Gout is a dangerous disease that often leads to the development of kidney pathologies. How to cure kidney disease and at the same time avoid complications, you can learn from this article.

An excessive amount of urates in the body can lead to the fact that pathological changes begin to occur in the patient's kidneys. The most common kidney diseases with gout include nephritis, kidney failure and the formation of stones inside the organ. According to statistics, half of gout patients sooner or later encounter renal gout.

Kidney diseases in this case develop due to a violation of protein metabolism in the body. With gout, proteins turn into uric acid and from time to time begin to crystallize, accumulate in all tissues of the body. The kidneys are particularly sensitive to uric acid crystals.

Symptoms of kidney damage

Almost always, kidney damage with gout causes a person to have urinary retention of varying severity or even an absolute inability to empty the bladder (indicates kidney stones with gout).

In addition, there may be severe pain in the lumbar region, as well as signs of general intoxication of the body. This is usually indicated by nausea, vomiting, stool disorders, fever (often observed in nephritis caused by gout), a decrease in appetite, and an increase in liver volume. Some patients experience mental retardation, while others experience emotional overexcitation. Swelling of the extremities or face may occur.

Important! Chronic and acute urinary retention can lead to the fact that the patient in a short time will have an overdistension of the bladder and, as a result, urinary incontinence. That is why you need to see a doctor as soon as possible.

Diagnostics

In the course of diagnosing kidney diseases, a specialist interrogates the patient for complaints, collects an anamnesis, conducts a visual examination of the patient, and palpates the abdominal cavity.

After that, a clinical analysis of blood and urine, ultrasound is mandatory. In some cases, you may need excretory urography - a radiographic study, during which a specialist evaluates the rate of excretion of a contrast agent from the kidneys. The Zimnitsky test is also very popular today - a study in which the patient collects his urine during the day, after which doctors evaluate its density.

In severe cases, an MRI may be required.

Treatment of pathology

Important! Before using any medications, you should consult your doctor. Usually the patient is not able to distinguish kidney damage in gout from other diseases similar in symptoms. Often this leads to the uncontrolled use of absolutely inappropriate drugs.

Today, to eliminate kidney pathologies associated with negative changes in the body with gout, doctors use:

  1. Diuretic drugs. These drugs help to remove urine from the kidneys. It is important to say that when taking such drugs, the patient should drink at least 2 liters of water. Otherwise, he may become dehydrated.
  2. Urostatics- means that inhibit the production of uric acid by the body. Without these means, the elimination of pathology is almost impossible. The most commonly used for this purpose is Allopurinol, a drug that was originally created for the treatment of oncology, but over time, scientists have discovered new unique properties in the drug. Today, with the help of this drug, you can completely cleanse the kidneys of stones (under the influence of drugs, they begin to dissolve). Unfortunately, to maintain the effect of Allopurinol, you need to take years.

Treatment of gout in kidney failure is aimed at reducing the concentration of uric acid in the body. In this case, there is a general improvement in the patient's condition in the shortest possible time. The patient's manifestations of both renal failure and gout are reduced.

Prevention

The therapeutic diet includes limiting the use of alcohol, fatty and protein foods. It is better for such patients to choose light chicken meat and limit the consumption of pork and beef. At the same time, you need to consume greens, vegetables and fruits as much as possible, which contain vitamins A, C and E.

Important! Compliance with the diet will help not only cure kidney diseases that accompany gout, but also prevent their development.

To prevent kidney pathologies, you should regularly check the level of uric acid in the body and, if necessary, lower it in time. First of all, this applies to people whose close relatives suffered from gout.
