Everyone is familiar with the term IQ» and the abbreviation IQ. Also, many people know that the IQ is estimated using special tests.

The founder of the development of special test programs, currently known as the "IQ Test", was the French psychologist Alfred Binet. The test very quickly gained popularity in different countries. It began to be used to determine the level of IQ not only in children, but also in military personnel. More than 2 million people have been tested. Later, the level of aikyu began to be determined by students and employees of private companies.

The IQ level allows you to determine the speed of thought processes, and not the ability of a person to think. In this regard, the use of tests today has lost its relevance.

To solve problems, you need a well-developed ability to concentrate, the ability to highlight the main thing, a developed memory, a large vocabulary and fluency in spoken language, logical thinking, the ability to manipulate objects, the ability to perform mathematical operations and perseverance. As you can see, these are more psychological characteristics of the personality than mental abilities.

What is an IQ test used for?

Currently, the test is the only way to determine the level of a person's intelligence.

There are two ways to define intelligence. The first is intended for children 10-12 years old, with the help of the second, the development of children from 12 years old and adults is assessed. They differ in the level of complexity, but the principle of use is the same.

Each test has different tasks. To earn 100-120 points, which make up the average IQ, you do not need to strive to complete all the tasks. Half of the proposed tasks are sufficient. You have 30 minutes to complete the task. The most reliable result for a person is 100-130 points.

Aikyu level of a normal person - what is considered good

The level of intelligence in the range of 100-120 points, which is half of the correctly completed tasks, is considered the norm. The person who completes all tasks receives 200 points.

Also, this test helps to determine a number of psychological characteristics: attention, thinking, memory. By identifying shortcomings in abilities, one can help in their development and increase the aikyu index.

What determines the level of IQ

Psychologists are trying to establish the dependence of the level of intelligence on heredity, physiological data, gender or race. Several lines of research are being developed.

In the 19th century, scientists conducted a series of experiments to establish the dependence of the level of intelligence on physiological data and gender. They showed no connection. Other scientists have repeatedly stated that intelligence directly depends on the race of a person. These studies also found no relationship.

A number of researchers associate mental abilities with musical tastes. Music affects the emotional sphere. British scientists have found that the IQ is higher in people who prefer classical music, hard rock and metal. The minimum level of IQ, in their opinion, is among hip-hop and R'N'B fans.

What needs to be done to increase the aikyu coefficient

Increasing your IQ quotient requires constant training and brain development. Logic tasks and intellectual games, chess, crossword puzzles and poker are considered one of the effective ways. They help improve memory and increase concentration. Exact sciences develop analytical thinking. Mental development is influenced by reading fiction and learning foreign languages.

How much IQ does a normal person have

The average level of intellectual development is 100-120 points. However, scientists have long proposed to determine the level of IQ, taking into account chronological age. The test does not show the degree of erudition of the individual, but evaluates general indicators. Tests are designed to distribute results with an average score. The test indicates the direction in which a person should develop. An IQ level of 90-120 is considered good. However, it should be remembered that the results of the initial testing will be the most correct, further the data will be distorted.

Human intelligence is very difficult to define, it is almost impossible to measure. The accumulation of knowledge, abilities and skills occurs throughout a person's life.

The basis of intelligence is made up of several determining factors, genetics, environment, environment are important. Scientists have established a direct dependence of mental development on genes. The percentage of influence can range from 40 to 80 percent.

The development of the brain affects the level of intelligence and the aikyu index. The more developed a person's frontal lobes, which are responsible for thought processes, the higher the level of IQ.

Scientists pay special attention to the development of children in the first years of life and upbringing. The level of mental development was associated with the birth order of children in the family. For a long time it was believed that the first-born had a higher level of aikyu. Compared to younger children. Recent studies have shown that the birth order of children determines the developmental potential, the ability to reason and think, and as a result determine the level of development of the intellect. On average, first-born babies are age-appropriate on tests, but score a few points more than younger siblings.

The development of mental abilities is influenced by the state of health. It is normal for a person to follow good habits and lead a healthy lifestyle. This allows you to keep your brain active. Scientists have proven that among people with a high level of intelligence, there are fewer patients with chronic diseases, their life expectancy is higher.

Aikyu scale level table by points

If the IQ test results are:

  • 1-24 - profound mental retardation;
  • 25-39 - severe mental retardation;
  • 40-54 - moderate mental retardation;
  • 55-69 - mild mental retardation;
  • 70-84 - borderline mental retardation;
  • 85-114 - medium;
  • 115-129 - above average;
  • 130-144 - moderately gifted;
  • 145-159 - gifted;
  • 160-179 - exceptionally gifted;
  • 180 and above - deeply gifted.

Criticism of IQ tests

Determining the level of intelligence according to the proposed tests cannot be taken as a basis, since average indicators are taken as units of measurement, which change over time, which means they are not a standard.
Human intelligence depends on many factors, ranging from the time of day to the state of health.

Gender cannot be taken as a basis: among men and women there are people with both high and low IQ levels.

Purpose: to study the level of mental development of children of primary school age.

The test consists of four tasks.

Task 1 - the study of the ability to distinguish essential features of objects and phenomena from non-essential ones, as well as an assessment of the stock of knowledge of the subject;
2 task - the study of the abilities of generalization and abstraction, as well as the allocation of essential features of objects and phenomena;
3 task - the study of the ability to establish logical connections and relationships between concepts;
Task 4 - identifying the ability to generalize.

Order of carrying out: Tasks are read aloud by the experimenter, the child reads at the same time to himself. It is best to conduct this test individually with the child. This makes it possible to find out the reasons for the child's mistakes and the course of his reasoning with the help of additional questions.

1) Instruction: "Choose one of the words enclosed in brackets that will correctly complete the sentence that has been started."

A) The boot has ... (lace, buckle, sole, straps, button).

Test results
1 task

If the answer to the first task is correct, the question is asked "why not a lace?" If the explanation is correct, the solution is estimated at 1 point, if it is incorrect - 0.5 points.
If the answer is wrong, the child is helped - he is invited to think and give another, correct answer (stimulating help). For the correct answer after the second attempt, 0.5 points are given. If the answer is incorrect again, the child's understanding of the word "always" is ascertained, which is important for solving 6 out of 10 tasks of the same subtest. When solving the subsequent tasks of the I subtest, clarifying questions are not asked.

2 task

If the answer to the first task is correct, the question is asked: "Why?" With a correct explanation, 1 point is put, with an erroneous one - 0.5 points. If the answer is erroneous, assistance is provided similar to that described above. For the correct answer after the second attempt, 0.5 points are given. When answering the 7th, 9th, 10th (g, i, j) tasks, additional questions are not asked, since children of primary school age cannot yet formulate the principle of generalization used to solve these tasks. When answering the 7th (g) task of the II subtest, an additional question is also not asked, since it has been empirically found that if the child solves this task correctly, then he knows such concepts as “first name” and “surname”.

3 task

For the correct answer - 1 point, for the answer after the second attempt - 0.5 points.

4 task

If the answer is wrong, you are asked to think again. The scores are similar to those above. When solving tasks 3 and 4, clarifying questions are not asked.

When processing the results of the study for each child, the sum of the points received for the performance of each subtest and the total score for the four subtests as a whole are calculated. The maximum number of points that a subject can score for solving all four subtests is 40 (100% success rate). In addition, it is advisable to separately calculate the overall total mark for completing tasks on the second attempt (after stimulating assistance).

Interpretation.

An increase in the number of correct answers after the experimenter invites the child to think more may indicate an insufficient level of voluntary attention, impulsiveness of answers. The total score for the second attempt is an additional indicator that is useful for deciding which of the groups of children with mental retardation the subject belongs to. The assessment of success (OS) of solving verbal subtests is determined by the formula:
OU = x. 100% / 40
where x is the sum of points received by the subject. Based on the analysis of the distribution of individual data (taking into account standard deviations), the following levels of success were determined for normally developing children and students with mental retardation:
4th level of success - 32 points or more (80-100% OS),
3rd level - 31.5-26 points (79.0-65%),
2nd level - 25.5-20 points (64.9-50%),
Level 1 - 19.5 and less (49.9% and below).

Recently, a variety of tests for determining the intelligence quotient or tests for IQ (IQ - intelligence quotient, read IQ) have become increasingly popular. They are held not only for entertainment. Some employers and educational institutions have included such tests in their admissions programs. What does it give and how to check your IQ (ikyu)?

WHAT IS INTELLIGENCE

The abbreviation IQ denotes a quantitative assessment of the intellectual abilities of the person being tested in relation to the level of mental development of an average person of this age.

This abbreviation was first used at the beginning of the last century in the Stanford-Bine scale.

What is intelligence? Translated from the Latin intellectus means understanding, perception, sensation. This is the quality of our psyche, which helps to adapt to new circumstances. Thanks to mental abilities, we can quickly adapt, learn new things and apply knowledge in practice. Mental abilities are divided into congenital and acquired.

Innate abilities play a big role in our lives. They are formed under the influence of genetics and begin to appear already in childhood. Primary intuition is not related to mental functions and does not depend on our skills. It is believed that it is formed on the basis of the architectonics of the cerebral cortex. Acquired abilities are what we will achieve throughout our lives.

Aikyu is affected by:

  • individual genes;
  • heredity;
  • external factors.

If everything is clear with the first two points, then the last point raises many questions.

Scientists have found that mental abilities can be influenced by: environment, nutrition, race, and even country of residence. Jews have the highest rate, followed by Asians, and then only people of the white race. Therefore, some are considered smarter simply by nature, because they were born "where it is necessary."

Nutrition is also a very important component of the full and comprehensive development of the individual. It has been proven that the lack of iodine in the body of a teenager reduces intelligence by almost 10 points, but breastfeeding helps to increase the indicator by 7 positions. True, disputes on this subject have not subsided so far, since every scientist has his own opinion.

But don't despair, there are exceptions to every rule.

Checking aikyu is easy, the main thing is to know how.

HOW TO KNOW YOUR IQU

You can test your mental abilities on your own or under the supervision of a psychologist. For this, various tests have long been developed that allow you to reveal the hidden resources of your mind, and show everyone what you are capable of. In any of them there are tasks of different complexity.

Usually they are arranged in ascending order, from easy to more difficult. Points are awarded for each answer. The maximum number is 180. Tests are divided by age, each category has its own scale of results.

The most common questionnaire is the Eysenck test. In addition, the methods of R. Amthauer, D. Wexler, R. Cattell and J. Raven are often used. They are more accurate. It is not necessary to select one option. To test your mental abilities, you can pass all the proposed tests. The average result will most objectively show your aikyu.

Tests can be found on the Internet and taken online. True, before starting the test, it is better to carefully read the conditions. Some resources offer to pass the test for free, but you will have to pay money to get the result. There are options without payment, you just need to search the network.

Unfortunately, all these developments will not show 100% reliable results. A lot during the passage depends on the erudition and outlook of the person being tested. Feeling unwell or tired can have a negative impact on the quality of the test, so taking the test twice, you can get completely different results.

What is this mysterious “IQ Test”?

All people are different. Therefore, it is not surprising when one person has a more developed level of intelligence in comparison with another. Each of us has a certain idea of our capabilities. But how exactly do you measure them? In this case, in most developed countries of the world, it is the IQ test, expressed in points, that comes to the rescue.

Translated from English, the abbreviation IQ means "intelligence quotient". This indicator is a quantitative assessment of the level of intelligence of an individual in comparison with the same indicator belonging to the average person of the same age as the subject. You can determine Aikyu by passing the tests presented above, which (as experts point out), although they do not assess the knowledge that an individual has, they determine his mental abilities. Our IQ tests are free chances to find out how developed your intelligence is!

The structure of each IQ test is a list of questions that are both simpler and more difficult. The subject is invited to cope with tasks related to determining the quality of spatial and logical thinking in humans. Variations of questions are very different. As practice shows, the higher the experience of passing these tests, the better the results. The Eysenck test has become the most famous among such tasks “on IQ”.

Scientists note that half of the people have an IQ in the range of 90-110 points, the rest are either below 90 or above 110 (about 25% each). According to American researchers, the average score for this test among university graduates is 105 points. For excellent students, it is 130-140. It is believed that work on improving mental abilities is necessary when the IQ is below 70.

In recent years, IQ tests have gained incredible popularity among the entire population of the planet. They are used everywhere: when applying to universities and colleges, in job interviews, when passing driver's license exams, and so on. Russia also did not stand aside. The population of our country is entirely interested in knowing the level of their own intelligence, which is why many residents try to learn as much as possible about tests to determine intellectual abilities and are not averse to passing them. A big plus of such tests for determining intelligence is their availability. If you search the Internet for IQ tests, you will certainly find free ones. Moreover, not all of them will be correctly compiled. The uniqueness of our site is that we give the opportunity not only to take a free IQ test, but to try to pass the test, which was compiled by an experienced specialist. So we have real IQ tests.

It is worth noting that the average IQ of the population of a given country depends on the efficiency of the state machine and the level of the gross domestic product. In addition, a study was conducted that found the relationship between the factor of social intelligence and the average results in the Unified State Examination (foreign analogue of the SAT).

IQ Tests: How They Are Built

There are other types of questions as well. As practice shows, the higher the experience of passing these tests, the better the results. The most famous among such tasks was the Eysenck test. Good accuracy is demonstrated by tests bearing the names of their creators: D. Wexler, J. Raven, R. Amthauer and R. B. Cattell. At the same time, to date, no one has yet introduced a single standard that existing IQ tests would adhere to.

All tests are divided into age groups in order to give an accurate assessment of the intellectual development of a person, corresponding to his years. In other words, the results of IQ tests can be the same - for example, a child of 11 and a master of mathematics. This is because they are equally developed for their age. If you take the Eysenck test, the creator developed it to determine the level of intelligence in people over 18 years old.

History of IQ and what influences it

Back in 1912, the German scientist Wilhelm Stern for the first time presented to the general public the concept of “intelligence quotient”, unusual at that time. In carrying out his research, he turned his attention to the shortcomings inherent in one of the indicators of the Binet scales, namely, mental age. To determine an accurate assessment of an individual's intelligence, Stern proposed dividing the mental age by the present age (also called chronological age), and taking the remainder of this operation.

The first appearance of the term IQ dates back to 1916, when it was used in the Stanford-Binet scale. But today (perhaps due to the greatly increased interest among the population in IQ indicators) there are several other scales, the validity of which has not been proven. Therefore, it is now quite difficult to compare the results shown by different tests. Therefore, psychologists often recommend referring to classical tests to determine the coefficient of intelligence development. These are the tests we have selected for you.

Causes affecting the IQ score

Naturally, one of the main reasons that have a serious impact on the level of IQ is heredity. The main emphasis in ongoing research on determining the relationship between these two indicators was placed on children. The results of these studies was a fairly strong spread in the testimony: some scientists stated that IQ depends on the available genes by less than half; while others even cited data reporting almost one hundred percent dependence. The rest of what could affect the results of IQ tests is the environment and setting, as well as all sorts of errors inherent in such measurements. That is, according to such studies, it turns out that the level of IQ largely depends on hereditary genes.

Another reason that affects IQ scores is individual genes (the brain activity of an ordinary person depends on about 17,000 genes). Research shows that individual genes affect an individual's existing IQ level, but in fact, such an effect does not have a strong effect. Such a dependence, revealed in the course of the ongoing research, turned out to be at the level of a statistical error.

At the moment, studies have begun to look for differences in the genome in people with high and low IQ levels. If someone manages to find out the genetic causes of "braininess", then perhaps there will be a tool that allows you to increase the level of IQ in a person. States with such knowledge will move ahead faster in terms of economic and technological development.

The third reason that can affect the level of IQ is the environment. Of course, everything that is around a person (especially the family) has an impact on his development. In the course of research, many factors of such dependence have been identified. They included family income, the size of the house and its price, the developing relationships between all family members, and so on. This dependence is characterized by a coefficient equal to 0.25-0.35. But as a person grows older, this influence gradually decreases until it reaches zero at about the age of majority (these studies concerned only a complete family with two parents and two children).

Improper nutrition can also tell on the level of development of IQ. Thus, recent studies have shown that eating fish products by a pregnant woman has a beneficial effect on the intellectual development of her unborn child.
Another study, involving about 13,000 people, determined that breastfeeding also has a positive effect on the infant's intelligence. True, it should be noted that immediately after the publication of this study, it was criticized. The reasons for the scientific "attack" were an incorrect analysis of the data obtained, a complete disregard for existing theories.

IQ Differences by Human Groups

According to most experts, on average, there is no significant difference in the level of intelligence development between men and women belonging to the same age group. But it is in the male population that the most striking variation in this indicator is observed: that is, there are a lot of men with a high level of intelligence and also a lot of those whose IQ is quite low. In addition, this indicator is expressed in women and men a little differently. This is especially noticeable after five years. Upon the onset of this age, boys begin to show superiority over the beautiful half of humanity in terms of spatial intelligence and manipulation. Girls show better verbal functions.
Leadership in the field of mathematical abilities also departs to men. One of the American researchers came to the conclusion that for every 13 men with excellent mathematical abilities, there is only one woman equal to them.

Racial differences

Numerous studies have been conducted to identify differences in the average level of IQ among residents of the United States of America led to the following conclusion: for the representatives of the African American population, this indicator was equal to 85 points, for Hispanics - 89, for the white race - 103, for the Asian - 106, and for the Jewish - 113.

At the same time, the average level of IQ, if we consider data from tests half a century ago, shows some changes. So, today, the IQ of the Negroid race in 1995 corresponds to the IQ of white people who lived in 1945. Therefore, it seems impossible to “blame” everything on the genetic characteristics of people.

It is not necessary to dismiss such an important factor as the influence of society on the development of intelligence. This is especially noticeable in orphans. For example, in the same USA, the IQ level of children whose upbringing was carried out by representatives of the white race is about 10% higher than that of those who lived in a black family. And in the UK, the difference is even more interesting: in boarding schools, black children have a higher IQ than their white peers.

In the course of research, scientists have discovered a pattern that lies in the existing difference in the average level of IQ between residents of different countries. According to certain data, this indicator is affected by the current size of the GDP, the practical use of democratic principles, the levels of crime and the birth rate of the population, the percentage ratio between believers and atheists. In countries belonging to the developing group, in addition to the above reasons, it also affects the average level of IQ and poor nutrition, coupled with numerous diseases. In this regard, we ask you to familiarize yourself with an interesting map ...

Relationship between health, age and IQ

A properly composed diet, especially in the early stages of human development, has a beneficial effect on the development of intellectual abilities. An example is the iodine deficiency factor in the body: in its presence, the average IQ score decreases by 12 points. Those who have a sufficiently high IQ live longer and get sick less often.

IQ acts as a measure of a person's intellectual abilities, which reach their maximum values at 26 years of age. Then they gradually decrease.

The IQ of an adult, to a greater extent than that of children, is determined by genetic heredity. In the latter, this indicator is influenced by the environment. Some children, due to certain life characteristics, are initially ahead of their peers in terms of intelligence, but over time their indicators level off.
School success

Representatives of the American Psychological Association noted that children whose results on IQ tests have high rates are much better at absorbing the material presented at school than those who received lower scores. Such a correlation reaches 0.5. Intelligence tests allow pre-selected naturally gifted children to teach them in a separate, accelerated program.

Income, frompropensity to crime and IQ

Part of the research on the impact of IQ on human performance shows that higher intelligence increases the productivity of an individual - and his income increases accordingly. Moreover, this indicator does not depend on the social environment of a person, including his family.

The American Psychological Association in one of its reports noted that the level of intelligence has little to do with a person's propensity to commit crimes. The correlation in this case is only 0.2. It is important to note here that causal relationships are indirect. That is, poor school performance is not always explained by a low level of IQ, but it often influences the possibility of a person becoming a criminal.

Arthur Jensen cites information according to which the largest percentage of crimes occurs in people with IQs ranging from 70 to 90 points.

Scientific achievements, etc.mining activity

According to some studies, it can be concluded that success in the scientific field of activity is more dependent on such character traits as purposefulness and innovative thinking. But Dr. Eysenck cites other data, according to which the level of intelligence of successful scientists is lower than that of their colleagues who received the Nobel Prize. The average IQ test scores were 166. At the same time, some scientists demonstrated the highest possible level, equal to 177 points. Spatial IQ was 137 points according to the scientist, although at a younger age it should have been higher. And the mathematical average IQ is 154.

Two scientists, Frank Schmidt and John Hunter, came to the conclusion that with an equal amount of experience, the person with the higher IQ will be more productive. According to the researchers, the development of intelligence has an impact on all types of human activity, but its level differs depending on the chosen field of activity. From this we can conclude that a job that involves long-term brain work will not be available to those who have a low IQ. And at the same time, activities associated with physical activity will not be seriously affected by the size of this coefficient.
