic and analgesic drugs of a non-narcotic nature. More recently, this drug was considered the most safe medicine in pediatrics, until cases of paracetamol poisoning became more frequent. As a result of many years of observation, the reasons for this fact were clarified and the group of patients most often suffering from poisoning was identified. They were children under the age of 6. In almost all cases, children suffered from an excess dose of Paracetamol. What is the reason? In the carelessness of the parents, who, through negligence, gave the drug to the child in an adult dose, did not maintain the prescribed interval between doses, continued treatment for more than 3 days. Paracetamol poisoning may be the result of liver or kidney dysfunction. If the baby refuses to eat, this fact can also cause intoxication of the body. Advice to parents: always carefully read the instructions for the use of children's Paracetamol, clearly calculate the dosage, taking into account the age and weight of the baby. And yet, no need to delay calling a doctor or an ambulance medical care hoping that tomorrow everything will work out. A child, especially a very small one, cannot explain to his parents all the unpleasant conditions that accompany him during his illness. The longer he doesn't get proper treatment, the weaker his body becomes, which will later need much more time to recover. It is quite clear that hospitalization is not too pleasant event but it often saves lives. This is stress, both for the child and for the mother, but stress in the name of life and health is the most justified measure. So, is it possible to give paracetamol to a child and how to take it? Yes, it is possible and necessary for fever and pain. The dosage of children's Paracetamol in the form of syrup is as follows: - Children from 3 months of age can be given 0.5 - 1 tsp. syrup 3-4 times a day after at least 4 hours. - Children from 1 to 6 years old are given 1-2 tsp, and children from 6 to 14 years old are given 2-4 tsp. syrup. It is necessary to follow the dependence of mg / kg. A single dose should not be higher than 10-15 mg / kg, respectively, up to 60 mg / kg can be per day. If the drug does not help in an acceptable dosage, you do not need to increase its intake. Perhaps the child's body is not very susceptible to this drug and should be replaced by another. You can try a combination of Analgin and Paracetamol to relieve a feverish state. Analgin and Paracetamol should be given as follows: 0.3 - 0.5 mg / kg of Analgin, and Paracetamol according to the instructions. Frequent use this combination it is impossible, since Analgin strongly affects the blood, contributing to irreversible changes in its composition.

Symptoms of poisoning and overdose

When paracetamol is poisoned, the child complains of abdominal pain, nausea, and may vomit. The skin turns pale, sweating may increase. These symptoms usually appear within 30-60 minutes after taking overdose medicines. If such a condition appears, you should not wait for it to improve, but immediately consult a doctor. Further it will be even worse. To appear fever, low blood pressure, tachycardia, shortness of breath, etc. the doctor will do a gastric lavage, prescribe adsorbents, in especially difficult cases, an antidote is prescribed. Overdose also appears in initial stage nausea and vomiting, then liver intoxication occurs, symptoms appear liver failure. This will only help intensive therapy. Signs of an overdose can usually be determined in a day. So is it still possible to give Paracetamol to a baby? Yes, by eliminating all contraindications and accurately calculating the dosage, following the instructions.

Children's suspension Paracetamol

Paracetamol suspension differs from syrup in that it does not contain sugar and can be used to treat children from 1 month of age. The instructions for the children's suspension indicate the following doses: - At the age of 1-3 months, you can take 2 ml of the suspension, which is equal to 50 mg of Paracetamol in pure. - Children from 3 to 12 months can take 2.5-5 ml of medication. - From 1 to 6 years, the dose is 5-10 ml. - Children from 6 to 14 years old are prescribed 10-20 ml of suspension at a time. In a package with a bottle of suspension, a measuring spoon of 2.5-5 ml is always sold. Before using the drug, shake the bottle to evenly distribute the medicine and measure the dose of Paracetamol for the child well. Based on 1 kg of baby's weight, the norm is to take 10-15 mg of the suspension. A maximum of 60 mg / kg of the drug can be taken per day. Children's suspension Paracetamol is the safest in comparison with other forms. It has a negative effect on the child's body only as an allergen with individual sensitivity. There are candles at the level with the suspension.

suppositories Paracetamol

Candles are produced in the following dosage of active paracetamol: 1.0, 0.5, 0.125, 0.25 g. Candles can be used by adults and children from 3 months. Each age has its own dosage. Paracetamol in suppositories is best used at night, as they act slowly (the effect is possible after 50 minutes or more), but for a long time. If a child has an upset stomach or inflammatory processes in the rectum are observed, the medicine in this form is unacceptable. The dose of the drug can be calculated based on the dosage described above, taking into account the body weight and age of the baby. At high temperatures, suppositories can be used by pregnant women (in the course of studies, no negative teratogenic effects on the fetus have been identified).

Paracetamol for children in tablets

Can I give paracetamol tablets to my child? The instructions for children's Paracetamol tablets indicate the age at which the drug can be taken - this is 2 years. Accordingly, the dosage at this age is half a tablet of 200 mg. Children from 6 years of age are prescribed one tablet every 4-6 hours. Adult dose is 2 tablets of 200 mg. Tablets are rarely given to a child. Generally, a syrup or suspension is preferred. They are more pleasant and the child rarely refuses them. In addition, not every baby knows how to swallow a pill. It follows that the mother needs to crush it, but even in this form the child does not always agree to take the medicine. Paracetamol for children in tablets has the same indications, contraindications, precautions as all other forms of the drug. The undoubted advantage of tablets is their price. They cost about 3 rubles for a pack of 10 tablets. The tablet can be given to the baby dissolved in slightly sweetened water. This increases the likelihood of taking the entire required dose of children's Paracetamol.

Especially often people get sick colds in autumn-winter period during the rainy and cold seasons. And the sensations of the disease cannot be attributed to pleasant ones: sore throat, headaches, runny nose, cough and high fever. In this state, it is impossible to work or rest. And even night sleep difficult due to fever and congestion respiratory tract. And children endure colds and flu even harder than adults.

Operating principle

Fortunately, there is a cure that every day relieves the suffering of millions of colds around the world. This remedy is paracetamol. Paracetamol belongs to the class of analgesics and antipyretics. In addition, it has a weak anti-inflammatory effect.

By chemical structure it is a derivative of aniline and is one of the main metabolites of phenacetin, a substance previously widely used as an analgesic and antipyretic. The action of paracetamol is to influence the centers of pain and temperature regulation in the brain and to suppress the synthesis of prostaglandins - physiologically active substances that also affect the increase in temperature and pain sensitivity.

The drug begins to act very quickly, already an hour after ingestion. It easily crosses the blood-brain barrier. Most of the substance is metabolized in the liver. Paracetamol can also be used as a pure analgesic, for the relief of pain not associated with the inflammatory process.

Currently, paracetamol is sold not only in its pure form, but also as part of other antipyretic and analgesic drugs, such as Antigrippin, Panadol, Theraflu, Fervex and some others.

Misconceptions about the drug

Many people have misconceptions about the drug and its analogues and how they should be used.

First, understand that paracetamol does not cure colds or the flu. It does not affect either viruses or bacteria that cause these diseases, and does not increase immunity. It is intended only to relieve the symptoms of the disease - pain and high temperature. The anti-inflammatory effect of the drug is also extremely weak.

Secondly, paracetamol and its analogues are not intended for the prevention infectious diseases. Considering a large number of side effects of the drug, such "prevention" and permanent reception funds (over a week) can lead to severe poisoning. It is unacceptable to take paracetamol outside the period of illness.

Thirdly, it is far from always necessary to bring down the temperature during an illness with the help of a drug. It is worth remembering that elevated temperature is defensive reaction body to help it fight infection. Artificially lowering the temperature only complicates immune system task. And as a result, the disease lasts longer than usual. Therefore, it is recommended to use antipyretics only at temperatures exceeding + 38ºС, when hyperthermia becomes dangerous for the body.

Description

The main form of release is paracetamol tablets. The dosage of the active substance in tablets can be different - 200, 250, 325 or 500 mg.

There are also such dosage forms like paracetamol capsules, paracetamol syrup and paracetamol children's suspension. Paracetamol rectal suppositories are also available (suppositories for children). In all cases, the drug is accompanied by a detailed annotation, which is recommended to study before use.

Paracetamol has several indications for use:

  • Pain of various origins
  • neuralgia
  • Fever in infectious diseases
  • Hyperthermia caused by vaccination

  • Individual intolerance
  • Severe liver and kidney dysfunction
  • 1 trimester of pregnancy
  • Chronic alcoholism

In the 2nd and 3rd trimesters of pregnancy, the drug should be used with caution and under the supervision of a physician. Since paracetamol enters breast milk, it is not recommended to use it during lactation. If, nevertheless, the drug is necessary, then the child should receive artificial feeding.

Paracetamol has a lot of side effects:

  • Risk of anemia, changes in the number of platelets and white blood cells
  • Tachycardia
  • Liver and kidney dysfunctions
  • Diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, bloating, abdominal pain
  • allergic reactions

If the dosage exceeds the maximum allowable, then this can lead to severe dysfunction of the kidneys and liver, gastric bleeding.

Composition

In addition to the active substance of the same name, the composition of the tablets includes a number of auxiliary components:

  • primogel

The suspension contains, in addition to the main substance:

  • flavoring
  • dye
  • glycerol

Interaction with other substances

It is not recommended to take paracetamol simultaneously with barbiturates, with isoniazid, zidovudine due to an increased risk of liver damage. Rifampicin reduces therapeutic effect drug, and Activated carbon reduces its bioavailability.

Simultaneous use of the drug with acetylsalicylic acid, codeine and caffeine enhances the therapeutic effect of these drugs.

paracetamol and alcohol

AT recent times more and more data is accumulating about how dangerous it is to drink alcohol at the same time as the drug. Paracetamol is already not very friendly to the liver, but when used simultaneously with ethanol, the hepatotoxic effect of the drug increases several times. Therefore, in no case should you take alcoholic beverages, even in moderate doses, during treatment with the drug! It is not uncommon for people to end up in the hospital with severe liver damage after a cold pill and a glass of wine taken one after another for several hours. So you should choose one of the two - either paracetamol or alcohol.

Instructions for use for adults

Unless otherwise prescribed by a doctor, adults should take the drug three to four times a day when using tablets. Dosage - 350-500 mg. The maximum daily dose is 4 g, the maximum single dose is 1.5 g.
