pharmachologic effect

An antacid drug. Contains calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate, which provide fast and long-term neutralization of excess hydrochloric acid of gastric juice, thereby providing a protective effect on the gastric mucosa.

Achieving a therapeutic effect within 3-5 minutes is due to the good solubility of the tablets and the high content of calcium.

Pharmacokinetics

Suction

As a result of the interaction of Rennie with gastric juice, soluble salts of calcium and magnesium are formed in the stomach. The degree of absorption of calcium and magnesium from these compounds depends on the dose of the drug. Maximum absorption is 10% calcium and 15-20% magnesium.

breeding

Small amounts of absorbed calcium and magnesium are excreted by the kidneys. In the intestine, soluble salts form insoluble compounds that are excreted in the feces.

Pharmacokinetics in special clinical situations

In violation of kidney function, the concentration of calcium and magnesium in may increase.

Indications

- symptoms associated with increased acidity of gastric juice and reflux esophagitis: heartburn, sour belching, recurrent pain in the stomach, a feeling of fullness or heaviness in the epigastric region, dyspepsia (including those caused by errors in diet, medication, abuse alcohol, coffee, nicotine)

- dyspepsia of pregnant women.

Contraindications

Each chewable tablet/chewable tablet (orange) contains 475 mg of sucrose.

1 tablet Rennie without sugar (mint) contains 400 mg of sorbitol and can be administered to patients with diabetes mellitus.

If treatment fails, the patient should consult a doctor.

Influence on the ability to drive vehicles and control mechanisms

Does not affect.

Pregnancy and lactation

Application in childhood

The drug is contraindicated in children under 12 years of age.

The drug should be stored out of the reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25°C. Shelf life: for chewable tablets - 5 years, for chewable tablets (orange) and chewable tablets without sugar (mint) - 3 years.

Heartburn is a common symptom that worries women during childbearing. In this case, there is a need for the use of antacids, and the main criterion in choosing a drug is safety for the health of the baby and mother. Analysis of the instructions for using Rennie during pregnancy and lactation, why it is better than other drugs to eliminate heartburn.

Rennie - a remedy for heartburn

Heartburn is a dyspeptic syndrome. Occurs when there is a violation of the tone of the sphincter, which prevents the reflux of gastric juice into the esophagus.

In the early stages of pregnancy, the female body falls under the influence of progesterone, a hormone that relaxes the smooth muscles of the uterus, and with it the digestive systems. There are dyspeptic phenomena, one of them is a burning sensation in the esophagus.

In the later stages, the body adapts, but the stomach is squeezed by the growing uterus, which contributes to the onset of the symptom. To eliminate discomfort, antacids are used - drugs that neutralize the increased acidity of the juice and eliminate dyspepsia (burning, sour belching, constipation, epigastric pain).

Menthol, orange or mint flavored chewable tablets include:

  • active ingredients - calcium and magnesium carbonates;
  • flavor additives.

Therapeutic effect of tablets:

  1. Normalization of acid secretion and neutralization of its excess.
  2. Protection of the mucous membranes of the stomach and esophagus from the aggressive action of the components of digestive juices - enzymes, acids, bile acids.
  3. Elimination of symptoms of dyspepsia.
  4. Activation of regeneration processes in mucous membranes.
  5. Mild relaxing effect.

Medicinal substances act locally, in the digestive organs, without being absorbed into the blood, i.e. without having a systemic effect. The burning sensation disappears 5 minutes after taking the pill.

Rennie for pregnant women is used as a symptomatic remedy for eliminating dyspeptic conditions (acid belching, heartburn, epigastric pain) that occur as an independent symptom.

The causes of discomfort may be:

  • nutritional errors;
  • heartburn of pregnant women;
  • the use of strong tea, nicotine, coffee, certain drugs that irritate the gastric mucosa (hormones, analgesics).

Similar symptoms accompany gastroenterological pathologies:

  • gastritis;
  • reflux esophagitis disease;
  • ulcerative-erosive lesions of the membranes.

Attention! Heartburn, severe abdominal pain, vomiting, and worsening diarrhea signal serious illness, poisoning, or an intestinal infection. In this case, a doctor's consultation is necessary.

How to take pregnant

Heartburn during pregnancy is a common and unpleasant symptom associated with the action of progesterone and the pressure of an enlarged uterus on the stomach. Its manifestations are aggravated by bending forward, in a horizontal position. "Renny" is an effective antacid that fights heartburn and is allowed for pregnant women.

How to use:

  • Rennie Express in granules. The contents of one sachet should simply be poured onto the tongue without drinking water. With high sensitivity to inhalation, the drug can be placed under the tongue. Let's take 3-5 sachets per day, after meals. The maximum course of medication use is 14 days.
  • Rennie tablets. With heartburn (burning behind the sternum), you need to chew 1 or 2 tablets of the drug (you can just keep them in your mouth until completely dissolved). If necessary, it is recommended to repeat the reception no earlier than after 2 hours. The maximum allowable number of tablets per day is 11 pieces.

The drug is safe during pregnancy due to its simple composition: magnesium carbonate together with calcium carbonate. These substances are natural and necessary for the body.

When the drug is contraindicated

There are a number of contraindications and restrictions on the use of Rennie:

  • severe renal failure;
  • hypersensitivity to the components of the drug;
  • salt balance disorders (hypophosphatemia, hypercalcemia, nephrocalcinosis);
  • age up to 12 years (restrictions).

Use while breastfeeding

During the lactation period, women are also contraindicated in taking a large number of medications. This is due to the fact that through milk they can enter the body of the child and cause adverse reactions in him.

Rennie, along with alginates, successfully fights the manifestations of heartburn in women who feed their baby with breast milk. It has been proven that if the drug is used in the recommended therapeutic doses, then it does not pose a danger to either the fetus or the baby.

If an unpleasant burning sensation behind the sternum and belching occurs, you should carefully chew 2 or 1 Rennie tablet without drinking it with water. If desired, the drug can simply be held in the mouth until it is completely dissolved. It is allowed to take no more than 11 tablets per day.

The substances that make up the drug neutralize the high level of acid, which stops the manifestations of heartburn. In addition, the agent protects the gastric mucosa from the aggressive effects of HCl. The effect usually occurs 4-5 minutes after taking the drug.

Side effects

An allergic reaction to the components of the tablets is not excluded.

Prolonged excess of dosages can provoke pathological conditions caused by hypermagnesemia or hypercalcemia.

Note! If the medication is accompanied by a deterioration in well-being, a doctor's consultation is required.

What other drugs are allowed for pregnant women

The list of Rennie substitutes that are allowed when feeding and carrying a child:

  • Gaviscon Forte;
  • Gastal;
  • Phosphalugel;
  • Rutacid;
  • Almagel;
  • Maalox.

Gaviscon while breastfeeding

After childbirth, women often complain of heartburn, indigestion, belching, associated with the onset or exacerbation of chronic gastritis or gastroesophageal reflux. For mothers who are breastfeeding, treatment presents certain difficulties, since the list of drugs approved for use in lactation is limited.

Antacids are the first choice. They do not affect the course of the disease and do not eliminate its causes, but they effectively and quickly help to get rid of unpleasant symptoms and improve the condition. One of them is Gaviscon, containing alginate and sodium bicarbonate, calcium carbonate. It is available in the form of a suspension and chewable tablets.

Gaviscon is approved for use in women during pregnancy and lactation. Its safety for the fetus and newborn babies has been proven by clinical trials. The drug has only a local effect and is not absorbed into the systemic circulation. After taking the active ingredients of the drug quickly react with acidic gastric juice. They coat the walls of the stomach with a protective gel layer that prevents reflux, and also prevents irritation of the esophagus, and has a calming effect if reflux does occur.

When breastfeeding, Gaviscon can be taken as a single dose (10 ml of suspension) or in a therapeutic regimen (no more than 40 ml per day, divided into 4 doses). Drink the drug should be after meals before bedtime.

  1. Discuss in advance with your doctor what remedies to take when heartburn occurs.
  2. When buying a medicine on your own, without a medical prescription, check whether it is possible to take the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
  3. Do not rush to lie down after eating - it is recommended to maintain an upright position for half an hour to prevent the contents of the stomach from refluxing into the esophagus.
  4. You can not use soda to eliminate burning, which will subsequently cause dyspepsia, re-emission of hydrochloric acid and heartburn.
