How to treat lymphostasis of the lower extremities at home. Treatment of lymphostasis of the lower extremities

Lymphostasis, or lymphedema, is a common and serious pathological process. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 10% of people in the world suffer from lymphedema of the lower extremities.

Patients with lymphedema are classified as "difficult patients" whose treatment is lengthy and demanding. Is it possible to effectively treat lymphostasis of the lower extremities at home?

Lymphostasis is a pathological process that is characterized by a violation of the outflow of lymphatic fluid from the affected areas of the body with the development of edematous syndrome. Regardless of the reasons, the development of the disease is based on a violation of microcirculation.. Due to the defeat of small-caliber vessels, tissue edema and impaired lymph flow occur. Violation of lymphatic drainage accompanies a violation of the function of detoxification of the involved area.

The course of the disease is divided into four stages:

  • orthostatic, or functional;
  • stable;
  • deforming;
  • fibrous, or "elephantiasis".

Besides, the problem may be congenital or acquired. The first option occurs against the background of underdevelopment or complete absence of lymphatic vessels.

Secondary lymphostasis is a complication of a wide range of other pathologies: kidney failure, heart disease, oncological processes, infectious diseases, injuries and fractures.

A common cause of lymphostasis among women is the constant wearing of high-heeled shoes, which makes it difficult for the normal outflow of lymph.

The main symptoms of lymphostasis are swelling of the limb at various levels (foot, lower leg or thigh), discoloration, coldness, a feeling of tension and bursting of the skin, pain, thickening of the subcutaneous fat, impaired joint mobility. The increase in these symptoms progressively occurs from stage to stage..

At stages 3-4, due to, significantly increased risk of bacterial complications: sepsis and erysipelas.

Therapy of lymphostasis

How to cure lymphostasis of the lower extremities at home? An integrated approach is needed to effectively solve the problem. It provides for the use of preventive measures, drug and local treatment, the use of traditional medicine methods. Prevention of lymphedema includes:

  • proper nutrition: avoiding salt, unhealthy fats, simple carbohydrates. Sausages, sweets, smoked foods should be completely excluded from the diet. Add fresh vegetables and fruits, which are natural sources of antioxidants;
  • drinking regimen. The norm of liquid per day is 1.5-2 liters. Water cannot be limited! The more you reduce its consumption, the more swelling will increase due to the retention of tissue fluid. Sweet drinks, juices are not a substitute for pure water;
  • quitting nicotine and alcohol;
  • active lifestyle: walks in the fresh air, regular physical education.

Attention! With the development of the first manifestations of the disease, or even more so its progression, you need to contact a specialist. A phlebologist or vascular surgeon deals with the treatment of lymphostasis.

Medicines

Medicines can be used topically or by mouth. Apply:

A set of drugs for lymphostasis is selected individually, taking into account the severity of clinical manifestations, the stage of the disease. More often, combinations of drugs from different groups are used. To achieve the best effect, course therapy is needed, usually carried out 2-3 times a year.

Compression and kinesitherapy

For the purpose of compression, or squeezing the lower limb, special compression underwear is used at home. It can be stockings or tights. It is selected individually depending on the size and the required compression. There are three levels of compression: strong, moderate and weak.

Or tights are pulled on immediately after waking up in the morning, while the swelling of the limb is minimal, and removed just before bedtime. They produce underwear in Russia, Europe and America. Its cost is different, ranging from 1 thousand to 10 thousand rubles. It is better to entrust the primary selection of underwear to the doctor.

Kinesitherapy, or as it is called "movement therapy", includes the use of special exercises of physiotherapy exercises, self-massage techniques and swimming. At home, you can do:

  • "bike";
  • exercise "eight" - circular movements with straightened legs;
  • circular rotations of the feet;
  • flexion of the legs at the knee joints.

Self-massage should be performed after a shower, on clean, moisturized skin. All movements should be smooth, not traumatic. It is necessary to take into account the direction of movement of the lymph, that is, everything should be carried out from the periphery to the center: from the feet to the knees, from the knees to the thighs, from the hips to the groin. So lymph from the periphery enters the centers of its outflow.

Folk recipes

It is based on the use of natural herbs, honey, apple cider vinegar. Inside use decoctions and infusions. For local therapy, compresses, applications and baths are used. Here are some examples of products that have worked well:

The use of folk remedies can have a positive impact if you start using them in the early stages of the process and for prevention. It is important to ensure that there are no contraindications for other diseases. It is impossible to cure stages 3 and 4 of lymphostasis only with herbs.

Lymphostasis of the lower extremities is a serious disease that develops against the background of a violation of the outflow of lymph. Dysfunction of the lymphatic system leads to the fact that the components of the human internal environment begin to accumulate in the tissues, and this causes swelling, thickening of the skin and pain. Patients who do not know how to treat lymphedema of the lower extremities face serious complications. They lead to a strong compaction of the legs, due to which a person completely loses the ability to move independently. Timely therapy will help to avoid such troubles, which consists not only in taking medications, but also in home treatments that are effective for this disease.

With the diagnosis of lymphostasis of the lower extremities, which is also called elephantiasis, treatment with folk remedies is used as additional support for the body. The main course of therapy for lymphostasis is carried out with the help of medicines, physiotherapy and surgical operations (if necessary). Home remedies are aimed at cell regeneration, starting metabolic processes and removing lymph, the accumulation of which provokes severe swelling and pain in the legs.

Before using folk remedies in the treatment of lymphostasis of the lower extremities, it is necessary to consult a doctor and be tested for allergic reactions so that self-medication does not lead to a deterioration in health.

With lymphostasis of the lower extremities, home treatment should be comprehensive and include the use of internal and external agents.

Physiotherapy

The implementation of a complex of gymnastic measures for lymphostasis is necessary to resume the normal functioning of the lower extremities. All exercises are carried out in the supine position:

  1. Legs bent at the knees raise and rotate the feet in different directions.
  2. The back is in contact with the floor, the legs are bent at the knees, and the feet rest on the floor. Closed knees alternately tilt in different directions, without lifting the pelvis from the floor.
  3. In the prone position, the legs are raised and rested with the feet against the wall. Then gently stroke the hips and legs from the bottom up.
  4. Pose, as in the previous exercise. Rises on toes and rotations of the toes are performed.

The whole complex must be performed regularly, gradually increasing the training time and the number of repetitions.

Massage

The actions of a massage therapist with lymphostasis of the lower extremities are aimed at working out the lymph nodes, stimulating blood flow and drainage. The procedure should be carried out by a qualified specialist - self-massage can lead to a strong heating of the muscles, which is fraught with increased swelling.

Dr. Kapustin's method

This non-traditional method for the treatment of lymphostasis of the lower extremities The essence of the method is the use of the contents of a chicken egg with saline for injection. G.A. Kapustin believed that biomaterial from fresh eggs was a panacea for many diseases.

To reduce pain and swelling, just one injection is enough, and the full course consists of four procedures and is carried out once a week, the course lasts a month or two. Kapustin's technique is able to put the patient on his feet even at a severe stage of lymphostasis. But doctors categorically do not recommend performing procedures at home, as this can be dangerous to health.

Compresses

For the treatment of lymphostasis of the lower extremities, various types of compresses with active ingredients are effective:

  1. Honey milk. To prepare this compress, royal jelly is mixed in equal proportions. You can get a smooth liquid texture by adding a few tablespoons of water. In this mixture, the bandages are moistened and the problem areas are rewound with them, additionally wrapping them with woolen polyethylene and a scarf. Leave overnight and wash off with cool water in the morning. For an additional effect, the remedy can be taken orally - a maximum of 15 grams per day.
  2. White cabbage. Cabbage leaves, having previously slightly crushed, are applied to the legs and left for 6-7 hours. If possible, it is recommended to keep the compress during the day, from time to time changing used cabbage leaves to fresh ones. With a severe form of lymphostasis of the lower extremities, cabbage juice helps, they soak the bandage and wrap the legs.
  3. Clay. Powder of white or blue clay is famous for its disinfecting and drainage properties. Long-term use of masks helps to get rid of irritation, rough skin, lighten spots, and also reduce the volume of the legs (their swelling) by a few centimeters. Clay, mixed in water to the state of thick sour cream, is applied to previously oiled skin. For insulation, they are wrapped with polyethylene on top and left for 5–6 hours.

Treatment with compresses is carried out in courses of 20-30 procedures every other day.

Folk recipes for oral use

It is possible to enrich the body with useful microelements and have a slight diuretic effect during the manifestation of exacerbations of lymphostasis of the lower extremities using the following means:

  1. Beet juice. With regular use, it has a positive effect on the lymphatic system. It is necessary to consume freshly squeezed juice, but not more than 200 ml per knock.
  2. Dandelion. One tablespoon of the crushed root of the plant is poured with two glasses of boiling water and kept on fire for 5-10 minutes. The broth is removed from the stove and allowed to brew for 2-3 hours. It is necessary to use 50 ml twice a day.
  3. Diuretic tea. In critical situations, swelling can be removed with a tea made from a mixture of currant leaves and rose hips. It is recommended to drink no more than 100 ml per day.
  4. Garlic. Five heads of garlic are finely rubbed and mixed with 150 ml of natural liquid honey. The resulting mixture is poured into a jar and placed in a cool dark place for a week. Consume 1 tablespoon twice a day, 30 minutes before breakfast and dinner.

Nutrition rules

The therapeutic diet for lymphostasis of the lower extremities is primarily aimed at normalizing weight and eliminating foods from the diet that slow down metabolic processes and cause swelling. A balanced diet normalizes the patient's immune system, which has a beneficial effect on the healing process and significantly slows down the accumulation of pathological protein in tissues, which is one of the main causes of lymphostasis.

The diet is prescribed by the attending physician, taking into account the individual characteristics of the patient after his examination. Nutritionists with lymphostasis of the lower extremities recommend:

  • Limit salt intake - sodium prevents the excretion of fluid, which leads to the accumulation of substances in the tissues.
  • Drinking in moderation is very important. The use of pure non-carbonated water is allowed. Strong tea, coffee, alcohol, carbonated drinks and cocktails are recommended to be completely excluded. It is especially harmful to drink a lot of liquid in the afternoon - this will lead to severe swelling.
  • If the patient suffers from overweight, for the treatment of lymphostasis of the lower extremities, the number of calories consumed should be reduced by eliminating fast carbohydrates (bread, sweets, semolina, white pasta).
  • Adequate intake of protein of plant and animal origin is essential. The norm for an adult of average build is 100 grams of pure protein per day.
  • Vegetable fats are necessary to increase the elasticity of the skin, which noticeably thickens and coarsens during lymphostasis, so you cannot do without them. A sufficient amount of fat in the body strengthens the immune system, helps to remove harmful substances from the body and stimulates the movement of lymph. It will be useful for a sick person to consume at least 20 g of vegetable and 10 g of animal fats. Excellent sources of vitamin E are sesame, olive, linseed and corn oil.

Preventive measures

To prevent the occurrence of lymphostasis of the lower extremities, the following is necessary:

  • Try to avoid injuries, cuts and bruises.
  • Moisturize and care for the skin, maintain personal hygiene.
  • Weight control and proper nutrition.
  • Moderate physical activity - heavy lifting, long hikes and jogging are prohibited.
  • You can not wear tight clothes that squeeze the blood vessels, thereby preventing normal blood circulation and lymph outflow.
  • If infectious skin diseases are detected, you should immediately consult a doctor and begin treatment.
  • Hot baths and baths are prohibited.
  • Shoes that are too tight or uncomfortable should not be worn. This rule is especially true for women who are accustomed to high heels and shoes with lacing on the tops that dig into the skin, squeezing it.
  • Even minor animal bites should be treated with antiseptics.
  • The habit of sitting or standing for a long time in one position is fraught with a worsening of the situation.

For a speedy recovery, a patient with lymphostasis of the lower extremities needs to ensure the correct daily routine and protect himself from stress - sleep at least 8 hours a day, exclude cigarettes, alcohol and overeating at night.

More and more people are faced with such a problem as lymphostasis, the treatment of which with folk remedies allows for a complex effect on the body, and the use of medications has only an auxiliary effect. Treatment of lymphostasis with folk remedies has a wide range of effects on the body both from the inside and outside.

Due to the diversity of the composition of plant components, it is possible to choose the optimal treatment for each patient.

Lymphostasis: causes

Lymphostasis (or lymphedema) is lymph stasis, chronic swelling, provoked by the accumulation of intercellular fluid in tissues, mainly in the limbs. If the outflow of lymph is disturbed in the limb, then swelling is observed in this part of the body. Less common is lymphostasis of the reproductive system or the body as a whole.

The occurrence of edema is a warning that there is a malfunction in the lymphatic system.

The lymphatic system in the body plays an important role, it is part of the circulatory system and performs the following functions:

  • removal of excess fluid from the intercellular space;
  • protection of the body from harmful elements;
  • support for the functioning of the immune system.

The presence of lymphostasis in the early stages does not pose a danger to human life. However, with the development of the disease, the quality of human life deteriorates. Edema reduces motor activity, causes discomfort and pain. With progressive lymphostasis, the functioning of tissues is disrupted, seals, trophic ulcers, erysipelas, and blood poisoning occur.

Stages of lymphostasis:

  • Spontaneous reversible edema is noticeable, quite soft to the touch. There is an increase in the volume of the limb. The swelling is less in the morning than in the evening.
  • Spontaneous irreversible swelling - hard to the touch. The skin is tight and more sensitive. This is the most neglected form of lymphostasis.
  • Irreversible edema - fibrosis, cysts. The affected limb changes its contour due to tissue damage. Lymphostasis takes an extreme stage (elephantiasis). The limb loses mobility, its functioning is disturbed.

How to treat lymphedema?

Treatment of lymphostasis is aimed at restoring the outflow of fluids from the affected organs. For this, manual lymphatic drainage massage, hardware pneumocompression and physiotherapy, compression underwear, a special low-salt diet and physiotherapy exercises are intended. But when the first symptoms appear, you can solve the problem with folk remedies.

For effective treatment, be sure to follow all the prescriptions and recommendations of the doctor. Comprehensive treatment with folk remedies and compression underwear contribute to recovery and will prevent the development of the disease.

Comprehensive treatment consists in influencing the body from the inside and outside. The most common product for the treatment of lymphostasis is honey. It can be taken orally in its pure form or added to herbal decoctions and mixtures of herbal ingredients. Honey can also be used for compresses.

Folk remedies for the treatment of lymphostasis

Treatment of this disease with folk remedies, in addition to a specific action, has a beneficial effect on the body as a whole.

Recipes for internal use:

  • Dandelion decoction. To 0.5 liters of boiling water add 1 tbsp. a spoonful of ground roots. Boil the resulting mixture for 5 minutes on low heat, add honey and insist for 15 minutes, then strain through cheesecloth. Take three times a day, 100 ml.
  • Beet juice. Get raw beetroot juice using a juicer (or by grating and pressing in gauze). Drink 150 ml (with the addition of honey - optional) before breakfast and 2 hours after lunch.
  • Rosehip decoction. 2 tbsp. grind spoons of dried berries, pour 2 liters of boiling water, preferably in a thermos, and insist overnight. Take 3-7 times a day for 150-200 ml with the addition of 1/2 teaspoon of honey.
  • Decoction of plantain. 2 tbsp. spoons of dry crushed leaves pour 0.5 liters of boiling water and leave to infuse overnight. Strain in the morning and take half an hour before meals 4 times a day. Additionally, in the morning, take 1 teaspoon of honey and royal jelly.
  • A decoction of the roots of harrow and heather leaves. 1 st. pour a spoonful of the mixture (prepared in a 1: 1 ratio) into 300 ml of boiling water and cook for 3 minutes. After removing from heat, leave for 10 minutes and strain. Drink 2 tbsp. spoons 3 times a day. The course lasts 10 days. After 5 days of rest, the course can be repeated if necessary.

Recipes for body wraps, compresses, massage:

  • Wraps. Pour dry clay with water in a ratio of 1: 2, mix until the clay is completely dissolved and insist overnight. Drain excess water in the morning. Warm a few drops of mint oil and rub in the palms, then smear them on the swelling on the limbs. Spread the clay on a textile napkin of the appropriate size and wrap the limb, fixing it with an elastic band. Keep the wrap for 2-3 hours, wetting the dried bandage with a wet sponge. The limb should be placed at an angle upwards, that is, in the prone position, raise the arm behind the head and put it on a support, and keep the leg at an angle to the pelvis. You need to carry out the procedure every day before going to bed for a month.
  • Compresses. Grate fresh potatoes, put in an even layer 0.5 cm thick on a double layer of gauze and wrap the sore limb. Keep the compress for 1 hour, repeat daily in the evenings. Instead of potatoes, you can use beets, cucumbers or tomatoes.
  • For massage, preparations containing oils of lavender, peppermint, camphor tree, horse chestnut, spruce resin are suitable. When using pure essential oils, they should be used in combination with a base oil (sunflower or olive). For 15 g of base oil, 1-2 drops of essential oil are required.

Treatment of lymphostasis with hirudotherapy

Hirudotherapy - treatment with leeches. For centuries, people have used leeches for medicinal purposes. Leeches restore and normalize intravascular blood flow. Leeches have proven themselves in removing local tissue edema.

Hirudotherapy guarantees a positive result if it works in combination with massage, compresses and oral medications, both medical and natural.

The breakdown of hyaluronic acid improves the flow of lymph and, as a result, reduces swelling and inflammation. Thanks to the saliva of leeches, which contains a large amount of enzymes and biological substances, the blood is cleansed, the general condition of the body improves, and pressure normalizes. Treatment with leeches must be carried out under the supervision of a physician. Only a specialist will determine the required number of leeches, the frequency of hirudotherapy sessions, the points for placing leeches on the lymphatic collectors.

Hirudotherapy has a number of complications: inflammation of the lymph nodes, the appearance of allergic reactions (rash or angioedema). Less commonly, hypotension, anemia, and hematomas may occur.

For effective treatment of lymphostasis, it is necessary to approach the solution of this problem in a complex manner.

They will conduct examinations and establish the stage of lymphostasis, select a comprehensive treatment that includes both medications and procedures, as well as folk remedies that provide a full spectrum of action on the affected part of the body and the body as a whole. At the initial stage, doctors can prescribe only folk remedies with a gentle effect on the body. The first stage in treatment is getting advice from a specialist. Phlebologists treat diseases of the blood and lymph flow.

Treatment of lymphedema. Clinic, diagnosis of lymphostasis.

Swelling of the legs is a fairly common occurrence for most people, especially in the evenings after a long day at work. Often they disappear by morning, but if this phenomenon is repeated every day, it may indicate a problem with the veins, and further lead to varicose veins or thrombophlebitis. If the swelling does not go down in the morning, most likely, your diagnosis is lymphostasis of the lower extremities. Treatment of this disease is recommended to start as early as possible, while the lymphatic system copes with its tasks at least partially.

Causes and symptoms of the three stages of lymphostasis

Lymphostasis is a disease that occurs in women 5 times more often than in men. Why it happens this way, doctors cannot answer unequivocally, but the main reasons for its occurrence have already been identified:

  1. Diseases of various organs and systems.
  2. Changes in the veins or lymphatic vessels.
  3. Low protein content.
  4. The presence of microorganisms in the body, for example, streptococci.
  5. Congenital anomaly of the lymphatic system.

Lymphostasis has several stages of development, each of them has its own symptoms:

  1. Lymphedema (reversible swelling) affects the ankle, toes, and foot. In this case, the edema is palpable, even visible visually, but is not accompanied by pain. The skin in this area becomes pale, slightly flabby, forms a fold. After rest, the swelling disappears or decreases significantly.
  2. Fibredema (irreversible edema) extends to almost the entire limb, accompanied by pain, heaviness, and sometimes convulsions. After pressing in the area of edema, a trace remains in the form of a dent for a long time, and it does not go away even after rest.
  3. Elephantiasis is an extensive growth of subcutaneous tissue and which leads to an incredible increase in the limb. The name of the stage comes from the similarity of the limb of a sick person with the foot of an elephant. The stage is accompanied by pain, inflammation and ulcers of the skin.

Diagnosis and staging of lymphostasis

How to deal with swelling in the limbs depends on the correctness of the diagnosis. If phlebologists or lymphologists have established that there is lymphostasis of the lower extremities, treatment with folk remedies, medicines and massages should be started without delay. How is the diagnosis made? An integrated approach includes:

  • visual inspection;
  • biochemical analysis of urine and blood;
  • Ultrasound of vessels and tissues;
  • lymphography.

Only after a diagnosis has been made and the severity of the disease determined, treatment can be started.

Treatment of lymphostasis with the use of medications

So, your diagnosis is lymphostasis of the lower extremities. Treatment with folk remedies is not in your rules? In this case, you will be prescribed medication, and only according to an individual schedule - depending on the characteristics of the body, the stage of the disease, and possible individual intolerance to the drugs. Basically, the following drugs are prescribed for treatment:

  1. Phlebotonics to improve microcirculation and lymph outflow.
  2. Preparations for enzyme therapy that relieve inflammation and swelling.
  3. Diuretics are diuretics.
  4. Antibacterial agents.

Most often, these drugs are used in combination and only with prolonged use effectively treat lymphostasis of the lower extremities.

Treatment with folk remedies

At the initial stage of lymphostasis, folk remedies will be quite effective. For example, a compress of onions and tar has proven itself well. To prepare the mixture, one onion is baked (it is not necessary to clean it first), cooled, cleaned and chopped. To this porridge you need to add a tablespoon of tar and mix everything thoroughly. Apply the resulting product evenly to the fabric and wrap it around the sore spot, then fix and leave overnight. If you have lymphostasis of the lower extremities, treatment with folk remedies may include decoctions, infusions and mixtures taken orally:

Massage treatment

Massage with lymphostasis of the lower extremities is one of the ways to improve the patient's condition. This is not about home self-massage, but about professional procedures that are effective only in the first two stages. The action of the massage is aimed at activating the outflow of lymph and reducing blood vessels. This leads to a significant reduction in the volume of the limbs. In medicine, it is used (pneumocompression) and manual lymphatic drainage. The procedure ends with bandaging - bandaging using an elastic bandage.

You can find out about the causes, stages of development and diagnosis of this pathology in the article “causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment”.

For the treatment of lymphostasis by folk methods, plants will be required that contain a large amount of vitamins C and P, which help to thin the lymph. These include decoctions of currant leaves, cranberries, rose hips. Vitamin P is found in red fruits: currants, mountain ash, grapes, pomegranates and beets.

Alternative methods of treatment of lymphostasis

Tar treatment

Roast a medium sized onion in the oven. Then clean it and put 1 tbsp. tar bought in a pharmacy. Spread the resulting mass on a bandage rolled up in several layers and apply to the affected area. Remove the compress in the morning, drink 1 tsp. royal milk and eat 1 tbsp. honey. Bee products accelerate the treatment of lymphostasis. Do a similar procedure with a compress for 1-2 months.

Treatment of lymphostasis with plantain

2 tbsp crushed dried plantain leaves bought at a pharmacy or plucked from the side of the road and dried, pour 400 g of strong boiling water and let the composition brew overnight. In the morning, strain the broth through cheesecloth (sieve) and consume 100 ml four times a day 30 minutes before meals. Also in the morning before eating, eat bee products (1 tsp royal jelly, 1 tbsp honey). Continue the course of treatment for 1–2 months.

Herbal treatment

Prepare a decoction of crushed flowers of sandy immortelle and dense-flowered astragalus, in equal proportions. Add 500 g of Iceland moss thallus and 20 g each of oak bark, birch bark and horse chestnut fruit. Mix all ingredients. Take 2 tbsp. prepared dry mixture of herbs, pour 400 ml of boiling water over them and cook for about 5 minutes. Steep the broth until completely cooled, then strain. Use the remedy 100 ml four times a day.

garlic treatment

500 g of garlic, peel and twist in a meat grinder. Pour it with 300 g of honey of a liquid consistency and insist in a cool dark place for a week. Take the remedy for 1 tbsp. three times a day one hour before meals. Continue treatment for 2 months.

Treatment by succession

6 tbsp crushed string pour 2 liters of boiling water and boil for 5-7 minutes. Filter the cooled broth and do baths for 15 minutes twice a day for 3-4 weeks.

Treatment of lymphostasis with dandelions

1 tbsp dandelion roots pour 500 ml of boiling water. Boil for 5 minutes, leave for 15 minutes, then strain. Use a decoction of 100 ml twice a day and put compresses for 30 minutes on a sore spot, which is then wrapped well.

Rosehip treatment

Crush 10 tbsp with a culinary mallet. , which pour 1.5 liters of boiling water in a thermos, leave for 2 hours and strain. Then take an infusion of 100 ml 5 times a day. Continue treatment for 2 months.

Tea treatment

Not bad improves lymph flow 100 ml of diuretic tea brewed from currant leaves with rose hips. The infusion is drunk 30 minutes before each meal.

  • Provide hygienic care for the affected limb. Carefully remove calluses and nails only with individual scissors. Always disinfect instruments and skin with alcohol or cologne, otherwise the infection will penetrate into the lymph.
  • Avoid household injuries. A minor injury, scratch or burn inflicted by a pet can cause an infection that worsens the condition of lymphedema. If this happens, treat the injury with tincture of iodine, brilliant green, or alcohol.
  • To keep the skin in good shape and prevent the formation of micro-damages and micro-cracks that are characteristic of lymphostasis, use a baby or nourishing cream containing vitamin F.
  • To prevent the development of lymphatic edema and an increase in lymph production, do not overheat the body.
  • Stagnation to the lymph leads to sitting on a chair, legs crossed.
  • In the treatment of lymphostasis, diet is important. It is necessary to limit the use of animal proteins. With this disease, they collect in the tissues, retain water and provoke the development of lymphedema. Bitter pepper, table salt and other foods that cause thirst are excluded from the diet.

Conservative treatment of lymphedema

The initial stage of the disease is aimed at improving the outflow of lymph, getting rid of excess fluid in the tissues and removing harmful toxins from the body. This is achieved by daily exercises and procedures in the morning or evening.

  • Lying on your back, place a large pillow under your feet. Raise your legs vertically and leave in this position for 10-15 minutes. Even if the leg swells, despite the pain, lift it up and hold it for as long as you have patience, but not less than 7-10 minutes.
  • When going to bed, put your feet above the level of your heart, and your sore arm on the pillow.
  • With light pressure and stroking movements, massage the diseased limb, applying a thin layer of heparin or troxevasin ointment to it.
  • Engage in physiotherapy procedures: pneumomassage, vibration massage, electrical stimulation of the lymphatic vessels. Then apply a compression bandage or bandage.
