How to transport a cat on a long-distance train. Rules for transporting cats on a train in Russia Russian Railways: what documents and vaccinations are needed for long-distance travel. Transportation of large dogs on trains

Yes, and yes again. In addition, it is very convenient and simple. However, everywhere there are pitfalls, and in this case it all depends on the carrier. Far from all carriages and even not all trains are allowed to transport pets. So, we take note of the main rule!

Before choosing a route and buying a ticket, be sure to check whether it is allowed to transport animals on a particular train and in a particular carriage. The conditions for transporting pets differ depending on the carrier. Therefore, first read the conditions in detail and only then purchase a ticket.

Secret number 1 "How to transport a cat on a train"

On January 10, 2017, Russian Railways OJSC published on its website amazing news for those who are going to travel with their cat (cat) by train, namely, this company has canceled the presentation of veterinary documents. That is, now you do not need any passports and certificates (when transporting cats in Russia)! Conductors have the right to inspect animals upon boarding and decide whether your pet is dangerous or safe for transportation and the health of other passengers. In short, if your cat looks healthy, then he has a 100% chance of going on a trip with you, subject to all the other suppressions established by Russian Railways.

Secret #2

You should definitely consult with your doctor about what soothing drops you can give your cat if he starts to panic or tantrum right on the train. For especially nervous people, doctors give a calming injection before the trip. You may also be advised to make an immuno-boosting injection, but if this is some special case. This secret should not be neglected like this ... not all passengers with whom you will travel with delight and enthusiasm will react to the cries or purring of your pet.

Secret #3

You will have to pay for your Murzik as for "luggage". At the same time, you should be given a receipt with a note that "luggage is on hand." If your kitty is going to take a separate seat, then you will have to pay for it. However, there are such types of wagons where there is no fee for transporting cats at all (more details can be found on the official website of Russian Railways).

Is a shipping container required?

A cat can only be transported in a special, durable transport container (for example, MPS carriers are very popular). It is not recommended to take the cat out of the container during the entire journey. The sum of the three dimensions of the carrier must not exceed 180 cm. The container with the pet is installed in place of hand luggage.

IMPORTANT!

So, if you decide to travel with a cat by train, then you first need to:

  • Not earlier than three months before departure, give the cat a deworming drug and keep the sticker that is contained in the medicinal package along with the drug (the veterinarian will then stick it in the animal's passport). If you lose the sticker, then you may have to do laboratory tests for helminthiasis.
  • Get vaccinated at least one month before departure (they are valid for a year).

Rules for transporting a cat in a particular train and carriage

Transportation of cats on long-distance trains is allowed in some compartments of a rigid carriage. Transportation of cats is prohibited in cars with 2-seater compartments (CB) and luxury cars. Long-distance trains are subdivided into Sapsan, Strizh, Lastochka, Lastochka-premium, Allegro.

On some trains you can carry a large cat, and on some only a small one. Dimensions are determined in a very interesting way - they do not depend on the weight or height of the cat, but on the size of the cage in which it is placed. In some wagons, it is possible to transport an animal in a cage, the size of which in the sum of three dimensions is no more than 180 cm, and in other wagons - in a carrier no more than 120 cm.

The sum of three dimensions is the length, height and width, which, when added together, are no more than 120 or 180 cm. For example, 120 cm is a cage, 40 long, 40 wide and 40 cm high. Or 180 cm is a carrier, 70 long, wide 70 and 40 cm high. And so on ...

That is, before you buy a ticket, you need to measure the cage in which you plan to carry the cat, just in case, weigh the animal along with the carrier. And then you need to call the Russian Railways hotline and find out in which specific cars and on which specific trains you are allowed to travel with your animal, and whether there are free places for people with animals on the desired date in principle.

If you buy a ticket directly at the box office, then upon presentation of a certificate for a cat, all travel documents will be issued to you immediately - both for you and for the animal.

Rules for transporting pets by train (Ukraine)

According to the Rules of the Ministry of Infrastructure of Ukraine No. 1196 of December 27, 2006, transportation of pets by rail in Ukraine is carried out according to the following rules:

An appropriate veterinary certificate is required for the transportation of any animals (form No. BET, 1 BET (CIS)).

The veterinary certificate is issued by the state institution of veterinary medicine on the basis of the animal's veterinary passport. The certificate contains information about the well-being of the area where the animal is taken from, the transfer of infectious diseases, the presence of vaccinations and other marks for each animal, as well as the type of transportation, route and purpose of transportation.

A certificate for the transportation of an animal in Ukraine is issued for 5 days, for the transportation of an animal abroad - 3 nights. If you are going to bring the animal back from abroad, the certificate will need to be taken again at the local veterinary clinic. The same rules for Ukraine, that is, if the animal is transported back after more than 5 days, the certificate will not be valid and a new one will have to be taken.

Attention! In accordance with Art. 107 “Violation of animal quarantine rules and other veterinary and sanitary requirements” of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, it is prohibited to transport animals without appropriate veterinary documents. Transportation of any animals in CB cars is prohibited.

The passenger who transports animals is obliged to take care of them himself: to feed, water and clean up after them, to prevent violations of sanitary and hygienic conditions.

Cats are transported in special boxes, baskets or cages. One passenger can carry only one cat. Transportation of cats in railway passenger transport is possible only upon presentation of a veterinary certificate.

Documents for transporting a cat:

  1. Veterinary passport + vaccinations- This document can be obtained at any veterinary clinic. The passport is issued on the basis of vaccinations by age and the most important - against rabies. Vaccination marks are pasted into the vet. passport indicating the date they were produced. The passport, as a rule, is of international standard. To transport a cat on a train, a rabies vaccination must be done at least 30 days before the trip, but no more than a year. The cost of a passport is UAH 50, vaccines - from UAH 150.
  2. Certificate of Form No. 1- a document confirming that your animal is healthy and gives the right to transport it. You can get this certificate if you have a veterinary passport in the state veterinary clinic. In Kyiv, you can contact the clinic at st. Volynskaya, 12.
    The cost is 126 UAH. Issued in 15 minutes. The name of the owner, data about the animal (breed, age, “healthy” and “no deviations” mark) are entered in the document, the date of vaccination against rabies, the destination to which the animal is transported and the type of transport are indicated.
  3. Baggage check- according to the rules of Ukrzaliznytsia, an animal is considered hand luggage (weight up to 20 kg). You can buy a luggage receipt or a train ticket for a cat at any ticket office at the railway station if you have (form No. 1, your passport) your train ticket. The travel of the cat is paid as additional baggage. The baggage receipt indicates your ticket number, direction, number of animals, the category "animals" with the note "luggage on the passenger's hands." One person can carry one animal. The cost is 9 UAH. 70 kop. It is issued at any ticket office, at least one hour before the train departure. No one asked us for documents for a cat, they only specified which animal we were transporting. When boarding the train, they ask you to show documents for a cat, but they only look at the luggage receipt.
  4. Ukrzaliznytsya has certain rules for transporting a cat on a train. The first is the availability of documents, the second is a special container for transporting a cat. These can be cages or special carrying bags.

Having decided to go on a long journey with his furry companion, the owner must know what is needed to transport a cat on a train in addition to official documents.

For comfortable and safe transportation of a pet on long-distance trains, you will need the following things:

  • Carrying. For transportation over a long distance, a special carrying bag or cage is indispensable. The best option for travel would be a container cage with a lattice door. The dimensions of such a box should be optimal. In a small carrier, the cat will be uncomfortable and stuffy, and in a spacious one, the animal will rush about with fear. Cloth bags are not suitable for a long trip, especially in summer. In them, the cat is stuffy, and heat stroke can occur.
  • Harness. If the animal is used to walking on a harness, then on a long journey it can come in handy. The presence of a harness will allow you to safely remove the cat from the carrier or cage, without fear that the pet will run around the car in a panic.
  • A small tray or special absorbent wipes for hygiene on the train.
  • Food, bottled water, food bowl. Animals rarely eat when they are under stress. The owner may limit himself to a small amount of dry food. But the animal must have water.
  • Express first aid kit. It should put cotton pads, disinfectant, activated charcoal, herbal soothing drops.

A change of scenery, a shaking carriage, the lack of a stable surface underfoot, noise from a moving train, a huge number of new smells contribute to the development of a stressful state even in the most hardy pets. In this regard, pet owners often ask veterinarians how to transport a cat on a train and reduce the stress load on the animal. To reduce the excitement and anxiety of the animal, you can give herbal sedatives, for example, “Cat-Bayun”, “Fitex”, etc. These drops can be taken with you in the first aid kit.

Stronger sedatives should only be used after consultation with a veterinarian. Most often, to relieve anxiety during the transportation of animals, "Vetranquil" is used. The drug can only be prescribed by a veterinarian, independent use can be fatal. You can teach your pet to travel in advance. To do this, you can come a couple of times a week with a cat in a carrier to the railway station. Brave animals can even be walked on a harness along the platform. 3-4 such training outings with a pet are enough, and the animal will get used to the sound of a moving train, and the trip in the car will be more relaxed.

conclusions

So, let's sum up. Your main actions if you plan to transport a cat by train to the Russian Federation:

  • Orientation with the flight.
  • Call the Russian Railways information desk (or the carrier) and clarify whether pets can be transported on this flight and in which carriage. Learn more about conditions.
  • Issue a receipt for the transport of a pet. You can do this in parallel with the purchase of a ticket for yourself or after, presenting your ticket when issuing a receipt.
  • Purchase a durable cat carrier.

I encountered the need to transport my cat Mars when moving. There was a trip on a long-distance train (RZD) lasting 25 hours (departure in the morning and arrival the next morning).

Some acquaintances suggested that I give the cat to good hands so as not to mess with it, but I categorically refused such recommendations, since I consider it a betrayal in relation to the animal to give it to strangers (not even strangers). Honestly, I don’t understand people who can get rid of their pet so easily because of some inconvenience.

In this article, I will share my practical recommendations for transporting cats on a train in Russia by Russian Railways and my impressions of the first trip with a cat on a train.

Required documents and vaccinations

So, before you go on a trip, you need to collect a small but mandatory list of documents for the cat, as well as make the necessary vaccinations. You need to start preparing for the trip at least a month before the expected date of the trip.

List of documents for transporting a cat on a Russian Railways train in 2017

Required documents:

  • animal passport (can be purchased at a veterinary clinic, veterinary pharmacy or pet store);
  • certificate in form No. 1;
  • railway ticket.
This is how Form 1 looks like
Completed veterinary certificate with the seal of the clinic
Reverse side of the certificate, also stamped

Vaccinations

Mandatory vaccination is vaccination against rabies, as well as deworming before the vaccination procedure.

Many pet owners think that it is also necessary to give the cat a vaccine against three diseases (panleukopenia, calicivirus and rhinotracheitis). However, it is not. In the absence of this vaccination, you will also be allowed to travel with an animal. Russian Railways, therefore, take care of people's health and oblige to prevent those animal diseases that can be transmitted to people.

Marks in the veterinary passport about vaccinations against rabies

This fact, of course, alerted me, because if there are animals sick with panleukopenia in the car, they can infect my cat as well. Therefore, I strongly recommend for the health of your pet to still get the above-mentioned vaccination (and in general, I recommend doing this vaccination every year throughout the life of your pet, thereby insuring it from dangerous diseases). I usually immunize with the Dutch Nobivac Tricat vaccine (the procedure can be done both in a veterinary clinic and by myself).

The rules described below are relevant for the transportation of small pets (cats, rodents, small dogs, birds). As described above, the ticket is purchased at the box office of Russian Railways, just like tickets for people.

The ticket for a pet looks like this:

That is, it is essentially a transportation document for luggage. The animal is checked in as additional excess baggage.

The general rules for transporting an animal on long-distance trains of Russian Railways are as follows:

  • Animals can be transported in a reserved seat car for animals (on trains, as a rule, there is one such car) or in a compartment, as well as in a SV. Previously, the carriage of animals in reserved seat cars was prohibited. However, if you decide to choose a reserved seat car, check the availability of such a car for transporting an animal on a train following your direction. Since in my case such a reserved seat car was available only on branded trains, while when buying a ticket in a compartment, you could choose any train.
  • No more than two small animals can be issued per ticket. That is, for example, if 2 people are traveling, then in total they can take no more than 4 small animals with them.
  • The pet must be in a carrier (there are no strict rules for the bag, as in the case of air travel), the pet owner must have the necessary veterinary documents.
  • Fares for transportation are calculated based on the distance travelled. The table of tariffs depending on the distance is given on the Russian Railways website.
  • Animals and birds, the carriage of which may endanger the life and health of passengers and employees of the carrier, are not allowed for transportation.

Transportation cost calculation

I will give the calculations on my example:

  • deworming - 80 rubles (I indicate the cost of a pack of "Prazicide");
  • vaccination against rabies - 0 rubles; if paid - about 200 rubles;
  • triple vaccine Nobivac - I did it myself, I bought a vaccine in a veterinary pharmacy for 300 rubles; if you make a paid one in a veterinary clinic - about 600-800 rubles;
  • certificate in form No. 1 - 320 rubles;
  • ticket for a cat - 663 rubles in my case (travel distance 1700-1900 km);
  • sedative for a cat - 100 rubles;
  • diapers for an animal - 50 rubles;
  • carrying bag - 0 rubles, bought many years ago; the average price in the store is 600-1000 rubles. My bag cost me 700 rubles and was bought 4 years ago, so I don’t include it in my calculation.

In total, in my case, I spent 1513 rubles on everything about everything. If we take into account only a certificate and tickets, then 983 rubles will come out, which is quite economical.

Carry bag

I will dwell in more detail on the carrying bag. You can purchase both hard carrying (plastic or metal) and soft. I have a soft fabric with a rigid frame.

At the bottom, I recommend laying a diaper for animals (sold in pet stores) in case the animal goes to the toilet right in the bag (which is most often excluded). Also, a litter will not hurt if the cat has a plastic carrier. The animal will be more comfortable on a soft diaper or blanket.

Absorbent bedding for pets
Mars traveled in such a soft carry

Food and drink during the trip

It is unlikely that your cat will want to eat or drink during the trip, as transport is a stressful event for the animal.

I took some with me and 2 sausages for cats as a treat. The cat ate the delicacy, and then in several approaches, but did not touch the food.

It's the same with drinking. You can completely refuse water, since nothing will happen to the animal in a day, and an extra trip to the toilet in the conditions of the car will be uncomfortable.

Sedatives for cats during transport

If your cat has never traveled by train, and also never went outside (that is, only housing is practiced), it is likely that she will experience considerable stress from such drastic changes.

My cat is an apartment cat, I don’t let him out on the street. But a month before leaving, I started going to the park with him 2-3 times a week, so that he would get used to it a little. She carried it in a bag, sometimes let it out, carried it in her arms or drove it on a harness for a very short time. Mars did not really like these walks, but when moving, there was little trouble from him.

Sedative for cats - Stop stress drops

The use of sedatives during transportation is not prohibited. I bought the cat the drug "Stop-stress" in drops. According to the instructions, they should be given 4 days before departure, but I decided that the drug would be enough for him only on a trip. I gave it 3 times per day according to the instructions, the drug worked. The cat became calmer for a while, while there were no side effects and no strong sedation.

Toilet

I took the cat tray with me on the train, but it was not useful. Mars never went to the toilet, although I planted him several times. Obviously, stress has affected, cats endure in such cases. My friend also moved with a cat about a year ago, her cat also did not eat, drink or go to the toilet during the trip.

The condition of the cat after transportation

After the move, the animal, of course, continues to experience stress. This happens not only because of the transportation itself, but also because the animal finds itself in a completely new place for it, in a new apartment.

Basically, the following is observed in the behavior of the animal:

  • refusal to eat for several days (1-3 days);
  • refusal to go to the toilet (up to a day after moving);
  • the animal does not make contact with the owner, hides under the sofa or in another secluded place.

After 2-3 days, this condition passes and the cat begins to behave as usual. Mars, a week later, had already completely settled in - his appetite returned, he began to go to the tray and behave like the owner of the house.

How my cat survived the trip - animal behavior

And finally, my review of traveling with a cat.

I thought that everything would turn out to be more complicated, because my cat is home, practically does not know the street, except for rare trips to the veterinary clinic and infrequent walks in the park in a carrying bag.

In fact, Mars behaved quite decently. From time to time he meowed loudly, complained, especially at the very beginning of the journey, but then he fell silent and simply lay in the carrier, periodically breathing with his mouth open (an indicator of stress). You can and even need to take the animal out of the bag, because it is difficult to spend the whole day in a lying or semi-lying position. By evening, the cat had already become a little bolder and even walked around the train a little under my supervision, striving to jump on the shelves.

Mars endured transportation

Our neighbors in the car were understanding, so there was no negative from the passengers. Yes, and my cat did not deliver any inconvenience. I think more than half of the passengers did not even guess that an animal was being transported in the car. By the way, I was the only one in the animal car with living creatures, although I expected to see a dozen pets there.

Small difficulties were at night. Mars was nervous and did not want to sleep in the bag. I couldn’t take it out of the bag for safety reasons, because the cat would start jumping on the shelves, disturbing the peace of the passengers or would hide somewhere out of fear.

So I slept with him on the top bunk, opening the bag slightly and covering it with the duvet cover along with the cat. From time to time he woke up and meowed, complained, but in general, the night passed quietly. Mars sometimes looked out the window with interest. None of the passengers at night complained about us.

Conclusion: in general, transporting a cat by train to another city is quite realistic and not so difficult, and also inexpensive. Of course, the characters of animals are different, and such an undertaking will seem more troublesome to someone, especially if longer journeys are expected.

Many people face the need to transport an animal: someone gets a job in another city, someone goes on a long business trip - but you never know for what reason you have to change your place of residence for a long time. It is clear that one does not raise a hand to throw a beloved cat into the trash, and it is rare to give an adult animal “in good hands”. So you have to urgently make inquiries about how to transport a cat on a train (and possibly on an airplane). The same question is asked by those who take their pet to an exhibition in another city for the first time.

Point one: veterinary examination

Preparing for a trip with a pet is a lengthy business and even more difficult than packing for a trip with a small child, so it’s better to start it at least a month before the planned trip. Since it is legally psychologically easier to transport a cat on a train than hiding it under a bench, first of all take care of an examination by a veterinarian. If you are seen in a private clinic, ask if it is licensed to issue the relevant documents. But it’s easier and cheaper to go to a state veterinary clinic or to a sanitary station (animal disease control department). Rabies is vaccinated free of charge, and transporting a cat on a train requires such vaccination. You may need to take additional tests if your doctor sees your animal for the first time. If you have a veterinary passport, the vaccination mark is made on a special page; if you don't have a passport, take a certificate of vaccination.

Point two: obligatory certificate and travel document

Suppose you have already learned how to transport a cat on a train, now you need to get permission from a veterinarian. Such a certificate is valid for only three days, so you need to take it before the departure. It will indicate which animal is being transported, their number (one permit can be issued for several cats), the age of the animal and quarantine marks. Without this certificate, even if you have other permits and travel documents, you will not be allowed into the car - the rules for transporting cats on a train prohibit this. The travel of your animal must be paid. How much a ticket for a cat on a train costs - depends on its weight along with the container (if you follow the rules clearly). But most often they pay for 20 kg of luggage. For example, taking a cat from St. Petersburg to Minsk costs only 112 rubles.

Point three: mode of transportation

There is nothing to do with an animal in your arms on the train. Be sure to have a cage or carrying bag. Usually cat owners have some kind of basket in which they carry cats to the same clinic. However, if the journey is long, it is better to evaluate whether the basket is suitable for travel. It is easy to carry an animal two blocks, while transporting a cat on a train is much more difficult: stress and fear can move it to smash a not-so-safe shelter. It is better to buy a container with a side iron door and a reliable latch, not too small so that the cat is not cramped, and not too large so that he does not start rushing about inside with a fright. Cloth carrier bags are not very suitable for a long journey: they are stuffy, the walls can be torn by an exhausted animal, and it will certainly not be difficult for him to break the zipper.

What to take with you

If you travel far, transporting cats on the train is complicated by the need to feed them. You will have to take food, bowls, a tray and wet wipes with you. Water (necessarily boiled) is needed, even if the trip is less than a day - the cat will definitely want to drink. A good solution would be an absorbent diaper (which is placed on non-walking patients) or an oilcloth bought at a pet store. You need to lay it under the grate in the carrier. Take a harness with you: you can walk the cat along the platform if the train stops at the station for a long time. And if she needs to go to the toilet, it is better to control the process so that she does not hide in fear in a hard-to-reach place or start running around the car.

Which wagon is right for you?

The rules for transporting cats on a train clearly regulate where they can be taken with them and where they cannot. So, soft cars (increased comfort, no more than two people in a compartment) and SV will not suit you categorically. Similarly, you will not be allowed into the children's carriage - however, when purchasing tickets, this issue should be regulated by railway workers. They also have to make sure that you do not come across a place in the car where a lot of children just go. The basket with the cat must be located in the place of luggage; he, in fact, is considered luggage. However, no one has the right to forbid you to place a cage on your shelf or buy another place where a cat in a basket or on a leash will feel calmer than under the seat or on the third shelf.

If the train has a baggage car

Some trains have a special carriage for transporting luggage. You can take your cat to this car. To do this, it is enough to present a document for the transportation of an animal. True, you will have to come to the train 60-70 minutes before departure: closer to “hour X”, they stop accepting goods. To get your pet back, you will be given a baggage receipt; its loss is not a catastrophe - the cage with the cat will be returned to you according to your passport. However, this method of transportation has certain disadvantages. First of all, you can load the cat only at the end stations, at the intermediate stations the train does not take long for this. But the main "ambush": your pet will be extremely uncomfortable there. In a strange environment, without the opportunity to warm up, without the proximity of a loved one, the stress in an animal grows like an avalanche. Moreover, no one will feed him, let him out “on the potty” and put him in the basket if, for example, the cat vomits. So it’s better to take on the hassle of transporting a pet than to put him in a helpless position.

Preparing the animal for the road

You have learned all the information on how to transport a cat on a train, now you need to prepare your pet for the trip. To do this, you have to break her diet. Six hours before the start of the journey, you need to stop feeding her. It doesn't hurt to talk to the veterinarian about taking a sedative to the animal - this will make him less aggressive and help to endure the trip more calmly. Perhaps the veterinarian will recommend a vaccination designed to strengthen the immune system, which in any case will suffer from stress and forced starvation. So that the cat does not start to get nervous even at the stage of “stuffing” into the carrier, leave it for a week in an accessible place for him. Curiosity will push the animal to study a new subject. The basket will be sniffed and examined; maybe the cat will even take it as a habit to sleep in it. At least peace of mind at the beginning of the journey (at least before the train) is guaranteed to you.

Possible problems

Rarely transporting cats on a train goes smoothly. Difficulties begin with the conductor. It is possible to extort money due to an alleged violation of the rules of transportation; however, in the presence of all the listed documents, it is unnecessary to pay the "stewardess". However, the conductor can be understood: he is afraid of dirt, noise and problems with other passengers. He can be reassured at least about the mess - they say, if anything, you will clean up after the cat yourself. The following problems may arise if you come across scandalous fellow travelers. Here you just have to calmly explain that the animal has received all the permits, is not sick, and its transportation has been paid. To reduce the intensity of passions, try to calm the cat so as not to annoy the neighbors with its plaintive cries. In general, the trip will be a test for both you and your pet, at least for the first time. In the future, if the moves (for example, to exhibitions) are frequent, the cat will get used to them and will react much calmer.

There are situations when you need to take a pet with you on the road. Moving to another city, a long business trip or a long-awaited vacation - all this can be a reason not to part with your favorite fluffy. To avoid annoying misunderstandings on the road, you should prepare in advance for the trip, especially if you have to travel by train.

Before the trip, the cat must undergo a complete examination.

If a firm decision was made to take a fluffy pet with you on a long-distance train trip, then it is important to prepare in advance for the upcoming event.

You need to know that at best it will take at least a month to complete all the necessary documents. During this period of time, the animal will need get vaccinated and undergo a complete examination. Only after following these procedures will it be possible to obtain permission from the veterinary service to transport a cat.

Vaccinations

Vaccinating an animal is an important part of preparing for a trip.

It will not be superfluous to consult with a veterinarian what other vaccinations, albeit optional, your pet may need.

Double vaccination

It is not uncommon for an animal not to have been vaccinated for more than one year. In this case, a double vaccination with an interval of twenty days will be required.

Naturally, the preparation for the upcoming trip increases in time.

But if the owner of the animal closely followed the timely conduct of all mandatory vaccinations, then it will take a little more than one month to prepare the cat for the trip, otherwise this period will stretch to two months.

Veterinary passport

The veterinary passport is a mandatory travel document.

This is a mandatory document, without which no transport company will allow the animal to travel.

After the pet has been examined and vaccinated, an appropriate mark is made in the veterinary passport: the number and series of the vaccine, as well as the date it was carried out. The signature of the veterinarian and the seal of the veterinary clinic are required.

If for some reason the animal does not have a veterinary passport, then for the trip you can use the certificate of examination and vaccination of the cat, which is issued by the veterinary service. In this case, the owner's data is entered in a special ledger.

Veterinary certificate

The certificate must be issued three days before the intended trip.

Not earlier than 3 days before the intended trip, the owner of the cat should visit the state veterinary clinic with his pet.

After a thorough examination of the cat and verification of the authenticity of his veterinary passport, a veterinary certificate is issued in form No. 1. It is this certificate, together with the cat's veterinary passport, that is sufficient reason to obtain permission to transport it on trains.

This white paper contains the following information:

  1. Kind of animal.
  2. The number of animals, since one certificate can be issued for the simultaneous transportation of several cats.
  3. Pet's age.
  4. Data on the vaccinations carried out, as well as the necessary quarantine marks.

Important point: veterinary certificate in form No. 1 is valid only for three days ! Therefore, it is very important to plan your visit to the appropriate institution in advance, taking into account all the allowable dates.

Changes in the transportation of cats on a train in Russia from January 2017

Traveling with a cat is possible only in rigid compartment cars.

However, such difficulties with the registration of a pet were valid until January 2017.

According to the updated rules for transporting pets on Russian Railways, conductors no longer have the right to require a veterinary certificate from the owner of a cat.

But, as practice shows, it is best to insure yourself against possible misunderstandings and waste of nerves associated with bureaucracy, and provide your pet with a complete set of veterinary documents.

Buying a separate seat

All documents must be shown to the conductor when boarding the carriage.

It should be borne in mind that taking your beloved cat on the road, you will need to purchase a separate ticket for him, designed for carrying hand luggage.

That is a pet in this case will be considered as luggage whose weight does not exceed twenty kilograms. The cost of such a ticket will depend primarily on the distance and current fares. When buying a ticket at the box office, the owner of the animal will be required to have a veterinary certificate with a date of issue no more than three days before the date of departure. It will also need to be provided to the conductor when boarding the car.

An important point: you can only travel with a pet in rigid compartment cars. That is, even with all the desire and ability to take a cat with you in a compartment of a SV-car (double compartment) or a luxury car, it will not work.

How to transport a cat and a cat on a train?

The animal should be transported in a special container.

According to the established rules, you can take a cat with you in a compartment only on the condition that it will be in a special cage or container with a secure lock for the entire duration of the train.

The best option would be a plastic container with a lattice door.

But it should only be taken into account that in trains a cat can be transported to container no larger than 180 cm when adding three dimensions. This means that when adding the height, width and length of the cage, you should get a value not exceeding 180 cm. For example, a carrier with a length of 70 cm, a width of 70 cm and a height of 40 cm (70 + 70 + 40 \u003d 180) would be a suitable option.

Before buying a ticket

Before buying a ticket for a pet, you should make accurate measurements of its container, and just in case, weigh it along with the animal. As mentioned above, the weight of the "luggage" should not exceed 20 kg.

But it is best to play it safe and, by calling the RJ hotline, ask about the nuances of transporting a pet.

What else do you need to transport a cat on a train

Among other things, you should take a harness with you on the road, special absorbent sanitary napkins, bottled water, food in small bags, as well as a first aid kit, which must contain cotton pads, an antiseptic, soothing drops on herbs and.

Sometimes life situations develop in such a way that you have to take your pet, a cat, with you on a long trip. How to transport a cat on a train so that this troublesome event does not cause problems for the owner, those around him and the animal itself? You should not worry too much, this is quite doable, and subject to all the rules, a long journey will not be traumatic for the psyche of all its participants.

Transportation rules

The railway regulates the transportation of small pets. The law allows them to be transported on long-distance trains in cars of various types. But at the ticket office, tickets will not be sold to passengers with a cat in their arms for SV carriages and seats of increased comfort.

The rules of travel provide for the transportation of animals in baskets or containers, and they are checked out as hand luggage. Such a ticket is paid as for 20 kg of luggage. It can also be issued immediately before the departure of the train, but it is better to do this when you buy a ticket for yourself. Then you don't have to arrive at the station in advance and carry a heavy container with you, and disturb an already excited animal. In the certificate of hand luggage, it is better to immediately indicate that the luggage is on hand, and the cat is in the container.

And, of course, there must be certificate in form No. 1. You have to write it out the day before you leave. This required document is valid for only 3 days, and if it is overdue, then according to the rules provided by the railway, the animal will be denied. It indicates the epidemiological situation in the area, the name of the owner, the age and gender of the cat, its color. The doctor will indicate all types of vaccinations made and note that the cat has passed. It is advisable to take such a certificate at a state veterinary institution, then no one will have any extra questions.

Which carrier to choose

For transporting animals in stores, the choice of carriers is quite extensive: there are baskets, comfortable cloth bags and plastic, more massive containers. What is preferable?

The basket should be deleted immediately: unfamiliar sounds and smells excite the animal, and very soon the cat will get tired of sitting still, and it will easily get out of it.

The fabric carrier is compact, lightweight, takes up less space, and is cheaper. But still, it must be abandoned. Firstly, when closed, it is poorly ventilated, and it is simply unbearable to stay in it for a long time. Secondly, if the cat behaves restlessly, it can damage the fabric base with its claws. Yes, and a loosely closed zipper opens easily. Therefore, a container is most preferable for transporting a cat.

The transport company is concerned about the safety of its customers and requires that the container be made of high-quality material, closed on all sides, strong reliable locks were present on the doors, this ensures that the animal does not accidentally get out of it. Ventilation openings must provide adequate oxygen supply. But do not allow the cat to stick out its head and paws, get enough hair, and feces get out.

When choosing a temporary home and thinking about the convenience of a pet on the road, care must be taken so that the cat can settle down in it comfortably. The carrying container should not be very cramped, but it is not advisable to buy too spacious. It would also be useful to purchase absorbent wipes at a pet store, and if there was no time to look there, then they would be suitable, bought at a regular pharmacy. This is in case an “accident” happens on the road and the cat does not wait for the planned trip to the toilet, it is possible that she may vomit.

Where to put the carrier

Usually a container with animals is placed on a shelf designed for luggage. But if the owner wants to put it on his shelf, then no one will prevent him. If funds are available, it is permissible to pay for a separate seat, and keep the carrier on it.

It is also allowed to leave a container with a cat in the baggage car, but given that the owner will meet the pet only at the end of the journey, not everyone will decide on this. It is better to endure some difficulties together than to sit and imagine the horrors that the unfortunate creature will have to endure alone.

What to take care of in advance?

It is advisable to start preparing for a voyage with an unusual passenger in advance. It is necessary to raise the documents on the vaccination of the animal, and if the rabies vaccination was done about 11 months ago, then it's time to vaccinate the cat again. Another nuance is important here: 30 days must pass from the day of the last vaccination, otherwise they will not be allowed on the train with him.

When going on a trip with an animal, one must try to foresee every little thing, otherwise it will turn out that it is exactly what is missing at the right time, and on the way it is important that all the necessary items are at hand.

On a long journey you need to take with you bowls for food and drink, fit stable and small.

Naturally, food, water, definitely boiled. And if the road is short, less than 20 hours, then you don’t need to feed the cat, nothing bad will happen, let it starve a little. But it is imperative to water her, at least a little, especially when the air temperature is elevated. Wet wipes will not be superfluous either.

A tray with a filler is an indispensable attribute of a long trip, because a cat must cope with natural needs. You also need to take paper towels or a rag with you. They certainly need to cover the tray when it becomes necessary to get rid of its contents.

Rubber gloves will not interfere, so as not to get your hands dirty, you never know what can happen on the road.

Even at home, you need to put on a pet, and be sure to grab it with a reliable carbine. Picking up an animal without it is not recommended, it is scared, and seeks freedom by any means, it can even scratch the owner, break out and run away. At long stops, the leash will give you the opportunity to stretch a little, walk on the grass, and take care of your natural needs.

How to prepare an animal

The heart-rending cries of a cat trying to break out of confinement are unlikely to be pleasant to fellow travelers, and can unbalance anyone. Therefore, it would be useful to consult a veterinarian about a sedative for your pet. This is especially necessary for nervous and excitable animals.

When a cat is susceptible to various diseases, and stress and the road can harm his already poor health, the doctor may recommend an immunostimulating injection.

It's great if the container is purchased in advance. This will allow the animal to get used to the new thing. Cats are curious and love to explore unfamiliar objects. The future traveler sniffs it from all sides, will surely climb inside. Perhaps she will want to sleep in it, then she will endure the road easier, because her smell will remain there, and this will calm her down.

On the eve, it is undesirable to feed and water the pet abundantly, and 6 hours before the trip, you will have to completely exclude food intake.

Possible difficulties

Sometimes the guide begins to resent that the cats will be dirty and smelly. It is necessary to assure him that caring for the cat is the responsibility of its owner, and he will try to minimize possible troubles.

If you are unlucky, and places nearby are occupied by conflicting people, and the presence of a pet annoys them, they need to calmly explain that the cat has every right to be in this place, the law provides for the transportation of live luggage. You will have to show certificates and vaccinations, assure them that the animal is healthy and its travel is paid. And of course, we must try to make the cat bother others as little as possible.

Well, if you are lucky, and the fellow travelers turn out to be nice and kind people who love the animal world, then such a trip can even be a pleasure.
