Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Azoximer bromide has a complex effect: immunomodulatory, detoxifying, antioxidant, moderate anti-inflammatory.

The basis of the mechanism of the immunomodulatory action of Azoximer bromide is a direct effect on phagocytic cells and natural killers, as well as stimulation of antibody formation, the synthesis of interferon-alpha and interferon-gamma.

The detoxifying and antioxidant properties of Azoximer bromide are largely determined by the structure and high-molecular nature of the drug. Azoximer bromide increases the body's resistance to local and generalized infections of bacterial, fungal and viral etiology. Restores immunity in secondary immunodeficiency states caused by various infections, injuries, complications after surgery, burns, autoimmune diseases, malignant neoplasms, the use of chemotherapeutic agents, cytostatics, steroid hormones.

A characteristic feature of Azoximer bromide when applied locally (intranasally, sublingually) is the ability to activate the factors of early protection of the body against infection: the drug stimulates the bactericidal properties of neutrophils, macrophages, enhances their ability to absorb bacteria, increases the bactericidal properties of saliva and mucous secretions of the upper respiratory tract.

Azoximer bromide blocks soluble toxic substances and
microparticles, has the ability to remove toxins, salts of heavy metals from the body, inhibits lipid peroxidation, both by intercepting free radicals and by eliminating catalytically active Fe2+ ions. Azoximer bromide reduces the inflammatory response by normalizing the synthesis of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines.

Azoximer bromide is well tolerated, has no mitogenic, polyclonal activity, antigenic properties, does not have an allergenic, mutagenic, embryotoxic, teratogenic and carcinogenic effect. Azoximer bromide
odorless and tasteless, does not have a local irritant effect when applied
on the mucous membranes of the nose and oropharynx.

Pharmacokinetics

Azoximer bromide is characterized by rapid absorption and a high rate of distribution in the body. The maximum concentration of the drug in the blood when administered intramuscularly is reached after 40 minutes. The half-life for different ages is from 36 to 65 hours. The bioavailability of the drug is high: more than 90% when administered parenterally.

Azoximer bromide is rapidly distributed to all organs and tissues of the body, penetrates the blood-brain and blood-ophthalmic barriers. There is no cumulative effect. In the body of Azoximer, bromide undergoes biodegradation to low molecular weight oligomers, it is excreted mainly by the kidneys, with faeces -
no more than 3%.

Indications for use

It is used in adults and children from 6 months for the treatment and prevention of infectious and inflammatory diseases (viral, bacterial and fungal etiology), in the stage of exacerbation and remission.

pharmachologic effect

Polyoxidonium® tablets 12 mg has an immunomodulatory effect. The drug increases the body's resistance to bacterial, fungal and viral infections. The basis of the mechanism of the immunomodulatory action of Polyoxidonium® is an increase in the ability of leukocytes to phagocytize microbes, to stimulate the production of cytokines that activate the immune system at initially low levels, and to enhance antibody formation to infectious agents. Polyoxidonium® activates peripheral blood phagocytes and tissue macrophages, which contributes to faster elimination of the pathogen from the body in the presence of an infection focus. In addition, Polyoxidonium® activates lymphoid cells located in the regional lymph nodes, namely B cells that produce secretory IgA. When applied sublingually, Polyoxidonium® activates lymphoid cells located in the nasal cavity, Eustachian tubes, oropharynx, and bronchi. In addition, Polyoxidonium® activates the bactericidal properties of saliva. When administered orally, Polyoxidonium® also activates lymphoid cells located in the intestinal lymph nodes. The consequence of this is an increase in the resistance of the respiratory, gastrointestinal tract and ENT organs to infectious agents. Along with the immunomodulating effect, Polyoxidonium® has a pronounced detoxification and antioxidant activity, has the ability to remove toxins, heavy metal salts from the body, and inhibits lipid peroxidation. These properties are determined by the structure and high molecular nature of Polyoxidonium®. The use of Polyoxidonium® against the background of secondary immunodeficiency conditions can increase the effectiveness and reduce the duration of treatment, significantly reduce the use of antibiotics, bronchodilators, glucocorticosteroids, and lengthen the period of remission. The drug is well tolerated, does not have mitogenic, polyclonal activity, antigenic properties, does not have an allergenic, mutagenic, embryotoxic, teratogenic and carcinogenic effect.

Pharmacokinetics

Polyoxidonium® tablets 12 mg after oral administration is rapidly absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, bioavailability is approximately 50%. The maximum plasma concentration is reached 3 hours after ingestion. The pharmacokinetics of Polyoxidonium® is linear (plasma concentration is proportional to the dose taken). Polyoxidonium® is a hydrophilic compound. The apparent volume of distribution is approximately 0.5 l / kg, which indicates that the drug is distributed mainly in the interstitial fluid. The half-life is 35 minutes, the half-life is 18 hours. In the body, it is hydrolyzed to oligomers, which are excreted mainly by the kidneys. There is no cumulative effect.

Special conditions

In case of pain at the injection site with intramuscular injection, the drug is dissolved in 1 ml of a 0.25% solution of procaine if the patient does not have an increased individual sensitivity to procaine. When administered intravenously (drip), it should not be dissolved in protein-containing infusion solutions.

Information provided

Every person throughout his life strives to strengthen the immune system and protect himself from various diseases. Every year, the relevance of such aspirations is growing, which is associated with climate deterioration, environmental pollution, etc. Many will say that today there are no problems with strengthening the immune system, since pharmacies are full of various types of immunomodulators, which are produced not only abroad. One of the many modern domestically produced immunomodulators is a remedy called Polyoxidonium. It is about him that will be discussed in this article. Let's find out in more detail what the drug is prescribed for, how it works, where it is used, and why it is popular?

Features of Polyoxidonium

Polyoxidonium is a little-known drug, but it is very often prescribed by doctors to children to strengthen immunity. Polyoxidonium is also prescribed for adults, if there is such a need. Most doctors prefer this drug, arguing that the best immunomodulator simply does not exist.

Polyoxidonium is the best drug for its intended purpose, as it has a complex effect. With its help, it is possible not only to create a barrier to the penetration of viruses and bacteria, but also to prevent the spread of diseases and various complications. With the use of Polyoxidonium, it has been repeatedly observed that the patient's state of health improves. With its help, the human body is able to resist various viruses, bacteria, fungi and other pathogenic microorganisms.

Polyoxidonium is actively involved in the procedure for eliminating signs of the disease, due to its high immunomodulatory properties. In addition to immunomodulatory, this drug also has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, detoxifying and anti-inflammatory properties. The drug under consideration is based on a substance such as bromide azoximer.

The main advantages of Polyoxidation include the following factors:

  1. high speed effect. The tool has a positive effect within 1-2 hours after its administration. Such a high-speed effect is achieved through a special and unique structure of the drug. Polyoxidonium in its composition has active components that absorb pathogenic microorganisms and harmful particles, and then remove them from the body.
  2. Versatility. The drug has an individual immunomodulatory effect, so it is prescribed to patients who have problems with immunity.
  3. Safety. The composition of the medicine includes only components and substances of natural origin, which do not pose a threat to human life. It should be noted that the drug contains a whole range of useful components, but at the same time, it has an anti-allergic property. The drug has no side effects, which makes it even safer.
  4. Wide choice of dosage forms. The drug is available in the following forms: tablets, injections, rectal suppositories. A wide selection of forms of release allows you to choose the most optimal treatment option or strengthen immunity.

The effectiveness of the drug is confirmed not only scientifically, but also by the reviews of patients who used it to strengthen immunity and treat various diseases. This drug is not only approved for use, but it is also included in the list of essential drugs.

How this drug works

The constituent substances of the drug come into contact with the membranes of all human immune cells. Through this interaction, the activity of monocytes, microphages, and neutrophils is restored. Upon awakening, these immune cells begin an active process of capturing foreign microorganisms that are present in the body. Through such an active awakening, an increase in the efficiency of the functioning of the immune system is observed.

A person finds a decrease in pain, symptoms of the disease, as well as a decrease in the degree of tissue damage. Some time after the first intake of the drug Polyoxidonium, a complete restoration of immunity is observed, which means that the person will soon recover and get better.

It's important to know! It has been proven that Polyoxidonium in any form of release is not capable of causing complications, which makes it more effective and safer.

The advantage of the drug can also be called the fact that after it enters the body, it independently determines the indicators of immunity. If the immune system does not need additional strengthening, then the drug has no effect, and in the opposite case, it helps to increase the level of protection. Polyoxidonium regulates immunity indicators and brings them to a certain level. The drug is not only effective in viral, bacterial and fungal diseases, but also allows you to accelerate wound healing even during the rehabilitation period after surgery.

The medicinal properties of Polyoxidonium are characterized by the following features:

  1. The medicine allows you to quickly and effectively eliminate pain and intoxication syndromes.
  2. Reduces the degree of tissue damage.
  3. Allows you to prevent the development of various kinds of complications.
  4. Reduce the duration of treatment several times.
  5. Strengthen the body's defense against the effects of various negative factors.
  6. Increase the duration of the anti-inflammatory effect.
  7. Reduce the toxicity of antibiotics, glucocorticosteroids and cytostatics if they are taken simultaneously with Polyoxidonium.
  8. Increase the efficiency of human organs and systems.
  9. Improve your well-being and lift your spirits.

Polyoxidonium is effective not only for a weakened immune system, but also for an organism that is sufficiently protected. Already after taking the first dose of the drug, an active process of confrontation with hostile microorganisms is launched.

It's important to know! Polyoxidonium is the first immunomodulator that has a detoxifying property.

This means that the drug is based on a large number of links through which the adsorption of toxic substances is carried out, as well as their removal from the body. This advantage is very useful if a person has acute infectious diseases in which it is necessary to bring the person to his senses. In acute infectious diseases, symptoms such as weakness, muscle aches, headaches, cough appear. After applying Polyoxidonium injections, these symptoms disappear on the first day.

Features of the use of Polyoxidonium

Immunomodulators are substances by which the immune system is increased and strengthened. For a speedy recovery, it is necessary to take immunomodulators. The most effective of the existing drug options is precisely Polyoxidonium. These drugs allow you to quickly achieve the desired result, as well as fix it for a long time, provided that the medication is taken correctly.

The drug is indicated for use in patients who have signs and symptoms of a weakening of the protective function of the body. The drug is available in various forms, which have specific indications for use. Consider when it is better to use tablets, and in what cases it is preferable to give injections for injections.

  1. Tablets. This form of release is the most popular and in demand, as it is due to such an advantage as ease of use. Tablets are used for the development of diseases of the respiratory system, ear, throat and nose, as well as for sinusitis, bronchitis, otitis media, acute respiratory viral infections, and even with a herpetic rash.
  2. Candles. This form of release of the drug has found its application in the development of diseases such as tuberculosis, arthritis, dermatitis of unknown origin, colpitis, pyelonephritis, cystitis and other diseases of internal organs and systems.
  3. Injections for injections. 4. Drop solution. It has similar indications for use as tablets.

Polyoxidonium is effective in all respects. Even if a person has no diseases, the drug is allowed to be taken as prescribed by a doctor as a prophylactic against inflammation and complications. The medicine helps to get rid of psychophysical stress, acclimatize to various weather changes and changes in terrain, and also restore the intestinal microflora when using antibiotic drugs.

Presence of contraindications

Like any drug, a drug called Polyoxidonium has contraindications, but the good news is the fact that their number is minimal. The main and only contraindications to the use of Polyoxidonium are:

  • the period of bearing a child;
  • breastfeeding period.

These are the two main contraindications, according to which the manufacturer strongly prohibits the use of an immunomodulator. But in addition to these two factors, there are some more that are of considerable importance:

  1. If the patient has an individual intolerance to the drug. This happens extremely rarely, but still an allergy to the drug cannot be ruled out.
  2. It is not recommended to use the remedy in the form of suppositories and injections for children under 6 months of age. Tablets can be taken no earlier than 12 years of age.
  3. If there are problems with the kidneys, the drug should be excluded, as this can provoke complications.

It is worth emphasizing that if the doctor prescribes the drug, knowing about the patient's problems with the kidneys, then it can be used only under medical supervision. The drug does not cause the development of side effects. The manufacturer characterizes this tool as the most effective and safe immunomodulator. The drug does not adversely affect the circulatory, cardiovascular, digestive, nervous and other human systems. In the course of its application, only positive changes are observed.

Polyoxidonium for adults: rules for use

The immunomodulator can be used not only for children, but also for adults. But how should the drug be taken correctly? This needs to be looked into in more detail. First of all, you need to know that the use of the drug is required only on prescription. Even if the patient feels a drop in strength, energy and a deterioration in well-being, then initially it is required to visit a therapist who, if necessary, will prescribe Polyoxidonium.

Tablets. Tablets should be taken by swallowing them and then drinking plenty of water. Drinking tablets with tea, coffee, soda is prohibited, as this will lead to a decrease in the effectiveness of the product. You can also put the tablets under the tongue and dissolve. Tablets are taken exclusively before meals 20-30 minutes before a meal.

Depending on the diseases that need to be cured with Polyoxidonium, the dosage of taking the tablets varies. In case of inflammation of the oral cavity and pharynx, as well as the nasal cavity and ears, the drug is prescribed in the amount of 2 tablets, the intake of which should be divided into 2 times. If the patient has serious complications of the respiratory tract, then you need to take 2 tablets 2 times a day.

For herpes and other types of infectious diseases of the oral cavity and skin, it is necessary to take 2 tablets 3 times a day. The dosage of one tablet is 6 mg. The duration of the prevention or treatment of diseases with tablets should not exceed 15 days.

Candles. The release form of Polyoxidonium in the form of suppositories comes in two dosages: 6 and 12 mg, respectively. A dosage of 6 mg is intended for preventive purposes, and 12 mg for medicinal purposes. Candles can be inserted both into the rectum after preliminary emptying, and into the vagina if women have problems in the gynecological part.

In the presence of chronic ailments, as well as allergies and in order to prevent acute respiratory viral infections, it is recommended to use rectal suppositories. Initially, during the first three days, it is necessary to apply the medicine daily, and then it is necessary to do a 2-day interval. For the prevention of herpes, one suppository of 6 mg should be administered every other day.

It's important to know! The course of treatment with suppositories lasts from 10 to 15 days.

If the patient is prone to chronic immunodeficiency, then suppositories should be used at a dosage of 6 mg twice a week. Such a course of treatment can last from 2 to 12 months. If the patient has problems in the urological or gynecological part, then 12 mg suppositories should be used every day for 3 days, and then switch to the use of suppositories every three days.

Polyoxidonium is effective in the fight against tuberculosis. For the prevention and treatment of tuberculosis, suppositories should be used at a dosage of 12 mg for 3 days, and then the regimen should be simplified and treatment should be continued every two days. When the main course ends, the doctor prescribes suppositories of 6 mg 2 times a week for 2-3 months as a preventive measure.

Injections. For adults, doctors most often prescribe Polyoxidonium in the form of injections. Indications for the appointment of injections are the following types of diseases:

  • herpes;
  • rheumatoid arthritis;
  • inflammation of the respiratory and genitourinary systems;
  • allergic diseases.

The scheme for the use of injections for such indications is as follows: the drug in the amount of 6 mg is administered intramuscularly every other day or 2 times a week. The duration of treatment is 5 to 10 injections. Treatment regimens may differ, depending on the disease itself, its form and complications.

In case of acute signs of allergic diseases, Polyoxidonium in the form of injections is administered intravenously or a dropper is placed. If the patient has signs of renal failure, then no more than 2 injections per week are allowed. Important attention should be paid to the question of how it is necessary to properly dilute the solution?

The solution is diluted immediately before the intramuscular injection procedure itself. The drug should not be stored diluted. Ampoule Polyoxidonium must be diluted with distilled water or saline. How to dilute the drug with these substances? To do this, dilute Polyoxidonium 6 mg with one of these substances in an amount of 2 ml. If intravenous administration of the drug is planned, then Hemodez-N, Dextrose solution 5%, Reopoliglyukin or simply saline solution are added to the solution. After all the substances are combined and thoroughly mixed, you can put a dropper.

Is Polyoxidonium allowed for children?

When a doctor prescribes Polyoxidonium for a small child, parents have a considerable number of questions that doctors have to answer with the arrival of each new mother.

It should be noted that Polyoxidonium is widely used in pediatric practice. Approximately 20 years ago, the drug went on sale, so during this period it has already managed to win the attention and trust of parents and doctors. The drug is allowed to be used for children from 6 months of age. This makes it clear that the drug is really safe and is not capable of provoking complications.

If the child is often more likely to have respiratory diseases, then this negatively affects the protective function of the body. Immunity weakens, there is a violation of the efficiency of various organs and systems of a person, and chronic or inflammatory processes develop. Viral respiratory diseases can cause serious complications in children, such as pneumonia, sinusitis, otitis media, and even pyoderma.

So that viruses do not provoke serious complications, the doctor prescribes a course of treatment with immunomodulators. Treatment is prescribed only by a doctor, but not independently. If you approach the choice of the drug incorrectly, then this will only lead to a deterioration in the well-being of the child. Polyoxidonium is one of the best immunomodulators, which has been tested not only by time, but also by experience. It is effective not only for the prevention and treatment of ailments in adults, but also in children. How to properly use the drug for children, we will find out further.

Rules for the use of Polyoxidonium for children

Drops. For children, a drug such as Polyoxidonium is best used in the form of drops. This application is simple and painless. To begin with, the drops should be properly prepared. To do this, add 20 drops of distilled water to the 3 mg lyophilisate. After that, the solution should be thoroughly mixed and applied. Such a ready-made solution can be stored for a week in a cold place, but not frozen.

Drops are used in the following dosage:

  • if the weight of the baby is up to 5 kg - 5 drops;
  • with a weight of 5 to 10 kg - 10 drops;
  • with a weight of 10 to 15 kg - 15 drops;
  • with a weight of 15 to 20 kg - 20 drops.

Droplets should be dripped onto the tongue or into the spout. The above dosage is daily, but not one-time. The indicated number of drops can be divided equally, and dripped at regular intervals. The duration of treatment should not exceed 5-10 days.

Candles. This form of release, like candles, is used for children only in rare cases. There are certain indications for this, for example, exacerbation of a cold, herpes, or for the prevention of influenza and SARS. Candles should be used every other day for 10 days.

Injections. Injections are given to children even less often than candles are placed. The main indication for injections is the exacerbation or complication of diseases and pathologies. For injections, ampoules of the drug are used in an amount of 3 mg. A bottle of Polyoxidanium is mixed with saline, after which it is injected intramuscularly. It is worth noting that it is allowed to perform intravenous administration, only with the help of a dropper for children from 5-6 years old.

Immunomodulator injections are absolutely painless, but it is very important that the drug is administered slowly. Injections are given mainly every other day for 15 days.

Tablets. Children are allowed to be treated with tablets from the age of 12. Prevention of chronic, acute and seasonal diseases is carried out according to the scheme of taking 1 tablet in the morning and evening for a week. Often, children are advised to dissolve the pill, but a more detailed method of administration should be clarified with the doctor.

The effectiveness of Polyoxidonium in gynecology

Women very often face diseases of the genital organs. The reasons for this trend have not yet been clarified, but at the next visit to the gynecologist, the discovery of new pathologies or abnormalities is not ruled out. The most common female diseases are:

  1. Endometritis.
  2. Salpingitis.
  3. Oophoritis.
  4. Pelvic peritonitis.
  5. Ovarian cysts.
  6. Erosion.

Treatment by traditional methods with the help of antibacterial drugs does not lead to recovery. This is due to various factors, but the main one is the lack of impact on local immunity. If you do not use immunomodulators that will help strengthen the immune system and create a protective barrier, this will lead to the progression of the disease and the development of complications. If you use Polyoxidonium for the treatment of gynecological diseases, you can achieve the following results:

  • speed up the healing process;
  • normalize reproductive function;
  • reduce the number of pathogenic bacteria in the vaginal cavity;
  • exclude the development of relapses;
  • improve ultrasound performance.

It's important to know! It is noted that women who periodically take a course of taking immunomodulators meet with gynecological, as well as other types of diseases, extremely rarely.

It is important to note the fact that immunomodulators create a protective barrier that prevents the penetration of various pathogenic microorganisms, as well as fungi, into the body. Such a common problem as thrush can be eliminated by taking the immunomodulator Polyoxidonium.

Based on all of the above, we can summarize and note that Polyoxidonium is the best domestic immunomodulator, without which it is simply not rational to treat various diseases. The drug is suitable for children, adults and even the elderly. It has practically no contraindications, but at the same time it is quite effective for any pathologies.
