Almagel neo and difficulty swallowing. Varieties of almagel and the main differences between medicines. Belonging to ATX-classification

Coming to the pharmacy for Almagel, patients will definitely face the question of the pharmacist: which one is needed? The medical staff will briefly list the main differences between the drugs, but an uninformed person may experience a stupor from surprise.

So that the question of the pharmacist is not taken by surprise, we will tell you what varieties of Almagel exist, how they differ, what is their price and in which case each remedy will be most useful.

All forms of Almagel are effective for stomach problems

Tablets and syrups belong to the group of antacids. The basis of all types of liquid form is a suspension of aluminum and magnesium hydroxides. The composition of the tablet preparation includes magaldrate.

The action of any kind is aimed at the symptoms of dyspepsia:

  • sour belching;
  • heartburn;
  • pain in the epigastrium;
  • excessive gas formation;
  • bloating.

Additionally, drugs act on the condition of the mucous membrane of the esophagus and stomach:

  • cover the walls with a protective film;
  • reduce the enzymatic activity of gastric juice;
  • neutralize excess acid in the stomach;
  • reduce the inflammatory response;
  • accelerate the healing of erosive and ulcerative lesions;
  • minimize the risk of developing gastropathy after taking aggressive medications, such as analgesics, as well as hormones and foods.

All forms are used to treat pathologies of the digestive system, accompanied by normal or:

  • acute and chronic gastritis;
  • pancreatitis;
  • erosion and ulcers;
  • dyspeptic symptoms caused by a violation of the rules of a healthy diet or medication;
  • hiatal hernia;
  • (colitis, enterocolitis);
  • gastroduodenitis.

The suspension protects the gastric mucosa from the aggressive internal environment - hydrochloric acid and enzymes

It is also possible to use syrup and tablets for prophylactic purposes in conjunction with drugs that irritate the mucous membranes.

General contraindications for all varieties are:

  • hypophosphatemia;
  • individual hypersensitivity to components;
  • kidney disease, accompanied by severe violations of their functions;
  • hypermagnesemia.

Depending on the changes in the composition, the drugs have additional restrictions on the use.

Types of Almagel

There are 3 types of suspensions:

  1. No additives (in green packaging).
  2. With a carminative component (in an orange box with the additional word Neo).
  3. With anesthetic (in a yellow box with the addition of the letter A at the end of the name).

It is additionally produced in tablets, in this case the letter T is attached to the name.

Drug differences

The differences between the varieties are shown in the table:

Characteristic Almagel Almagel A Almagel Neo
Pack color Green Yellow Orange
The presence of an additive Missing Benzocaine Simethicone
Auxiliary action Missing Eliminates acute pain Reduces gas formation, treats flatulence and bloating
Additional contraindications First trimester of pregnancy, age up to 10 years, Alzheimer's disease Childhood, lactation and pregnancy children under 10 years old, Alzheimer's disease, pregnancy
Application rules 1 hour after eating or 15 minutes before taking medication 15 minutes before meals 1 hour after eating
Maximum course of treatment 20 days Week 1 4 weeks

Tablets differ in composition. Instead of algeldrate, they contain a complex of calcium, magnesium and aluminum salts. In terms of its pharmacological properties, it is not much different from a suspension in a green box. Presented in packs of 12 and 24 tablets.

The maximum duration of therapy with tablets is 2 weeks. The medicine is allowed to be taken on an empty stomach or before meals.

What tool to choose?

The choice of the drug is carried out taking into account the symptoms.

With gastritis

In the initial stage of inflammation, when there is a sharp pain in the epigastrium, a suspension with an anesthetic can be taken as an anesthetic. As the condition improves, it is replaced with the classical form taken by the therapeutic course.

If gastritis is accompanied by excessive gas formation and bloating, it is useful to replace simple Almagel with Neo syrup. It contains a carminative component and reduces the formation of gases.

For pain in the stomach

The most effective remedy is with benzocaine. The anesthetic contained in the syrup in a yellow package will quickly reduce pain.

Despite the absence of an anesthetic additive, the green composition will also cope with soreness in the stomach area.

Stomach pain is a dangerous sign that indicates problems.

For kids

According to the instructions for the preparations, they can be used in children's practice from the age of 10. For children who have not reached it, it is better to choose a safe alternative.

If the child is worried about dyspepsia (discomfort, pain, heartburn) or the doctor has diagnosed a disease of the digestive tract, which is mentioned in the instructions for use, then you can give a suspension in a green pack.

If the pain is unbearable, an anesthetic syrup will help. In this case, the use of the drug should be short-term, because it is a means of emergency care.

Attention! Pain does not need to be endured - it can signal serious surgical pathologies, so you cannot do without calling an ambulance or consulting a doctor.

With the accumulation of gases in the intestinal lumen, which accompanies gastric problems, the use of a suspension in an orange pack is optimal.

During pregnancy

According to the instructions for use, green Almagel can be taken during pregnancy and only in the 2nd and 3rd trimester.

From the beginning of the 2nd trimester of pregnancy, tablets can be used.

The remaining funds from the line are contraindicated for expectant mothers.

Note! Pregnant women should not drink drugs for a long time!

Which variety has the greatest analgesic effect

Almagel is an antacid agent, the main active ingredient of which is a combination of aluminum and magnesium hydroxides, which neutralizes hydrochloric acid in the stomach. In addition to the usual medicine, Almagel A and Neo are also produced, additionally containing other active ingredients: benzocaine and simethicone, respectively.

Almagel A has the greatest analgesic effect, since it contains a local anesthetic. It is the drug of choice for diseases of the digestive tract, accompanied by severe pain against the background of high acidity. The drug reduces the concentration of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, as well as the activity of the pepsin enzyme, has a protective, adsorbing and enveloping effect. The analgesic effect occurs within two minutes after administration, which allows you to quickly improve the patient's condition with severe pain.

The mechanism of action of the anesthetic benzocaine is to block the work of potassium-sodium channels. This prevents the generation and conduction of nerve impulses: the nerve endings stimulated by pain become unable to transmit a signal to the central nervous system from the area of action of the drug.

Indications for prescribing a variety of the drug with benzocaine are: acute gastritis, duodenitis, pancreatitis, enteritis, peptic ulcer, colitis, hernia of the esophagus, reflux esophagitis.

Almagel Neo is an antacid, adsorbent, carminative and enveloping drug.

Release form and composition

The drug is available in the form of a suspension for oral administration, which is a white or almost white homogeneous liquid with an orange smell (170 ml or 200 ml in dark glass or polyethylene terephthalate bottles with a screw-on plastic cap, in a cardboard box one bottle, a 5 ml measuring spoon and medical instructions for the preparation; 10 ml in multilayer foil sachets, in a carton pack of 10 or 20 sachets and instructions for using Almagel Neo).

Composition per 5/10 ml suspension (one measuring spoon / one sachet):

  • active ingredients: magnesium hydroxide (in the form of magnesium hydroxide paste) - 395/790 mg, algeldrate (in the form of aluminum hydroxide gel) - 340/680 mg, simethicone (in the form of an emulsion of simethicone) - 36/72 mg;
  • auxiliary components: sorbitol, citric acid monohydrate, propyl parahydroxybenzoate, hydrogen peroxide solution 30%, macrogol 4000, ethanol 96%, sodium saccharinate, propylene glycol, ethyl parahydroxybenzoate, hyethylose, orange flavor, purified water.

Pharmacological properties

Pharmacodynamics

Almagel Neo is a combined drug with enveloping, antacid, carminative and adsorbing effects.

Magnesium hydroxide and aluminum hydroxide (algeldrate) bind bile acids, neutralize free hydrochloric acid and reduce the acidity of gastric juice. Due to the laxative properties of magnesium hydroxide, the slowdown in intestinal motility caused by algeldrate is balanced.

Simethicone prevents the formation of gas bubbles and promotes the destruction of released gas bubbles. The gases that are formed during this are absorbed in the walls of the intestine and, due to peristalsis, are excreted from the body.

Pharmacokinetics

Absorption of magnesium and aluminum ions in the intestine is negligible. In patients with normal renal function, the plasma concentration of magnesium and aluminum does not change. In chronic renal failure, it is possible to increase the level of magnesium and aluminum in the blood to toxic concentrations, since the excretion of these ions is impaired.

Simethicone is chemically and physiologically inert, so it is not absorbed into tissues and organs, and after passing through the digestive tract, it is excreted in its original form.

Indications for use

  • exacerbation of peptic ulcer of the duodenum and stomach;
  • inflammation of the duodenum in the acute phase;
  • duodenogastric reflux (reflux of the contents of the duodenum into the stomach);

  • acute gastritis;
  • reflux esophagitis and gastroesophageal reflux;
  • heartburn and gastralgia (due to excessive consumption of coffee, ethanol or nicotine, as well as taking various drugs; due to an incorrect diet that negatively affects the functioning of the organs of the gastrointestinal tract);
  • symptomatic ulcers of the gastrointestinal tract of various etiologies;
  • exacerbation of chronic pancreatitis or acute pancreatitis;
  • erosion of the mucous membranes of the upper gastrointestinal tract;
  • flatulence (excessive accumulation of gases in the intestines);
  • putrefactive or fermentative dyspepsia.

Combined remedy, the action of which is due to its constituent components. It has an antacid, adsorbing, enveloping, carminative effect. Algeldrate (aluminum hydroxide) and magnesium hydroxide neutralize free hydrochloric acid in the stomach, lower the acidity of gastric juice, and bind bile acids. The laxative effect of magnesium hydroxide balances the ability of algeldrate to slow down intestinal motility. Simethicone hinders the formation of gas bubbles and contributes to their destruction. The gases released during this are absorbed by the intestinal walls and excreted from the body due to peristalsis. Pharmacokinetics Due to physiological and chemical inertness, simethicone is not absorbed into organs and tissues and, after passing through the gastrointestinal tract (GIT), is excreted unchanged. Absorption of aluminum and magnesium ions in the intestine is low. With normal kidney function, the concentration of aluminum and magnesium in the blood does not change. In patients with chronic renal failure, the level of aluminum and magnesium in the blood may increase to toxic values as a result of a violation of their excretion.

Today, people are increasingly suffering from diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, among which gastritis and ulcers are the most common diagnoses. To combat such ailments, there are many drugs that have proven their effectiveness more than once. Almagel is considered one of these drugs. It has been known for over 40 years and has been successfully used to this day to treat diseases of the digestive system. Today we will find out how the types of Almagel differ from each other, and how this medicine acts on the body.

Almagel copes well with diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, regulating the level of hydrochloric acid in gastric juice. The drug has proven itself on the good side, as it does not cause a shift in the pH balance of the stomach and intestines, does not affect the state of the blood and the excretory system.

Types of Almagel

This is an antacid drug that neutralizes the acidity of gastric juice and suppresses its excessive proteolytic activity. There are several types of Almagel, and how they differ from each other needs to be sorted out. Let's start with external differences:

  • Almagel - in green packaging;
  • Almagel A - in yellow packaging;
  • Almagel Neo - in orange packaging.

All preparations are produced in the form of a thick white suspension in a 170 ml plastic bottle, sold in a cardboard box. Instructions for use are attached. Only Almagel Neo goes on sale in the form of sachets of 10 ml, packed in a box of 10 or 20 pcs. Almagel is also in the form of tablets, as a replacement for the suspension. Sold in packs of 12 and 24.

It is worth noting that the drug has two spellings of the name: Almagel and Almagel. However, these are the names of the same medication.

Composition and action

The composition of the drug includes the active substance and auxiliary components. It is the active ingredients that determine the therapeutic effect of all forms of Almagel.

Almagel

Qualitative composition of the suspension: aluminum hydroxide gel (algeldrate) and magnesium hydroxide paste. Both components provide absorbent action. They absorb substances that adversely affect the lining of the stomach and intestines. Another therapeutic effect of these components is enveloping action. A powerful protective barrier is created on the surface of the walls of the stomach, which contributes to the uniform distribution of the drug. Such a protective layer provides a long-term effect of the active ingredients.

Aluminum and magnesium hydroxide neutralizing action on hydrochloric acid in the lumen of the stomach, resulting in the formation of aluminum and magnesium chloride. Subsequently, passing through the intestines, they are modified into alkaline salts. The proteolytic activity of pepsin decreases, and the environment becomes less aggressive. This is how it manifests antacid action medication. The ability to digest hydrochloric acid decreases and, accordingly, its adverse effect on the walls of the gastric tract decreases. There is an accelerated healing of erosive and ulcerative lesions, due to the elimination of negative factors. Another advantage is the absence of such a phenomenon as "acid rebound".

All aluminum compounds, including algeldrate, are characterized by a fixing effect. Magnesium hydroxide, on the contrary, manifests itself as an osmotic laxative, increasing the amount of water in the feces, accelerating their passage through the intestines. Sorbitol increases the secretion of bile, which laxative effect. Thus, these 2 substances complement each other, eliminating unpleasant consequences and causing a normal stool.

Almagel A

The only difference between Almagel A and the base suspension is that benzocaine is added to the main components. It is a local anesthetic.

Thanks to this substance, the patient is pronounced and rapid analgesic effect. Benzocaine, getting into the gastrointestinal tract, blocks the conduction of nerve impulses, so pain and discomfort disappear.

It should be remembered that the timing of the use of this type of medication is limited due to the side effects inherent in painkillers.

Almagel Neo

This type differs from the usual one in that it contains an additional component of simethicone. This element belongs to the group of carminatives, and according to the chemical structure it is an organosilicon compound.

Simethicone reduces the surface tension of gas bubbles in the digestive system, stimulating their rapid destruction and hindering further formation. Further, the released gases are absorbed into the intestinal wall and removed by peristalsis to the outside. This type of suspension acts gently and delicately, relieving dyspeptic disorders.

Any kind of drug Almagel can be found in a pharmacy. The price of the medicine varies from 150 to 300 rubles.

Indications for use

Indications for the use of all types of Almagel are similar, with the exception of a few points.

The use of antacid suspensions is prescribed:

  • for the treatment of acute or chronic gastritis with normal or elevated levels of hydrochloric acid;
  • in the treatment of ulcerative manifestations of the stomach and duodenum during periodic exacerbation;
  • to carry out preventive measures;
  • in the complex treatment of esophagitis, duodenitis, enteritis, hernia;
  • to relieve food intoxication;
  • to protect the walls of the stomach from the negative effects of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

Besides green Almagel recommended for indigestion. This is the best option for heartburn attacks, to eliminate discomfort after malnutrition or the influence of harmful factors.

Doctors prescribe yellow Almagel A in cases where the pain symptom is pronounced, accompanied by vomiting and nausea. When intense pain subsides, accompanying signs disappear, the patient is recommended to switch to the classic suspension.

Effectively relieves bloating (flatulence) orange Almagel Neo, which is used for putrefactive or fermentative dyspepsia.

Almagel is used to relieve symptoms and treat various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract. Each type of medicine is responsible for its area of action, carefully check with the gastroenterologist which Almagel is right for you.

Mode of application

Almagel comes in the form of a suspension and tablets. Before using the suspension, it is necessary to shake the contents of the vial so that it acquires a homogeneous composition.

The required dosage of the drug is determined by the gastroenterologist, depending on the age of the patient and the severity of the disease itself. Adults are prescribed from 5 to 10 ml. a single dose of the drug three times a day. Twice before meals for 30 minutes, and the last part is drunk before bedtime. If after a while there is no improvement in the patient's condition, the dosage is increased. The maximum allowable amount per day should not exceed 80 ml. (16 measuring spoons).

The dosage of Almagel for children should be strictly determined by the doctor. The following are just recommendations.

  • Children under 10 years old: 1.7-3.5 ml.
  • Children aged 10-15 years: 2.5-5 ml.
  • Teenagers over 15 years old: 5-10 ml.

Application by adults

Suspension Almagel begins to act within 5 minutes, and the therapeutic effect lasts up to 2 hours. The liquid can be drunk only 30 minutes after taking the antacid. If, in addition to this medicine, you additionally drink other medicines, it is recommended to observe an interval between doses of at least one hour. During treatment, it is undesirable to drink antibiotics, antihistamines and heart medications.

Almagel can be combined with other means, but the expected result will not be the same. This also applies to drinks containing caffeine, which reduces the effectiveness of therapy.

Almagel A is taken in the same way as classic Almagel in green packaging. The instructions indicate the following indications: exacerbation of gastric and duodenal ulcers, enteritis, duodenitis, exacerbation of acute and chronic gastritis, diaphragmatic hernia, acid reflux, colitis, indigestion, epigastric pain with malnutrition, diabetes. If you have severe, sharp pain, nausea and vomiting, then an anesthetic suspension is better suited for therapy.

Almagel Neo is prescribed one hour after meals at a dosage of 5 ml. - this is the whole difference between this drug and others from the Almagel series. You can drink up to 60 ml per day. It differs from other preparations in its orange flavor. Allowed for children only from 10 years in the amount of 5 ml. for one visit.

special instructions

The medicine is produced in the form of a suspension - gel, which ensures its rapid and uniform distribution throughout the digestive system. The antacid begins to act gently, creating reliable protection and not leading to a sharp decrease in acidity, so problems with digestion of food are excluded.

If the drug is taken for a long time, phosphorus deficiency may occur, because it is able to remove it from the body. Therefore, the lack of phosphorus must be filled with special preparations, or a balanced diet.

Almagel Neo contains alcohol. For this reason, it should be taken with caution by people who have impaired liver function, have alcohol dependence, and suffer from epilepsy. The presence of alcohol does not affect the concentration of attention and the speed of reaction. It is prescribed even to patients whose activities determine perseverance and attentiveness.

Patients with fructose intolerance are not recommended to be treated with this medicine, since it contains sorbitol. It can provoke mucosal irritation and diarrhea in this category of people.

Read the instructions carefully before using the medicine.

Side effects occur in isolated cases, if the doctor's instructions are not followed. As a rule, this is:

  • allergic manifestations;
  • nausea and vomiting;
  • change in taste sensations;
  • pain and spasms in the epigastrium;
  • drowsiness and thirst;
  • constipation or diarrhea.

When the patient suffers from renal insufficiency and consumes high doses of the suspension, this can lead to negative phenomena that are significantly different from the rest of the consequences. These include:

  • the appearance of edema;
  • an increase in the concentration of magnesium and aluminum in the blood, and calcium in the urine;
  • pressure drop;
  • dementia and encephalopathy.

Possibility of overdose

Long-term therapy in high doses of Almagel Neo may differ from treatment with other types of the drug by the occurrence of an overdose. The main symptoms are: increased fatigue and nervousness, changeable mood, slow breathing, numbness and muscle pain, inadequate reaction to events, hyperemia (redness) of the face. To eliminate such negative signs, you need to cleanse the body of an excess of medicine.

Such activities are carried out as: gastric lavage, stimulation of vomiting, laxatives and sorbents are given.

Contraindications

Here are the contraindications for all forms of Almagel:

  • hypersensitivity to its components;
  • Alzheimer's disease.

Caution should be taken during pregnancy. Let's just accept the usual form of Almagel. It is allowed to drink it for a maximum of 3 days and as a symptomatic remedy, as it can harm the development of the fetus.

This medication is considered one of the safest, because it is not absorbed into the circulatory system and does not harm the body during therapy. It quickly and effectively acts on an irritated stomach without stimulating metabolic disorders. All types of Almagel meet modern requirements, and their clinical effectiveness has been proven by many years of research.

pharmachologic effect

Pharmacokinetics

Simethicone, due to physiological and chemical inertness, is not absorbed into organs and tissues and, after passing through the gastrointestinal tract, is excreted unchanged. Absorption of aluminum and magnesium ions in the intestine is low. With normal kidney function, the concentration of aluminum and magnesium in the blood does not change. In chronic patients, the level of aluminum and magnesium in the blood may rise to toxic values as a result of a violation of their excretion.
