About the prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos “It is worthy to eat”

The prayer to the Most Holy Theotokos “It is worthy to eat” is an integral part of church services. Especially often it is included in the list of prayers for large epidemics. In addition, believers often use such a prayer appeal when they need to be cured of bodily and mental illnesses. Prayer also helps to find happiness in the family.

The History of Prayer

The history of this prayer is very interesting. This prayer appeal is connected with an elder who lived in the tenth century not far from the Athos Kareisky monastery. He lived in the same cell with a novice. Once the novice had to be left alone, as the elder went to the all-night vigil in the temple. During the prayer rule, an unfamiliar monk entered the cell and joined in the prayer chants.

All prayers sounded in harmony until the time came for the appeal to the Most Holy Theotokos. Kneeling before the icon “It is worthy to eat” or “Merciful”, the novice began to sing the traditional prayer text, but the monk interrupted him and said that it was necessary to sing differently.

The beginning of the prayer in his performance sounded like this:

Only then did he continue with the words of the traditional prayer. It is noteworthy that during the prayer chant the face of the Mother of God shone. Having finished praying, the monk ordered the novice to pray only in this way. Not relying on his own memory, the young man decided to ask the monk to write down the words of a new miraculously heard prayer. But, unfortunately, there was no paper and pen in the cell. Then the monk simply wrote with his finger the words of the prayer on the stone, the surface of which suddenly became soft like wax. After that, the mysterious monk disappeared from the cell, as if dissolving into space. The novice only had time to ask the stranger's name, in response to which he heard: "Gabriel."

The elder, who returned from the service, was very surprised by the story of his novice. And, of course, he was very struck by the words of the new prayer. Of course, the elder immediately realized that the monk who appeared in the cell was none other than the Archangel Gabriel.

The news that the Archangel Gabriel descended to earth from heaven quickly spread throughout Athos. Very soon, this news reached Constantinople itself. It was there that a stone slab with a prayer inscribed on it was sent to prove the authenticity of the event.

Holy Mount Athos

Holy Mount Athos is an amazing monastic site located in Greece. By the command of the Mother of God, not a single woman has ever set foot here. The history of the holy Mount Athos is connected with many historical events. The fate of the Christian shrine was determined by the visit of this place in the 1st century by the Most Holy Theotokos. The visit took place a few years after the ascension of Jesus Christ. Since then, this place has been considered the lot of the Mother of God and everything here is subordinated to her memory.

Tradition says that she came to Athos by accident. Her ship, which was going to Cyprus, was carried by a storm to Athos. Local residents recognized in her the Most Holy Theotokos and addressed her with deep respect.

According to the testimony of John the Theologian, who traveled with her, the Mother of God said:

Men who want to visit the Athos Monastery must have special permission from the church authorities to do so. Modest clothing is an important requirement. Arriving men are allowed to spend the night in any monastic community of their choice.

There are 20 monasteries on Mount Athos, and it is forbidden to build new ones. But on the territory of the peninsula there are many monastic settlements. Every year on the second day of Easter on Mount Athos with the miraculous icon of the "Peritiful One" a many-hour religious procession takes place.

Icon of the Mother of God Merciful, forgiving mortal sins

It is believed that the first Icon of the Merciful One, whose significance is enormous for all Orthodox, was painted by St. Luke. It is this image that is still in the Kikk monastery on the island of Cyprus.

Before getting to this place, the miraculous icon wandered for a long time. Initially, she was in Egypt in the temple of one of the Christian communities. In 980, the icon was transferred to Constantinople, where it remained until the beginning of the 11th century, and then was brought to Cyprus, where it is kept to this day.

It happened after a very interesting story. So, once the ruler of Cyprus, Manuel Vutomit, lost his way in the forest, beat the monk Isaiah, who met him there. For such a sin, Manuel was punished in the form of a serious illness. In the meantime, Elder Isaiah had a vision that the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos, painted by St. Luke, would be kept in a church in Cyprus. After that, the elder, who served the cause of God all his life, began to build a temple and ordered the repentant Manuel to go to Constantinople to forgive his sins and bring the miraculous icon from there. When the Cypriot ruler arrived in Constantinople, he learned that the daughter of the emperor was seriously ill. Manuel promised that the weakening of the disease would occur only after the emperor gave him the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos. And this really happened after the icon arrived at the temple, by that time built by Elder Isaiah.

The Prayer of the Most Holy Theotokos, with which the emergence of the prayer “It is worthy to eat” is connected, continues to be on Mount Athos today. The icon depicts the Mother of God and her son, the little Jesus Christ, who cuddles up to her. In the hands of the Son of God is prayer.

It is noteworthy that the Face of the Most Holy Theotokos and the Child are covered with a veil. No one dares to open it. To remind the monks that this action is punishable, an iron brush is attached to the salary of the icon. This is connected with the case when one of the pagans approached the Christian shrine and intended to hit the holy image. But he did not have time to do this, as his hand withered.

The very name of the miraculous icon of the “Merciful” is due to the fact that believers believe that everyone who turns to the Most Holy Theotokos will receive patronage and the necessary help.

Wandering around the world

The icon, which is kept in the temple on Mount Athos, only left this holy place four times. And miracles have always been associated with her, which confirms her great power. Over time, copies of the icon spread to churches around the world. In Rus', lists of miraculous icons began to appear from the 16th century.

So, in the Trinity-Sergius Lavra, in 1999, the icon “The Merciful One” appeared, painted by icon painters from the Holy Mountain. This is a list consecrated on Athos from the original image. Another list can be found in St. Petersburg, in a five-domed church built in honor of the Merciful Mother of God. The masters of the Mount Athos also painted the icon of the Most Holy Theotokos for the Iberian chapel in Moscow.

Chin about panagia

This prayer is an integral element of the panagia rite. The word panagia, which from Greek means - All-holy, Christians in ancient times called the Mother of God. In the performed rite, which can be held in the temple on any day, the words are used in relation to the Mother of God prosphora, because it is she who symbolizes the Queen of Heaven.

This solemn rite consists in the fact that at the monastery meal from the temple in which the liturgy was celebrated, prosphora is brought in honor of the Mother of God in a special vessel called panagiaro. The prosphora is broken up and distributed to the brethren at the end of the meal. The rite of panangia is the glorification of the Most Holy Theotokos as the Intercessor of the human race.

She, the Holy Mother of God, who gave birth to the Son of God - Jesus Christ, always hears us and is ready to pray for us before God. It is believed that the Bread of Life after the Liturgy nourishes our souls. Moreover, in the 16-17 centuries there was a tradition to eat the Bread of the Virgin even on those days when the liturgy was not held. The believers wore particles of the received Mother of God bread on their chests in special folding bags, on which the image of the Mother of God was drawn.

It is worthy to eat as a prayer to bless thee theotokos

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

I believe in one God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only Begotten, who was born of the Father before all ages; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, uncreated, consubstantial with the Father, Whom all was. For us for the sake of man and for our sake of salvation, he descended from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and Mary the Virgin, and became human. Crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried. And resurrected on the third day according to the Scriptures. And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And the packs of the future with glory to judge the living and the dead, His Kingdom will have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Life-Giving One, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke the prophets. Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with you; Blessed are You in women and blessed is the Fruit of Your womb, as if the Savior gave birth to our souls.

Having seen the Resurrection of Christ, let us worship the Holy Lord Jesus, the only sinless one. We worship Thy Cross, O Christ, and we sing and glorify Thy Holy Resurrection: Thou art our God, unless we know Thee otherwise, we call Thy name. Come, all faithful, let us worship the Holy Resurrection of Christ: behold, the joy of the whole world has come through the Cross. Always blessing the Lord, let us sing of His Resurrection: having endured the crucifixion, destroy death by death.

My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior.

Chorus: The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious Seraphim without comparison, who without the corruption of God the Word gave birth to the present Mother of God, We magnify Thee.

As if looking at the humility of His servant, from now on, all will please Me.

Yako do me greatness, O Strong One, and holy is His name, and His mercy from generation to generation to those who fear Him.

Create power with Your arm, squander their hearts with proud thoughts.

Depose the strong from the throne, and exalt the humble; fill the hungry with good things, and let go of the rich.

He will accept His servant Israel, remember mercy, as if speaking to our fathers, Abraham and his seed, even to the age.

Now let your servant go, Master, according to your word in peace; for my eyes have seen your salvation, if you have prepared before the face of all people, a light in the revelation of tongues, and the glory of your people Israel.

Have mercy on me, O God, according to Thy great mercy, and according to the multitude of Thy mercies, cleanse my iniquity. Wash me most of all from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin; for I know my iniquity, and my sin before me is taken out. I have sinned against you alone and done evil before you; as if you were justified in your words, and conquered when you judge Ty. Behold, I was conceived in iniquity, and in sins give birth to me, my mother. Behold, thou hast loved the truth; the unknown and secret wisdom of Thy revealed to me. Sprinkle me with hyssop, and I will be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. Give joy and joy to my hearing; the bones of the humble will rejoice. Turn Your face away from my sins and cleanse all my iniquities. Create a pure heart in me, O God, and renew a right spirit in my womb. Do not cast me away from Your presence, and do not take Your Holy Spirit from me. Give me the joy of Your salvation and confirm me with the Sovereign Spirit. I will teach the wicked in Your way, and the wicked will turn to You. Deliver me from the blood, O God, God of my salvation, my tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness. Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim your praise. As if you would have desired sacrifices, you would have given them: you do not favor burnt offerings. Sacrifice to God the spirit is broken; a contrite and humble heart God will not despise. Please, O Lord, with Thy favor Zion, and let the walls of Jerusalem be built. Then be pleased with the sacrifice of righteousness, an offering and a burnt offering; then they will offer bullocks on your altar.

Prayers to the Most Holy Theotokos

^ Mother of God Virgin, rejoice

Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, gracious Mary, the Lord is with you, blessed are you in women and blessed is the fruit of your womb, as if you gave birth to our souls as the Savior.

Mother of God Virgin Mary, full of the grace of God, rejoice! The Lord is with you; Blessed are You among women, and blessed is the Fruit born of Thee, because You have given birth to the Savior of our souls.

The words rejoice, the Lord is with you, blessed are you among women taken from the greeting of the Archangel Gabriel, when he announced to the Blessed Virgin Mary about the birth of the Son of God from Her according to the flesh (Luke 1:28).

The words Blessed are you in women mean that the Blessed Virgin Mary, as the Mother of God, is glorified more than all other women (Luke 1:42; Ps. 44:18).

Gracious- full of grace, mercy from God.

The words blessed is the fruit of thy womb taken from the greeting of the righteous Elizabeth, when the Holy Virgin Mary, after the Annunciation, wished to visit her (Luke 1:42). The fruit of her womb- Son of God Jesus Christ.

The prayer is based on the greeting of the Archangel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary at the moment of the Annunciation (Luke 1:28-31; Matt. 1:18-25). The famous “Ave, Maria” is the same prayer in Latin.

He deposed rulers from their thrones / and exalted the humble, filled the hungry with blessings / and sent away the rich with nothing. He supported Israel, His servant, / remembering mercy, - / as He said to our fathers, - / to Abraham and his seed forever.

The text of the chant is based on the words spoken by the Blessed Virgin at the meeting with Her relative, Righteous Elizabeth, mother of St. John the Baptist (Luke 1:46-55), with the addition of the refrain “Most honorable cherub…” to each verse, from which it received its second, most common name – “Most Honorable”. Today the prayer has been translated from Greek into all the languages of the world. Every Orthodox believer anywhere in the world can pray in front of the icon of the Mother of God and ask:

  • about success in all endeavors,
  • about marriage
  • about a happy marriage
  • about the birth of a child.

Also, prayer can heal many bodily pains and injuries. Many believers claim that if you sincerely read a prayer, then the Most High and the Mother of God can forgive even mortal sins.

And here are the prayer words:

It is worthy to eat as truly blessed Thee, the Mother of God, the Blessed and Immaculate and Mother of our God. The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee.

Interpretation of morning prayers

Initial Prayer

In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

In the name - in the name, in honor, glory. Amen - true, true, true so. This prayer is called the initial prayer, because we say it before all prayers, at the beginning of prayers. In it, we ask God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, that is, the Most Holy Trinity, to invisibly bless us for the upcoming work in His name.

Translation: In the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Publican's Prayer

God, have mercy on me a sinner.(Bow)

Translation: God, be merciful to me, a sinner.

This is the prayer of the publican (tax collector in ancient times), who repented of his sins and received forgiveness. Here is how it is described in the Gospel:

He also said to some who were sure of themselves that they were righteous, and humiliated others, the following parable: two people entered the temple to pray: one Pharisee, and the other publican. The Pharisee, standing up, prayed in himself like this: God! I thank You that I am not like other people, robbers, offenders, adulterers, or like this publican: I fast twice a week, I give a tenth of everything that I get. The publican, standing afar off, did not even dare to raise his eyes to heaven; but, striking his chest, he said: God! be merciful to me, a sinner! I tell you that this one went to his house justified rather than that one: for everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, but he who humbles himself will be exalted (Luke 18:9-14).

Predestinatory prayer

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen.

Have mercy on us - be merciful to us, forgive us. Jesus is the Savior. Christ is the Anointed One. He is so named because he fully had those gifts of the Holy Spirit, which in the Old Testament, through anointing, were received by kings, prophets and high priests. Prayers for the sake of - for the sake of prayers or by prayers.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God - the second Person of the Holy Trinity. As the Son of God, He is our true God, as are God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. His earthly name is Jesus, that is, the Savior, because He saved us from sins and eternal death. For this, He, being the Son of God, dwelt in the Immaculate Virgin Mary and, with the influx of the Holy Spirit, became incarnate and became human from Her, that is, He took on a human body and soul - was born from the Blessed Virgin Mary, became the same person as we are, but only he was sinless - he became the God-man. And instead of us suffering and tormented for sins, He, out of love for us, His children, suffered for us, died on the cross, and on the third day resurrected, conquering death and sin and giving us eternal life. Realizing our sinfulness and not relying on the power of our prayers, in this prayer we ask you to pray for us, sinners, before our Savior of all saints and the Mother of God, who has a special grace to save us, by His intercession before His Son.

Translation: Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, through the prayers of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us.

Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Glory is praise. In this prayer, we do not ask God for anything, but only praise Him. It can be said in short: Thank God. It is pronounced at the end of the case as a sign of our gratitude to God for His mercy to us.

Translation: Praise to You, our God, praise to You.

Prayer to the Holy Spirit

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

In this prayer we pray to the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Holy Trinity. We call the Holy Spirit in it the King of Heaven, because He, as true God, equal to God the Father and God the Son, invisibly reigns over us, owns us and the whole world. We call him the Comforter, because He comforts us in our sorrows and misfortunes. We call Him the Spirit of Truth (as the Savior Himself called Him), because He, like the Holy Spirit, teaches everyone only one truth, truth, only that which is useful for us and serves for our salvation. He is God, and He is everywhere and fills everything with Himself: He who is everywhere and fills everything. He, as the manager of the whole world, sees everything and, where necessary, gives. He is the treasure of the good, that is, the keeper of all good deeds, the source of all the good that one needs to have. We call the Holy Spirit - the Giver of life, because everything in the world lives and moves by the Holy Spirit, that is, everything receives life from Him, and especially people receive from Him spiritual, holy and eternal life after the grave, being cleansed from their sins through Him. We turn to Him with a request: “Come and dwell in us”, that is, constantly abide in us, as in your temple, cleanse us of all filth, that is, sin, make us saints, worthy of Your presence in us, and Save us, Good Source of the highest good, our souls from sins and those punishments that are for sins, and through this grant us the Kingdom of Heaven.

Translation: King of Heaven, Comforter, Spirit of truth, everywhere present (located) and filling everything (with His presence), Treasury of blessings and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, cleanse us from all sin and save, Pre-good, our souls.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us.

(Read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist.)

Strong - strong; Immortal - undying, eternal. We read this prayer three times in honor of the three Persons of the Holy Trinity. This prayer is called the Trisagion, or the Angelic Song. Christians began to use this prayer after the year 400, when a strong earthquake in Constantinople destroyed houses and villages, and the people, together with Emperor Theodosius II, turned to God with a prayer. During the prayer service, one pious youth, in full view of everyone, was raised by an invisible force to heaven, and then, unharmed, was again lowered to the ground. He said that he heard the singing of Angels in heaven: Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal. The moved people, repeating this prayer, added: have mercy on us, and the earthquake stopped. In this prayer, we call God the first Person of the Holy Trinity - God the Father; Strong - God the Son, because He is as omnipotent as God the Father, although according to humanity He suffered and died; Immortal - the Holy Spirit, because He is not only eternal Himself, like the Father and the Son, but also gives life to all creatures and immortal life to people. Since in this prayer the word holy is repeated three times, it is called the Trisagion.

Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Glory - praise; now - now; ever - always; forever and ever - forever, or forever and ever.

In this prayer, we do not ask God for anything, we only glorify Him, who has appeared to people in three Persons: the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, to whom now and forever belongs the same honor of glorification.

Translation: Praise be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now, always and forever. Amen.

Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

Most Holy - Holy in the highest degree; Trinity - Trinity, three Persons of the Godhead: God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit; sins and iniquities are our deeds, contrary to the will of God; visit - come; heal - heal; infirmities - weaknesses, sins; for Thy name's sake - for the glorification of Thy name.

This prayer is pleading. In it, we first turn to all three Persons together, and then to each Person of the Trinity separately: to God the Father, so that He cleanses our sins; to God the Son, that He may forgive our iniquities; to God the Holy Spirit to visit and heal our infirmities. The words for Your name for the sake of again refer to all three Persons of the Holy Trinity together, and since God is one, then His name is one, and therefore we say “Thy name”, and not “Thy Names”.

Translation: Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord (Father), forgive us our sins; Lord (Son of God), forgive our iniquities; Holy (Spirit), visit us and heal our diseases, for the glorification of Your name.

Have mercy - be merciful, forgive. This is the oldest and common prayer for all Christians. We say it when we remember our sins. To the glory of the Holy Trinity, we say this prayer three times. Twelve times we say this prayer, asking God for a blessing for every hour of the day and night. Forty times - for the consecration of our whole life.

Lord's Prayer

Our Father, Who art in heaven! Hallowed be Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth. Give us our daily bread today; and forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.

Father - Father; Izhe - Which; Who art in heaven - Who is in heaven, or heavenly; yes - let; sanctified - glorified; like - how; in heaven - in heaven; essential - necessary for existence; give - give; today - today, today; leave - forgive; debts are sins; our debtor - to those people who have sinned against us; temptation - temptation, danger of falling into sin; crafty - everything cunning and evil, that is, the devil. The devil is an evil spirit.

This prayer is called the Lord's, because the Lord Jesus Christ Himself gave it to His disciples when they asked Him to teach them how to pray. Therefore, this prayer is the most important prayer for everyone.

Our Father, Who art in heaven! With these words, we turn to God and, calling Him the Heavenly Father, we call to listen to our requests or petitions. When we say that He is in heaven, we must understand the spiritual, invisible sky, and not that visible blue vault that is spread over us and which we call heaven. May Your name be hallowed - that is, help us to live righteously, holyly and glorify Your name with our holy deeds. May Thy Kingdom come - that is, make us worthy here, on earth, of Thy Kingdom of Heaven, which is truth, love and peace; reign in us and rule over us. May Thy will be done, as in heaven and on earth - that is, let everything not be as we want, but as You please, and help us obey this Thy will and fulfill it on earth as unquestioningly and without grumbling, as her fulfill, with love and joy, the holy angels in heaven. Because only You know what is useful and necessary for us, and You wish us well more than we ourselves. Give us our daily bread today - that is, give us this day, for today, our daily bread. Bread here means everything necessary for our life on earth: food, clothing, shelter, but most important of all is the Most Pure Body and Precious Blood in the sacrament of Holy Communion, without which there is no salvation in eternal life. The Lord commanded us to ask ourselves not for wealth, not for luxury, but only for the most necessary things and to rely on God in everything, remembering that He, as a Father, always cares and takes care of us. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors - that is, forgive us our sins just as we ourselves forgive those who offended or offended us. In this petition, our sins are called our debts, because the Lord gave us strength, abilities and everything else in order to do good deeds, and we often turn all this into sin and evil and become debtors to God. And if we ourselves do not sincerely forgive our debtors, that is, people who have sins against us, then God will not forgive us. Our Lord Jesus Christ Himself told us about this. And do not lead us into temptation - temptation is such a state when something or someone draws us to sin, tempts us to do something lawless or bad. We ask - do not allow us to be tempted, which we cannot bear, help us overcome temptations when they occur. But deliver us from the evil one - that is, deliver us from all evil in this world and from the culprit (chief) of evil - from the devil (evil spirit), who is always ready to destroy us. Deliver us from this cunning, crafty power and its deceptions, which is nothing before You.

Translation: Our Heavenly Father! May your name be hallowed; let your kingdom come; May Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us our daily bread for this day; and forgive us our debts (sins), as we also forgive those who have sinned against us; and do not let us fall into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one (the devil).

Symbol of faith

1 I believe in one God the Father, Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible. 2And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only Begotten, who was born of the Father before all ages; Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, uncreated, consubstantial with the Father, Whom all was. 3 For the sake of us, man, and our sake, for the sake of salvation, who descended from heaven and became incarnate from the Holy Spirit and Mary the Virgin, and became human. 4 He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried. 5And he rose again on the third day according to the Scriptures. 6 And ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. 7And the packs of the one to come with glory to be judged by the living and the dead, whose kingdom will have no end. 8And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father, Who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who spoke the prophets. 9Into one Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. 10I confess one baptism for the remission of sins. 11I look forward to the resurrection of the dead, 12and to the life of the age to come. Amen.

To believe in God means to have a living confidence in His being, properties, and actions, and to accept with all our hearts His frank word about the salvation of the human race. God is one in essence, but trinity in Persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit, the Trinity consubstantial and indivisible. In the Creed, God is called the Almighty, because everything that is, He contains in His power and His will. The words of the Creator to heaven and earth, visible to all and invisible, mean that everything was created by God and nothing can be without God. The word invisible indicates that God created the invisible or spiritual world to which the angels belong.

The words under Pontius Pilate indicate the time when He was crucified. Pontius Pilate is the Roman ruler of Judea, which was conquered by the Romans. The word suffering is added to show that His crucifixion was not one kind of suffering and death, as some false teachers said, but genuine suffering and death. He suffered and died not as a Deity, but as a man, and not because he could not avoid suffering, but because he wanted to suffer. The word buried testifies that He really died and rose again, for His enemies even put guards on the tomb and sealed the tomb. And resurrected on the third day according to Scripture - the fifth article of the Creed teaches that our Lord Jesus Christ, by the power of His Godhead, rose from the dead, as it is written about Him in the prophets and in the psalms, and that He rose again in the same body in which He was born and died . The Scriptures mean that Jesus Christ died and resurrected exactly as it was prophetically written in the books of the Old Testament. And ascended into heaven, and sitting at the right hand of the Father - these words are borrowed from Holy Scripture: Descend, He is also ascended above all heaven, in order to fill everything (Eph. 4, 10). We have such a High Priest who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven (Heb. 8:1). The words sitting on the right hand, that is, sitting on the right side, must be understood spiritually. They mean that Jesus Christ has the same power and glory as God the Father. And the packs of the future with glory to judge the living and the dead, His Kingdom will have no end - the Holy Scriptures say this about the future coming of Christ: This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw Him ascending into heaven (Acts 1 , eleven).

The Holy Spirit is called the Lord because he, like the Son of God, is the true God. The Holy Spirit is called the Life-Giving Spirit, because He, together with God the Father and the Son, gives life to creatures, including spiritual life to people: unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the Kingdom of God (John 3:5). The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father, as Jesus Christ Himself says: When the Comforter comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, He will testify about Me (John 15:26). Worship and glorification befits the Holy Spirit, equal with the Father and the Son - Jesus Christ commanded to baptize in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit (Matt. 28, 19). The Creed says that the Holy Spirit spoke through the prophets - this is based on the words of the Apostle Peter: prophecy was never uttered by the will of man, but holy men of God spoke, being moved by the Holy Spirit (2 Pet. 1, 21). You can become a partaker of the Holy Spirit through the sacraments and fervent prayer: if you, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the Heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him (Luke 11:13).

The Church is one, because there is one body and one spirit, just as you were called to one hope of your calling; one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in all of us (Eph. 4:4-6). The Church is Holy, because Christ loved the Church and gave Himself for her in order to sanctify her, having cleansed her with a bath of water through the word; to present her to Himself as a glorious Church, having no spot, or wrinkle, or anything like that, but that she might be holy and blameless (Eph. 5:25-27). The Church is catholic, or, what is the same, catholic or ecumenical, because it is not limited to any place, time, or people, but includes the true believers of all places, times, and peoples. The Church is Apostolic, because it has continuously and invariably preserved both the teaching and the succession of the gifts of the Holy Spirit through consecrated ordination since the time of the apostles. The true Church is also called Orthodox, or Orthodox.

Baptism is a Sacrament in which a believer, when the body is immersed three times in water, with the invocation of God the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit, dies for a carnal, sinful life and is reborn from the Holy Spirit into a spiritual, holy life. Baptism is one, because it is a spiritual birth, and a person is born once, and therefore is baptized once.

The resurrection of the dead is an act of the omnipotence of God, according to which all the bodies of dead people, uniting again with their souls, will come to life and will be spiritual and immortal.

The life of the future age is the life that will be after the Resurrection of the Dead and the Universal Judgment of Christ.

The word Amen at the end of the Creed means "Truly so." The Church has kept the Creed since apostolic times and will keep it forever. No one can ever subtract or add anything to this Symbol.

Prayer 1st, Saint Macarius the Great

God, cleanse me a sinner, for I have done no good before Thee; but deliver me from the evil one, and may Thy will be in me, may I open my unworthy mouth without condemnation and praise Your holy name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and ever and forever and ever. Amen.

Translation: God, cleanse me, a sinner, since I have never done good before You; deliver me from the evil, insidious (the name of the devil in Church Slavonic), and may Thy will be in me; give me, without condemnation (with impunity), to open my unworthy lips and praise Your holy name, the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 2, Saint Macarius the Great

Rising from sleep, I bring the midnight song to Thee, O Savior, and falling down, crying out to Thee: do not let me fall asleep in a sinful death, but have mercy on me, crucified by will, and speeding me up lying in laziness, and save me in standing and prayer, and by in the dream of the night, shine upon me a sinless day, Christ God, and save me.

Translation: Rising after sleep, at midnight I offer You, Savior, a song and, falling down at Your feet, I exclaim to You: do not let me fall asleep in sinful death, but have pity on me, voluntarily Crucified, quickly raise me, carelessly lying, and save me standing before You in prayer. And after a night's sleep send me a clear and sinless day, Christ God, and save me.

Prayer 3, Saint Macarius the Great

To Thee, Lord, Lover of mankind, I have risen from sleep, and I strive for Thy works by Thy mercy, and I pray to Thee: help me at all times, in all things, and deliver me from every evil worldly thing and the devil's haste, and save me, and enter into your eternal kingdom. You are my Creator and all good, the Provider and Giver, all my hope is in You, and I send glory to You, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

In this prayer, we express our readiness and desire before God, upon awakening from sleep, to engage in the deeds assigned to each by God, and we ask Him for help in these deeds; we also ask that He keep us from sins and lead us into the Kingdom of Heaven. Prayer ends with praise to God.

Translation: To Thee, Lord Lover of mankind, having risen after sleep, I hasten and, by Thy mercy, take up the deeds pleasing to Thee. I pray to You: help me always and in everything, and deliver me from all evil in the world and from the devil's action, and save me, and lead me into Your eternal kingdom. For You are my Creator and Source and Giver of all good, all my hope is in You, and I send praise to You now, always and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 4, Saint Macarius the Great

Lord, with Thy many goodness and Thy great bounties Thou hast given me, Thy servant, the past time of this night without adversity to pass from all evil; You Yourself, Master, of all Creators, vouchsafe me with Your true light and an enlightened heart to do Your will, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Translation: Lord, who, by Your abundant goodness and Your great mercy, preserved Your servant in the past time of this night and repelled every attack of the devil, You Yourself, Master, Creator of the whole world, worthy me in the light of Your truth, with an enlightened heart to do Your will, now and always and forever and ever. Amen.

Prayer 5, Saint Basil the Great

Lord Almighty, God of strength and all flesh, living in the highest and looking down on the humble, test the hearts and wombs and the secrets of people in the foreknowledge, Beginningless and Eternal Light, with Him there is no change, or change overshadowing; Himself, the Immortal King, accept our prayers, even at the present time, boldly on the multitude of Your bounties, from bad mouths to You, and leave us our sins, even in deed, and in word, and in thought, knowledge or ignorance, sinned by us; and cleanse us from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit. And grant us with an invigorating heart and a sober thought the whole night of our present life, awaiting the coming of the bright and revealed day of Your Only Begotten Son, the Lord and God and Savior of our Jesus Christ, the Judge of all will come with glory, give to anyone according to his deeds; yes, not fallen and lazy, but awake and exalted in the work of the future, prepare, in joy and the Divine chamber of His glory, we will live, where the unceasing voice is celebrating, and the indescribable sweetness of those who see Your face is inexpressible kindness. Thou art the true Light, enlightening and sanctifying everything, and all creation sings to You forever and ever. Amen.

Translation: Lord Almighty, God of the incorporeal powers and of all flesh, living on the heights of heaven and looking over the valleys of the earth, observing the hearts and thoughts and clearly knowing the secrets of men, the Beginningless and Eternal Light, which has no change in strength and leaves no shaded place on its way . You Yourself, Immortal King, accept our prayers, which we at present, hoping for the abundance of Your compassion, bring to You from unclean lips; and forgive us our sins committed by us in deed, word and thought, consciously or unconsciously, and cleanse us from all impurity of the flesh and spirit. And let us, with a wakeful heart and a sober thought, live the whole night of this earthly life, in anticipation of the bright and glorious day of the second coming of Your Only Begotten Son, the Lord God and Savior Jesus Christ, when the common Judge will come with glory to reward everyone according to his deeds. May He find us not lying and sleeping, but awake and rising in the midst of the fulfillment of His commandments, and ready to enter with Him into joy and the Divine chamber of His glory, where the unceasing voices of those who triumph and the inexpressible joy of those who see the inexpressible beauty of Your face. For You are the true Light that enlightens and sanctifies the whole world, and all creation sings of You forever and ever. Amen.

Sins by deed - when this deed is contrary to the commandment of God. For example, if a person indulges in overeating, drunkenness, dainties, then he sins against the commandment of God "Do not make for yourself an idol and any likeness." Sins in a word - when this word is contrary to the will of God. For example, idle talk, indecent words and songs are sins in a word. Sins in a word - slander of one's neighbor, slander, condemnation. Sins of thought are desires, thoughts that are contrary to love for our neighbor, when we act against the commandment of God "Do not covet anything that belongs to your neighbor." These sins are just as grievous as sins in deed and word. Sins of knowledge are those that we do, knowing that they are forbidden by the law of God, we do them according to our passions, out of pride, malice, laziness, etc., and justify ourselves with false arguments. Sins of ignorance come from the weakness of human nature. Who will see their faults? - says the prophet David (Ps. 18, 13) and adds a prayer: Cleanse me from my secrets, that is, from sins made by me through weakness and ignorance, which I either do not know, or which I do not remember, or which I do not even consider as sins .

Prayer 9, to the Guardian Angel

Holy Angel, stand before my accursed soul and my passionate life, do not leave me a sinner, depart from me below for my intemperance. Give no place to the crafty demon to possess me with the violence of this mortal body; strengthen my poor and thin hand and guide me on the path of salvation. To her, the holy Angel of God, the guardian and patron of my accursed soul and body, forgive me all, insult you with great insults all the days of my stomach, and if I have sinned this past night, cover me this present day, and save me from every temptation of the opposite Yes, in no sin will I anger God, and pray for me to the Lord, may he confirm me in His fear, and show me worthy of His servant of goodness. Amen.

At baptism, God gives every Christian a guardian angel who invisibly protects a person from all evil. Therefore, we must ask the Angel every day to keep and have mercy on us.

Translation: Holy Angel, appointed to guard my poor soul and unhappy life, do not leave me, a sinner, and do not depart from me for my intemperance; do not allow the evil demon to subjugate me by the predominance of this mortal body; take firmly my unfortunate and drooping hand and lead me to the path of salvation. Oh, holy Angel of God, guardian and patron of my poor soul and body, forgive me everything that I have offended you in all the days of my life, and if I have sinned in the past night, protect me this day; and save me from every temptation of the enemy, so that I do not anger God with any sin, and pray for me to the Lord that He would establish me in His fear and make me a slave worthy of His mercy. Amen.

Prayer 10, to the Most Holy Theotokos

My Most Holy Lady, the Theotokos, with Thy holy and all-powerful supplications, expel from me, Thy humble and accursed servant, despondency, oblivion, foolishness, negligence, and all filthy, crafty and blasphemous thoughts from my wretched heart and from my darkened mind. And extinguish the flame of my passions, for I am poor and cursed. And deliver me from many and fierce memories and enterprises, and from all the actions of evil free me. As if you are blessed from all generations, and Your honorable name is glorified forever and ever. Amen.

Translation: My Most Holy Lady Theotokos, with Your holy and all-powerful prayers, drive away from me, Your humble and unfortunate servant, despondency, oblivion, foolishness, negligence, remove all bad, crafty and blasphemous thoughts from my wretched heart and my darkened mind and extinguish my flame passions, for I am miserable and unhappy; deliver me from many pernicious memories and thoughts and free me from all evil deeds, for all generations bless you and your most pure name is glorified forever and ever. Amen.

End of morning prayers

It is worthy to eat as truly blessed Thee, the Mother of God, the Blessed and Immaculate and Mother of our God. The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee.

Translation: It is truly worthy to glorify You, Mother of God, always blessed and blameless and Mother of our God. You are worthy of veneration more than the Cherubim and by Your glory incomparably higher than the Seraphim, You gave birth to God the Word (Son of God) without illness, and as the true Mother of God we glorify You.

In this prayer, we praise the Mother of God as the Mother of our God, always blessed and immaculate, and magnify Her, saying that She, with Her honor (most honest) and glory (most glorious), surpasses the highest Angels: Seraphim and Cherubim, that is, the Mother of God in her perfection stands above all - not only people, but also holy angels. Without illness, she miraculously gave birth to Jesus Christ from the Holy Spirit, Who, having become a man from Her, is at the same time the Son of God, descended from heaven, and therefore She is the true Mother of God.

Among the many hundreds of images of the Mother of God, those that originated from Mount Athos deserve a very special veneration. An incredible story is connected with the “It is worthy to eat” icon, which is carefully preserved by church tradition. The inseparable connection with the well-known prayer gives deep meaning to both the image and the very words of the song of praise.

The history of the holy image

The story has come down to us from time immemorial: a monk lived in an Athos cave, one day he left for service, and left a young novice in a cell. It was late afternoon when there was a knock at the door. The young man was not surprised - Mount Athos is inhabited by monks, there are also pilgrims here, sometimes they ask to spend the night with each other. The guests began to pray together. When the monks began to magnify the Mother of God, the guest suggested adding the words to the traditional verses:

  • “Worthy to eat…”

All this happened in front of the icon of the Mother of God, which began to radiate a wonderful light. The young monk asked me to write down the beautiful words. When there was no paper, the guest drew them right on the stone. He asked to teach this prayer to all Christians. Having performed this miracle, the guest disappeared. All Orthodox today know by heart the prayer of praise, which then became part of the divine service.

The perspicacious old man later said that the Archangel Gabriel himself visited him in his cell. Since then, the icon has been called the first words of the angelic song. The image was transferred to the monastery Assumption Church (Kareya), where it remains to this day. By faith, many receive healing from spiritual and bodily illnesses before him.

Temple of the icon "It is worthy to eat"

Almost a millennium has passed since that miraculous visit, and the icon “It is worthy to eat” (“Merciful”) is still on Mount Athos. Only a few times the monks took her to Greece to give believers the opportunity to bow to the shrine - the Queen of Heaven visited Athens, Thessaloniki, Cyprus. Usually she stands in the altar of the cathedral church. Twice a year, the monks arrange a religious procession around the island, and those monks who do not come to it are punished from above (either a fire happened, or a robbery).

Lists of icons were also sent to Russia. One was in St. Petersburg, where the Church of the Merciful Icon operated, which is currently under restoration. Another list was donated to the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. It was made by the monks of the Nikolsky Skete. The copy, which was in the Vyatka province, became famous for its miracles. There is an image in the Jerusalem Spiritual Mission. Muscovites can bow to the icon in the Danilov Monastery (it is located in the cathedral), in the Ilyinsky Church (Obydensky Lane).

What helps the icon "It is worthy to eat"

A person during the life path is not alone - at least a believer. Next to him is always the Guardian Angel, the Mother of God and the Lord Himself. It is necessary to seek help with the help of prayer, traditionally Orthodox do this near the holy icons. What helps the icon "It is worthy to eat":

  • successfully complete the started enterprise (you can order a prayer service);
  • gain health;
  • improve family relationships;
  • receive forgiveness of sins - even very grave ones, called mortal ones.

You can resort to the Mother of God even in the most hopeless situations, because she is known for her patience, diligence in prayer, and an all-forgiving attitude towards sinners.

The meaning and meaning of the icon

Reflecting on the meaning of the icon “It is worthy to eat,” one must first carefully think about the words of praise. Only two short verses, but they contain a whole theological program.

  • It is worthy to praise You, immaculate and blessed Mother of God.
  • Your glory is greater than the Seraphim, you are worthy of higher veneration than the Cherubim.
  • You gave birth to God the Word without violating purity.
  • We magnify You as the Mother of God.

This is the meaning of the verses that believers are accustomed to hearing in Church Slavonic (although the original was in Greek).

According to art historians, the original icon, in front of which the new prayer was first said, was the usual half-length image of the Virgin. The Child sat on the right arm, clinging to the Mother. After the events that occurred, appropriate adjustments were made to the image. Figures of angels appeared on the canvas - at the level of the heads on the left and right. They stretch out their hands to Christ and St. Mary.

Angels indicate that the prayer was sent directly from heaven to the sinful earth, as a mercy. Indeed, by repeating such a short and pleasant to the ear prayer, you can save your soul, and many around. As one old man said, if you save yourself, thousands around you will be saved. No wonder the second name of the icon “It is worthy to eat” is “Merciful”.

The heads of the Virgin and Child are decorated with crowns. The views of both are directed to the scroll - it is held by Christ in his right hand. On it are written the words of a biblical prophecy about the Savior - the King of the world.

Other icon painting options

The icon of the Mother of God “It is worthy to eat” also became a subject for temple paintings in the 17th century. There, the plot unfolded, as a rule, more extensively, since the authors were not strictly limited by the size of the board. The Mother of God is depicted here already in full growth, holding the Divine Infant in her arms. Around there is an angelic world, saints. God the Father appears above the Mother of God in the clouds (later, by the decision of one of the cathedrals, it was forbidden to depict the First Person of the Holy Trinity in the form of an old man).

The text of the prayer “It is worthy to eat” was also written around St. Mary. Such a plot was also depicted on vessels called panagiars. They were intended for bread consecrated in honor of the Virgin. After a meal in the monasteries, it was distributed to each monk.

How and what to ask the icon

What to pray for the icon “It is worthy to eat”? The thoughts of any believer should be directed, first of all, to the salvation of his soul. To have mercy, to save from eternal fire - that's what you need to beg the Queen of Heaven and the Lord Christ. Only then can you ask for some household needs. You should never complain about others, demand to punish them, try to force loved ones to do their own thing with the help of prayer. This is more like witchcraft, and not like a prayer pleasing to the Lord.

You should pray, first of all, for the correction of your own shortcomings.

  • Pride. The beginning of many other negative qualities, "the mother of all sins," as the holy fathers say. An arrogant attitude towards others makes it difficult to see dignity, sincerely love, respect loved ones.
  • Laziness. Modern people are so pampered that often the slightest obstacles seem insurmountable to them. The Queen of Heaven worked a lot during her lifetime (ordinary water in ancient Israel had to be carried from afar), so she will teach diligence, patience, and send strength.
  • Anger. A sign that a person has not reconciled himself with himself, and therefore with the Lord. It can develop into envy, impatience, anger towards others. It is necessary to pray especially fervently, the Lord will subdue future passions in the soul.

First you need to read prayers specially written for the veneration of the most holy icon "It is worthy to eat." Do not forget about the chant that gave the icon its name. If there is no hearing, it is not necessary to sing. A simple reading will suffice.

The prayer “It is worthy to eat” can also be used completely independently, you can read it on the road, at the moments when you have a free minute. It is necessary to take a blessing to read the rosary. Usually priests only encourage the desire for prayer deeds, if it arises. You just need to prepare for the fact that the demons will in every possible way prevent the strengthening of this new habit. You can't give up, you have to pray daily. Then the Lord will bless all earthly life with abundant gifts.

Prayer before the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary "It is worthy to eat"

Prayer

Oh, Most Holy and Merciful Lady Mother of God! Falling down to Your holy icon, we humbly pray to You, listen to the voice of our prayer, see our sorrows, see our troubles, and like a loving Mother, rushing to help us helpless, implore Your Son and our God: may He not destroy us for our iniquity, but reveal us philanthropicly His mercy. Ask us, Mistress, from His goodness bodily health and spiritual salvation and peaceful life, fruitfulness of the earth, good air, and blessing from above on all our good deeds and undertakings. And as of old, thou hast graciously looked at the humble doxology of the novice of Athos, who hymned Thee before Thy most pure icon, and sent an angel to him to teach him to sing a heavenly song, with which the angels glorify Thee, so now accept our fervent prayer, brought to Thee. O Queen of All-Places, stretch out your God-bearing hand to the Lord, you carried the image of the God-child Jesus Christ, and beg Him to deliver us from all evil. Show, Mistress, Your mercy to us: heal the sick, comfort the grieving, help the needy, and make us piously complete this earthly life, receive a Christian shameless death, and inherit the Kingdom of Heaven, by Your motherly intercession to Christ our God who was born from You, Him with By His Father without beginning and the Most Holy Spirit, all glory, honor and worship is due, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

It is truly fair to please You, Mother of God, eternally blessed and immaculate, and the Mother of our God. You are superior in honor to the cherubim and in your glory incomparably higher than the seraphim. You gave birth to God the Word as a virgin, and as the true Mother of God we magnify You.

In the 10th century, a mysterious guest came to an Athos novice in the absence of an elder, a monk who called himself Gabriel. When during the service it was time to praise the Mother of God, and the novice began to sing “The Most Honorable Cherub. ”, then the guest said: “But we don’t call the Mother of God like that,” and uttered the words of the prayer “It is worthy to eat. ", And then already" The most honest Cherub. ". The novice asked the guest to write down the prayer, but there was no paper or ink in the cell, and then Gabriel inscribed the prayer with his finger on the stone, which became soft like wax for a while. Then the guest suddenly disappeared.

When the elder returned, the novice told him about the night visit and showed him a prayer written on a stone. The elder realized that the guest who had appeared was the Archangel Gabriel. Prayers for every day

Every Orthodox Christian is obliged to pray daily, morning and evening, before and after eating food, before and after any work (for example, before teaching and after teaching, etc.).

In the morning we pray to thank God for keeping us last night, to ask for His Fatherly blessing and help for the day that has begun.

In the evening, before going to bed, we also thank the Lord for a well-spent day and ask us to keep us during the night.

In order for the work to be done successfully and safely, we must also, first of all, ask God for blessings and help for the upcoming work, and at the end, thank God.

To express our feelings for God and for His saints, the Church has given us various prayers. Here are the most common ones:

In the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen.

This prayer is called the initial prayer, because we say it before all prayers, at the beginning of prayers.

In it, we ask God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit, that is, the Most Holy Trinity, to invisibly bless us for the upcoming work in His name.

We say this prayer at the beginning of each business.

This prayer is the most ancient and common among all Christians. Even a small child can easily remember it; we say it when we remember our sins. To the glory of the Holy Trinity, we Christians say this prayer three times. We also pronounce it 12 times, asking God for a blessing for every hour of the day and night; we pronounce it 40 times, for the consecration of our whole life.

Praise to the Lord God

Glory to you, our God, glory to you.

In this prayer, we do not ask God for anything, but only praise Him. It can be said in short: Thank God, Pronounced at the end of the case as a token of our gratitude to God for His mercy to us.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me a sinner.

Many saints and righteous people advise to say the Jesus Prayer as often as possible.

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, prayers for the sake of Your Most Pure Mother and all the saints, have mercy on us. Amen. Glory to Thee, our God, glory to Thee.

Heavenly King, Comforter, Soul of Truth, Who is everywhere and fills everything, Treasury of good things and Giver of life, come and dwell in us, and cleanse us from all filth, and save, O Blessed, our souls.

Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (It is read three times, with the sign of the cross and a bow from the waist). Glory to the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Holy Angel, stand before my accursed soul and my passionate life, do not leave me a sinner, retreat from me below for my intemperance, Do not give place to the evil demon to possess me, the violence of this mortal body; strengthen my poor and thin hand and guide me on the path of salvation. Hey, Holy Angel of God, guardian and patron of my damned soul and body, forgive me all, insult you with great insults all the days of my stomach, and if I have sinned this past night, cover me on this present day and save me from every temptation of the opposite, let me anger God in no sin, and pray for me to the Lord, let him confirm me in His fear, and show me worthy of a servant of His goodness. Amen.

Holy Trinity, have mercy on us; Lord, cleanse our sins; Lord, forgive our iniquities; Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities, for Your name's sake.

Virgin Mother of God, rejoice, Blessed Mary, the Lord is with you; Blessed are You in women and blessed is the Fruit of Your womb, as if the Savior gave birth to our souls.

Save, Lord, and have mercy on my spiritual father (name), my parents (names), relatives (names), bosses (their names) and all Orthodox Christians.

Give rest, Lord, to the souls of the departed Thy servants: my parents, relatives, benefactors (their names), and all Orthodox Christians, and forgive them all sins, voluntary and involuntary, and grant them the Kingdom of Heaven.

It is worthy to eat as if truly bless Thee, the Mother of God, the Blessed and Immaculate and Mother of our God. The most honest Cherubim and the most glorious without comparison Seraphim, without the corruption of God the Word, who gave birth to the real Mother of God, we magnify Thee.

Prayer of the last Optina Elders

Lord, give me peace of mind to meet everything that the coming day brings me.

Let me completely surrender to the will of Your Holy One. In every hour of this day, instruct and support me in everything. Whatever news I receive during the day, teach me to accept it with a calm soul and firm conviction that everything is Your Holy Will. In all my words and deeds guide my thoughts and feelings. In all unforeseen cases, do not let me forget that everything is sent down by You. Teach me to act directly and reasonably with each member of my family, without embarrassing or upsetting anyone. Lord, give me the strength to endure the fatigue of the coming day and all the events during the day. Guide my will and teach me to pray, believe, hope, endure, forgive and love. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ our God! Receive this fervent prayer from us, your unworthy servants, and, having forgiven us all our sins, remember all our enemies who hate and offend us, and do not reward them according to their deeds, but by Your great mercy turn them: unbelievers to orthodoxy and piety, faithful but in a hedgehog evade evil and do good. Mercifully deliver us all and Thy holy church by Thy almighty strength from every evil situation. Free the suffering Russian land from the fierce atheists and their power, and resurrect holy Orthodox Rus', and your faithful servants, crying out to You in sorrow and sorrow day and night, hear a painful cry, our many-merciful God, and bring them out of incorruption. Grant peace and silence, love and affirmation, and speedy reconciliation to Your people, who have redeemed them with Your honest blood. But to those who have departed from You and not seeking You, be revealed, in a hedgehog not perish from them alone, but be saved by everyone and come into the mind of the truth, so that all in unanimous unanimity and in unceasing love will glorify Your honorable name, patiently soul, gentle Lord, forever centuries. Amen.

Deliver me from the blood, O God, God of my salvation, my tongue will rejoice in Your righteousness, O Lord, open my mouth, and my mouth will proclaim Your praise.

Alive in the help of the Most High, in the blood of the God of Heaven will settle. The Lord says: Thou art my intercessor and my refuge, my God, and I trust in Him. As if He will deliver thee from the net of the hunter, and from the rebellious word, His splash will overshadow thee, and under His wings you hope: His truth will be your weapon. Do not be afraid of the fear of the night, from the arrow flying in the days, from the thing in the darkness of the transient, from the scum (from the attack), and the demon of the afternoon. A thousand will fall from your country, and darkness at your right hand, but it will not come close to you, both look at your eyes, and see the reward of sinners. As you, O Lord, are my hope, the Most High have laid down your refuge. Evil will not come to you, and the wound will not approach your body, as if by His Angel a commandment about you, save you in all your ways. They will take you in their hands, but not when you stumble your foot on a stone, step on the asp and the basilisk, and cross the lion and the serpent. As a catch on Me, and deliver, and: I will cover and, as if I knew My name. He will call to Me, and I will hear him: I am with him in sorrow, I will crush him, and I will glorify him, I will fulfill him with long life, and I will show him My salvation.

Prayer to St. Sergius, Wonderworker of Radonezh

O sacred head, Reverend and God-bearing Father Sergius, with your prayer, and faith, and love, even to God, and with purity of heart, still on earth in the monastery of the Most Holy Trinity, arranging your soul, and angelic communion and the Most Holy Theotokos visit, and the gift miraculous grace received, after your departure from earthly things, especially to God, drawing near, and joining the Heavenly Forces, but also from us with the spirit of your love did not depart and your honest power, like a vessel of grace full and overflowing, leaving us! Great, having boldness to the All-Merciful Master, pray to save His Servant, the grace of His believers that is in you and flows to you with love. Ask us from our great-gifted God every gift, to everyone and to whom it is beneficial, the faith is impeccable, the affirmation of our cities, the peace of the world, deliverance from gladness and destruction, preservation from the invasion of foreigners, consolation for those who are grieving, healing for those who are ill, the fallen resurrection, those who err on the path of truth and return of salvation, striving fortification, prosperity and blessing in good deeds, upbringing for infants, young instruction, ignorant admonition, orphans and widows intercession, departing from this temporal life to eternal good preparation and parting words, departed blessed repose, and all of us helping your prayers On the day of the Last Judgment, vouchsafe a part of the shui to be delivered, and the right of the country to be partakers of life and hear the blessed voice of the Lord Christ: come, bless my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. Amen.

Save, O Lord, and have mercy on Thy servants (name) with the words of Thy Divine Gospel, read about the salvation of Thy servants (name). The thorns of all their sins, voluntary and involuntary, have fallen, Lord, and may Thy grace dwell in them, enlightening, scorching, purifying the whole person. In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Oh, all-holy Boniface, merciful servant of the Merciful Lord! Hear those who come running to you, obsessed with a pernicious addiction to drinking wine, and, as in your earthly life you never refused to help those who ask you, so now deliver these unfortunate ones (names). Once, God-wise father, the hail broke your vineyard, but you, giving thanks to God, ordered the few remaining clusters to be put in the winepress and call the poor. Then, taking new wine, you poured it drop by drop into all the vessels that were in the bishopric, and God, fulfilling the prayer of the merciful, performed a glorious miracle: the wine in the winepress multiplied, and the poor filled their vessels. Oh saint of God! As wine multiplied by your prayer for the needs of the church and for the benefit of the poor, so you, blessed, reduce it now where it causes harm, deliver from addiction to it those who indulge in the shameful passion of drinking wine (names), heal them from a serious illness, free them from demonic temptation, affirm them, the weak, give them, the weak, strength and strength to successfully endure this temptation, return them to a healthy and sober life, direct them to the path of labor, put in them the desire for sobriety and spiritual vigor. Help them, God's saint Boniface, when the thirst for wine begins to burn their larynx, destroy their pernicious desire, refresh their lips with heavenly coolness, enlighten their eyes, put their feet on the rock of faith and hope, so that, leaving their soul-damaging addiction, entailing excommunication from the Kingdom of Heaven, having established themselves in piety, they were worthy of a shameless peaceful death and in the eternal light of the infinite Kingdom of Glory worthily glorified our Lord Jesus Christ with His Beginningless Father and with His Most Holy and Life-Giving Spirit forever and ever. Amen.

“Merciful Lord, Jesus Christ, I entrust to you our children, whom you have given us by fulfilling our prayers. I ask You, Lord, save them in ways that You Yourself know. Save them from vices, evil, pride, and let nothing that is contrary to You touch their souls. But grant them faith, love and hope for salvation, and may they be Your chosen vessels of the Holy Spirit, and may their life path be holy and blameless before God. Bless them, Lord, that they strive every minute of their lives to fulfill Your holy will, so that You, Lord, can always abide with them by Your Holy Spirit.

Lord, teach them to pray to You, so that prayer will be their support and joy in the sorrows and consolation of their lives, and that we, their parents, may be saved by their prayer. May your angels always protect them. May our children be sensitive to the grief of their neighbors, and may they fulfill Your commandment of love. And if they sin, then vouchsafe them, Lord, to bring repentance to You, and You, in Your inexpressible mercy, forgive them. When their earthly life ends, then take them to Your Heavenly Abode, where let them lead with them other servants of Your chosen ones. Through the prayer of Your Most Pure Mother of the Theotokos and Ever-Virgin Mary and Your Saints (all the holy families are listed), Lord, have mercy and save us, as you are glorified with Your Beginningless Father and Your Most Holy Good Life-Creating Spirit now and ever and forever and ever. Amen".

Oh, Vladyka, Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God! Many of Your goodness, for the sake of us man and for our salvation in the flesh, and crucified and buried, and with Your Blood renewing our corrupt nature, accept my repentance for sins and hear my words: I have sinned, Lord, against him and before You, in word, deed , soul and body, and the thought of my mind, transgressed Thy commandments, did not obey Thy command, angered Thy Goodness, my God, but as Thy creation is, I do not despair of salvation, but boldly come to Thy immeasurable Goodness and pray to Thee: Lord! in repentance, give me a contrite heart and accept me praying and give me a good thought, give me the thought of confessing my sins, give me tears of tenderness, Lord, give me, by Your grace, lay a good beginning. Have mercy on me, O God, have mercy on me who has fallen, and remember me, Thy sinful servant in Thy Kingdom, now and forever and forever and ever. Amen.

Omnipotent and All-Merciful God, protect everything with Your mercy and humanity, I humbly pray to Thee: by the intercession of the Mother of God and all the saints, save me, a sinner, and the people entrusted to me from sudden death and all misfortunes, and help deliver unharmed, each according to his need.

Good God! Deliver me from the evil spirit of recklessness, the unclean power of alcoholism, causing misfortunes and sudden death without repentance. Save and help me, Lord, with a clear conscience to live to a ripe old age without the burden of people killed and maimed by my negligence, and may Your holy name be glorified, now and forever, and forever and ever. Amen

Preblagaya my queen, my hope to the Mother of God, friend of orphans and strange representatives, grieving joy, offended patroness! See my misfortune, see my sorrow, help me like a weak one, feed me like a strange one. I’ll offend my weight, resolve it, as if you will: as if I don’t have another help for You, or another intercessor, or a good comforter, only You, O Bogomati, as if you save me and cover me forever and ever. Amen.
