Tests for diagnosing neurotic conditions. Neurosis. What is it and how to detect
Any test that can diagnose neurosis must be performed by a specialist. The results obtained provide only generalized information. Conclusions about whether a neurosis is present can only be drawn on the basis of a detailed study of the patient's personality. Online versions are needed more for self-diagnosis, to confirm the need to seek medical help.
A psychological test that is offered to a patient with suspected neurosis is designed to help identify the symptoms of the disorder:
- anxiety;
- chronic fatigue;
- self-doubt, indecision.
Such a test will show that a person does not have life goals, is not set up for success. It will also allow you to identify - if available - an inferiority complex in relation to the patient's appearance, his sociability.

Luscher color diagnostics
This technique was developed by Max Luscher. With its help, the patient's psychophysical state, his communication skills, activity, and stress resistance are assessed. The method allows you to determine the causes of stress, which may provoke the manifestation of physiological symptoms, as well as neurosis.
CUSTOMER FEEDBACK:
Galina Ilya Yurievich! Thank you very much for your sessions, in which I was lucky to take part. Thanks to them, I became more confident in many issues and situations that previously caused anxiety and concern. You taught me how to deal with this in a short amount of time. It's a pleasure to deal with a high-level professional!
Anna Ilya Yurievich, it is difficult to find words to express my gratitude to you for your help. I remembered in what state and with what thoughts I met the last year, 2017. I remember those feelings of bitterness, anxiety that did not come out of me under any circumstances. Finally, I have left this desire for self-destruction and now I can breathe differently. Thank you!
Tatiana Thank you, Ilya Yurievich, for the advice. Indeed, it allowed me to look at my life situation from a different angle. Thanks again!
Vladimir Thank you very much for your advice! Indeed, I noticed that memories pop up at a time when I was in a bad mood or irritable, but I could not understand that this was a defense mechanism. At his next appearance, I will try to talk about what exactly causes irritation, instead of plunging into memories.
Daria Many thanks for the help! I am very glad you helped me understand myself and showed me a new way to improve my life!

Do you sometimes feel that the difficulties are great and insurmountable? Data processing. It is necessary to count the number of affirmative answers: if more than 24 points are received, this indicates a high probability of neurosis. We emphasize once again that the technique provides only preliminary and generalized information. Final conclusions can be drawn only after a detailed study of the personality. The emergence of neurosis is usually preceded by a process of neurotization. Neuroticization is a state of emotional instability that can lead to neurosis and neurotic tendencies in the behavior of the individual.
Color selection method
The color selection method is an adapted version
Luscher color test.
The development of the test is based on a purely empirical approach and
initially associated with the installation of the study of emotional and
physiological state of a person in order to differentiate
psychotherapeutic approach and to assess the effectiveness of the correctional
impact. The experience of using the eight-color Luscher test in domestic conditions not only confirmed its effectiveness, but also made it possible to comprehend its phenomenology in
context of modern scientific outlook. Its advantage over
many other personality tests in that he is devoid of cultural
ethnic foundations and does not provoke (unlike most others,
especially verbal tests) defensive reactions. The technique reveals
not only the conscious, subjective attitude of the subject to color
standards, but mostly his unconscious reactions, which allows you to count
method is deep, projective.
Color vision is equally related to the perception of each
a particular color, both through the prism of mediating subjective experience and
through the reactions of the "old brain", i.e. diencephalic region, which is
conductor in a complex orchestra of autonomous systems of the body. Especially
indicative in this regard is the interweaving of the psychological aspects of the current
human condition with sympathetic-parasympathetic characteristics,
associated with the functions of the pituitary gland. They are known to be largely
affect the background of mood, general mental activity, incentive
the strength of the motivational sphere, the intensity of needs. The technique reveals
threshold of susceptibility of the visual analyzer of the subject: this threshold, as
shows experience, largely due to the predominance
trophotropic (desire for rest) or ergotropic (desire for
activity) trends within the vegetative balance. At the same time, the choice
color range depends both on a set of stable personal characteristics,
and from the current state, due to a particular situation.
The Luscher test in the original is presented in two versions: full
study using 73 color charts and a short test using
eight color row. The first one is rather cumbersome and represents
value is most likely in cases where the color test is
the only tool for psychodiagnostic research. However, the end result of the study is not so
extensive information compared to the time and effort spent.
Conciseness and ease of use of the eight-color range is a great
the advantage of the reduced version, especially since in the application to the battery
test methods, the reliability of the data obtained increases,
The examination procedure proceeds as follows:
it is proposed to choose the most pleasant color from the tables laid out in front of him,
not correlating it either with the color of the clothes (whether it suits the face), or with the upholstery of the furniture,
with nothing else, but only in accordance with how this color
preferred over others at a given choice and at a given moment.
When laying out color standards in front of the subject, you should use
indifferent background. Lighting should be uniform, enough
bright (it is better to conduct a study in daylight). Distance
there must be at least 2 cm between the color charts. Selected standard
removed from the table or turned face down. At the same time, the psychologist
records the number of each selected color sample. Recording goes to the left
right. The numbers assigned to the color standards are: dark blue -1,
blue-green - 2, orange-red - 3, yellow - 4, purple - 5,
brown - 6, black - 7, gray - 0.
Each time, the subject should be asked to choose the most
a pleasing color from the remaining until all colors have been selected. After two -
five minutes, after mixing them in a different order, color charts
must be laid out again in front of the subject and completely repeat the procedure
choice, while saying that the study is not aimed at studying memory and
that he is free to choose again the colors he likes as he will
M. Luscher allows data interpretation
testing and based on a single choice. color function,
reflecting the subjective attitude of the subject to the selected colors,
defined and encoded as follows: explicit preference
is indicated by a "+" sign, which is assigned to the first two preferred
flowers. Of these, the color in the first position determines the "basic way
action", and on the second - the "goal" to which the subject is striving. Simply
"preference" (3rd and 4th positions) is marked with "*" and indicates
"true state of affairs" (situation) and "mode of action" arising from
this situation. "Indifference" (5th and 6th - positions) is indicated by the sign "=" and
indicates currently unclaimed reserves, indifferent
zone, dormant personality traits. "Rejection" (antipathy) - 7th and 8th
positions, they are assigned a "-" sign, their functional meaning is
"repressed needs". This is the classic approach to interpreting
Luscher color range.
The colors are divided into primary (1 - dark blue, 2 - blue-green, 3 -
orange-red and 4 - light yellow) and additional, among which 7
(black) and 0 (gray) are achromatic, and 5 (purple) and 6 (brown) are
mixed. Primary colors symbolize basic psychological
needs, which Luscher defined as the need for satisfaction and
attachments (blue), the need for self-affirmation (green),
the need to "act and succeed" (red) and the need
"look ahead and hope" (yellow). Therefore, they are normal and at full
Complementary colors are not given a weight equal to
need area. Their role is, as it were, dividing or diluting. By
According to Luscher, they are not psychological "primary elements" and
included in the experiment mainly to expand the scope of the main
colors, their freer movement to one or another position of the row.
The symbolism of each color is rooted in distant periods.
the history of human existence on earth. The night, symbolized by
blue color, from ancient times brought peace, relaxation, sleep to a person. sun, brightness
dawning day (yellow color) evoked hope, encouraged
activity. Red color - coloring of flowers, fruits, blood, erotogenic zones
human body - a reflection of hunting instincts, erotic attraction,
striving to master the blessings of the surrounding life. Green is the color of the grass
bushes and trees - could serve as a symbol of protection, disguise,
secrecy. Gray - as the absence of color - is interpreted as separating,
enclosing. Black symbolizes the denial of the bright colors of life and
existence itself. Brown is a mixture of orange and
black, and purple - red and blue. Based on the symbolism of flowers and
accumulated practical experience, structural meaning in dark blue
characterized as concentric, (i.e. focusing on internal
problems), passivity, depth of experience, sensitivity,
heteronomy (i.e. dependence on external influences), his emotional
shade according to Luscher - calmness, satisfaction, affection,
blue color means an urgent need for peace forever
unsatisfied vulnerable person.
According to Luscher, the green color symbolizes the elasticity of the will (according to
defensive tendencies, autonomy (independence), immutability,
tendency to hold, possessiveness. Its affective aspects -
perseverance, self-confidence, stubbornness and self-respect.
Orange-red symbolizes willpower and is eccentric
(directed outward), active, offensively aggressive, autonomous,
locomotor, competitive, operational. Its affective aspects -
desire, excitability, power, sexuality. (Structural values
are given here literally, their descriptive form emphasizes
empirical nature of the foundations of the methodology and interpretation premises).
In his later publications, M. Luscher correlates
preferred color choice with hippocratic typology as follows
way: blue - phlegmatic, green - melancholic, yellow - sanguine and
red - choleric, which is not only not confirmed in practice, but also
contrary to his own characteristics. Years of experience
applying a color test in comparison with data from other methods and
the results of objective observation allow the author of this book to
to assert with conviction that the color red corresponds to the sanguine
temperament (if we stick to this classification), blue -
melancholic, green - phlegmatic, and yellow is closer to
choleric.
If the psychology of color perception (according to previous experience
application of the color test) is focused on momentary emotional
state, then subsequent experience with the application of the technique showed that even in
similar situations, people's reactions differ depending on the initial
individual-typological basis of the individual. And this means that in each specific case we are studying not just a state, but the reaction of a certain
personality to a specific situation, i.e. we study personality and its range
variability under the influence of external circumstances. This is evidenced by
the presence of stable pairs of color choices, as well as the dynamics of color
choice when, on a state change, the most significant color references
move from the first positions to the last (and vice versa), keeping
the relevance of the leading need symbolized by them.
The experience of using the eight-color test in a comprehensive study with
using other well-tested test methods showed that
with the correct understanding and evaluation of the results of the study, the method of color
elections (MCV) can identify not only situationally determined reactions,
but also stable individual-personal properties that determine
known selectivity, tropism (unconscious attraction) in relation to
choice. areas of interest, a way of self-realization in a professional
activities, features of interpersonal behavior, as well as protective and
compensatory mechanisms that manifest themselves in emotional
tension.
Comparison of color choices gives an idea of the trends
which are subject to the greatest variability and create a certain reserve
adaptive mechanism, which will be discussed later. Within the framework of the above
conceptual approach following the indicators of other psychodiagnostic
methods fit into a coherent interpretation scheme and the results
MTSV. First of all, it is obvious that indicators of weakness
nervous processes, trophotropic tendencies - as a basis for constant
personal properties - reflected by a combination of "concentric" (1 and 2) colors
in the first positions of the color range, while "eccentric" colors (3 and
4) identify belonging to a strong type of GNI. At the same time, the most
"pure" variant of the weak type is revealed mainly concentric
heteronomous blue, and the combination of blue (1st color standard) with
green (2nd color standard) is characteristic of a mixed type of response,
because contains the characteristics of a defensive-protective,
extrapunitive properties and is distinguished by a greater volitional orientation,
than the "pure" weak (passive-contemplative, introverted) type
response that is unique to blue.
At the same time, the most "clean" variant of the sthenic type is reflected
characteristics of red: the combination of red and yellow reveals
the emotional pattern is less stable, labile, and the style of activity is
insufficiently targeted, i.e. this type of response is also
mixed. Thus, the interpretation scheme of the color method
elections includes two polar types - strong and weak - and two
mixed. The relationship of primary colors with the properties of the nervous system
is detected by the ratio of yellow (4) with lability, red (3) - with
dynamism in relation to excitation, green (2) - with inertia,
blue - with dynamism in relation to braking, yellow and red - with
high external reactivity with low intrapsychic activity,
blue and green - with low external reactivity at high
intrapsychic activity.
Thus, each primary color determines the leading trend,
giving a typological outline to the emotional-dynamic
pattern, which is manifested by the strength and direction of motives,
individual style of experience and interpersonal behavior, type
perception and processing of information about the surrounding world, i.e. style
thinking.
It should be noted that M. Luscher himself later came to the idea that
primary colors correlate with a certain individual philosophical
his publications appeared much later. However, in his later works
M. Luscher remains true to himself: instead of a generalized idea pointing to
the root nature of a particular type of personality, when causal
connections allow deriving particular manifestations from the cornerstone foundation
theoretical paradigm, infinitely respected and talented author
methodology still remains a prisoner of pure empiricism. speech
features, role behavior and other manifestations of individuals of different types
he describes as the sum of specific features. Comparative data analysis
with the results of other methods showed that these signs are excellent
fit into the framework of the above individual-personal
typologies. At the same time, some of Luscher's mistakes are striking, when from
very successful characteristics based on specific experience, he
moves on to generalized personality portraits. Yes, he claims that
preference for the blue standard is a sign of satisfaction, while experience
convinces of something else: this is a leading, never completely unsatisfied need
at ease and relationship satisfaction. Another disagreement is that
the same blue at the end of the row (like any other primary color)
does not mean the opposite quality, but the frustration of that need,
that this color represents. The significance of the color choice is defined as
the first three positions, revealing the typological affiliation
individual, and the latter. In the first case, we are talking about the leading trend,
which determines the individual's style of experience, perception, motivation and
behavior, and in the second (i.e. when the color is rejected) determined by this color
needs are frustrated.
Another serious mistake of M. Luscher is that he is the type
people who choose blue are phlegmatic, and green are
melancholic. At the same time, he rightly points out that the
those who choose blue tend to be deeply attached and sensitive to
environmental influences, and those who prefer green are stubborn, persistent,
alert, constantly on the defensive, demanding
recognition, which clearly contradicts the relevant typological
portraits and the very evidence, which is clearly manifested when
comparison of ICV data with indicators of other methods. Same with
interpretation of other bright color standards: it is quite clear that
the preference for red (the color of blood) is natural for sanguine people, and
yellow (bile), reflecting emotional instability, - for
choleric. Luscher, on the other hand, attributes the former to being choleric, and
the second - to the sanguine. At the same time, without noticing the contradictions, it is correct
classifies sexual activity in red as phallic,
blue - as oral, and green - as anal. Moreover, its characteristic
green as "flexibility of will" contradicts his own words that significant
green reveals "persistence, resistance to change, constancy
views", which is typical for rigid personalities, that is, the most inflexible
among other typologies. In addition, it is the rigid
epileptoid personalities belong (according to Freud) to the anal-erotic type
sexuality. It seems that these errors are due to the fact that M. Lusher
repelled mainly from medical practice, without having a serious
psychological base. His holistic portraits of personalities are very naive. At that
at the same time, the color test itself, created by Luscher, is an excellent technique, this is -
just a brilliant find.
It must be emphasized that the quantitative criteria for a given
methods are difficult to clearly define. Depending on the population
surveyed, these indicators vary significantly, therefore, to determine
the probability of one or another sign would be required to determine the boundaries
reliability for groups of different sex, age, professional
affiliation, regional sign. However, even then they would not be
quite specific. In this regard, some psychologists do not attribute the method
Luscher to test because of the impossibility of its rigid standardization. By the way,
this is not the only method in psychology that requires more quality
analysis than a quantified approach. However, this is not a reason to
deny that the eight color test is one of their best tools
psychodiagnostics, because this method allows using the original
stimulus material to obtain in a short experiment those data on
a person who outline the deep foundations of individual
personality pattern and a complex pattern of emotional state.
Particularly convincing are the possibilities of the technique in determining stress, in
assessment of the degree of disharmony or disintegration of the personality. In the same time
quantitative indicators of anxiety (the number of characters "!") turned out to be
sufficiently reliable criterion, which was especially evident in the longitudinal
research. With regard to the definition of typological properties and
psychological characteristics of the state, it is more relevant here
a qualitative analysis is presented. At the same time, the percentages and
the degree of probability of preference for one color or another is a sign, although
dependent on many variables, but it can be sufficiently objectified
indicators of other psychodiagnostic methods.
The study of people with different personalities
related to the mental norm, convincingly showed the importance of color in
determining the leading, root individual psychological trend.
Moreover, this significance is the higher, the more to the left is the position of one or more
other base color. Thus, I, II, III and IV positions determine the type
personality, but with a caveat: if this choice is not purely random
character, if it is stable, characteristic of a person throughout
long period of life choice. To increase the reliability of the results
the examination procedure itself is somewhat transformed by us: if the first
and the second choice are noticeably different, the subject is asked to clarify
their attitude to the colors that changed their position in the process of their pair
comparisons. For example, with two choices:
additional instruction should sound like this: "Which of these two do you
do you prefer?: blue or yellow? Green or yellow? yellow or
red? green or blue?". In this case, the pair 2 4 in this choice can
be random if the final choice is 2 1 4 3 or 1234 on the first
positions, which is not uncommon.
In this regard, it is appropriate to emphasize that the difficult pairing and
blind attachment to them when interpreting (especially when defining
goals and means of achievement) turned out to be practically not always justified.
This approach should be considered as a stage on the way of mastering the methodology,
the ultimate goal of which should be a holistic understanding of the color range,
forming an integrative image of a person in the context of a certain
states. In order to avoid shifting the typical choice under the influence
current state, attention should be paid to additional and
achromatic color standards. As a rule, in the process correctly
ongoing survey, preceded by an appropriate explanation of
research goals and interspersed with calm, friendly conversation,
these colors, which turned out to be in a significant position during the 1st choice, in the future
move to the right if the shift was associated with the examination procedure itself and
aroused in the subject a reaction of alertness, protest or defense.
If the first and second choices differ sharply (or significantly)
from a friend, this may be the result of unwillingness to be examined, the desire
"confuse the cards", get away from interference in your subjective world. Such
the reaction appears gray or black to one of the first or
directly 1st position. If the third choice is different from the first
nor on the 2nd, then the examination should be stopped, or resumed only after
how the subject will develop a calm and serious attitude towards
research. If the subject explains his behavior by the fact that he has
there is no specific relationship to colors, then this statement in itself
symptomatic and may indicate an altered motivational
sphere. At the same time, one can also use the procedure of pairwise
table comparisons (with a certain focus on the existing ones before
through the eyes of the experimenter (choices). At the end of any examination procedure,
makes it difficult to finish it by presenting the last row with the question: "Do you want to
Do you want to change anything in this row?". In addition, the study can be
supplement with the question: "What colors did you like earlier in childhood, in your youth?",
"What is your favorite color in general?", referring to the colors that are absent in
methodology.
In a number of situations, subjects supplement the study with interesting
information. For example, when choosing 01 523461, the subject says: "In childhood
I loved green and red more than any other color."
it is natural to assume that passivity, difficulties in contacts, inertia
and pessimism, incredulity and suspicion have developed in
as a result of long-term adverse effects of the environment on
emerging personality, which led to a state of chronically
difficult adaptation, which is mainly manifested by difficulties in interpersonal contacts, sensitivity, withdrawal into the world of far-fetched grievances,
blockage of spontaneous self-realization; however, in a situation of encouragement
and approvals; in favorable social conditions, the subject can
collectivity and efficiency will appear, and, due to its inherent
conscientiousness and "responsibility, he is able to fulfill the tasks assigned to
his duties: however, having exhausted the resources of activity, he may again fall
in a state of passivity, strive for peace and limit contacts.
Another example: the subject is a young woman working for
large industrial enterprise, divorced, has two children; choice
MTSV: 01563427. During the interview, she spoke about a difficult home
situation: she was forced to separate from her husband due to his constant
alcoholism, raises two children, lives far from work.
Psychocorrective conversation eventually allowed the subject
re-evaluate her values: she is young and pretty, she has wonderful
children and a lot of good things await her in the future: a divorce from her husband in the current
situations are good, because now there is peace in the family; in Moscow work located
away from home is a common problem. At the end of the interview, a woman (without
any provocation) said: “Yes, I’m happy, I now understand this, and
if I now lay out your tables, then I would be in first place
put red, yellow and green - the colors of joy. " Apparently, it was
hypercompensation reaction or a phenomenon that Luscher described as
harmonization of the state under the influence of psychotherapy and is called "autogenic
norm" (we are talking about the normalization of choice after a session of autogenic
workout). During further examinations, her choice tended to
row: 01534267. By nature, this woman was distinguished by shyness,
indecisiveness, features of dependence, the desire to avoid conflict,
with signs of irrational irritability, manifested in stress
in interpersonal conflicts, which in socially significant conditions
was successfully controlled, however, at the cost of increasing overall tension.
Thus, she had a mixed type of response with
the predominance of characteristics of a weak type - passivity,
introversion, softness and femininity; leading need -
peace and conflict-free coexistence with others, the ability to suppress
spontaneous reactions, performance dependence (see position "working
group") on the mood and situation, the need for support and encouragement
to activate.
Stress in persons of a mental norm, in a disharmonious personality and in a patient with
mental illness may look the same -607 on the first three
positions and, on the contrary, composure, activity, optimism, high
self-esteem, denial of any problems, lust for life, desire for
defending their positions (choice 3 4 2...) may reflect 1) emotional
pattern of harmonious personality of the sthenic circle; 2) overcompensation as
defensive reaction to difficulties; 3) oligophrenic type of response to
a background of reduced criticism; 4) post-procedural defect as a result
mental illness. However, such serious difficulties can
arise only if the psychologist does not use any other
method other than the color test. Even a simple comparison of the color range with
objective observation data, with a medical history or clinical
diagnosis (if any) allows us to determine whether we are dealing with
psychologically understandable experiences of harmonious or
accentuated personality, or we are talking about a pronounced dissociation between
"cheerful" color choice pattern and severe desocialization
a mentally ill person with a certain catamnesis of the disease. Few
Moreover, such dissociation is in itself informative and indicates
increasing the threshold of susceptibility of the color analyzer, which is often
is a particular manifestation of the general picture of flattening, coarsening
personality, inadequate self-esteem, uncriticality.
In other cases of pathology, the canvas of experiences crosses the border
psychological intelligibility, adequacy and becomes ridiculous. Here
only clinical experience can be a measure of the syntonicity of experiences.
Therefore, in these cases, psychiatrically competent
verification of the state estimate and the use of other methods
psychodiagnostic and experimental psychological research,
which can detect deviations from normal personality reactions.
It is more difficult to establish a gradation between moderately pronounced trends
normal personality, accentuated characterological pattern and
the presence of psychopathic traits. If in MMPI (SMIL) quantitative
criteria for assessing the degree of adaptation and personal harmony
produced in T-scores, in Cattell's 16-factor personality analysis
reflected in the walls, then the test of color choices reflects the personal
discomfort and emotional tension by the movement of achromatic
color tables to the left.
However, the psychopathic personality of a hypersthenic warehouse,
outside of stress and emotional tension, i.e. in the comfort zone
can give a choice of 3421 5607 or 4251607. According to Luscher, such
elections are close to the average and reflect the optimistic,
active, life-loving position of the individual. This is where it affects
lack of quantitative gradation of the severity of one or another
sign. This is the weakest link in Luscher's psychodiagnostic test.
But, again, this fact can serve as a stumbling block only in
if there is no way to obtain additional information;
usually, the survey can be supplemented by an interview with the subject or
comparing color test data with the results of other
psychodiagnostic methods and data (if any)
clinical observation in order to understand in the context of which problems one should
decipher color choice. And that doesn't detract from the importance.
technique, you just need to know the limits of its capabilities.
It seems controversial point of view of M. Luscher in terms of interpretation
ratios in color pairs. Experience shows that the 1st and 2nd position of the colors in
the pair do not so much reflect the means and the end as they correspond
prevailing trends in the need sphere. These needs
the following:
1. Blue color - the need for deep affection as a tool
achieving external protection, emotional comfort, peace.
2. Green - the need to defend one's own position,
defensiveness, aggressiveness of a protective nature.
3. Red - the need to achieve, possess, lead,
offensive aggressiveness of the "conqueror", purposefulness, high
search activity.
4. Yellow - the need for emotional involvement and
social security. Brightness of experiences and communication - how
necessary process.
These needs are the basis of an individually defined
motivational orientation and represent the most important
human needs, the actualization of which is necessary for normal
human existence. The need that is leading, she and
determines the individual personality pattern of a person, in which not only
emotional features, but also other substructures of personality
(intelligence, interpersonal behavior) are colored characteristic of this
individual style.
If any of the basic needs is frustrated, then
the corresponding color standard is in one of the last positions.
If achromatic (0 7) or additional
colors (5 6), then the needs identified by them are designated as secondary. They are
are not the main needs, it is only a forced protective
reaction to the impossibility of fulfilling primary needs.
5. Purple - the need to escape from reality,
irrationality of claims, unrealistic demands on life, subjectivism,
individualism, emotional immaturity.
6. Brown - the need to reduce anxiety, the desire for
psychological and physical comfort.
7. Black - the need for independence through protest, negativism in
calm, rest; passivity.
Thus, bright color charts reflect the needs,
determining the style of life stereotype, way of existence, vital,
ever-existing and never fully satiated needs^
peculiar to the individual as handwriting, as modus vivendi, as folded and always
tense spring, as the main motivating force, driving a person in
a certain direction. Needs determined by achromatic and
complementary colors, are closely related to defense mechanisms,
aimed at counteracting anxiety, pressure from external influences,
fatigue and reflect the problem of frustration of the basic need,
denial by the individual of the prevailing conditions and interpersonal relationships,
avoiding them into inaction (0), into self-pity (6), into protest reactions (7), into
fantasy world and irrational defenses (5) .
However, this is only a generalized approach to understanding the "root" origins
those qualities that underlie the color perception of test standards.
Comparative analysis of ICV data with the results of other
psychodiagnostic techniques and objective observation data allowed
come to such a scheme for interpreting the meanings of Luscher colors:
1. Blue color in the color range, steadily occupying 1 position,
indicates that the subject corresponds to a weak type of GNI with
the predominance of trophotropic tendencies and the dynamism of the nervous system in
regarding the processes of inhibition; accompanied by introversion and
passivity, combined with increased anxiety and a tendency to
pessimism; unsure of themselves and their prospects, persons of this type
constantly need reliable support and calmness, as a result of which
traits of dependence, extreme sensitivity to environmental
influences, a tendency to strengthen one's position through attachment and
protection from another person, and affiliative need is
leading. Thus, the need for understanding and empathy determines
stable personal characteristics as dominant, vital, and
therefore the never fully satiated driving force that determines
a style of existence in which the refrain sounds always relevant to
this type of personality the problem of a positive, benevolent attitude
significant others. Among women, this type of response occurs
significantly more frequently than among men.
The inertia of reactions and the depth of experiences are also formed by others -
derivative - properties: conformity of attitudes, avoidance of conflict,
striving for a stable situation, fear of difficulties, indecision
in decision making, thoughtfulness, empathy, passivity
in relation to topical issues, an increased tendency to reflection. Choice
blue color is one of the first characteristic of introverts with anancastes
traits. These traits are exacerbated and manifested by psychasthenic
features when combining blue with gray in the first positions. In this
situations, introversion already sounds like a problem of communication difficulties and
manifested by excessive indecision, shyness, feeling
misunderstanding, rejection by significant others, egocentric neurotic
focus on your problems. Combination of blue and black
indicates emotional (simultaneously with vegetative)
instability, contrasting manifestations of vulnerability with aggressiveness,
dependence and protest reactions, resentment and irritability. Here
the problem of suppressed aggression is manifested, which in general is characteristic
psychosomatics. This combination is often found in individuals with various
psychosomatic diseases and vegetovascular imbalance.
Various combinations of blue with achromatic and mixed colors
reflect the level of disadaptation. Moreover, the appearance in the first positions
achromatic colors, especially black, are more disturbing than mixed ones.
The combination of blue with brighter colors gives an emotional pattern.
certain shades that complicate its melancholic basis. So,
combination 1 2 for the norm population can be considered harmonious, since these
the colors are next to each other on the psychogram and are in relation to each other
additional. In contrast to the characteristics of a weak, retarded
type inherent in blue, the combination 1 2 attaches several
"softened" due to the blue color attributes of green. Moderately
pronounced (not accentuated) character of this type contains
along with restraint, constancy in affections and depth
feelings, defensive traits, striving for accuracy, increased
a sense of neatness, practicality, a tendency to systematize experience and
accumulation of negative emotional experiences. Combination 1 2 reflects
need for self-respect and respect for others, sensitivity to
regarding critical remarks, the desire to stubbornly defend their
positions in socially encouraged or non-aggressive ways. This is indeed
a combination shifted from the first positions by achromatic tables and
mixed colors - corresponds to the relevance of the problem of self-affirmation,
hurt pride and the desire to uphold a personal position with
tinge of hurt. If 1 2 are in positions III-IV, but the first
positions are occupied by bright colors, then this option can be interpreted as
combination of sthenic and hyposthenic tendencies in harmoniously
balanced personality.
2. The presence of green (blue-green) color in the first positions
reflects a mixed type of response with a predominance of passive -
defensive tendencies, if it is combined with 0 or 1 color, and appears
more aggressiveness in combination with bright colors, giving
the defensive nature of the position, in which one's own aggression
is justified by a threat coming from outside and is experienced by the personality as a secondary,
externally conditioned defensive reaction to the aggression of others. faces,
constantly choosing the 2nd color in the first positions, they are rigid
attitudes, perseverance and perseverance, a tendency to systematize,
tropism for the exact sciences and concreteness, a tendency to rely on
accumulated experience, increased sensitivity to social criteria
external assessment of one's personality, hence the ambition, significance
socioeconomic status, the problem of one's own prestige, sustainability
attachments and interests, passion, a sense of rivalry,
competitiveness, accuracy or even pedantry. Submission for them
unpleasant, hence the desire for leadership, or at least for
autonomy and social acceptance. This type of response is significant
more common among men. In combination with the 0th color, features are enhanced
isolation, signs of interpersonal conflict, communication difficulties,
feeling of incomprehension, rejection by others, exaggerated through
the prism of increased sensitivity to criticism, subjective confidence in
his rightness.
The irrational, maladaptive aspect of the 5th color exacerbates
suspiciousness of the 2nd, and they combined 5 2 or 2 5 in the first positions
reveal a tendency to systematize subjective, far-fetched assessments according to
attitude towards other people and the current situation, i.e. features of a paranoid style of experience and behavior. Anxiety(6) and protest
reactions (7) in combination with color 2 give it the properties of an irritable
explosive (62 -26) or incredulously negative (27 -72) behavior.
Are the characteristics of 2 colors constitutionally leading or
determine the current state, depends not only (and not so much) on its
positions - I, II, III. - how much of the correlation of color selection data with
MMPI scales (MMPI), in particular the 6th, 0th, 8th, and indicators of other
psychodiagnostic tests (primary and secondary deviations according to
myokinetic psychodiagnostics, frustration test data
Rosenzweig - a high percentage of extrapunitive responses, S-ioaaou according to Rorschach-
The location of the 2nd color in the last positions of the color range
indicates a frustrated need for social
self-affirmation, infringed pride, unfulfilled claims.
The combination of 2 3 or 3 2 in the first positions enhances the characteristics of the 2nd color,
the type of response is characterized as more sthenic, the position - as active
defensive (2 3) or aggressive-defensive (3 2) and reflects the alloy
properties inherent in each of the colors separately; this combination
presented as a clash of strong tendencies that create
predisposition to explosive (explosive) reactions.
The combination in the first positions of the color choice of 2 and 4 colors is
even more conflicting: the characteristics of rigidity are opposed
emotional instability, tendency to accumulate negative
emotions is combined with high spontaneity, unrestrained emotional
reactions: tendency to self-control with poor controllability,
suspiciousness with demonstrativeness, incredulity with openness,
neatness with carelessness, defensive hostility with
promiscuous sociability, caution with carelessness. If these
qualities are expressed moderately, this will give a normal
balance of a harmonious personality, in which contradictory
directional tendencies are balanced and reasonably dosed accordingly
specific situation, but with excessive expression of each of these
trends, the character acquires features of noticeable instability with sharp
behavioral changes, outbursts of excessive emotional
experiences, a tendency to explosive reactions in a situation of an affected
pride. If the choice of the 1st color in the first positions is typical for persons with
sensitive accentuation, then the choice of the 2nd in a similar position is characteristic
"stuck" accentuated personalities (according to Leonhard) or "rigid"
in our classification, as well as epileptoid or paranoid
psychopaths, but in the latter case, the 2nd color is most often combined with the 5th
or 7th, and for rigid introverts - with 0th color.
The worst mistake that can occur in the interpretation
ICV data is an incorrect estimate of the degree of disintegration. ICV
allows only to highlight the structure of experiences and the degree of involvement
personality under stress. The same 5 2 on I-II, II - III positions of choice can mean
caution, alertness, subjectivity of the individual in assessing objectively
complex interpersonal relationships, and be a sign of the presence
paranoid tendencies. Comparison of ICV data with objective
data and results of other psychodiagnostic methods (option 1 -
the SMIL profile is within the normal range, and option 2 is a profile above 70 T with peaks
on the 8th and 6th scales) will allow you to correctly assess the problems of personality and
level of personal integration.
3. Red (orange - red, terracotta) - reflects the sthenic
type of response in the most pronounced form and reveals tension
the need for activity aimed at achieving the goal, mastering
all that brings joy and pleasure; including the high
sexual-erotic involvement. Selecting this table in the first position
characteristic of individuals with a courageous temperament, independent,
solutions. High search activity, curiosity, dominance
emotions of interest and curiosity. Sayings and actions can get ahead of them
thoughtfulness due to spontaneity of behavior, looseness of feelings. It -
the desire to "be", to be realized, manifested by the tension of affect, if
fulfillment of needs is not possible at the moment. Disharmonious
personality, this quality results in impulsiveness, reduced self-control,
aggressive statements and actions.
Possibility of unrestrained behavior with compulsive aggression
increases if the 3rd color is in one of the last positions
(frustration of urgent, vital needs,
the impossibility of self-realization), and the 7th color on one of the first
(irrational and unrestrained protest reactions). If the combination of 32 and 34
complements the characteristics of the 3rd color in its own way (also 2 3 and 4 3), revealing
mixed response options for rigid-impulsive and unstable
impulsive type, then the combination 31 deserves special attention, because this is -
contrast combination. At the same time, the "strong", excitable traits inherent in
3rd color - sthenicity, activity, optimism, aggressiveness,
dominance, masculinity, - enter into a contradictory interaction with
characteristics of a weak, inhibited type - passivity, sensitivity,
pessimism, gentleness, thoughtfulness, dependence,
femininity. Luscher highlights this option as ideally harmonious.
However, our experience shows that this type of personality, although it looks outwardly
quite "ideal" due to pronounced self-control, differs
pronounced internal tension, which is the basis for the development
psychosomatic diseases, in particular, ischemic myocardial disease.
Outwardly balanced due to the confrontation of mutually contradictory
character traits, these individuals constantly experience a fairly pronounced
tension that gravitates toward transformation through somatization.
The psychological pattern of these individuals is close to type "A", described by
Jenkinson as a psychosomatic predisposition.
The choice in which the first positions are 3 and 0 colors is characteristic
narcissistic variant of personality; while egocentrism and lust for life
combined with a cold-distant attitude towards others. Combination 3 7 in
positions -3 -7 or +7 -3 positively correlates with the presence of obsessive
actions, especially with 0 1 or 1 0 in the first three positions (P=0.73 among
group of patients with borderline mental disorders). AT
within the framework of neurotic reactions, obsessions manifest themselves against the background of
psychasthenic character accentuation in the form of obsessive counting
unnecessary items, performing superstitious rituals, difficulty falling asleep
against the background of mental "chewing" of constantly existing problems or
events of the current day. The combination of 53, 35 or +3 -5 is typical for people with
enough outlined creative individuality, original,
original thinking, with a peculiarity of interests, however, these characteristics
relevant only if there is a good intellectual base and
abilities for which this emotional-dynamic pattern
is presented as a personal predisposition, optimal conditions for
creative development of the individual. With low intelligence and lack of
abilities, such a person is distinguished only by a masterful and intractable
character, increased sense of independence, irrational
original radical, the desire to stand out, not to be subject to
generally accepted norms, which, under certain unfavorable conditions, may
expressed in antisocial tendencies (especially when combined 357, 375,
753 in the first positions).
4. Yellow color in the first position is characteristic of emotive personalities.
warehouse. Experiences and the process of communication are in themselves essential to them;
the leading need of the individual is to be involved in the process emotionally
rich interpersonal interaction. Activity for the sake of activity
communication for the sake of communication, life for the sake of life - these are the needs of this type
personality. In contrast to the 3rd color, characteristic of individuals who light
others with their purposefulness and lust for life, 4 color as the main
inherent in individuals who light up from communication with others like a match from
touching the edge of a matchbox. 4 color positively correlates with 3-
th, 4th and 9th MMPI scales (SMIL). For individuals who prefer the 4th color, the choice
profession is more focused on the process of activity itself, which brings
satisfaction and liveliness than on the goals achieved by this activity.
With severe maladaptation, these traits develop into hysterical,
phobic and neurasthenic manifestations, that is, in those features that
characteristic of emotionally unstable individuals. For accentuated
this type of personality is characterized by a tendency to fear, exaltation
feelings, instability of interests, elements of infantilism (childishness),
inconstancy, impatience, demonstrativeness. This is self-affirmation
type "to seem" (as opposed to the desire to "be"). Features of demonstrativeness -
up to the hysteroid radical - are enhanced by the combination of 5 4 . Here they are
accompanied by signs of severe emotional immaturity,
reduced emotional control, a protective mechanism of displacement,
irrational way to achieve goals mainly by
shifting difficulties onto the shoulders of others.
Combination 4 1 reveals pronounced sensitivity to environmental
influences due to the fact that each color individually is associated in its own way with
high sensitivity to external factors. However, the choice for
the first positions of the blue color are characteristic of passive-pessimistic
personalities, and yellow - actively optimistic. In combination, they
reveal a cycloid personality type with a tendency to mood swings,
easily provoked by external causes, with rapid transitions from sadness to
exalted gaiety, hard going through loneliness,
experiencing an increased need for communication, which makes a person
The combination of 41 in III and IV positions is associated with the dependence of working capacity and
productivity of the subject from mood, with emotional involvement
and a tendency to mood swings when external circumstances easily
change the self-esteem of the individual, subject to fluctuations. The credibility of this
factor on the material of general normative screening - Р=0.79, and on the contingent
patients with borderline mental disorders - P=0.76; in the same time
among patients with neurotic disorders, a choice is often found, in
in which this pair is divided according to the +1-4 type, which means the desire to find support
in the person of significant others due to the blockage of spontaneous
self-realization. And in other combinations, where the 4th color is on one of
the last positions (i.e. -4), the color standard with a (+) sign indicates the type
compensatory reaction in response to blocked spontaneity
own "I", the impossibility of free manifestation of feelings. This
a sign during the examination should alert the psychologist, tk. he is
a harbinger of maladjustment. The significance of the 4th color (as well as other primary
colors) is determined by its placement on the first or last three
positions.
The closer to the beginning of the row the color, the greater the significance of the corresponding
needs, which determines as a leading trend a set of sustainable
personal properties, and the combination of primary colors among themselves forms
mosaic of character and the predominant style of experience that can be
described according to the principle of listing the properties inherent in each color, in
sequence corresponding to the position of each color. However, the most
only integrative integrity can be complete and reliable
the described image. To do this, an alloy of combined properties must be described
psychologist from the standpoint of a holistic view of personality, when
physiological aspects of the emotional state, psychological canvas
personal characteristics and the life situation in which he was involved
surveyed, would be fully taken into account. For more confidence in
interpretation must use arguments drawn from the data
other psychodiagnostic tests. As a last resort, each thesis
psychologist must be considered in the context of one or another alternative.
For example, the choice: 02134657 can be interpreted specifically and situationally
as a reaction of a temporary withdrawal from contacts in a balanced personality with
the predominance of inhibited traits and good control over emotions in
situations of getting used to a new social structure, which forces
abandon subjectively acceptable ways of self-realization and requires
careful waiting until it becomes well known and familiar.
Another interpretation of the same choice (individually
personal approach) reveals a personality with traits of introversion,
prone to suppression of their own identity, with pronounced passive-
defensive tendencies, heightened sense of self
dignity, focused on socially prestigious goals with
pronounced shyness, distance, caution; features are noted
rigidity, pedantry, selectivity in contacts, independence
opinions with conformity of attitudes, craving for concreteness, accuracy, sobriety
judgments, a tendency to stable attachments, balanced
good activity. However, the activity is fully manifested in
favorable, friendly and calm situation, without stressful
moments, provided that the identity of the person being examined is accepted
with sufficient respect. Thus, it is revealed
expressed need for calm conditions, allowing to realize
the need for self-assertion and respect for others, which contributes to
achieving a certain goal. The least significant process and character
activities, the most significant subjective conviction.
Both interpretations are close and do not contradict each other,
however, the former deals more with the situation, the latter with the personality.
Mixed and achromatic color tables in the first positions
determine the degree and style of maladaptation. It depends not only on the amount
signs "!", but also from the color itself.
5. Violet color in the first position of the color range is typical for
persons with difficult adaptation due to emphasized individualism.
It is statistically more common in the first positions in children and adolescents, in homosexuals; Its movement to the left was noted in women during
pregnancy, as well as in patients with whimsical thinking, originality
perceptions, interests, statements and actions. All this makes
to think about: what is generalizing for all these so different groups?
Analysis of the received data and comparison of results
psychodiagnostic studies with objective observation data
allows us to conclude that the 5th color is associated with difficult adaptation
through a general weakening of the integrative role of self-consciousness and more than others
indicators of the methodology is focused on the release of unconscious aspects
human experiences. The state of temporary maladjustment is experiencing
a woman in a difficult period of pregnancy, when her life is divided into
two. A decrease in the integrative function of consciousness can be the result of both
not yet formed personality, and as a consequence of the already
personality regression, as well as underdevelopment as a personality trait
(pronounced accentuation of character, anomaly of personality development,
psychopathic pattern). The childhood period is characterized by the fact that the personality
not yet formed, hence the weak integration of "I". Teenager is not enough
adapted, as it is going through an intermediate period between childhood and
adulthood. Naturally, abnormal sexual orientation is also associated with
impaired integration of the "I" due to the peculiarity of the sexual
self-identification and social maladaptation. personality regression
mental illness also leads to a maladaptive state.
Underdevelopment of personality, signs of emotional immaturity
reflects the psychopathic structure of the personality, which manifests itself, in particular,
weakening the control of consciousness over the emotional sphere.
Thus, as in the structure of the unformed personality of the child,
and with a weakly structured "I" of a psychopathic personality, homosexual
sual, a pregnant woman, as well as with regressive processes in a patient
schizophrenia has common features - a frustrated or undeveloped libido, that
or other degree of unsatisfactory social adaptation. Besides,
attention should be paid to the "childish", direct way of perception,
when each situation is perceived as being experienced for the first time, and
the ability to use the accumulated experience and ready-made stamps has not yet become
habit. It is known that it is the child's psyche that is characterized by a rich
imagination, which most often fades with growing up. As shows
experience, it remains intact with creative, original-minded individuals.
At the same time, psychodiagnostic research reveals in them a significant
the position of the 5th color in the ICV selection.
Difficult adaptation, close to the first steps of maladaptive
condition, which may also be associated with loosening of the adaptive
barrier in connection with a long (though not pronounced) emotional
voltage, manifested by a shift of the 5th color to the left. The more to the left is the 5th
color in the color range, the more significant this feature is, the stronger
it sounds like an indicator of the dissimilarity, non-normativeness of this person, and
reflects the difficulties of social adaptation associated with individual
the originality of a person, the originality of his views, interests and actions,
too unusual (or ridiculous, if we are talking about a patient with schizophrenia).
Again, such conclusions cannot be drawn only on the basis of the ICV, one can
only to describe the structure and style of experiencing, and to assess the degree of maladjustment in
points "!" (from 0 to 12). The quality of maladaptation, its causes, connection with
immaturity or disintegration of the personality can only be determined by
totality of data from a complete psychodiagnostic and experimental
psychological research in comparison with clinical data.
The connection of the 5th color with the maladjustment factor is confirmed by the positive
correlation of the 5th color in the first positions (1-111) with the SMIL profile, in
which there is a significant increase on the 8th, 4th or 5th scale, that is, in
profile configuration in relation to other scales 8th (or 4th or 5th)
the scale is significantly increased or is represented by one of the peaks among 3-4
leading profile peaks (P=0.81). In the group of patients with borderline neuro-
mental disorders in the presence of clinically verified
neurotic and neurosis-like disorders were found enough
frequently occurring choices in which the 5th color is positively correlated with
low index of realism of the Rorschach test or with the presence of a large
the number of original answers, which naturally influenced the interpretation
each specific case. Fairly high positive correlation
significant 5th color with the 5th scale MMPI (SMIL) - 0.43 - detects a connection
this choice with undifferentiated sexuality and problems
disturbed sexual adaptation. Thus, in all choices,
where the 5th color is significant, one can note a violation of identification, fuzziness
the boundaries of the "I", although this is caused in different cases by different reasons. This
Luscher described the phenomenon as the loss of a sense of "identity": there is
mind that the individual has a frustrated need for identity
to oneself due to the loss of a sense of identity, that is, one’s correspondence
a certain picture of one's own "I".
One of the frequently encountered choices both among the accentuated
individuals, and in the contingent of borderline disorders, is the choice 54210367.
In this choice, the 5th color reflects the instability of adaptation and reduced
control over the emotional sphere, enhances immediacy,
instability of emotions, increased sensitivity to environmental
influences, susceptibility to momentary moods, impatience,
a tendency to crowd out problems inherent in the characteristics of the 4th color,
enriching them with irrational tendencies, unbridled fantasy,
identification difficulties that increase imitative tendencies,
rich imagination, artistic mindset, traits
infantilism.
The next two positions, occupied by colors 2 and 1, are characteristic
opposite typological variant, stable personal
whose characteristics are in conflict with the previous ones (cf.
combination 2 1). In addition, the selection shows a trend towards suppressed
aggression. Thus, a demonstrative (hysterical or
hysterical) individual personality pattern, characterized by
the most contradictory properties and conflict emotional
dynamic structure. The correlation of this choice of MCV with hysteroid and
hysterical profile of SMIL is high - Р=0.87
6. Brown color reflects the problem of anxiety with the vital
(somatic) coloration, experiencing feelings of insecurity and
needs, in some cases hypochondriacal fixation, discomfort
general somatic plan or dissatisfaction of the hedonic personality,
especially +6-3. The 6th color in the third and fourth position often means
situationally determined discomfort in persons who have left at least for a short time
home, thereby reflecting an adaptive response to a change in habitual
stereotype, that is, what Luscher calls the feeling of "losing roots."
7. Black color in the first positions reveals not only a protest against
the current situation and a negative attitude towards it, but also aggressiveness.
extreme subjectivism, sense of isolation and rebelliousness, active
resistance to the environment and positively correlates with the 8th scale, often in
combination with the 4th and 9th MMPI scales (SMIL): correlation coefficient
0.54 - +0.71. Aggressiveness increases and takes on a compulsive
(uncontrollable) character with a combination of +7 +3 or +7 -3, and manifests itself as
hidden aggression with difficulty, but controlled if there is a combination of -7-3.
The same with the 4th color, its combinations with 7 (+7 +4, +7 -4) are typical for states,
associated with obsessive fears. +7 -5 or +5 +7 reveals
the most irrational, subjective position of the individualistic
personality. A. Gray color can mean: a) temporary fatigue and asthenia
as a long-term state; b) situational difficulties in interpersonal
contacts and c) introversion as a constant property of personality (although
in other cases, his position reflects autistic isolation, for example, when
choice 07536124). However, to confirm this, clinical
verification and data of other psychodiagnostic and experimental
psychological methods, the 0th color in significant positions correlates in
first turn with a 0th scale II?1, with a low 9th, an increased 8th and 2nd
scales. As already mentioned, the choice 6 0 7 reveals the state of the expressed
stress, regardless of what and to whom this stress is caused. It could be
an objectively supercomplicated situation, a neurotic reaction in an unstable
personality and response to psychotic experiences in the acute state.
The more achromatic and mixed tables (607)
is in the first positions, the higher the level of disadaptation. However, this
sharpness so exhausts all personal resources that for a long time
cannot continue. Even in cases where the situation remains difficult,
gradually there is a partial adaptation to it, in connection with which the color
the choice becomes more and more mixed. Pathocharacterological
development, personal disharmony, pronounced character accentuation,
psychopathic traits leading to difficulties in social adaptation,
manifested by different combinations of primary colors with achromatic
tables and mixed colors. At the same time, tension (or
frustration) of basic needs is compensated by secondary ones,
caused by stress, needs: the need for isolation from
excessive communication (0), in rest and physiological comfort, getting rid of
humiliation (6), in opposing one's "I" to external conditions in the form
protest (7), in flight from reality (5). Combinations of bright colors with
achromatic are comparatively more malignant than mixed ones.
If bright colors are in the first positions, then their combinations
in different combinations in accordance with their sequence reveal
leading typological features according to the degree of their predominance in
current state and human behavior. However, due to the absence
quantitative gradations that allow measuring the intensity of detected
trends, it's hard on the grounds only.
