Burning in the urethra in men

The excretion of urine from the body occurs through the organ of the urinary system - the urethra. It consists of muscular connective tissue on the outside and an internal mucous membrane, outwardly similar to a tube. A burning sensation in the urethra in a man is called urethritis, which has two types of origin: non-infectious and infectious. In girls, this disease occurs no less often than in boys. The main symptoms of urethritis: pain, discharge at the very beginning of urination, pain, burning.

Causes of burning during urination

If it becomes painful for you to go to the toilet in a small way, then this is caused by inflammation of the urethra. The root cause of the disease is: infection, mechanical damage to the urethra or an allergic reaction. The latter, for example, occurs in the presence of specific chemical elements in personal care products. A man can get mechanical damage during catheterization of the bladder, passage of a stone, cystoscopy.

The main cause of infectious urethritis is unprotected intercourse, during which the infection is transmitted from a partner. The disease may proceed without obvious, pronounced symptoms, imperceptibly, and a man may not notice pain during urination at first, but this is not a reason to think that his genitals will also easily endure the disease. The course of the disease, the degree of complications is determined by a number of factors and the state of the body for a given period.

Diseases that cause burning and other discomfort

Here are some diseases that cause unpleasant burning sensations:

  1. Urogenital chlamydia is an infectious sexually transmitted disease that damages the genitals and urinary tract. Lack of treatment can cause infertility - a complication that becomes the reason for going to the doctor. Treatment is mandatory for both sexual partners. After the treatment, the first tests are done, and a month later, one more. If in both cases chlamydia is not detected, the treatment is considered successful.
  2. Gonorrhea is an infectious disease transmitted through sexual intercourse. The disease affects the genitourinary organs lined with transitional and cylindrical epithelium, the rectum (lower third), the urethra, and the conjunctiva. It causes pain and cramps when urinating, cloudy discharge, the upper part of the head becomes inflamed and ulcers may appear. The disease is treated with antibiotics with a bactericidal, bacteriostatic effect on the pathogen (gonococci). Therapy of the disease should take place only under the strict supervision of a physician.
  3. Urolithiasis manifests itself in the formation of stones in the genitourinary system, is diagnosed in people of all ages. If the formations appeared in the bladder, then the pain can spread to the lower abdomen, to the perineum. Another symptom of this disease is the frequent urge to urinate, which can manifest itself sharply while walking, exercising, shaking. During the defecation, the effect of "laying" is possible, the jet is interrupted when the bubble is not yet empty. After passing the stone, there is a strong burning sensation in the urethra after urination.
  4. Urethritis in men is an inflammation of the urethra, which provokes a burning sensation and itching, the appearance of discharge at the beginning of defecation. Pain in such cases can be both chronic and episodic. Constant pain is a symptom of colliculitis, which is one of the variants of urethritis. The chronic form in men does not provoke severe pain (unlike episodic), but only a slight burning sensation during urination, which is still a sufficient reason to go to the clinic to see a doctor for treatment. 5. Trichomoniasis provokes Trichomonas bacteria that penetrate the seminal vesicles, the prostate gland. In the body, the infection at the first hit necessarily causes urethritis and provokes discomfort in the urethra. It is transmitted during unsafe intercourse, which obliges both partners to undergo treatment.
  6. Prostatitis causes inflammation, swelling of the tissues of the prostate gland. It is one of the most common diseases among males aged 20-50 years. More often it develops due to previous diseases of the genitourinary system.
  7. Cystitis is characterized by inflammation of the bladder, is one of the most common diseases of this kind. It is characterized by frequent (often ineffective) urge to urinate, cutting and burning in the urethra, pain in the lower abdomen. When carrying out improper treatment, there is a possibility of aggravation of the disease with the transition to its chronic form, which remains for life. Women get cystitis much more often than men.

Which doctor to contact

If you experience pain when urinating, do not self-medicate, immediately contact the appropriate specialist. A urologist or venereologist deals with diseases of this kind, based on the cause of the disease. Burning occurs in the urethra in men in most cases due to venereal infections, so you should contact the venereology department. In other cases, this is done by a urologist.

How and how to treat a burning sensation in the urethra in men

Below are the main ways to treat the disease:

  • antibacterial drugs (cephalosporins, Norfloxacin) are used to treat inflammatory processes in the urethra, bladder;
  • alkaline drinking (Borjomi) is recommended in the presence of salts in the urine or the development of urolithiasis, sour - in the presence of oxalates;
  • if stones have already formed, it is necessary to crush them with an ultrasonic device or remove them surgically;
  • sedatives ("Fitosed", "Sedavit") are prescribed for a neurological cause of burning in the urethra;
  • phytopreparations (tea from the kidney collection, urolesan) for the urinary system will be useful for any reason for the occurrence of diseases.
