Genferon is a local and systemic immunomodulatory drug with antioxidant, immunomodulatory, local anesthetic and antiviral effects.

Release form and composition

Genferon is produced in the form of suppositories: cylindrical in shape with a pointed end, homogeneous structure, from white to white with a yellow tint, there may be a funnel-shaped recess or a hollow rod on the cut (5 pcs in a blister pack, in a carton pack 1 or 2 packs ).

  • Interferon human recombinant alpha-2 - 250 thousand, 500 thousand or 1 million IU;
  • Taurine - 10 mg;
  • Benzocaine - 55 mg.

Excipients: dextran 60000, tween-80, sodium citrate, polyethylene oxide 1500, citric acid, T2 emulsifier, solid fat, purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

The active component of Genferon is recombinant human interferon alfa-2b, synthesized by a strain of bacterium Escherichia coli, modified using genetic engineering methods to introduce the human interferon alfa-2b gene into it.

Taurine normalizes metabolic processes and provides tissue regeneration, and is also characterized by an immunomodulatory and membrane-stabilizing effect. The substance belongs to strong antioxidants, therefore it enters into direct reactions with reactive oxygen species, the excessive accumulation of which increases the risk of developing pathological processes. Taurine ensures the preservation of the biological activity of interferon and enhances the therapeutic effect of Genferon.

Benzocaine (anesthesin) refers to local anesthetics. It reduces the permeability of cell membranes for sodium ions, replaces calcium ions in receptors located on the inner surface of the membrane, blocks the transport of nerve impulses. This active component of Genferon prevents the occurrence of pain impulses in the endings of nerves that have sensitivity, and their transmission along the nerve fibers. Benzocaine has an exclusively local effect and does not enter the systemic circulation.

Pharmacokinetics

With rectal administration of Genferon, a high bioavailability of interferon is noted, exceeding 80%, which explains both local and pronounced systemic immunomodulatory effects. With intravaginal application, due to the high concentration of this component in the focus of infection and its fixation on the cells of the mucous membrane, a pronounced local antibacterial, antiproliferative and antiviral effect is observed. Since the vaginal mucosa has a low absorption capacity, the systemic effect of interferon is negligible.

The maximum level of interferon in the blood serum is recorded 5 hours after the administration of Genferon. Excretion of this substance from the body is mainly carried out by renal catabolism. The half-life is 12 hours, which is the reason for the frequency of use of the drug 2 times a day.

Indications for use

According to the instructions, Genferon is indicated for use as part of the complex treatment of such diseases / conditions:

  • Acute bronchitis;
  • Infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urogenital tract: chlamydia, genital herpes, ureaplasmosis, recurrent vaginal candidiasis, mycoplasmosis, gardnerellosis, papillomavirus infection, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, cervical erosion, vulvovaginitis, cervicitis, bartholinitis, adnexitis, prostatitis, urethritis, balanitis, balanoposthitis;
  • Chronic recurrent cystitis of bacterial etiology.

What is Genferon ® ?

Genferon ® is a unique drug obtained as a result of many years of research by Russian scientists at the Center for Engineering Immunology. It is a combination of recombinant human interferon alfa-2b, taurine and anesthesin, and is available as vaginal and rectal suppositories.

Genferon ® 500,000 IU, 1000,000 IU is produced by the Russian biotechnology company Biocad in accordance with international quality standards (GMP) and ISO 9001: 2000, which is a guarantee of effective and safe treatment.

Is it safe and appropriate to use Genferon ® with an elevated level of the CA-125 tumor marker in the blood?

If the content of the CA 125 oncomarker is slightly increased in inflammatory processes of the pelvic organs, including against the background of urogenital infections, treatment with Genferon ® is indicated for the purpose of immunomodulation and the achievement of antiviral and mediated antibacterial effects. It is recommended to use Genferon ® with caution during exacerbation of autoimmune diseases, which in rare cases can cause an increase in the content of CA 125. In any case, the decision to prescribe Genferon ® should be made by a doctor after a comprehensive examination of the patient. The fact of an elevated level of the CA 125 oncomarker cannot be a contraindication to the use of Genferon®, which is prescribed to correct immunological imbalances and prevent the development of infectious complications, which does not adversely affect the course of the underlying disease.

What diseases is Genferon ® used for?

Genferon ® 500000 IU and Genferon ® 1000 000 IU are used as part of the complex therapy of infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urogenital tract in adults: genital herpes, chlamydia, ureaplasmosis, mycoplasmosis, recurrent vaginal candidiasis, gardnerellosis, trichomoniasis, human papillomavirus infections, bacterial vaginosis, cervical erosion, cervicitis, vulvovaginitis, bartholinitis, adnexitis, prostatitis, urethritis, balanitis, balanoposthitis, as well as in the complex therapy of acute bronchitis in adults and in the complex therapy of chronic recurrent cystitis of bacterial etiology in adults.

How does Genferon ® work?

Genferon ® is a combination drug, the action of which is due to its constituent components. It has a local and systemic effect. Interferon alfa-2b has antiviral, antibacterial and immunomodulatory effects. Under the influence of interferon alpha-2b in the body, the activity of natural killers, T-helpers, phagocytes, as well as the intensity of differentiation of B-lymphocytes, increases. The activation of leukocytes contained in all layers of the mucous membrane ensures their active participation in the elimination of primary pathological foci and ensures the restoration of the production of secretory immunoglobulin A.

Interferon alpha-2b also directly inhibits the replication and transcription of viruses, chlamydia. Taurine, included in the composition of the suppository, increases the biological effect of IFN due to antioxidant and membrane-stabilizing properties, and also significantly accelerates the epithelization of damaged tissues due to a pronounced reparative effect. Benzocaine prevents the occurrence of pain impulses in the endings of sensory nerves, blocks their conduction along nerve fibers, thereby stopping the subjective manifestations of the disease (pain, itching, burning sensation, etc.), relieves the patient of suffering, which significantly improves the quality of life during treatment.

How to apply Genferon®?

In infectious and inflammatory diseases of the urogenital tract in women. 1 suppository (Genferon ® 500,000 IU or Genferon ® 1,000,000 IU, depending on the severity of the disease) vaginally or rectally (depending on the nature of the disease) 2 times a day, daily for 10 days. With protracted forms 3 times a week every other day, 1 suppository for 1-3 months.

In infectious and inflammatory diseases in men. Rectally, 1 suppository (Genferon ® 500,000 IU or Genferon ® 1,000,000 IU, depending on the severity of the disease) 2 times a day for 10 days.

What is the purpose of taurine in the preparation?

The amino acid taurine increases the biological effect of interferon due to its antioxidant properties and at the same time ensures the regeneration of damaged tissues. It has been established that interferon in combination with taurine shows a more pronounced antiviral activity than in combination with other antioxidants. It is for this purpose that taurine is included in the Genferon® preparation.

What are the possible side effects when using Genferon ® ?

The drug Genferon ® is well tolerated by patients. Allergic reactions are possible (sensation of itching and burning in the vagina). These phenomena are reversible and disappear within 72 hours after cessation of administration. Continuation of treatment with Genferon® is possible after consultation with a doctor.

What are the contraindications for the use of Genferon ® ?

Individual intolerance to interferon and other substances that are part of the drug Genferon ® 500,000 IU, 1000,000 IU.

I am interested in the drug Genferon ® , which was prescribed to my wife. It contains interferon alfa-2b human recombinant. What is this interferon made of? From blood or is it synthetic? This is important for us, because due to religious beliefs, we do not accept the use of blood products.

Interferon alfa-2b, which is part of Genferon ® 500000 suppositories, 1000000 IU, is recombinant. This means that it is obtained by genetic engineering from E. coli, a microorganism present in the intestines of any person. In the production of the antiviral drug Genferon®, E. coli bacteria are used, into which the human interferon gene has been introduced. Due to this, bacteria become able to produce human protein in large quantities.

After repeated purification, interferon obtained from a culture of bacterial cells becomes completely free from any impurities of bacterial origin. Recombinant interferon is completely identical to natural, but blood products are not used at any stage of its production.

Please tell me, does Genferon ® (500,000 IU) affect the effect of contraceptives? I have been using Nuvaring for a long time. And accordingly, is it possible to have a normal sexual life while using Genferon ®, or should you abstain for this time, or maybe there are special recommendations? (The doctor prescribed treatment for ureaplasmosis 2 times a day in the morning and evening for 10 days).

Antiviral drug Genferon ® 500,000 IU, 1000,000 IU. does not contain substances that reduce the effectiveness of contraception when using Nuvaring. However, it should be remembered that in the treatment of any urogenital infection, you should use a condom until laboratory confirmation of the cure of you and your sexual partner.

As a rule, this analysis is carried out 4 weeks after the start of treatment. Otherwise, re-infection is possible. In addition, gynecologists recommend refraining from sexual intercourse during the entire course of treatment with topical antiviral drugs, including when using vaginal suppositories.

Does Genferon ® affect spermatogenesis? If so, how (does it increase the activity of spermatozoa, does it increase their concentration)?

No, interferon preparations do not directly affect spermatogenesis. However, if spermatogenesis is impaired due to a chronic infection (most often herpetic or chlamydial) or develops against the background of prostatitis, the use of Genferon® gives a good clinical effect.

Does Genferon ® affect the parameters of prostate secretion?

Normalization of these indicators occurs if their violation was due to an infectious process, the elimination of which occurs much more successfully when using the drug Genferon ® . If it is, say, some kind of hereditary defect, there will be no effect.

Please tell me, is Genferon ® effective in exacerbation of chronic pyelonephritis together with antibiotic therapy? If so, is rectal or vaginal administration of suppositories better and in what dosage, for how many days?

Yes, according to clinical studies, the use of the drug Genferon ® 500,000, 1000,000 IU can increase the effectiveness of the treatment of pyelonephritis. Rectal administration is advisable for a systemic immunomodulatory effect.

The drug is used according to the standard scheme - Genferon ® 1000000 IU 2 times a day for 10 days; further, a prolonged scheme for the use of the drug Genferon®, when after these 10 days the drug is prescribed once every 2 days at night for 20 days.

I was prescribed by a doctor for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis in the Genferon® complex at 500,000 IU 2 times a day. But by mistake, I bought 1,000,000 IU. If I use a large dose, how negatively can this affect my body? Or can you just put half a candle?

The use of the drug Genferon ® in the dosage indicated in the instructions for medical use does not pose a health hazard - in order to have the potential for the development of side effects, the dose of interferon must be many times higher. Separating the candle is strictly not recommended, as accurate dosing is not guaranteed.

Menstruation does not require discontinuation of the drug Genferon ® . In the case of heavy discharge during menstruation, you can temporarily switch from vaginal to rectal administration of Genferon ® suppositories (these suppositories are universal, both vaginal and rectal use is possible, while the local effect is more pronounced with vaginal, and systemic with rectal).

Is it safe and appropriate to use Genferon ® with an elevated level of the CA-125 tumor marker in the blood?

Since an elevated level of the CA 125 tumor marker can be detected not only in ovarian cancer (most often), but also in a number of inflammatory diseases, mainly of the upper urogenital tract, endometriosis, benign gynecological tumors, some autoimmune processes, hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, pancreatitis, pericarditis , as well as in the physiological conditions of the female body - menstruation and pregnancy, it is quite difficult to unambiguously answer your question in the absence of specific data. If we are talking about a malignant neoplasm, then interferon-alpha preparations have a proven inhibitory effect on tumor growth, having antiproliferative, immunomodulatory and antimutagenic effects, and are quite widely used in the treatment of malignant tumors. However, the doses of interferonalfa used to achieve a tangible antitumor effect in these drugs significantly exceed those in the drug Genferon ® .

If the content of the CA 125 oncomarker is slightly increased in inflammatory processes of the pelvic organs, including against the background of urogenital infections, treatment with Genferon ® is indicated for the purpose of immunomodulation and the achievement of antiviral and mediated antibacterial effects. It is recommended to use Genferon® with caution during exacerbation of autoimmune diseases, which in rare cases can cause an increase in the content of CA 125. In any case, the decision to prescribe Genferon® should be made by a doctor after a comprehensive examination of the patient. The fact of an elevated level of the CA 125 oncomarker cannot be a contraindication to the use of Genferon®, which is prescribed to correct immunological imbalances and prevent the development of infectious complications, which does not adversely affect the course of the underlying disease.

Should the base for the candle completely melt (there have been cases when the candle came out almost in its original form)?

When using suppositories, it is very important to follow the established rules and shelf life of medicines. Physico-chemical properties of preparations Genferon ® and Genferon ® light provide the dissolution of Genferon ® suppositories at a temperature of 37 degrees Celsius and above within 5-10 minutes. The insolubility of Genferon ® suppositories may be due to the expiration date or improper storage, namely, non-compliance with temperature conditions (storage at too high or low temperatures). It is necessary to store suppositories in the refrigerator at a temperature of +2 to +8 degrees. Hypothetically, this situation is also possible if the suppository is inserted shallowly into the vagina (for example, in the vestibule).

Patients can be advised to follow the following technique: insert Genferon ® suppositories in the supine position, deep into the vagina, try not to change body position for 5 minutes after injection. Avoid heavy physical exertion (heavy lifting) within an hour after the administration of the drug.

Is it possible to prescribe Genferon® in case of acute inflammation of the prostate gland or only in case of a chronic, not exacerbated process?

The effectiveness of the antiviral drug Genferon® has been proven precisely in chronic prostatitis. However, in view of the fact that chronic prostatitis is often the outcome of an acute process, in some cases it may be appropriate to use immunocorrection as a component of a combination therapy for acute prostatitis in order to reduce the risk of a chronic process, but it all depends on the specific clinical situation.

It is very inconvenient that after application it is necessary to lie down, as the candles melt.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to avoid partial leakage of the suppository after its insertion. However, mainly the suppository base flows out, while the main active substances are absorbed. In addition, suppositories, as a dosage form, have a large number of advantages: 1. Rapid entry of medicinal substances into the systemic circulation with rectal administration, as well as the absence of inactivation of substances by digestive juices (When taking peros, the passage through the liver is 100%, and with rectal absorption in phase I, 20% of the absorbed substance enters the liver) .2. Minimal risk of developing a flu-like syndrome, characteristic of injectable interferon preparations. 3. The absence of the problem of taste, smell of drugs, the possibility of prescribing drugs of various pharmacological groups with a variety of physical and chemical properties. 4. Simplicity and painlessness of administration and application of suppositories Genferon®. 5. The possibility of topical application allows you to create an adequate concentration of the drug in urogenital infections directly in the focus of inflammation, which increases the effectiveness of therapy.

Are allergic reactions to interferon possible?

IFNα, which is part of the Genferon ® preparation, is obtained by genetic engineering and has a high degree of purification from protein impurities (>95% purity), which minimizes the risk of sensitization. Data from preclinical studies indicate that Genferon® 500,000 IU, 1000,000 IU suppositories do not have sensitizing activity (Weigle index ≤ 1.0). It has been established that the drug does not have skin-sensitizing activity and local irritant action.

According to the results of clinical trials, including in pregnant women, the use of Genferon ® was not accompanied by the development of allergic reactions in any of the cases. The realization of an allergy is possible only in rare cases of individual intolerance to recombinant human interferon-α-2b or other substances that make up the suppository.

Is it possible to use antibiotics and Genferon ® simultaneously?

Genferon ® 500 000 IU, 1000 000 IU does not enter into undesirable interactions with antibacterial drugs, on the contrary, due to the indirect antibacterial effect as part of the complex therapy of urogenital infections, it demonstrates synergism with antibiotics. According to the results of numerous clinical trials, Genferon ® as part of the complex therapy of infectious and inflammatory diseases does not cause the development of side effects. In particular, a high degree of frequency of complete elimination of the infectious agent is consistent with the literature data on the increase in the sensitivity of pathogens to antibiotic therapy under the influence of interferon, which contributes to an increase in the effectiveness of combination therapy.

Is it possible to drink alcohol while using suppositories Genferon ® ?

The ability of ethanol to have a direct myelosuppressive effect on bone marrow hematopoiesis is widely known, which can lead to the development of cytopenic syndrome (leuko-, thrombocytopenia, anemia) and significantly aggravate the course of the infectious process. In addition, ethanol stimulates the processes of free-radical lipid oxidation and enhances the lability of cell membranes, which leads to an increase in endotoxicosis and the formation of multiple organ dysfunction. It has been established that an increased content of ethanol in the blood aggravates the severity of the course of the disease and is accompanied by an increase in the level of adrenocorticotropic hormone, aldosterone, cortisol, interleukin-1β and the helper subpopulation of T-lymphocytes.

Although special studies of the interaction of the drug Genferon® and ethanol have not been conducted, we strongly recommend that you refrain from drinking alcohol during interferon therapy with Genferon®. Moreover, Genferon® is almost always used in complex therapy in parallel with the use of antibacterial and / or direct antiviral agents, the effectiveness of which, in turn, may decrease when taken together with alcohol.

The drug belongs to the category of immunomodulators and at the same time has an antibacterial effect. The use of the drug is justified in the presence of various inflammatory pathologies caused by a number of pathogenic bacteria. Often, Genferon suppositories are used to treat the organs of the genitourinary tract (for thrush, cystitis, prostatitis, genital herpes), while not only the symptoms of the disease are eliminated, but also the cause of inflammation.

Genferon candles - instructions for use

The drug is an immunomodulatory complex of substances that has an antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory effect. As a rule, Genferon is used to treat diseases of the genitourinary system in men and women. The antiviral effect of the drug extends to a significant group of pathogenic microorganisms - bacteria, viruses, fungi, etc. The immunomodulatory effect of suppositories is manifested due to the activation of immune defense links that ensure the destruction of long-lived bacteria that provoke chronic inflammation.

The components of the drug provide systemic and local action, activating certain elements of the immune system that act in the blood and on the mucous membranes. With rectal administration, a systemic effect is achieved, which makes it possible to treat bacterial, viral diseases of the respiratory system with Genferon or to prevent many other pathologies by activating immune cells and generally strengthening the protective properties of the body.

Compound

The main component of the drug is human interferon alpha 2B, in the preparation it can be in a dosage of 250, 500 thousand or 1,000,000 IU. Other active substances in the composition of the drug are:

  • aminosulfonic acid (0.01 g);
  • benzocaine or anestezin (0.055 g).

Since the active ingredients need a special environment for the fastest penetration into the circulatory system and fixation on the mucous membrane of the vagina or rectum, the basis of the drug is solid fat. All active substances and other auxiliary components are evenly distributed in it, which include:

  • emulsifier T2;
  • dextran 60 thousand;
  • sodium hydrocitrate;
  • macrogol 1500;
  • lemon acid;
  • purified water;
  • polysorbate 80.

Release form

The medication is presented as suppositories for rectal or vaginal use. The shape of the suppositories resembles a white cylinder with a sharp end. The internal structure of the candles is homogeneous, an air rod or a small depression in the form of a funnel is visible in the section. The drug is available in packs of 10 or 5 suppositories, depending on the dose of interferon, it is divided into 3 types:

  • Genferon 250000;
  • Genferon 500000;
  • Genferon 1000000.

Pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics

The introduction of suppositories into the rectum ensures close contact of the mucosa with the drug, due to which the active components of rectal suppositories are absorbed into the bloodstream by 80%. The maximum concentration of interferon and other active substances in the blood is observed 5 hours after the use of Genferon. Good absorption of the drug provides both local and systemic therapeutic effects.

With the vaginal use of suppositories, the maximum local therapeutic effect is achieved, which is due to the accumulation of most of the drug in the foci of infection. The mucous membrane of the vagina cannot provide high absorption, therefore, in this case, the penetration of the active substances of Genferon into the blood is minimal. The drug undergoes breakdown into metabolites, after which it is removed in the urine within 12 hours.

Candles Genferon - indications for use

The systemic immunomodulatory drug has a wide spectrum of action: it has found application in the complex therapy of various infections of the genitourinary system in women and men. In addition, Genferon is used as an independent drug, and as part of complex treatment with other medicines and methods. Candles with interferon are indicated for the treatment of HPV and for such diseases:

  • vaginal candidiasis;
  • herpes viruses;
  • chlamydia;
  • mycoplasmosis;
  • candidiasis of the vulva;
  • ureaplasmosis;
  • adnexitis;
  • viral hepatitis;
  • trichomoniasis;
  • erosion of the cervix;
  • bartholinite;
  • vaginosis;
  • cervicitis;
  • gardnerellosis;
  • urethritis;
  • inflammation of the prostate gland;
  • other sexual infections and urogenital diseases.

Contraindications

It is forbidden to use suppositories in case of an allergic reaction or sensitivity to certain components of the medication. In addition, conditional contraindications to the drug, which you should definitely tell your doctor about, are:

  • autoimmune pathologies;
  • early pregnancy (first trimester);
  • children's age (up to 7 years);
  • allergy in the acute stage.

Method of application and dosage

Candles with recombinant interferon are administered vaginally or rectally, depending on the specifics of the disease and the gender of the patient. Genferon completely dissolves, in contact with the mucous membrane of the rectum or vagina, without causing discomfort. With vaginal administration, a more pronounced local effect is achieved, with rectal administration, a systemic effect is provided. The latter type of drug can even be prescribed for the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections or other infectious pathologies of different localization.

Vaginal suppositories Genferon

In gynecology and inflammatory pathologies, until the age of 7 years, the drug is prescribed at a dosage of 125,000 IU. For adults and children over the age of seven, vaginal suppositories are prescribed in an individual dosage, depending on the severity of the disease, its clinical manifestations. For bacterial infections in the urogenital tract, doctors recommend suppositories with a dosage of 250-500 thousand IU once a day. The duration of therapy, as a rule, does not exceed 10 days.

If Genferon is used as a local anesthetic and anti-inflammatory agent for the treatment of cervical erosion or another disease, then in gynecology it is prescribed in the following scheme: 1 suppository of 500 thousand IU at night vaginally and 1,000,000 IU rectally. In a chronic disease, a three-month therapy is prescribed, which involves the introduction of suppositories into the vagina 3 times a week.

Rectal administration

Candles with this use case allow the active substance to enter immediately into the intestines, and then into the blood. Genferon is administered rectally for the most effective treatment of inflammation of various localizations and for the treatment of male genital infections. In the case of protracted infectious processes in women, the drug is administered rectally, 1 suppository every second day for 1-3 months. For the treatment of men, suppositories are prescribed rectally at a dosage of 500 thousand or 1 million IU, while the use pattern remains the same.

Pediatricians prescribe Genferon Light to children, the instruction of which implies the following treatment regimen:

  • with viral infections - 2 suppositories rectally with an interval of 12 hours (therapy lasts 5 days, then a break for 5 days follows and the treatment is repeated);
  • in case of viral chronic infections, Genferon is administered rectally to the child at night every other day (the course is 1-3 months).

Side effects

According to reviews, negative effects on the background of the use of the drug rarely develop. As a rule, they manifest themselves as allergic reactions and are expressed by a burning sensation or itching in the rectum, vagina. Such side effects disappear on their own a few days after the drug is discontinued. If you experience such manifestations, doctors advise reducing the dosage. It is extremely rare for patients who have been prescribed candle treatment to experience such negative effects:

  • chills;
  • headache;
  • myalgia (muscle pain);
  • increased sweat secretion;
  • loss of appetite;
  • joint pain;
  • fatigue;
  • decrease in the number of leukocytes.

Overdose

Cases of an overabundance of the active substances of Genferon in the body and the occurrence of negative consequences associated with this have not been registered to date.

special instructions

The drug has mostly good reviews, which are due to the high efficiency of Genferon. This remedy is often used by people who have been suffering from chronic diseases of the reproductive or urinary systems for a long time. Candles do not affect the nervous system, so during therapy a person can do any work, including those associated with increased concentration.

During pregnancy

The medicine is safe during gestation from 13 to 40 weeks, as well as for lactating women (with the optimal dosage being 250,000 IU). The decision to treat pregnant women with the drug should be made taking into account the expected benefits and possible risks. If the doctor saw the need to use suppositories during lactation, it is better to temporarily transfer the child to artificial nutrition. Treatment with Genferon for women in the early stages of pregnancy (up to 12 weeks) is highly undesirable, since there are no objective data on the effect of the drug on the fetus.

In childhood

Candles are used as an antiviral agent for the treatment of acute respiratory viral infections and inflammation of the genitourinary system. However, the drug for children should be used with caution and only in cases where the expected benefit outweighs the risks. Therapy of the pathology of the genital organs and urinary system in children involves a 10-day course of rectal administration, 1 suppository 2 times a day. At the same time, the use of Genferon must be combined with the intake of a vitamin complex that contains vitamins C and A.

Interaction with antibiotics

The combination of Genferon with drugs that have antibacterial activity, or antiseptics, leads to an increase in the effectiveness of the treatment of infectious and inflammatory pathologies of the genitourinary system. With an increase in temperature after the use of suppositories, a single dose of paracetamol at a dose of 500-1000 mg is recommended.

Alcohol compatibility

The instructions for the medication do not contain information about the consequences of the simultaneous use of Genferon with alcohol. However, since the drug is often prescribed as part of complex therapy, it is worth focusing on the compatibility of other drugs with ethanol. Doctors do not advise combining alcohol with suppositories, since in this case the load on the liver increases (immunomodulators activate metabolism and the removal of decay products from the body, which burdens the organ, and alcohol will add extra work to the liver).

drug interaction

Simultaneous administration of suppositories with vitamins C and E accelerates the action of the active components of the drug. As part of complex treatment, the drug is prescribed with other antimicrobial agents or antibiotics. Genferon goes well with Terzhinan vaginal suppositories containing nystatin and the antibacterial substance neomycin sulfate. This set of drugs is used in gynecology for the treatment of cystitis, thrush, and other pathologies of the genitourinary tract. They combine Genferon with Hexicon to quickly eliminate various infections and in order to increase immunity.

Terms of sale and storage

The medicine is recommended to be stored in the refrigerator at a temperature not lower than 2 degrees and not higher than 8 degrees. Suppositories should be kept away from children. The shelf life of the drug is no more than 2 years from the date of issue.

Analogues

In a pharmacy, you can easily find an analogue of Genferon, which will have a similar composition and have a similar effect, but can vary greatly in price. Recombinant interferon contains such drugs:

  • Kipferon (composition completely similar to Genferon);

pharmachologic effect

Genferon has an immunomodulatory, antiproliferative, antibacterial, antiviral, local anesthetic, regenerating effect.

The combined effect of the drug is due to the components in its composition, which have a local and systemic effect.

Genferon contains human recombinant interferon alfa-2b. It is synthesized by a genetically modified strain of the microorganism Escherichia coli.

Interferon alfa-2b is an immunomodulator and also has antiproliferative, antiviral and antibacterial effects. These effects are caused by the stimulating effect of the drug on intracellular enzymes that inhibit the reproduction of the virus.

Interferon enhances cellular immunity by activating a number of markers of killer cells, accelerating the division of B-lymphocytes and their synthesis of antibodies, increasing the activity of the monocyte-macrophage system and increasing the recognition of infected and tumor cells.

Taurine normalizes metabolic processes in tissues, promotes their regeneration, interacts with oxygen free radicals, neutralizing them and protecting tissues from damage. Interferon is less prone to decay and retains its effect longer due to the presence of taurine.

Benzocaine (anesthesin) is a local anesthetic. It changes the permeability of the cytoplasm of neurons for sodium and calcium ions, as a result of which not only the conduction of nerve impulses along the axons is blocked, but also the very process of occurrence of nerve impulses is inhibited. Benzocaine has only a local effect and is not absorbed into the systemic circulation.
