Funny traditions. Interesting customs and traditions of different countries. Germany: sock garland

The most unimaginable sexual customs from different parts of the Earth, which you probably haven't heard of before.

They are not very compatible with the progressive 21st century; many of them seem to be an invention of a writer with an overactive fantasy. But, whatever one may say, these things actually exist and are practiced with might and main. It invites you to get acquainted with the most unimaginable sexual customs from different parts of the Earth, which you probably have not heard of before.

"Love Hut" for teenagers

In most countries, fathers try to keep their young daughters away from the opposite sex as long as possible. Things are different in the Cambodian Kreung tribe. Here, men not only approve of the early romantic relationships of their daughters, but even build special “love huts” for them, where girls can bring their gentlemen to get to know them better and better.

In such a hut, a girl is free to bring an unlimited number of suitors. Dates, according to the customs of the tribe, can last until the mistress of the hut finds the very one - the guy of her dreams, with whom she will connect life. Probably, this practice is connected with the law, according to which it is strictly forbidden for married couples to get divorced.

Sharing as brothers

Some tribes in Nepal practice what is known as "fraternal polyandry". That is, several men share one woman among themselves. As a rule, such a phenomenon is characteristic of men connected by family ties, first of all, brothers. It is believed that this tradition appeared due to the lack of land suitable for agriculture. Instead of each brother marrying and living in a separate family, men find themselves one woman and live together under one roof, using one piece of land.

night of change

In Indonesia, a holiday called "Pon" is held 7 times a year. As part of this celebration, spouses are allowed to cheat on each other - to choose a partner for sexual pleasures on the side. Participants of the holiday believe that in this way you can attract good luck. Well, the happiest, according to local beliefs, will be the one who manages to enter into a sexual relationship with the same stranger 7 times in a year.

Sex in clothes

On the small island of Inis Big, not far from Ireland, there lives a community in which sex is considered a shameful hobby. Members of this community are allowed to engage in love pleasures exclusively in underwear, without being naked.

Exhibitionism as a way of flirting

The native women of the island of Bougainville (part of the state of Papua New Guinea) practice a rite of attracting partners through a public demonstration of their intimate places. According to custom, if a woman makes such a gesture, it means that she invites a man to enter into sexual relations with her.

sex lessons

The inhabitants of the small island of Mangaia in the Pacific Ocean have a habit of teaching the younger generation of men in sexual wisdom. As soon as the boy turns 13, he can choose a partner for himself - a mature woman. A lady must teach a teenager all the intimate secrets accumulated over her life. The main task of the teacher is to explain to the student how to make the sexual intercourse the longest, so that his future wife is always satisfied.

Cocktail of masculinity

An even stranger test is experienced by adolescents from the Sambia community (again, Papua New Guinea). Here it is customary for boys to be isolated from women for three whole years, so that they are not subjected to temptations. But this is not the worst. During the period of seclusion, teenagers are forced to drink a special cocktail, which, according to local beliefs, will help make real men out of them. The basis of the drink is the sperm of the elders of the tribe.

Love for smaller brothers

In most countries, zoosexual relations are illegal. But there are exceptions. For example, in Lebanon, men are officially allowed to have sex with a pet. True, with one caveat - the pet must be female. For a relationship with a male, a man faces the death penalty. Until 2015, such relationships were allowed in Denmark. "Love" with animals in this state was banned in April and introduced a penalty for violation - a year in prison.

Sex in front of witnesses

In the city of Cali, located in the southwest of Colombia, there is an interesting custom regarding the wedding night. According to him, a girl entering into an intimate relationship with her husband for the first time should do this in the presence of her mother, who acts as a witness.

show night

Something similar is practiced in the Marquesas Islands (French Polynesia). There is a common custom among the locals, according to which spouses, entering into an intimate relationship, do not forbid their offspring to observe the process, so that they remember for the future what's what.

How many interesting and unknown are hidden in the traditions of the peoples of our planet. And, the mysterious and forbidden topic of sex could not stand aside and, naturally, was reflected in various rituals and customs, sometimes very unusual. So, let's go on a trip.

Australia

Australian aborigines - wars, instead of the usual handshake for us, they demonstrate friendliness with a slightly different gesture, namely, by touching the penis of their interlocutor.

Northern Kamchatka

Until now, in the remote villages of Northern Kamchatka, a centuries-old tradition of copulation of a guest with the wife of the owner of the house has been preserved. Moreover, for the sake of the consent of the guest, the woman is ready for anything, as this is considered a great honor. And, if after the act a woman becomes pregnant, then at all, good luck and happiness will be to this house and the whole village.

Tibet

In order to get married, a Tibetan girl must have at least a dozen sexual partners on her account.

Polynesia

Here, the number of sexual relations of the bride is not particularly important, but at the same time, she must have at least two children.

Germany

Germany, as well as many other European countries, is famous for the promiscuity of sexual relations between people. The following German custom is especially interesting: when the Cologne festival takes place, passers-by quite seriously offer each other to have sex and have it, sometimes without even getting to know each other.

Oceania

Local customs force the bride to marry a virgin, and before the girl is admitted to her fiancé, she has to go through the rite of deflowering with a stone knife. The ceremony is performed by the groom's friends, who can have sex with their friend's future wife for another three days. Then, the “happy” newlywed goes to other men of the tribe and, only after them, to her lawful spouse.

South Africa

The men of the local tribes, afraid to bear offspring in the form of twins, who here are the prototype of sin and the most terrible curses, cut out one testicle for themselves. In other matters, as you know, the servants of the harems of the East - eunuchs, subject themselves to a more terrible execution - absolute castration.

Other African tribes force the representatives of the stronger sex to undergo some kind of test before the wedding. Namely, to have sex with the mother of the bride, as many times as needed, in order to prove their worth. True, before that they undergo a mandatory examination (in the literal sense of the word: teeth, body, and so on) before their future father-in-law.

Central Africa: the Shilluk tribe

The leader of the tribe has the right to marry the most beautiful girls, even if there are more than a hundred of them. But, God forbid, his wives start a conversation about the fact that their husband - the leader does not satisfy them. In this case, the poor fellow is threatened not only with overthrow from his honorary post, but also with death in terrible agony, because, as the Shilluk belief says, an impotent person cannot betray the power of fertility to the earth and the barnyard.

Brazil: Jerusalem artichoke Indians

Local tribes believe that women only like the huge size of the genitals, and therefore, these very organs are subjected to the bites of the most poisonous snakes (for swelling and enlargement)

Micronesia: the Panape tribe

To excite women, bites of stinging ants are used.

Japan and Korea

Since ancient times and still, to enhance passion, Japanese and Korean women use their “crown” technique - a prick of the groin with a golden needle.
Undoubtedly, some of the customs of peoples far from us seem terrifying to us, but who knows, maybe our habits would have shocked them.

From temple prostitution in Mesopotamia to the ancient Japanese sexual tradition with the poetic name "yobai"

In ancient times, in some settlements of Kamchatka, a night spent by a guest with the owner's wife was considered a special honor for the house. The lady, by the way, tried to seduce the guest in every possible way. And if she also managed to get pregnant, then it was celebrated by the whole village. What was, of course, reasonable - fresh genes. Such traditions are not uncommon: the Eskimos and Chukchi, for example, also used the beauty of their wives for the benefit of the clan. They gave them to "use" the men who went to fish. Well, in Tibet it was generally believed that if a guest liked someone else's wife, then the will of higher powers and it was impossible to resist them.

About quirks

For example, in Tibet, a girl was considered an enviable bride only when she changed a dozen or two partners. Virgins, as you can see, were not held in high esteem in the country of the Dalai Lama. But the Brazilians from the Jerusalem artichoke tribe made impressive sacrifices to please their ladies. The fact is that the girls found only huge genitals worthy of their attention. To do this, men exposed their penises to poisonous snakes, after the bites of which male dignity met the expectations of discerning Jerusalem artichoke women.

But the Indians, experienced in love, had much more options for extreme entertainment of this kind. For example, their treatises on the art of love taught the use of "apadravia" - a male piercing made of gold, silver, iron, wood or buffalo horns! And the great-grandfather of the modern condom "yalaka" - an empty tube inside with pimples on the outside - was also invented in India. In Japan and Korea, there was a curious practice of enhancing the male orgasm. To make it more vivid and memorable, a prick in the groin with a golden needle is enough, Eastern traditions say. The inhabitants of the Trobriand Islands were very inventive in bed comforts. What is only the habit of biting the eyelashes of a partner, this is considered their traditional caress. I would like to see the teeth of these entertainers, because in order to gnaw through an eyelash, the teeth must be at least sharp.
Sex thrill-seekers from the Batta tribe of Sumatra had a tradition of sticking stones or pieces of metal under the foreskin. They believed that this way they could deliver much more pleasure to their partner. Argentine Indians also had a similar idea in their arsenal. They attached horsehair tassels to the phallus. It is terrible to think about the hygiene of meetings with such fellows.
The residents of Tanzania increased their attractiveness in an interesting way. They did not adorn themselves and did not dress up. They stole from the man they wanted... a hoe and sandals! In those parts, the listed things are of particular value, so the man, willy-nilly, had to go to rescue the property, and there - what the hell is not joking.
And what about our compatriots?

Japan - crawl and yobai

An ancient sexual tradition with the poetic name "yobai" existed in the Japanese outback until the end of the 19th century. The essence of the custom “stalking in the night” (approximate translation) was as follows: any young man, under the cover of night, had the right to enter the house of an unmarried young lady, crawl under her blanket and, if the chosen one was not opposed, engage directly in the delicious “yobai” . In Russian, however, it does not sound like the name of a tradition, but more like a call to action.
If a Japanese girl came across intractable, then an upset young man had to go home. Like any tradition, the yobai custom was governed by strict rules. A potential lover had to go on a romantic date completely naked, since a night visit by a dressed man was considered a robbery and could end badly for him. However, the guy had the right to cover his face and appear before the girl as a beautiful stranger. Such are the Japanese role-playing games.

Tibet - one way trip

Once in Tibet, visiting men were greeted with genuine cordiality. In the travel notes of the famous traveler Marco Polo, he tells about the local sexual tradition, which ordered all young girls to copulate with at least twenty different men before marriage. Either there were few men in Tibet, or fresh girls, according to custom, were intended exclusively for strangers, but travelers were worth their weight in gold here. And those poor fellows who could not stand up for themselves, sexual swindlers literally "teared slippers like Tuzik." Therefore, the trip to Tibet for some of our brothers became the last.

South America - Indian bab formation

The sexual traditions of the Kagaba tribe can forever discourage a man from conscientiously fulfilling his marital duty and having offspring. Representatives of the strong half of the tribe are terribly afraid of women. It's all about the strange ritual of initiation of young men into men: a young Kagaba Indian must acquire his first sexual experience with the oldest lady of the family. For this reason, in marital relations, a man is uninitiated, and if his wife hints at intimacy, then he prefers to cowardly hide in the jungle in a bunker pre-equipped for such purposes (like he went hunting).
It happens that several fugitives are hiding in a bachelor's lair at the same time. Then the female half of the tribe equips a search expedition. Role-playing games of slave and mistress always end predictably. Dissatisfied wives scour the jungle until they find the caches and return their faithful to the bosom of the family.

Africa - food preferences
Who is interested in military parades? Only the military, but the common people demand bread and circuses. The king of Swaziland knows exactly how to make a feast of the soul for his subjects, and therefore every year he arranges a grand procession of virgins. Thousands of seductive scantily clad beauties cheerfully march in front of the monarch. It has become a good sexual tradition in Swaziland when the king chooses a new wife from the parade participants, and each failed wife is rewarded with a large bowl of food. And believe me, according to local criteria, this is a royal gift!

The sexual traditions of the peoples of the world are different, as are the standards of beauty. How can a woman from the Zambezi Valley be considered attractive if she has a mouthful of teeth like a crocodile? To become beautiful, a Batoka girl had to get married. On the wedding night, the satisfied spouse turned the “ugly” girl into a beautiful woman, knocking out her front teeth. Such a custom, accompanied by a simple plastic surgery, makes a batoka woman happy and a radiant smile never leaves her face again. In the Baganda tribe (East Africa), there is a belief that sex directly on agricultural land significantly increases their fertility. By the way, such a sexual tradition was inherent in many peoples. However, the natives did not arrange vulgar orgies in the beds of plantain (the main fodder crop of the Bagandans). For the ritual, a married couple was chosen - the parents of twins. The event was held on the field of the tribal leader and consisted of the following: the woman lay on her back, a plantain flower was placed in her vagina, and the husband had to get it without the help of hands, using only the penis. According to the custom, the family of agronomists had to demonstrate the miracles of balancing act only on the leader's field. In the gardens of their fellow tribesmen, it was not necessary to play role-playing games, it was enough to dance a little.

Mesopotamia - temple prostitution

Every inhabitant of ancient Babylon had to make a sacrifice to the goddess of love, Ishtar. To perform the ritual, the lady went to the sanctuary of the goddess, sat down in a conspicuous place and waited for an unfamiliar man to choose her. The client gave the chosen one a coin, after which they went to some secluded corner, where they made a generous sacrifice.
Once was enough. However, some especially zealous Babylonians constantly practiced such role-playing games, offering strangers an interesting vacation for money, which later went to the needs of the temple. It was impossible to leave his territory before the end of the ritual, so a pretty girl “shot back” quickly, and an unsightly young lady had to wait for her prince for a long time, sometimes even for years! Housing and food were provided. Similar sexual traditions existed in Cyprus, and Greek girls sacrificed to the goddess Aphrodite.

Russia is a country of councils

Family life in Russia is not easy! The couple to be married had to feel this statement already at the wedding. All night before the holiday, the bride, according to the ancient Slavic custom, untwisted her braids and sang dreary songs with her bridesmaids. In the morning, a bunch of tiring wedding ceremonies awaited her, which continued until late in the evening and on an empty stomach. Even during the festive feast, the bride was not allowed to eat. The groom was also not sweet - all the celebration he was obliged to cheerfully gallop around numerous relatives.
And finally, the feast ended. Exhausted young found themselves alone in the bedchamber and were going to have unrestrained sex and fall asleep. Dreaming! The sexual tradition assumed the active participation of relatives on the wedding night of the newlyweds - the guests screamed obscene ditties under the bedroom windows until the morning, and one of them (specially chosen for this purpose) periodically knocked on the door and asked: “Is the ice broken?”. In such an environment, the groom soon began to realize that the mission was impossible, and his efforts were in vain, despite the narrowed body immobilized from fatigue. Therefore, the young spouse was given the opportunity to rehabilitate himself over the next few nights. If the matter still did not go well, then experienced advisers were connected to it: the brother or father of the groom. It is known that in some villages in Ukraine, an authorized prompter sat comfortably under the bed, from where he helped the newlyweds with good advice on how to do everything right, and at the same time created an atmosphere of an unusual holiday with his presence.

Micronesia - love with a spark

If you are sure that role-playing games with elements of sadomasochism were invented by the notorious marquis, I hasten to disappoint - this is a common misconception. The natives of Truck Island were addicted to self-mutilation during sex even before the mother of the Marquis de Sade faked an orgasm in a simple missionary position. The custom was as follows: while the partner diligently puffed, making reciprocating movements, the ardent lover set fire to small breadfruit balls on his body. It is rather difficult to imagine how she did this during sex ... It can be assumed that the man did not copulate with the whole lady, but with a distant part of her (for example, the heel). These natives are such pranksters!

Shaking hands as a sign of greeting for the weak
Forget about wiping your nose. Men from some Eskimo tribes line up to greet a stranger. Whereupon the first of them steps forward and gives the stranger a good slap on the top of the head, and expects a similar response from the stranger. Slaps and blows continue until one of the parties (the Eskimos or their unfortunate guest) falls to the ground. Would you like to try this greeting? How would you like a tradition that flourishes among some of the tribes in Papua New Guinea? There it is customary to greet a man by touching the tip of his penis ... men walk there almost naked.

Genus is a relative concept.
For many Indians, Native Americans, the concept of "third kind" was quite common (as a rule, it was applied to men who led a female lifestyle). Anthropologists call them "berdachi", and contemporaries of such people called them more simply - "two-hearted", berdachi played an important role in the life of the community. According to an article by researcher Richard Drexler, published in the journal Social History, double-minded people tended to spend time in the company of women, doing household chores, such as cooking, sewing, or any other social role peculiar to a woman. Moreover, other men from the tribe could take double-hearted wives. Drexler cites in his article evidence that boys, endowed by nature with special beauty, were originally brought up as “berdachi”, because their beauty could subsequently attract potential husbands. Unmarried "berdachi" played the role of "companions" of young warriors, who, if there were no double-hearted people, would turn their sexual energy on young girls from the tribe.

Marry you? Catch me if you can
When people began to unite in clans and tribes, the concept of "courtship" included a raid on the territory of neighbors, ending in the capture of a woman who was forced to marry a valiant kidnapper. And, although "bride kidnapping" subsided with the advent and spread of organized religious beliefs, some of the cultural "atavisms" of this tradition are alive to this day. Among the Arabs living in the Sinai Peninsula, there is a tradition: a girl receives the status of purity and modesty, which is directly proportional to how much she will resist on her wedding day and how many tears she will shed about this. According to Irish tradition, marriage is hardly legal unless the bride makes an attempt to escape and the groom's friends catch her. In Wales, the following tradition exists: the bride's relatives must intercept the bride at the door of the church and try to escape with her, forcing the groom and his relatives to give chase, when the stolen bride is caught, she will be solemnly handed over to the future husband.

A real man
A boy from the South African tribe of Khosa is considered a "thing" and not a person until he undergoes a traditional circumcision ritual called "abakweta". Katherine Stewart writes that the ritual is usually performed after the boy has completed the teenage stage of his life, but it may be performed earlier. To perform the ritual, the surgeon-priest comes at dawn to the family house, as soon as they see him, the women begin to wail. As soon as the priest notices the boy, who is about to undergo the initiation ceremony, he begins to scream, calling the unfortunate "dog" or "thing". The operation is performed with a sharpened blade, the boy should neither burst into tears nor twist in pain. Once the foreskin is severed, the “doctor” proudly declares, “You are now a man,” and flings the cut off skin in front of the boy, who must lift the skin and, clenching his fist tightly, repeat: “I am a man.” The boy must bury his foreskin in an anthill, his wound will be lined with special leaves and smeared with mud. After that, the priest prepares a mixture of water and earth from the anthill, smears this slurry on the face and chest of an accomplished man, and to top it off, makes him drink a whole sip of water-earth slurry. After this stage of execution, the boy is painted head to toe with white clay and wrapped in a new blanket, and the father of the "man" pays the priest 50 cents. Unfortunately, as Stewart testifies, many young people are then taken to hospitals in the Eastern Cape with diagnoses such as severe dehydration, sepsis and gangrene, many of them never fully recover.

Bath twice a year, but why more often?
Due to prejudice and excessive church dissatisfaction with the sight of the naked human body, medieval Europe practically forgot about regular bathing and personal hygiene. Even wealthy families gave themselves a “full wash” no more than a couple of times a year, in May and October. Twice a year people took a bath in a huge tub filled with hot water. The head of the family or the owner of the house was the first to climb into the clean hot water, followed by his sons in order of priority, immediately after them all male relatives or guests who are currently on the estate. As soon as the men somehow scraped off the dirt from themselves, it was the turn of the women, the mistress of the house went first, after which the female children, the babies had to be dipped into the already pretty dirty water last. By the time it was the turn of the babies, the water in the tub was already so black that medieval matrons were strongly advised not to let the baby out of their hands while bathing. So it's actually not surprising that women covered their hair, and men shaved their heads bald and wore wigs. But not everyone, not everyone could afford good quality wigs. Instead of being washed, wigs were stuffed into a loaf of bread gutted from the inside and baked in an oven. The heat of the stove fluffed up the wig, making it lush, and lush hair was considered a sign of human health.

Seven times a year for success
Seven times a year, at a festival called Pon, Indonesians go on a pilgrimage to the holy mountain on the island of Java in order to perform a ritual that brings good luck. In order to be blessed with good fortune, they must spend a night of love with someone other than their own spouse. According to the belief, wishes will come true only if the Indonesian lies all seven times with the same person.

Burning with love
Despite the fact that in 1829 the rite of "sati" was banned, India could not easily and quickly abandon this part of its ancient culture. When a man died, his body was transported to the place of cremation, accompanied by his wife, dressed in the best outfit, her friends and relatives. Arriving at the place of cremation, the wife had to go around the funeral pyre 7 times and sit next to the body of her husband, rejoicing that she could go to another world with him. After that, the relatives tied the unfortunate woman and threw dry branches into the fire after it was kindled. Even girls of 10 years old had to perform the ritual "sati" if the man to whom they were given in marriage "played in the box."

Author of sadism
The Marquis de Sade, perhaps the most infamous author in French literature, is not so much known for his handwritten writings as for his penchant for violent play. The term "sadism", meaning a sexual perversion in which pleasure is felt from inflicting physical or mental pain on other people, first appeared in dictionaries in 1834, 20 years after de Sade's death. In 1768, the Marquis de Sal rented a prostitute named Rose Keller, whom he kept in captivity for a long time, mocking her in every possible way. In the following years, he was found guilty of many sex crimes, for which he was imprisoned for three decades, which may have brought some kind of pleasure to his twisted brain.

creative greetings
According to Betty and Franz Baumley's Gesture Dictionary, the world uses different parts of the body in the most amusing way in the process of communication. For example, in Tibet it is customary to greet a familiar person by showing him the thumb of his right hand and at the same time sticking out his tongue. In Tahiti, you can show your joy at the arrival of your friend in a completely creepy way: cut yourself with shark teeth and howl in pain. Filipinos as a sign of greeting should rub the palm (or foot of the guest, depending on its importance) on their face.

Alternative to "thank you"
In Thailand, it is considered absolutely normal to burp loudly after a hearty meal, but in the same Thailand it is considered impolite to step on food, point at something with the toe of a shoe, or touch the head of another person.

The customs and traditions of other peoples are interesting, surprising, and sometimes strange and even shocking. People of a different nationality may express their feelings or mood in a completely different way than is customary with us. Also, the peoples of different countries of the world have unique rituals, beliefs and holidays that reflect their history or beliefs. Knowing all these nuances, you can better understand how people live in a particular country. Learning national customs is not only entertaining, but also useful if you are planning to travel.

The strangest and most original traditions of the peoples of the world

Undoubtedly, one of the important aspects of any culture is its rules of etiquette: the way of greeting, parting, behavior at the table, etc. For example, it is customary among Russians to shake hands, loving and friendly Spaniards can generally kiss when they meet. But in Japan, it’s better not to do this - they value personal space and only let close friends in.

What other oddities are there in the world? Here is a ranking of the 10 most unusual traditions of other countries:

  1. On the streets of India, you can see men holding hands. This does not mean that they are in a romantic relationship. This is how they show their friendship. But Indian couples in love never express their love in public.
  2. In Germany, they don't clap their hands when they want to applaud. To express their feelings, the Germans used to knock on the table.
  3. The people of some Asian countries, such as China, Korea or Japan, consider it good form to slurp while eating at a party. Thus, they show the owner that the dish is very tasty.
  4. In Japan, it is considered indecent and rude to blow your nose in public. If someone needs to clean their nose, then they do it away from everyone and very quietly.
  5. It is taboo for South Koreans to write someone's name in red, and that's because red ink was previously used to write the names of dead people.
  6. In Malaysia, pointing with your index finger is rude and offensive. Instead, it is customary to point at things with the thumb.

Another interesting feature: while in many countries people shy away from cemeteries, in Denmark they are turned into a kind of parks where you can socialize. Pretty pragmatic use of space, right?

Holidays are part of the culture of the people. Often they use unusual rites and customs, which can be very funny, and sometimes frightening.

monkey banquet

In Thailand, the Monkey Banquet festival is held annually, dedicated to the god Rama, who, according to legend, was helped by monkeys to defeat enemies in a big battle.

In the last month of November, the monkeys, who live in the province of Lopburi and are considered sacred among the locals, set tables in the middle of the temple with a huge amount of fruits, vegetables, sweets and drinks.

They say that more than half a thousand primates gather there and it takes about 2 tons of food to feed them! Their feast looks very funny: uncivilized guests throw food, fight for the right to get the most delicious fruit, tease the tourists who have come.

tomato fights

Snowball fight is the last century. In Spain, tomatoes are used for these purposes! At the Tomatina festival, which is held there every August, thousands of people gather to take part in the tomato battle. Vegetables are brought on wagons and all participants in the action throw each other for an hour, turning everything around into red goo. In total, about 15 tons of tomatoes are used in the battle!

Officially, the holiday is dedicated to the patron saint of the city, Saint Louis, but in fact it has long been a lure for tourists.

goose day

On the occasion of this Spanish holiday, held in the city of Bilbao, a goose is chosen, greased and tied over the water with a rope. Competitors swim up to him on a boat and jump up to catch him. The goal is to tear off the animal's head. The winner receives his carcass and universal respect.

It is worth mentioning that a live goose was previously used, but then, at the request of the Society for the Protection of Animals, it was replaced with a dead one. To some, the competition may seem cruel, but for the Spaniards it is an indicator of the strength, endurance and dexterity of men.

cobra festival

Indians have worshiped snakes since ancient times, especially cobras are considered sacred. In Indian temples there are images and statues of these reptiles, they pray and make sacrifices.

In some cities and villages of India, a festival is held in honor of the worship of snakes "Nag Panchami". It passes in the middle of summer. Just then, heavy rains flood the burrows of reptiles and they crawl out.

Nag Panchami is directly dedicated to the god Shiva, who is depicted with cobras around his neck. During the festival, people dance to the music while carrying snakes in pots on their heads. The procession goes around the whole village and moves to the main temple. After chants and prayers, snakes are sprinkled with turmeric, they are given honey with milk to appease them, and they are released into the courtyard of the temple. Animals crawl, performing peculiar dances. The holiday looks spectacular and bewitching, which attracts crowds of tourists.

It is noteworthy that people are often bitten during the holiday, and some snakes are poisonous, but no one suffers from this. Phenomenal!

Krampus night

This terrible holiday is celebrated in the first 2 weeks of December before Christmas in Austria, Bavaria and Switzerland. About a thousand men dress up as Krampus - devilish creatures with horns and hooves, which are the antipode of Santa Claus. They walk the streets, scaring children and adults. Caught "pranksters" Krampus beat with rods.

The celebration is accompanied by mass fairs, processions and competitions. Residents of cities compete for the best and scariest costume. They are not afraid of evil!

Rites and rituals

Especially unusual and strange are the customs and traditions of the peoples of the world associated with religion, marriage and various initiation rituals. Some of them may seem absurd, but the natives believe that this is important, so you should not consider them stupid. Perhaps some of the traditions of our country also seem to someone devoid of meaning.

  1. Japanese warriors still adhere to the code of Bushido, according to which, in case of defeat, he must commit suicide. Better to die than fall into the hands of the enemy.
  2. In Muslim countries, 2 days before the wedding, a girl is covered with temporary henna tattoos - mehendi, which symbolize femininity, fertility and good luck. They should only be worn by a woman who is happily married. Mehendi is usually painted on the feet and hands. The longer the tattoo lasts, the better, so the bride is even exempted from housework.

Chinese brides, namely the residents of the city of Fujii, have to cry for a whole month before the wedding. This is how they prepare for married life. Maybe they think that they will cry out all the tears and will not have to cry in the future?

  • And here is another unusual folk rite. When a man of the Tanomani tribe (Brazil) dies, his body is cremated. Relatives of the deceased mix the ashes with a decoction of plantain and drink. They believe that this pleases the dead soul, which finds a resting place in their bodies.
  • The Greeks have a strange custom of spitting on everything. In their opinion, such a ritual brings good luck and scares the devil away. Some festive customs of the peoples of the world can plunge into a state of shock any person who is uninitiated in the subtleties of their national culture. What is worth only a crowd of people in costumes of the devil, jumping over babies during the Spanish festival "El Colacho", or old sofas flying from the windows of the houses of the South African city of Johannesburg on New Year's Eve! Native customs will seem to you just a childish prank compared to what people in other countries do. Today we will remember the strangest traditions from around the world and find out how they appeared.

Ukrainian Christmas and web

In most countries, one kind of spider or web will become a good reason to panic and run out of the house screaming in horror. But this does not apply to Ukraine, where the multi-legged "monster" will only be welcome. Especially at Christmas! After all, spiders, according to Ukrainians, bring happiness and good luck. According to an ancient legend, it was these creatures who helped save the Christmas of a certain poor widow with children. They decorated the pinecone that served as her Christmas tree with their silvery cobwebs and returned the atmosphere of the holiday to the house.

The legend, unequivocally, brought a couple of notes of Halloween horror to the Ukrainian version of the Christmas tale. Indeed, in memory of the miracle performed by spiders, the inhabitants of this country began to decorate the festive tree with artificial cobwebs.

New Year's chaos in South Africa

There are hundreds of ways to celebrate the New Year in an original way. You can, for example, watch the descent of the crystal ball in Times Square or set off giant fireworks. Have you heard that not so long ago, on the eve of this holiday, South Africans threw old furniture out of the windows of their own houses?

This tradition became widespread in one of the criminal districts of Johannesburg in the 90s of the XX century after the end of the apartheid era. However, it was not given to exist for a long time for objective reasons. A few years ago, a refrigerator flying from the upper floors caused serious injuries to an innocent pedestrian.

Police officers joined the fight against the dangerous tradition. To maintain law and order, they cruised the streets of the troubled area in armored vehicles. The police action met with some success. In 2013, not a single piece of furniture flew out of the windows of local houses, although an incredible number of fights took place on New Year's Eve, fireworks were launched everywhere, and a peaceful pedestrian could fall under a flurry of glass bottles.

There are strange traditions in Japan as well. And they concern the Christmas menu of its inhabitants. The Japanese do not want to see traditional dishes like turkey or goose on their festive table. They prefer trivial fried chicken from the KFC fast food chain to all culinary delights of the world.
