In soy-honey sauce - an easy-to-prepare dish, you only need 30 minutes, cook in a frying pan. No special culinary skills required. It's almost impossible to screw it up. The name sounds slightly exotic for Russian cuisine, but don’t be afraid: the taste will delight you with a combination of tradition and originality. Despite the presence of honey in the ingredients, the dish will not be sweet.

Chicken legs will retain their juiciness, acquire a unique aroma, and the appearance will also be quite appetizing. In principle, it doesn’t have to be exactly the legs, you can use any parts of the chicken, you can just cut the whole chicken into portioned pieces (just don’t make the pieces very large, you want them to fry quickly). The legs for this dish are our personal choice, you can try something different. What is definitely desirable to have is a frying pan with a thick bottom, which heats up evenly and saves the dish from burning. If your frying pan also has a non-stick coating, this is an ideal option!

Need to:

  • Chicken legs – about 1 kilogram (8-9 legs)
  • Soy sauce (classic) – 6 tablespoons
  • Ketchup (without added starch, you can use spicy, you can use regular tomato) – 4 tablespoons
  • Honey (preferably, of course, liquid, not sugared) – 2 tablespoons
  • Mustard (we used regular “Russian”) – 2 teaspoons
  • Garlic – 3-4 cloves
  • Table salt - approximately 1/3 of a teaspoon (salt is generally optional and with caution, since soy sauce is quite salty, we often do not add salt, and if we do add it, no more than the specified amount)
  • Vegetable oil – 1-2 tablespoons

Preparation:


Let's prepare all the ingredients for the sauce: ketchup, honey, soy sauce, mustard, garlic - and a small bowl.


Place all the prepared ingredients for the sauce in the specified quantity (all spoons can be heaped up) into a bowl (the garlic must be passed through a special “press”, or grated on a fine grater, or, in extreme cases, chopped very finely). Mix everything thoroughly (a spoon is enough, no mixer is needed: everything mixes easily) until smooth. The sauce is ready.


Wash the chicken legs with cold running water and pat dry with a paper towel or napkin. We don’t salt, we don’t pepper, we don’t do anything with them.


Heat the frying pan well, pour a little vegetable oil into the frying pan and place the chicken legs there. Fry the legs over high heat (heat if the stove is electric) without a lid for about 5 minutes until slightly golden brown.


Turn the chicken legs over and fry them on the other side for another 5 minutes, also until golden brown.


Pour the prepared soy-honey sauce over the legs in the frying pan and stir so that the legs are “coated” with the sauce on all sides.


Reduce the heat (heat) under the frying pan to medium and simmer the chicken legs in the sauce for about another 15-17 minutes. We do not cover the pan with a lid. During the stewing process, you need to turn the legs in the pan 2 more times so that they cook evenly.

3. Measure the required amount of soy sauce into a bowl. You can take the most ordinary one, without any flavoring additives, although if you are a fan of the “mushroom” flavor, then use just such a sauce. Add mustard to the bowl, hot or not. It will give the chicken meat softness. Place the crushed garlic in a bowl as well. But before adding honey to the rest of the ingredients, you need to warm it up (if it is thick), then it will become more liquid and will be easier to stir. Honey should be heated in a water or steam bath. Mix all the ingredients of the sauce thoroughly.

4. Rub the chicken legs with spices and a little salt. Don't forget that soy sauce itself is quite salty.

5. Place the legs in a multicooker bowl greased with vegetable oil. If desired, you can place several potatoes in the same bowl.

Now it’s time for the legs - I washed them well with cool running water.

I added it to the marinade. Mixed thoroughly. This must be done so that all surfaces of the legs are covered with marinade.

The first stage is completed, the bowl should be left in the cold for at least 40 minutes, or better yet, even longer. The legs in the bowl should be stirred periodically.

After the time had passed, I greased the refractory mold with vegetable oil.


I laid out the legs in it - this needs to be done in one layer, but tightly to each other.


I also used the remaining marinade - poured it directly into the mold for the chicken legs.


I put the drumsticks in an oven preheated to 180-200 degrees and baked until done - approximately 40 minutes, but check your oven.

About 20 minutes after putting it in the oven, I took out the mold and generously greased the top of the legs with the resulting juice.


Returned it to the oven and took it out after another 20 minutes. I checked with a toothpick for readiness - if a clear liquid flows out, it means the dish is ready. Otherwise, you should increase the cooking time.

I let the finished chicken legs sit for another 10 minutes just in the pan. This is necessary so that the chicken is properly saturated with juices.

How to cook chicken legs in sweet soy sauce

  1. Mix the sauce, turmeric, chopped garlic, honey, mustard until smooth.
  2. Place the legs in a deep bowl, pour marinade over them and forget about them for half an hour. Since the sauce is salty, no salt is required. But no one forbids adding salt!
  3. Pour oil into the bottom of the multicooker bowl, place the drumsticks, and pour in the sauce.
  4. We set the “baking” mode with a timer for 40 minutes.
  5. After 20 minutes, turn the thighs over and fry again for 20 minutes.
