  • When installing the ceiling of a Turkish hammam, it is necessary to build an exhaust duct in it, because the air intake comes from there.

  • Mount the horizontal part of the duct with a slope from the bath. The slope is 2°/linear meter.

17. Move on to the cement floor. It should have a slope of 7° to ensure water flow.

18. Install sewers. Provide it with a water seal so that the smell does not enter the steam room. Make a rough screed and fill it with a leveling mixture. After it is completely dry, apply bituminous mastic on a clean surface.

19. Make a waterproofing layer from rolled coatings. To do this, overlap the rolls by 100–150 mm. It is more expedient to put 2 - 3 layers.

20. Lay the underfloor heating or water heating system, cover the floor with a finishing screed. The floor is ready for facing work.

21. Waterproofing. Due to the presence of 100% humidity in the steam room, waterproofing must be done on all surfaces of the room. After preparing the walls and ceiling, a plaster waterproofing mixture is applied.

22. Install underfloor heating or water heating systems on wall surfaces, shelves and massage table.

23. It is advisable at this moment to make the wiring of the remaining communications: electrical wiring, steam and water pipes. Power supply is made by thermal and moisture resistant cables.

It is advisable to use waterproof LED lamps as light sources. The wiring of the remaining communications is carried out using metal-plastic pipes.

24. Mount the kurna. This is a special container in the form of a bowl for infusing herbs and soapy massage solutions. Additionally, the kurna is an element of oriental decor. Usually it is made by professionals, and you just have to do the installation, which is easy to do by yourself.

25. A massage table is set up near the kurna. It is made of brick and tiled.

Since all surfaces in the hammam, except for the ceiling, are heated, the choice of coolant is of great importance.

When installing water heating, you need a boiler that can maintain a constant temperature of the coolant and perform a separate circuit for the bath so as not to heat the house in the summer if you want to take a steam bath. Water heating pipes are embedded in a screed, the thickness of which is 20–30 mm more than the diameter of the pipe.

Electric underfloor heating has two subsystems:

This type of heating is easier to perform than water heating, and the thickness of the screed will be much less. The choice of coolant is often associated with the power of electrical networks: they may not withstand the additional load.

The simplest system is a film underfloor heating, which does not require a screed and is laid in a layer of tile adhesive when facing. The maximum temperature of the surface heated by the film system does not exceed 45 °C, which makes infrared heating safe and especially suitable for a hammam. The energy consumption of the film system is lower than that of cable heating, only the cost of such a floor stops.

Calculation of the need for material, necessary tools

The calculation of the need for materials can be performed by focusing on a specific hammam project, since it directly depends on the area and volume of the premises. For the construction of a steam room with a plan size of 1.99x2.2 meters and a height of 2.5 meters inside a lived-in residential building with film heating of surfaces, materials will be needed:

We impregnate the surfaces of walls and ceilings with a water-repellent solution.

Draft floor

We carry out a draft floor: we lay LSU sheets 14 mm thick along the logs in two layers. In the absence of lags and floor insulation, we level the base soil, fill it with sand or fine gravel, and ram. We carry out support posts with a size of 250x250 mm, the height depends on the height of the basement of the house, from solid brick with a grate of 1x1 meter. We lay logs with attached cranial bars, we perform the first black floor from a moisture-resistant material. We mount a moisture-windproof membrane; we lay the insulation (according to the calculation); we cover the insulation with a foil vapor barrier, attaching it to the logs and insulation with a construction stapler.

We mount the rough floor of the hammam from LSU sheets in 2 layers, with a gap between the seams, we bring out the sewer pipe. We carry out a slope to the ladder from a cement-sand mortar with a thickness of 10 - 25 mm (5%).

Installation of equipment

We mount the steam generator in the technical room, connect it to the water supply system, supply power from the mains, and bring the steam supply pipes into the steam room.

We mount the power supply system for heating surfaces, install a regulator and a temperature sensor.

Benches and sunbed

We make a frame from 50x5 corners for benches, fasten the frame to the walls and floor with expansion dowels with thermally insulated heads to avoid cold bridges. We carry out the connection of the steam outlet pipes to the outlet of the steam generator and the steam supply nozzles, which are located under the seats.

We sew sunbeds, a bench and a massage table with sheets of glass-magnesite on self-tapping screws, while mounting the steam outlets under the seats of the benches.

Please note: LSU sheets have different surfaces - one is smooth, with acrylic finish, the second is rough. To increase adhesion with subsequent layers, we sew with a rough surface up.

Ceiling

The arched vault, made in a circle, is mounted in place. To install it, support guides from a 50x5 corner or glass-magnesite sheets in several layers are pre-attached to the wall.

vapor barrier

We mount a vapor barrier layer on all surfaces: walls, deck chairs, benches, ceiling. We fasten the vapor barrier sheets with a special vapor barrier tape, with an overlap of 10 cm.

Heating system

On top of the vapor barrier on all surfaces, except for the ceiling, heating elements are fixed, connected to the electrical cable.

We attach a temperature sensor and a thermostat to the heating system, we power the entire system from the power supply.

Waterproofing

A layer of waterproofing plaster is applied to all surfaces, then a primer layer to increase adhesion.

Finish lining

Sheets of mosaic tiles are attached to a layer of heat-resistant glue.

It happened and it always happens that the Turkish bath is built in the basement floors of the cottages. And the basement floors always suffer from their height of the room. And then, when we came here, this person did not have enough room height to build a hammam.


Since we have already told you that the ceilings in the hamams are always curved and a certain height of the hamams must always be present. But she wasn't here. The man so much wanted to have a hammam in his zhoma that he went for the following - he opened the concrete cushion with jackhammers on which the whole building stood. It was in this place where we built the hamam that the floor was deepened by 80 cm. That is, here all the concrete was raised and we saw the ground, went down 80 cm and then only then did the necessary height of the room appear. Of course, we again made a concrete cushion, but the height of the room was already there. And after that, it became possible to make a Turkish bath here, which, in my opinion, turned out to be interesting.

This bath is interesting because in order to get into it you need to go down, that is, it is located below and we go down from that floor level three steps down, it is more interesting when you enter this bath. And the bathhouse is still the same - a domed ceiling, special panels are used with which such ceilings are built, a bisazza mosaic with which the eastern niches of this room are trimmed, and the same Bidasar brown - Indian marble, which we often meet with you at our facilities. But we meet for the reason that everyone likes him. That is why we see him here again. He is really handsome.

Features of designing a hammam

When architects plan residential cottages, very often the height of the basement floors and the height of the ceilings are not taken into account. And then, when something else is planned in them besides a hamam, everything passes, so we were there now, the normal height of the room, digestible, but for a hamam it is small. And then, when the building is designed, work begins in it and the customer decides to build a hammam, right at this moment, when everything is already laid, when the zero level is over and we go out and we can already build a hammam, it turns out that the height of the basement is not enough.

Construction of hammams

This is where all the suffering begins and it turns out that with such a height of the ceilings it is impossible to build a hammam. We have to refuse a person in this construction. If you think about it in advance, meet with customers, with people who want to build a hammam, with architects, then, of course, at the design stage, you need to lay it down. And then everything is much simpler, in an organic way, all heights are met. In fact, there are no problems, no problems have been done, for sure, in the basement of this building it was necessary to make the ceiling height 40 cm higher. There were no problems, it's just that no one thought that they would want a hamam, but when they wanted to, then problems arose. Of course it's good when it's provided.

There are hamams that we built, these are hamams and even a separate topic for conversation, these are hamams in apartments. And the hamam about which I remember is the hamam in the attic, that is, it is a two-story apartment. How many forms of hammams we have not completed, with which we have not come across, any irregular forms, it is incredible that at first glance you look and it seems to you that it is impossible to build a hammam here. And just that hamam, which I am talking about now, was exactly that incredibly uncomfortable and irregular shape, nowhere worse. But it worked out, only at first it seemed that it was impossible to build there, but then you start thinking and as soon as you start thinking, then something starts to take shape. He is a very interesting hamam.

What size should be the room under the hammam

When a customer calls and says, you know, I have such a room. He is never guided by what size this room should be. And it should not just be done as it will, but should be dictated by very specific factors. The size of the room is dictated by the following factor.
