Lemongrass juice recipe. Lemon and lemon juice: benefits and harms. Procurement and storage

In the Far East, in the cedar and broad-leaved forests, twisting around trees, a unique liana grows, reaching 15 meters or more in the local forests. AT last years it can be found more and more often in family gardens throughout Russia. If you grind any part of this plant, whether it be leaves, bark or fruits, then you immediately feel a characteristic lemon smell, for which the liana got its name - lemongrass.

Generic scientific name Schizandra derived from the Greek words schizo"- "to divide" and " andros"- "man" and is associated with dioecious flowers.
The genus Schisandra has 14 species. Only one grows in our country -. The specific name - Chinese is given according to the place of growth - China. This plant was known in Chinese medicine almost a thousand years ago under the name wu-wei-tzu - the fruit of the five tastes. The pulp of the fruit is very sour (sourer than lemon), the skin is sweet, the seeds have an unpleasant and burning taste, and the whole fruit together is salty, tart and generally inedible.
In Chinese medicine lemongrass ranks second in importance after ginseng, and in the old days was necessarily included in the list of taxes paid to the emperor. And, as it was established by scientists in the middle of the 20th century, such an assessment of lemongrass is quite objective. Schisandra fruits accumulate up to 350-580 mg per 100 g of vitamin C fruits (and this means that even our medicinal daily requirement), a relatively large amount of vitamin P, carotene, there is vitamin E, pectin, micro and macro elements. They are rich citric acid(up to 12%), and in terms of sugar content (20%) they are not inferior to grapes. All parts of the plant have essential oils. The main, unique value of lemongrass is the presence of specific substances in it - lignans. They accumulate in leaves, noticeably in greater quantities - in fruits (especially seeds), stem bark and even more in the bark of rhizomes. One of them - schizandrin - has a stimulating effect on the human nervous system, somewhat similar to the action brazil nuts cola. It enhances physical and mental performance, serves effective tool stimulation of the cardiovascular and central nervous systems. The founder of medicinal gardening, Professor L. I. Vigorov, wrote that lemongrass “should be remembered in case of loss of strength and decreased efficiency, depression, the need to ensure high concentration when performing a particularly important task or especially hard work.” At the same time lemongrass is general tonic that increase the body's resistance to adverse conditions environment.
Unusual properties of fruits lemongrass, which we now call tonic, has long been known to hunters of the Far East. They dried the berries, prepared them for the future for the whole winter. a handful of such dried fruits allowed them to get along with meager food and, without feeling tired, drive the sable for days. In addition, the use of lemongrass fruits in food sharpened night vision.
Pharmacological studies of lemongrass were carried out in our country during the Great Patriotic War, after which his drugs were delivered to hospitals and contributed to the restoration of the strength of the wounded soldiers. Lemongrass tincture was also used to improve visual acuity in pilots who made night flights.
In my garden near Moscow, there is a whole wall of lemongrass (supported by iron pipes), and I am provided with its healing help to restore strength all year round. In early spring, when pruning of trees begins in the garden, I boil its young branches (something about 20 minutes) and drink this life-giving drink with pleasure, somewhere even with a lemon smell or taste. In the summer I brew tea from the leaves. Each 100 g of leaves contains 40-50 mg of a tonic, which corresponds to half of its daily allowance. For me personally, this is enough. In August-September, I add some berries with stalks to tea leaves (or without it). I especially like to brew tea from dry lemongrass, raspberries and currants. I make the ratio according to my feelings.
I will bring recommendations and on special brewing of tonic tea from dried lemongrass fruits: fruits (1 tablespoon) boil in 200 ml of water in an enamel bowl for 10 minutes, leave for 24 hours, strain and add sugar (to taste). I try to dry the leaves and twigs for the winter. I do it in August. For brewing tonic tea, 10 g of dry material per 1 liter of boiling water is recommended. In order not to store a pile of dried leaves, they can be passed through a coffee grinder, and the resulting powder stored in tightly sealed jars. Lemongrass leaf tea is considered one of the best natural tea substitutes. It well relieves fatigue, soothes, restores strength and also has a lemon flavor.
In August - early September, berries ripen - bright, reddish-orange. In order to restore strength if necessary, it is enough to eat them with the skin in the amount of 20-50 g. But the fruits are too sour, and somehow I cannot consume them in such quantities. I usually add a few stemmed berries to my tea leaves. Ripe fruits hang on the vine for about a month. Then I pick them up with brushes and dry them. It is ideal to do this in a drying cabinet at a temperature of 60 degrees, with a break for 3-4 days. Craftsmen got the hang of drying them in the oven gas stove with open door. And I dry the fruits of lemongrass on the country terrace, on a table covered with clean paper, which I periodically change. Without separating from the stalks, I pack in paper bags or linen bags. In winter, I just chew them dry or make tea.
Juice can also be made from dry fruits in winter: 1 tbsp. place a spoonful of dry berries in an enameled saucepan, pour 1 glass of water, close the lid and boil for 10 minutes, then leave for 10-12 hours, strain, add sugar to taste, heat until the sugar dissolves, pour into small bottles, refrigerate and use as needed. But it is better, of course, to make juice from fresh berries. It can be simply squeezed out and poured into sterile bottles. Even diluted 10 times with water, lemongrass juice retains a bright red color, a unique refreshing sour taste and aroma. It is important that in well-closed glassware, it is stored in the refrigerator without spoiling for a long time. But still, it is more reliable to prepare lemongrass juice with sugar. 75% sugar syrup (ratio 1:3) is added to the squeezed juice and heated to 75-85 degrees. Then filter, pour into hot sterilized glass jars and pasteurized: half-liter - 15 minutes, liter - 20 minutes. To increase the overall tone and performance, juice is added to tea - from 1 teaspoon to 1 cup. But just don't do it every day. To give tonic properties, beautiful color, slight acidity and light lemon flavor, it is good to add a little juice to kissels, compotes and any drinks.
And for the winter, lemongrass can be prepared in the form of fresh berries in sugar. The berries are slightly dried, covered with a double amount of sugar, mixed, placed in glass jars, covered with lids or paper and stored in a cool place. Used as an additive to tea.
without losing medicinal properties lemongrass, for the winter it can be prepared and mashed with sugar. Add sugar (60-65%) to the mashed fruits (35-40%), mix thoroughly to evenly distribute the sugar, heat to a temperature of 70 ° and package in hot sterilized glass jars. Pasteurize in boiling water: half-liter jars - 20 minutes, liter - 25 minutes, three-liter - 60 minutes, then immediately roll up.
So, in lemongrass, all parts of the vine turn out to be healing, and they can be used both in fresh, and prepared in a certain way for the future. But still the greatest healing power lemongrass, like most plants, in seeds: to restore strength per day, only 0.5-1 g of seed powder is enough. Therefore, when preparing certain preparations from fruits, do not throw away the seeds, but collect, wash, dry (possible on paper) and grind in a coffee grinder to a powder. The tincture of the seeds is very valuable in medicinal terms. It is used as a tonic to restore strength after surgery, with hypotension, gastritis with hyperacidity and other diseases. Take as directed by a doctor, 30 drops at a time three times a day. Making this tincture is very easy. The seeds washed from the pulp are crushed, poured with 70% alcohol or vodka and insisted for two weeks.
Here are some recipes for the use of lemongrass in the treatment of a number of diseases. As a rule, most of these serious diseases cannot be cured only with lemongrass (as, indeed, with any herbs), but the state of health improves with prolonged consumption.
At diabetes useful tincture of 20-40 drops in the morning and afternoon. Seed powder 1 g twice a day - in the morning and in the afternoon. Decoction: pour 10 g of dried fruits into 1 glass hot water, boil for 15 minutes, strain and bring to the original volume. Take 1 tbsp. spoon morning and afternoon.
The same decoction will help improve eyesight. The method of reception is the same. Lemongrass tincture ( pharmacy drug): 20-30 drops 2 times in the first half of the day. Fresh fruits: in any form no more than 2-5 fruits 2 times in the first half of the day. Seed powder 1 g twice a day.
With inflammation of the kidneys, take powder from the seeds, 1 g three times a day.
With asthenic and asthenodepressive conditions, tincture will help: 20-40 drops 2 times in the first half of the day.
With vegetative-vascular dystonia, the same decoction of dry fruits is recommended as with diabetes. The method of reception is the same.
To regulate acidity gastric juice(with hypo- and hyperacid gastritis) use seed powder (2 g) once.
With tuberculosis, bronchial asthma, bronchitis, seed powder is useful: 1 g three times a day.
For the treatment of eczema and inflammatory diseases skin ointment is recommended - the pulp of the fruit is insisted on water or alcohol, thickened at a temperature of 60-80 °, applied to the affected area.
Lemongrass- powerful remedy. That is why it should be used in any form carefully: only periodically and, as they often write in the literature, "under the supervision of a doctor." It is contraindicated in hypertensive nervous excitement and insomnia, stomach ulcers, acute disorder cardiac activity.
Lemongrass planted in the garden becomes not only our healer, but also a wonderful decorative ornament. Its vines with glossy foliage picturesquely adorn pavilions, verandas, and walls. In their own way, they are attractive in spring, colored with white and white-pink, waxy, pleasantly smelling flowers. The vine looks spectacular in the fall, covered with bright orange clusters of fruits. Whoever doesn’t have lemongrass in the garden yet - get it urgently, you won’t regret it.
You can buy seedlings in Moscow - at the All-Russian Exhibition Center, in pavilion No. 23, in gardening stores, and in specialized markets.
