By logging into Recovery you can:

  • Repair device errors;
  • Flash a smartphone or reinstall the OS on a computer;
  • Get superuser rights.

Let's take a closer look at how it works in all popular operating systems for smartphones and computers.

Recovery inAndroid

How to manage menu in android?

After a successful launch of the recovery window, the user must continue working with it, choosing the necessary actions.

Note that there are no shortcut keys in the window, and you won't be able to navigate between its tabs with normal taps.

To control the system menu, use the side buttons of the phone and the Home key. Move up and down or right and left using the volume keys.

Confirmation of the choice is pressing the button "Home".

To exit the recovery, click on "Power". Remember, never disable the system menu until the process has completed.

This can seriously harm your device (cancel firmware update and restore data).

Start the phone after shutdown or use the reboot keys in the system menu itself.

If the volume keys do not work on your gadget, you can connect a regular mouse to the device using a cableOTG and easy to manage system menu.

Explanation of mode names

Depending on the manufacturer of the device, the design and placement of the tabs may differ, but the set of functions and the principle of control remains the same.

In 99% of cases, the recovery menu is displayed in English.

In order not to make a mistake with the choice of the desired item and to correctly configure your phone, read the description of each option first:

    Mounts with Storage is a tab for memory management. With its help, you can format partitions of disk space or view the degree of use of internal and additional memory;

    Reboot system – forced reboot of the device at the moment. In practice, this feature allows you to quickly rid your smartphone of most software problems without having to reset the system settings. After a reboot, all user files and applications are preserved;

    Install from SD - start the installation mode of the archive with the firmware, which is stored on the memory card. If you want to flash your smartphone manually, you should first download the ZIP archive from Android for your device to the card and then start the OS reinstallation process using Recovery;

    Wipe Cache Partition – clearing the cache memory of the device. Note that this function works much more efficiently than any third-party program for clearing the cache and temporary files;

    Factory reset (or wipe Data ) - reset the gadget to factory settings. As a result, you will receive a smartphone with the firmware version that was installed by the manufacturer. All user files and programs will be deleted. The settings are also not saved. Before performing this process, we advise you to create a backup copy of your data and upload it to the cloud;

    Backup or restore – launch the device data backup mode or select a copy to restore user files and settings.

Stock and Custom Recovery. What is the difference?

Wait for your smartphone to be recognized in the installed program and click on the "Other download" tab.

In the "SDK Tool" field, check all the suggested options and save the changes. Wait for all packages to be installed and close the program.

Now you can proceed to install custom Recovery.

To install a third-party TWRP recovery menu, you will need a downloaded archive with a custom version.

Be sure to select your device model and manufacturer.

Save the received archive in the memory of your PC - any directory and system disk. Follow instructions:

1 Make sure your smartphone is enabled and unlocked bootloader BOOTLOADER;

2 Install and Run Android SDK Utility on PC;

3 On your smartphone, turn on the Quick Components Install mode. To do this, press the Volume down and Power keys simultaneously until the icon with the robot appears;

Phone connection field follow these steps:

  • Open the folder with the downloaded custom recovery firmware. It must be in IMG format. Click on an empty space inside the firmware folder while holding down the Shift key. An item will appear in the drop-down list. "Open in command window". Click on it:

  • In the command line window that appears, enter the command "FASTBOOT FLASH RECOVERY FIRMWARE_NAME.IMG" and press Enter . Please note, FIRMWARE_NAME.IMG is the unique name of the file with the custom Recovery image, which is located in an open folder on the computer.

The installation result will be displayed.

After installation, try launching a new Recovery. To do this, use the unique keyboard shortcut for your smartphone or tablet.

Detailed instructions for launching the recovery menu are described at the beginning of the article.

After the first launch, you need to select the interface language and the theme you like. Unlock the screen with a flip to the right to allow changes. Keep using the update with a convenient Russified menu for updating the OS, resetting to factory settings or managing memory.

As long as there are no problems with the Android phone, the list of Recovery menu functions is of no interest to the average user. But some time passes and even the most reliable device starts to slow down. There are problems with scrolling pages, simple applications take a long time to load, etc. Then the Recovery Menu comes to the rescue.

The Recovery menu allows you to work with smartphone or tablet firmware and create backup copies of user data.

Recovery mode is built into all Android devices without exception. With it, you can solve all the accumulated problems in one fell swoop by rolling back the device to the factory settings. In addition, here you can initiate the flashing process by selecting the files to work with yourself.

Another very useful menu feature is backups. There are many applications and programs for a personal computer that perform the same tasks. But why resort to additional options if your phone or tablet already has a very convenient and effective tool? The user is free to choose the data that he wants to save as duplicates. He can create a copy of the entire system, or "rescue" individual sections.

The main advantage of this backup tool is that it does not require the device to be operational in normal mode. The smartphone may not start due to viruses, global errors in the firmware and other problems, but the Recovery mode will boot in any case and offer to protect data.

Entering the Recovery Menu

First of all, you should come to terms with the fact that you won’t be able to enter Recovery mode from normal mode (at least if you don’t use special applications, but more on that later). PC users who use two or more operating systems on the same machine are familiar with this: in order to run an alternative piece of software, the active OS will have to be shut down. Therefore, we turn off the phone or tablet through the power button, in the same way as always.

Then you have to choose a combination to go into recovery mode. Different combinations may be used on different types of devices. Fortunately, there are not so many common options.

Manufacturers see no reason to complicate access to Recovery Mode and use only a few standard combos.

The standard way is to use the device buttons

Try the following combinations one by one, in descending order of popularity:

  1. Press and hold the Power button on the device and the Volume Up button at the same time.
  2. Do the same, only now do not add, but turn down the sound of the switched off gadget.
  3. Try a triple combo. The “Start” button of the device, one of the volume control buttons, the “Home” key (usually it is located in the central part of the space under the screen, but in some models it may be on the side).
  4. Repeat the previous option, only this time hold down both volume keys.

If nothing happens, then you got a device with a unique option to launch the recovery menu. Try to find information on the net if the manufacturer is one of the leading brands. But in most cases, such problems arise with unnamed Chinese devices, for which there are simply no instructions.

Experiment! There are very few mechanical keys on modern gadgets. It's easy to go through all the available combinations. Something will work.

An alternative way is to use special programs

Perhaps you still prefer not to take matters into your own hands and trust automatic decisions.

In this case, use one of the many applications to reboot your phone in alternative modes. They are easy to find by the word Reboot in the title.

After installing one of these applications, choose from the few Reboot Recovery options and wait for the recovery menu to appear on the screen against the background of a broken upside down robot.

It should be noted that such programs will not be able to work without ROOT rights, so you will have to be puzzled by transferring the phone to superuser mode.

Note! Enumeration of key combinations is much faster, more convenient and does not put the device in a vulnerable position.

How to work in recovery mode?

The aforementioned green robot on a black background testifies to the successful launch of the mode. A red warning sign flies out of the core of the robot, as if hinting that the menu should only be used in case of serious problems.

It will be easy even for an inexperienced user to navigate in a meager list of commands. But the control can cause some difficulties, because without a loaded Android system, the touchscreen does not read the signal from the outside, but works like a normal display.

In most cases, you can scroll through the menu items using the volume keys. And the choice in this case is made by the start button of the device.

But there are also models that allow you to scroll through the menu in only one direction, most often down. In this case, to confirm the selection, you need to press the volume increase button.

Exit Recovery Menu

In some versions of the recovery mode (especially in gadgets from unknown Chinese companies), the text of the menu items may have minor differences. Therefore, we are not worried and are looking for an item where a reboot system is offered without verbose additions. In the standard version, this item looks like Reboot System Now.

Sometimes, even after a reboot, the device may start up again in recovery mode. This is an alarming sign that may indicate serious hardware problems. But sometimes the normal mode does not start due to minor problems that are easy to fix.

Try one of the following emergency options:

  1. Hold down the start button of the device and hold it in this position for at least ten seconds. This is similar to pushing the restart button on a frozen computer and solves most problems by resetting the settings, returning to the recovery screen.
  2. Take out the battery, wait a few seconds and put it back in.
  3. Disconnection from the power source is also perceived by the gadget as a large-scale reboot.
  4. Wait until the device is completely discharged and try to turn it on again by recharging the battery a little.
  5. Connect the equipment to the computer and reset via ADB RUN or another similar program.

Remember: by itself, entering the recovery menu does not have any restorative effect on the gadget. To solve problems with the phone, you will have to roll back to the factory settings or install a new firmware.

Let's look at the tablet again. We will need this menu whenever it becomes necessary to reflash the device or upgrade Android, for example, to increase functionality.

What is the Recovery menu of the tablet in general?

Recovery (recovery) is also called a special Recovery Mode, which they get into by loading the gadget in a special way. In this menu, you can restore the system or apply updates and improvements. Often, recovery is necessary when the system crashes or the smoothness of operation is disturbed, etc. Also, Recovery Mode can often be entered even when it fails to boot into a normal state.

The main functionality of the Recovery menu:
- Restoring a previously saved state of the operating system;
- Deletion of personal data stored in the system;
- ;
- ;
- Installation of updates;

It must be borne in mind that incorrect actions in the Engineering menu can lead to disastrous consequences for the system. It is recommended that before any manipulations in Recovery, save the data from the device in a safe place in advance.
The service menu of each tablet is individual, therefore, before changing something in it, we strongly recommend that you carefully read the instructions.

Login to Recovery on an Android tablet

Recovery of Chinese tablets

In a number of Chinese-made devices, there is no pre-installed Recovery. In this case, you will need to first reflash the tablet.

Management in the Recovery menu

Most often, moving through items and selecting them in Recovery are implemented using physical volume buttons and a power button. Other devices may differ in the keys used for navigation and selection.
Some Recovery uses a touch control method. In this case, menu items are selected with a simple tap.

How to get into Recovery on tablets where there are no volume buttons?

To enter the Engineering Menu on devices without volume buttons, you can try the following options:
1. To get into the target mode, you must simultaneously press and hold the power + Home keys. The second way: While holding the "Home" button, you need to hold down the power key, and then release the "Home" button. When the splash screen appears, you must press "Home" again.
2. To switch between menu items, you can use the sensor or a keyboard connected to the USB port via an OTG cable.

More experienced users of Xiaomi devices running Android are already aware of what Recovery and Fastboot modes are and what they are for. Custom Recovery or TWRP

This is Recovey from third party developers. It is installed by you yourself, instead of the stock one (sometimes sellers install non-official firmware, for example from MIUI Pro and therefore, most likely, you already have a custom Recovery).

It looks completely different. Usually, when loading into it, a language selection menu appears first, in which it is present, including English. Actually, you need to choose it, unless, of course, you speak Chinese. The selection might look like this:
