Ancient knowledge about women's health and menstruation. Women's cycles

Most people perceive this syndrome as inevitable: there are few women who have never experienced PMS in their lives. And there are very few who believe that it can be dealt with. However, natural and effective ways exist.

Most women are not in the best shape on the eve of their period: some PMS symptoms can seriously affect daily life. Anxiety, uncontrollable desire to eat sweets, depression, migraine ... The exact causes of all these numerous (there are about 150 of them) signs, united under the general abbreviation PMS, are not yet clear, but, no doubt, are associated with changes in hormone levels during the monthly cycle and ... lifestyle that most modern women lead.

It is scientifically proven that diet, diet and stress can exacerbate the symptoms of the syndrome, but this gives us the key to alleviating PMS. It is worth trying one hundred percent natural ways to alleviate your condition.

Menstrual pain or PMS syndrome are of a different nature, depending on the Ayurvedic constitution of a person - doshas. Most often, a person has the qualities of two or even all three doshas, but one of them still prevails. The woman herself can easily identify her by the symptoms she has to face. And then try to cope with them with the help of traditional Ayurvedic remedies.

pitta

If a woman during PMS is characterized by skin rashes, irascibility, irritability, Pitta prevails in her constitution. There may be a feeling of thirst, sweating, and if pain occurs, then a sharp, burning character. It happens that menstruation comes ahead of time, as a rule, plentiful, bright scarlet.

Recommendations. In order to "lower" pitta, it is better to give up spicy, savory dishes and delicacies. But all products of sweet, astringent and bitter taste are shown, first of all spices: turmeric, cardamom, fennel, saffron. They can be added to food or brewed as tea with the addition of warm milk. Dandelion tea and aloe juice also work very well.

Additionally. Exercise "Rabbit": sit on the floor with your buttocks on your heels, lean forward with your body, lying on your hips, stretch your arms along the floor in front of you. This exercise allows you to gently stretch the back of the body, helps to calm down and overcome irritability.

watt

For women of this type during PMS, increased anxiety, insomnia, and difficulty in bowel function are characteristic. There is a sharp change in mood - from excitement and hyperactivity to complete apathy. There are severe spasmodic pains, especially before the start of the cycle. Menstruation is short, not abundant, irregular - delays occur.

Recommendations. These days it is better to stick to a diet that "lowers" vata: avoid tonic drinks (including alcohol) and products: for example, coffee, strong tea, chocolate. Warm oily food, dairy products are best for you. Cooked garlic and onions “tame” watta very well - they can be included in dishes to the maximum.

It is good to add to your diet spices that have an anti-spasmodic effect - turmeric and nutmeg. They can not only be used in cooking, but also brewed as tea - with the addition of warm milk.

Additionally. Before going to bed - self-massage of the abdomen with warmed sesame oil, soft circular movements in a clockwise direction help relieve spasm.

kapha

This type is characterized by a feeling of heaviness, swelling. The chest swells. The pains are not pronounced, but rather a aching, pulling character. A woman with a predominance of kapha during this period often feels a desire to be pitied, she is characterized by increased sensitivity, tearfulness, but unlike vata, this emotional state is stable. Menstruation is profuse, but not as bright as in the case of pitta.

Recommendations. For kapha constitutional women, it is better to abstain from heavy oily foods and dairy products during this period. The best options are cooked vegetables and "hot" spices - these include ginger, black and red pepper, turmeric and cinnamon. Suitable aloe juice.

Additionally. Exercise "Cat": standing on four points - knees and palms - gently bend down and arch your back up in the rhythm of even, soothing breathing. This movement stabilizes the emotional state and normalizes the movement of fluid in the body, helping to cope with swelling.

Doshas in Ayurveda and women's health

What should be monthly? How many days should they go, with what intensity of discharge? Any unequivocal answer to this question will be wrong - from the point of view of Ayurveda.

In Ayurveda, it is determined that each person is born with his original constitution, which is inherent in him until the end of his life. This innate nature, or your innate constitution, is also called prakriti in Sanskrit.

Ayurveda also understands that under influence from outside, a state arises, which is denoted by the Sanskrit word vikriti - "that which includes prakriti." Vikriti is a transitional state of the body and mind, i.e. the state of the moment. If I, say, catch a cold, this is a temporary state of imbalance, which is not characteristic of my innate constitution (prakriti). This does not mean a change in my prakriti - prakriti remains unchanged throughout life.

The basis of Ayurveda is the principle that you know your innate constitution and take measures to prevent the development of an imbalance. But if, nevertheless, an imbalance occurs, then it is the understanding of your constitution that helps you decide on the choice of treatment methods.

Your individuality is determined in Ayurveda by the dominance of any of the three natural forces in your body. These three principles or forces have been discovered as a result of observing nature for hundreds of years. These are not artificial, theoretical or speculative forces. Regardless of your understanding or misunderstanding of these forces, they control our environment and the entire universe.

These three forces are movement, transformation and connection. In Sanskrit, they are denoted by the words vata (that which moves), pitta (that which transforms, changes) and kapha (that which binds, forms). Traditionally, these three forces are called doshas. The combinations of the three doshas form the ten basic types of constitutions that people correspond to.

The main qualities of the three doshas

Cold, dry, light, changeable, fast.
Like the wind

Hot, oily, light, penetrating, mobile.
Like fire.

Cold, oily, heavy, steady, slow.
Like water.

10 different types of physical constitution

Vata women are lean and either tall or short. They do not gain weight and have little adipose tissue. They have thin arms and legs, dry hair and skin. Their complexion is darkish, and they can tan well, although they often quickly lose their tan. Their eyes are usually brown or dark. Circulation is often weak, as is the immune system. Menses are often irregular and scanty, accompanied by sharp pains or cramps.

With the predominance of vata in the constitution, if it is in balance, the periods between periods are usually shorter - 24-27 days, lasting from 2 to 4 days, pass calmly, painlessly and without emotional fluctuations, with little bleeding. The first day of menstruation may be marked by fatigue.

Disorder or excitation of this dosha causes depression, stress, fear, restlessness and anxiety. Violations occur throughout the body and psyche. Vata is the cause of all nervous disorders. Menstruation becomes irregular, with sharp pains and cramps before the period and during the first days, and the pain may be debilitating. And depression before menstruation is common. In conditions of severe stress or depression, menstruation may stop altogether. Vata imbalance can also cause vaginal dryness. Before and after the onset of menstruation, fatigue is usually felt.

Pitta women are of average height and build. Until the age of 36–39, they usually do not gain excess weight, but even after that they do not get much better. They have a lot of adipose tissue - enough to give them shape, but not too much. Hair somewhat oily, usually blond, or graying rather early, prone to dandruff.

The skin is normal oily, sensitive, prone to inflammation and acne, even in adulthood. The complexion can be light or reddish, but in both cases they tan easily. The eyes are usually light colors, blue, green or gray. They have good circulation and usually good immunity. Menstruation is often profuse, with dark red blood, sometimes accompanied by pain. There is a predisposition to vaginal or urinary infections.

With the predominance of Pitta in the constitution, if it is in balance, menstruation is regular, but more abundant than in other women, but painless and without emotional irritation, the duration of menstruation is average - 3-5 days.

Pitta disorder causes self-doubt, irritability, anger, the desire to manipulate people, as well as envy and jealousy. Pitta heat causes all kinds of infections and inflammations in the body and mind. If no action is taken, agitated pitta can “burn” the spirit.

Menstruation becomes heavy, with large blood loss, which can lead to anemia, increased fatigue and loss of energy. There may be pain before menstruation, but not as sharp as that of vata. Before the onset of menstruation, a woman may experience a deterioration in mood and irritability. The onset of menstruation brings her great relief, but at the same time it can bring a feeling of great fatigue.

According to their physique, kapha-type women are larger than women of the other two constitutions. They may be taller or shorter, but they have thick bones and bodies. Physically, this is the strongest type of people. They may have a normal or dense body, but they always put on weight easily and therefore must be conscious of their culinary preferences all their lives. They tend to have thicker arms and legs than Vata and Pitta women. They have the best - slightly oily, but with a good sheen - skin and hair. Their complexion is light or whitish, but they tan well and evenly and keep their tan well. The eyes can be any color, although most often brown. Blood circulation is slow, but strong immunity.

Menstruation is regular, with an average amount of blood, usually completely or almost painless. If pain is felt, it is dull and weak. They are characterized by a predisposition to the formation of stagnation, which can lead to fibrous and other tumors.

If kapha in the body is in balance, women of this type have regular and light menstruation, without pain and without emotional fluctuations, but the longest - from 5 to 7 days. A kapha disorder causes huge emotional demands as well as a feeling of lack of love and confidence. Representatives of this type direct their emotions inward and, due to their accumulation, destroy themselves. These accumulations can be manifested by obesity, tumors - including fibrous ones - cysts, etc.

As a rule, they try not to express their feelings, which leads to the development of destructive habits. Strong emotions can disrupt periods, although they are usually regular. Most often they suffer more emotionally, with strong outbursts of guilt, inferiority and worthlessness and, most importantly, with the feeling that no one loves them.

Before the onset of menstruation, water often accumulates in the body. Due to fluid retention in the body, problems with the mammary glands can begin. Kapha-type women are prone to physical and mental stagnation and inertia, because of which they lose vitality.

4. Watt/Pitta

These women are usually not as thin as pure vata women, but may have a vata body type. The skin tends to show all the signs of pitta: it is oily and often prone to pimples or redness. Hair can be either thin and dry (vata), oily and dandruff (pitta), or both doshas.

These signs will help you identify the combination of vata and pitta. Vata women have poor circulation, while Pitta women have good circulation. As a rule, the features of vata/pitta women reflect the qualities of both doshas. Menstruation irregular, sometimes painful, with uneven bleeding, sometimes copious, sometimes scanty. When the doshas are balanced, menstruation is most often regular, with normal bleeding.

The imbalance of these doshas causes emotional instability and a tendency to strong and passionate outbursts. Menstruation becomes irregular, inflammation and infections often occur. It happens that the breasts or nipples become inflamed. Vaginal dryness appears, especially in later periods of life. Before and during menstruation, pain can occur, ranging from acute to general.

5. Vata/Kapha

The physique of these women is either vata-type, or with the introduction of kapha properties. They tend to be shorter, not taller. As a rule, if the constitution is dominated by vata, then the physique is more in line with the vata type. A good indicator is the skin: is it oily or dry? A slender figure, oily skin without inflammation is a sure sign of a vata/kapha constitution.

Representatives of this type often have poor circulation and cold hands and feet. Menstruation is more regular and less painful, with minimal bleeding. When the doshas are balanced, menstruation in women of this type is regular, with little bleeding.

The imbalance of these doshas can lead to deep, self-destructive depression, driven inward by feelings of inferiority or guilt. Women of this type have emotional outbursts, but in general their bad mood most often has no real reason.

Left alone, they may feel rejected or worse. However, in the company of other people, they feel uncomfortable. Periods are irregular and in case of deep depression may stop for a while. Depending on the emotional state, which is unstable in women of this type, the formation of excess mucus is possible. The pain is migrating, deep and dull.

6. Pitta/Vata

These women have a fairer complexion and perhaps a slimmer figure, but oilier skin and hair than the vata/pita types. They are more prone to redness of the skin and the formation of acne and tan faster in the sun. They tend to have more heavy periods with fewer irregularities, but are more prone to vaginal infections and irritations. When the doshas are balanced, their periods are regular, with moderate bleeding.

Disorders of these doshas can cause feelings of irritation and anger, as well as a tendency to strong emotional outbursts. Representatives of this type tend to blame others for everything and make an elephant out of a fly. They are prone to infections and inflammations of the vagina and bladder, and the infections can travel and be difficult to treat. Their emotions are as fickle as their periods, although the number of days between cycles can always be the same.

If there is pain, then it is more general and intensifies before the menstruation itself and immediately after it begins. Fluctuating between anger and frustration can be accompanied by depression.

7. Pitta/Kapha

The body of these women is strong, well muscled and usually larger, but not necessarily fuller, than other Pitta types. This is a very good constitution for sports, especially athletics (although physical education is good for all people of all types of constitutions). They may have problems with oily hair or skin and sometimes experience inflammatory problems.

They have good circulation. Menstruation is copious rather than scanty, but regular and almost or completely painless. Sometimes infections are possible, for example, caused by yeast-like fungi.

When the doshas are balanced, menstruation is regular, with even bleeding.

The disorder of these doshas can cause irritation and frustration in a woman. Representatives of this type tend to hide most of their emotions, but if someone or something provokes them, these emotions may well break out. They are prone to yeast infections and other inflammatory infections with secretions. Their cycles are regular in time, but they usually pass against the backdrop of strong emotions and anxiety. Severe bleeding is also possible.

8. Kapha/vata

These women have a larger physique than other representatives of the dual types, including vata as one of the two predominant doshas. Their skin and hair are good, the skin may be pale and sometimes dry. Vata is manifested, as a rule, with a physical or mental imbalance. Menses regular, with little discharge, sometimes painful; there may be congestion or accumulations such as fibroids or cysts.

When the doshas are balanced, menstruation is regular, bleeding is not heavy.

9. Kapha/Pitta

These women are larger than other dual types with pitta. They are strong, if physically prepared, and very hardy. Due to the combination of pitta and kapha, they have better blood circulation than pure kapha women. Menses are regular and more profuse than in pure kapha and are usually painless, but there is a tendency to infections, such as those caused by yeasts, and congestion.

When the doshas are balanced, their periods are regular, bleeding is not heavy.

Due to the disorder of these doshas, anger often arises inside, which can sometimes pour out on others. A self-destructive state often lurks within and there is an accumulation of frustration with life and/or love. Before the onset of menstruation, the accumulation of water in the body is characteristic. In the vagina, there is often an excess of secretions and inflammation. Menstruation, as a rule, is regular, but is not accompanied by emotional stability and does not differ in the uniformity of bleeding, which is more often profuse.

Note that when the doshas are in balance, in all women, no matter what constitutional type they belong to, menstruation is regular, smooth and calm, except that in the first day or two the woman sometimes feels tired. But when the balance of the doshas is disturbed, women of any type experience certain problems.

Critical days (CD). Ayurvedic advice.

In addition to the big lunar cycle, every woman has her own lunar cycle.

Menstruation in a woman is a powerful cleansing of bad karma accumulated during the month. As a result, women live longer than men. For a man, karma is cleansed during a haircut.

Correct behavior in KD is the basis for the well-being of the family.

KD is a chance for a woman to start life anew every month.

In a healthy woman, the cycle is 28 days, monthly no more than 4 days. Longer periods arise as a result of putrefactive thoughts, the closure of one's emotions. If too abundant, emotional isolation is characteristic, if scarce - dryness, unwillingness to give birth to children, to give women's love.

It is important to study yourself, understand what is happening to you, plan your life and have your lunar calendar at hand. To do this, you need a calendar, colored pens.

I. 1-4 days.

The first day of menstruation is the first day of the personal lunar calendar. Marked in red.

Precepts for critical days, which allow a woman to cleanse the karma of not only one month, but also the previous ones. The effect is very strong and more than compensates for the inconvenience of 4 days:

1) on the days of menstruation, it is undesirable to contact with other people, or limit it as much as possible. Do not visit the temple, do not look at the deities. These days we are shedding bad karma when communicating.

2) do not come into contact with food - do not buy, do not cook, because. we desecrate them. If a husband eats the food prepared by his wife during her period, he is actually eating her period. As a result, he becomes impotent, he treats his wife especially coldly, inexplicable irritation and hostility arises. 80% of cheating husband arises from non-compliance with this principle.

The wife needs to take care in advance that the husband and family are not hungry. Ideally, if one of the other women in the family (daughter, mother) or husband (often in families of devotees) cooks the wife in the KD. If the husband insists that the wife cook these days, then you need to cook. The responsibility will fall on him. If a woman has to cook, then in no case should you cook legumes. When cooking, do not come into direct contact with food.

3) in a CD, a woman needs to eat separately, not at a common table. It’s good if she doesn’t cook for herself, but eats someone else’s food.

4) the main occupations in the KD are rest, listening to lectures, reading spiritual literature, an enhanced prayer rule, doing housework, cleaning the house. You can knit, visit exhibitions, walk with children, even with strangers. We will not desecrate them.

5) for non-vegetarians, exclude meat, fish, eggs from the KD diet (strong anti-aging effect). For devotees on the first day of menstruation, it is good to follow a cleansing mono-diet - eat only fruits, or something from dairy (milk, fermented baked milk, kefir). It is good to consume liquid food for a rejuvenating effect. Your CD should ideally be done without legumes, on light, pleasant, warm, soft foods. During these days, you need to learn how to get positive emotions not from food.

If a woman works, then these days do not eat with the team, do not serve, do not care for employees.

The mood during these 4 days is often unimportant, like that of a criminal upon repentance.

6) to sleep separately from the husband in the CD, or at least on a separate bed linen. First, explain your behavior to your husband. Sleeping during the day is allowed.

7) in the KD, limit close communication with her husband, kiss less, hug, in no case have sex

every day you need to change all the clothes that come into contact with the body, fold and wash them separately. These days you can’t dress very beautifully so as not to arouse the desire of men. This is especially true for working women, who should not attract attention with their appearance.

9) Do not use tampons, otherwise inflammation is inevitable. This is a cleansing process, and we do not allow impurities to come out.

10) In the CD you can not plan important events

11) Be sure to rinse your eyes with rose water or a decoction of barberry after the end of the AC - this cleanses the subtle body. It is also beneficial to carry out this procedure every day.

12) used pads should not be thrown into the trash in the house, immediately taken out, otherwise the woman will face very adverse consequences.

On the 5th day of the cycle, in the morning after washing, you need to wear something white (blouse, dress, bow) as a sign of the completion of the cleansing process.

II. 5 – 11 days outline in your calendar in green, the color of Mercury. Very favorable for contacts. During this period, a woman is herself.

During this period, a woman makes crazy purchases, increased attention to appearance. The biggest danger is an unfavorable acquaintance with a partner in the lower chakras. A woman has an increased interest in men. I like all men, especially those who are far from ideal. Flirts, betrayals, madness occur during this period. Attracts rough energy. The woman becomes aggressive towards all women and walks with her tail up in front of men. During this period, there is an increased risk of violence, crime, scandals.

Often during this period, a woman improves good relations with her husband, she is very affectionate, charming. For a married woman, a good period, the husband is satisfied. If a girl is unmarried and has no knowledge, this period can be tragic. Looking for a partner in discos and disentangles the consequences.

This is a phase of deep depression - the main goal of life has not been achieved. At this stage, suicide is possible. The woman is irritable, sad.

Work on yourself during this period consists in careful observation of yourself. After 6 months of keeping such a calendar and observing ourselves, we ourselves begin to feel these periods intuitively.

Conclusion from the calendar: a woman eats by herself only one week a month. She is completely unsuited to full-time employment at the enterprise.

What to do with it:

We study ourselves, observe ourselves, make many discoveries and understand what to work on. We will become softer, better, more tender, health will improve,

We do not part with the amulet with the image of our patron, especially his feet,

Exercise regularly, eat right

An earlier menopause is a deepening into old age.

Painful periods are signs of problems on the subtle plane, as a rule, not from past lives. This might be different fears, they need to be analyzed. The following chain can be traced: pain - spasm - tension - anger. If a woman is soft by nature, then menstruation is painless. Menstruation can be painful if the woman is slovenly, dirty at home, has a rough speech.

Menstruation should be washed off simply with water, otherwise severe intoxication in the body

Methods for reducing pain - a week before the KD, anoint the palms (lower part) and heels with iodine. Drink iodine-active, observe the result.

Before KD, it is good to drink sage, carrot juice or carrots, fermented milk products. Eat sprouted wheat at lunchtime (2 teaspoons)

During this period, a woman's sugar level decreases, so you want sweets, give preference to natural sweets.

Abortions affect the health and fate of a woman in the most unfavorable way. For a woman who has had abortions, her astrological chart (horoscope) will no longer coincide with the events in her life.

If a woman has a spiral, it means that she has had a large number of abortions. If a woman wants to prevent pregnancy, then it is better to use pills that create an unfavorable environment for conception (for example, Pharmatex). Although their use also has consequences for health.

A woman who wants to get rid of the consequences of abortion should sincerely repent of her deed and keep strict fasts on Ekadashi, which are designed to cleanse such karma.

In Ayurveda, the treatment of diseases of the female reproductive system is allocated to a special area of gynecological medicine. These diseases usually manifest as menstrual irregularities. Serious menstrual disorders can be the result of hormonal disorders.

The menstrual cycle is an indicator of a woman. It is also important for the definition of the constitution. Regular menstruation close to the time of the full moon, flowing smoothly without pain and tension, with balance of emotions, is a sign of good health. However, most women experience some difficulty with menstruation at some point in their lives.

This article will also cover pregnancy and infertility treatment.

Menstruation and constitution

In Vata women, menses are usually scanty, dark red or brownish, somewhat dry and old. Menstrual cramps can be quite severe with lower back pain and headaches. The state of depression and heightened sensitivity may be accompanied by a feeling of fear, anxiety and sleep disturbance. During menstruation, vitality decreases and the body's resistance may decrease. Constipation, intestinal gas, or bloating may occur. The walls of the vagina are dry. Menstruation, as a rule, does not last long, only 3-5 days, and is irregular.

Women of the Pitta type tend to have heavy periods because Pitta is related to the blood. The discharge is dark, red or purple, warm, sometimes clotted. Often, menstruation is accompanied by fever, burning sensation, redness of the eyes and face, the appearance of skin rashes or acne. There is diarrhea or loose stools (most often yellow). Emotions are dominated by anger, irritability and irascibility. The average duration of menstruation is 5-7 days.

With a kapha constitution, menstruation is moderate, continuous, lasting for a week or more. Allocations are pale, light red, often with an admixture of mucus. There is a feeling of heaviness and fatigue, drowsiness, increased mucus production and salivation, there may be mild nausea or even vomiting, chest swelling, swelling, especially in the lower legs. Sentimental and nostalgic emotional experiences prevail.

In women of dual constitutional types, the symptoms of the respective doshas are combined.

Poor nutrition, stress, overwork, excessive exercise can disrupt the flow of menstruation. One of the reasons for such violations is the modern fashion for a slim figure. Insufficient nutrition interferes with blood production and impairs menstruation. In the premenstrual period, women need rest and rest, intense stress should be avoided. Some asanas are helpful.

Treatment of menstrual disorders
In mild cases, menstrual disorders are treated using the same therapeutic methods that are used to balance the dominant dosha in the individual constitution. Delays and other menstrual disorders can occur with various gynecological diseases. Treatment is usually aimed at inducing and regulating menstruation with menstrual herbs: turmeric and saffron, pennyroyal and motherwort. To relieve pain and calm emotions, anti-spasmodic and nerve-strengthening herbs are useful: fennel, asafoetida, valerian. With a breakdown, special tonics for the reproductive system are needed.

Tonics for women
Since blood loss usually weakens vitality, in most cases, herbal tonics are useful for women. They are used in the same way as vitamins or mineral supplements. Shatavari-based formulations, Ayurvedic herbal jam Chyavanprash, various Chinese preparations are usually recommended.

The main Ayurvedic tonic for the female reproductive system is shatavari ( Asparagus racemosus). It has excellent nourishing and softening properties and soothes the heart. Aloe juice is very useful, which simultaneously cleanses and nourishes tissues. In Chinese medicine, tang kwei is used as the main tonic. Angelica sinensis) - a plant that has a monthly, restorative blood and antispasmodic effect.

It should be borne in mind that the abuse of strong menstrual drugs - such as pennyroyal, tansy or rue - can cause heavy bleeding and other menstrual disorders. These herbs are contraindicated during pregnancy as they may cause miscarriage, but their use for this purpose is not recommended because they are not effective enough for this purpose and cause side effects.

One of the properties of a spicy or spicy taste is to eliminate congestion and increase blood flow. Therefore, many widely used spices are used to induce menstruation, which in addition often have an anti-spasmodic effect. The best spice in this case is turmeric, but other spices are also good: cinnamon, ginger, red and black pepper, basil, dill, fennel, cardamom, asafoetida. 1/4 to 1/2 tsp. these spices should be taken with 1-2 tsp. aloe juice 2 times a day for any complications in the course of menstruation.

Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS)

This concept refers to a number of violations of the flow of menstruation: the absence, delay or premature onset of menstruation, premenstrual headaches, cramps, breast swelling, etc. In a narrower sense, PMS refers to emotional or nervous disorders associated with menstruation, which manifest themselves in the form of irritability, rapid mood swings, feelings of depression or anxiety, etc.

For the treatment of mental manifestations of PMS, Yoga therapy methods using sattvic (mind-harmonizing) foods and herbs may be useful. Precious stones that have the property of calming the mind work well. Pearls and moonstone (moon stones) pacify the mind and heart, strengthen the female reproductive system. Pearl is considered the stone of women. It enhances the feminine both physically and mentally.

PMS can be associated with any of the three doshas, but while primarily manifesting as mental and nervous disorders, PMS is usually still a vata disorder. Emotional arousal can disrupt the normal production of hormones that regulate the menstrual cycle. Provoking factors include: poor nutrition, overwork, long trips, communication difficulties, repressed emotions and other stresses.

Types of PMS
Vata-type PMS is characterized by anxiety, depression, insomnia, constipation, headache, and severe painful spasms. Nervousness, agitation, absent-mindedness appear, dizziness, ringing in the ears, fainting are possible. A woman's mood can change quickly, and it can be difficult for others to please her. She may experience excitement or a feeling of uselessness, a feeling of cold, thirst and dryness of the skin. She may feel like she is dying. Thoughts of suicide may appear, but with the onset of menstruation, all this passes. In many cases, there is an irregular or delayed menstruation. The discharge is usually scanty, with a brownish or dark tint. It is characterized by a short, only a few days, duration of menstruation, with increased pain at dawn and at sunset (vata time).

Pitta-type PMS is manifested by irritability, anger, the desire to argue, and sometimes outbursts of rage. There may be diarrhea, thirst, sweating, chilliness, a feeling of heat in the upper body. New rashes and acne may appear on the skin. Menstrual flow is usually copious or even excessive, with clots. Menses usually start early, and spotting may occur between periods. Feeling worse at noon and at midnight - the time of pitta.

Kapha-type PMS is manifested by a breakdown, a feeling of heaviness, tearfulness, sentimentality, the need to be loved; however, mood variability is not so pronounced. Susceptibility to colds and flu increases, mucus secretion increases, there is no appetite, nausea is observed, the chest swells, swelling may appear. Menses may be late, the discharge may be pale or whitish, clotted or mucus-laden. Manifestations of PMS are intensified in the early morning or early evening - the time of kapha.

Differentiated treatment of PMS
For vata constitutions or vata PMS, a vata-reducing diet with tonic foods, garlic, and cooked onions is indicated. Before going to bed, you can take menstrual spices in combination with anti-spasmodic spices (such as turmeric and nutmeg) with warm milk. Warm sesame oil is applied to the head and lower abdomen. They can also lubricate the vaginal area or douche with emollient herbs, such as shatavari. Stimulants are excluded: coffee, tea, tobacco, alcohol, narcotic substances. Useful red gems that help restore blood: red coral, garnet, ruby, heliotrope (bloodstone), as well as white stones (pearl, moonstone, etc.), which increase the amount of fluid in the body. The treatment uses sweet and spicy taste combined with herbs such as aloe (juice), shatavari, ashwagandha, licorice, turmeric, musta, dill, fennel, valerian, jatamamsi, asafoetida, etc. A simple and good composition can be prepared by taking 3 parts shatavari and 1 part each turmeric, cinnamon, valerian and licorice. Chinese medicine herbs include tang kwei, rehmannia, lactiferous peony, and chuan xion. Of the herbs known in the West, they use pennyroyal, rosemary, chamomile, valerian, gelonias, comfrey root, and others with menstrual, nerve-strengthening, and tonic properties.

Pitta women require a combination of a pitta-reducing diet with the use of spices that have a monthly effect: turmeric, coriander, fennel, saffron, safflower. Hot spices should be avoided. Pearls, moonstone and red coral help. Incense (jasmine, rose, sandalwood, gardenia) and fresh flowers are very useful. Ayurvedic herbs include aloe (juice), shatavari, turmeric, musta, saffron, manjishta, simplokos, brahmi and bhringaraj, as well as aloe wine. A composition of three parts of shatavari and one part of turmeric, musta and brahmi is useful. From herbs of Chinese medicine, dan shen, motherwort, peach pits, safflower, volodushka, must and mint are used. From the means of Western herbal medicine, nettle, yarrow, red raspberry, black cohosh, skullcap, initial letter are effective. In many cases, dandelion tea works well.

With a kapha constitution, a kapha-reducing diet is needed. Heavy or oily foods should be avoided. You can use spices without restrictions, including all hot, and light vegetables. From Ayurvedic herbs, aloe (juice), turmeric, musta, cinnamon, black pepper, pippali, ginger and calamus are used, from drugs - trikatu. From Chinese medicine, we can recommend chuan xion, safflower, fu lin, alysma, and from herbs known in the West: pennyroyal, rosemary, myrrh, red pepper, ginger, cinnamon and other herbs with a monthly effect.

Amenorrhea

Amenorrhea - delayed or absent periods, is treated in much the same way as PMS. Deficiency predominates in amenorrhea because amenorrhea is a prolonged and recurring condition usually associated with vata.

Causes of amenorrhea include hypothermia, poor nutrition, anemia, malnutrition, dehydration, uterine displacement, hormonal imbalances, emotional trauma, etc. Amenorrhea can occur as a result of a severe or debilitating disease such as diabetes. It may be associated with constipation and the factors that cause it.

Treatment of amenorrhea
Menstrual herbs are special remedies for the treatment of amenorrhea. As a rule, tonics are used along with them to restore the reproductive system. In most cases, myrrh is effective, especially in the form of a tincture.

First of all, a vata-reducing or tonic diet is prescribed: dairy products, meat, nuts, oils, whole grains and other nutritious foods. Of great importance are food supplements containing iron, or Ayurvedic preparations from iron ash. Warm sesame oil is recommended to lubricate the lower abdomen or douching. You can use mild laxatives in small doses (composition of triphala, aloe juice, castor oil).

In the treatment of amenorrhea caused by cold, spicy herbs are used: ginger, turmeric, black pepper, cinnamon, rosemary, trikatu composition. In Western herbal medicine, fresh ginger and pennyroyal taken equally (30 g of herbs per 0.5 l of water, taken 1 cup 3 times a day) are successfully used.

Ayurvedic herbs for delayed menstruation caused by vata include asafoetida, musta, myrrh, ashwagandha, shatavari, atmagupta, black and white musali.

A good simple preparation can be prepared with shatavari, ashwagandha (2 parts of each herb), turmeric and ginger (1 part each) at the rate of 1 tsp. powder in a cup of warm water.

In Chinese medicine, the reason for the absence of menstruation is considered to be stagnation of blood, for example, due to its weakness, and chuan xion, dan shen, tang kwei, motherwort are used for treatment.

Additionally, monthly herbs used in Western herbal medicine are recommended: hoof, tansy, rue, mitchell. They work best when combined with emollient and nourishing herbs such as comfrey root, calamus, marshmallow, and American ginseng for low energy.

The reason for the delay in kapha-type menstruation is stagnation in the body and general lethargy. For treatment, you can also use strong warming spices - ginger, cinnamon, red and black pepper, trikatu compounds. For the most part, monthly herbs, such as pennyroyal, are effective. Both in this case and in pitta-type amenorrhea, motherwort, also used in Chinese and Western herbal medicine, is a good remedy.

Pitta delayed menstruation responds well to turmeric and saffron taken in warm milk. Rose, musta, dandelion and other cooling menstrual remedies are also good. In more persistent cases of amenorrhea, liver or blood disorders may occur, and efforts should be directed to the treatment of which.

Dysmenorrhea

Dysmenorrhea is a complicated, usually painful cramping, during menstruation. Much of what has already been said about menstrual disorders still applies here.

Most often, dysmenorrhea occurs in women with a vata constitution, which may be due to dryness of the uterus, insufficiency of secretions, or spasm of the smooth muscles of the uterus. Often, dysmenorrhea is accompanied by bloating, gas, or constipation.

In women belonging to the Pitta or Kapha type, dysmenorrhea is due to stagnation of blood. Pitta-type dysmenorrhea is accompanied by a burning sensation, loose stools or diarrhea, and kapha-type dysmenorrhea is accompanied by swelling or congestion of mucus.

Treatment of dysmenorrhea
For the treatment of dysmenorrhea, along with menstrual herbs, herbs with anti-spasmodic, muscle relaxing and analgesic properties are used. For painful cramps during menstruation, musta is used as a special remedy in Ayurveda and Chinese medicine, regardless of the type of constitution. Myrrh and guggul are also useful.

Vata dysmenorrhea is characterized by severe colic, constipation, bloating, flatulence, dry skin, headaches, restlessness, and palpitations.

A Vata-reducing diet is applied. The lower abdomen is warmed and smeared with warm sesame oil. Douche with sesame oil or shatavari, inside take turmeric, nutmeg, asafoetida, ginger, valerian and jatamamsi. These herbs are best taken with emollient herbs such as shatavari or licorice, which have a calming and hormonal (cortisone-like) effect. Of the drugs, formulations based on shatavari are recommended.

Corydalis, dan shen and chuan xion, tang kwei and lactiflora peony are good Chinese medicine herbs, which relieve spasms of the smooth muscles of the uterus. Western herbal remedies include chamomile, lady's slipper, and evening primrose.

Pitta-type dysmenorrhea requires the use of nerve-strengthening herbs with cooling energy, such as brahmi, skullcap, passionflower, and hops, and kapha-type dysmenorrhea, nerve-strengthening, anti-spasmodic herbs, such as ginger, calamus, myrrh, guggul, cinnamon and nutmeg.

menorrhagia

Menorrhagia is profuse, excessive menstrual bleeding, and the discharge lasts, as a rule, longer than usual, and there is also small bleeding between periods. The cause of this disorder is usually a high level of pitta, which causes the blood to heat up. There may be other types of bleeding, for example, the presence of blood in the stool, etc.

Among the causes of menorrhagia are the abuse of hot, spicy, sour or salty foods, smoking, drinking alcohol, suppression of emotions (anger, resentment, enmity), as well as abortion, incomplete miscarriage, cervical erosion, endometritis, polyps and tumors, the use of intrauterine contraceptives and contraceptive pills. Sometimes menorrhagia is a manifestation of infectious or cancerous diseases, so a thorough medical examination is necessary for menorrhagia.

Treatment of menorrhagia
The diet should be aimed at reducing pitta; any hot and oily foods are excluded. It should be cool, avoid physical exertion, exposure to heat and the sun. When bleeding, an ice pack can be applied to the lower abdomen.

Astringent and hemostatic herbs are used, such as red raspberry or manjishta. If the condition does not improve, tonic herbs are added. Immediately after the bleeding subsides, they switch to tonics alone, as in the treatment of anemia.

Of the Ayurvedic herbs, Ashok, Symplokos, Ashwagandha, Arjuna, Shatavari, Aloe, Amalaki, Bhringaraj are used. An excellent remedy is shatavari and manjishta in equal parts. Useful wine from Ashok.

From Chinese medicine, wormwood, agar-agar, pseudo-ginseng are used, from herbs known in Western herbal medicine: agrimony, nettle, yarrow, blackhead and mullein.

Leukorrhea (leukorrhea)

Leukorrhea is manifested by altered vaginal discharge. The natural acidic environment in the vagina protects it from the effects of pathogenic factors. When the acidity of the environment is violated, the reproduction of various types of bacteria, fungi and protozoa begins. That is why douching with acidic solutions helps with whites, for example, with the addition of vinegar, yogurt, or herbal decoctions with acidophilic additives.

In Ayurveda, leukorrhea is believed to be most often caused by an imbalance of kapha (excess mucus), but imbalances in other doshas can also cause it. Treatment should be aimed not so much at eliminating the pathogenic factor as at restoring the balance of the corresponding dosha.

Vata-type leucorrhoea is brownish, sticky and dry, with severe soreness.

Pitta-type leucorrhoea - yellowish, with an unpleasant odor, sometimes with an admixture of pus or blood, with a burning sensation.

Kapha-type leucorrhoea - white, mucous, thick, copious; accompanied by a feeling of heaviness and lethargy.

Leukorrhea is mainly promoted by the same factors that increase kapha: the abuse of sweet, sour, salty, heavy and fatty foods, in particular dairy products and sugars, also non-observance of personal hygiene, excessive sexual activity, the use of antibiotics, infectious and venereal diseases.

Treatment of leukorrhea
A feature of the treatment is the need for douching with the use of Ayurvedic herbs: geukhera, turmeric, aloe juice and licorice. Treatment is aimed at restoring the balance of the dosha that caused the disorder.

For vata-type leucorrhoea, yogurt or emollient herbs, such as shatavari or licorice, are used for douching. Inside take ashwagandha, shatavari and preparations based on them.

Pitta leucorrhea is treated with bitter herbs: aloe powder, katuk, geuchera, koptis, golden seal, and gentian. To purify the blood, aloe juice, turmeric, barberry are taken orally.

For douching with kapha-type whites, bitter and pungent herbs are used: aloe powder, geuhera, calamus, zanthoxylum and ginger. Inside take the composition of trikatu with honey.

Of the herbs used in the West, wormwood, tansy, rue, geuhera root, oak bark, uzneya, golden seal, and echinacea are effective. The collection of these herbs is boiled in water (60 g per 0.5 l) for 20 minutes, then the solution is filtered and used for douching (morning and evening). In acute conditions, the "golden seal", sarsaparil and zanthoxylum with the addition of geukhera are well helped.

Menopause

Menopause changes a woman's life. At this time, due to a change in hormone production, a woman's health may be affected. In the treatment, special herbs are used to strengthen and rejuvenate the female reproductive system, which are used together with agents that calm emotions and help regulate hormonal levels.

Since menopause indicates the approach of old age, a period of life correlated with vata, it is accompanied by symptoms of high vata: nervousness, anxiety, insomnia, depression. Accordingly, the treatment is aimed primarily at reducing vata. Herbs that have a tonic effect on the reproductive system are useful, including aloe (juice), shatavari, saffron, atmagupta, ashwagandha, which are preferably taken in the form of milk decoctions. Of the herbs of Chinese medicine, such tonics as tang kwei, rehmannia, lactic-flowered peony, dereza are good.

An excellent tool that prolongs the youth of the female reproductive organs is aloe juice. The drug chyavanprash is also useful, which has a general rejuvenating effect.

Menopausal disorders of the pitta type are characterized by anger, irritability and irascibility; hot flashes become more frequent and intensified. Treatment is aimed at reducing pitta. Aloe juice is used along with tonics based on shatavari, saffron in the form of a milk broth.

Kapha-type climacteric disorders are manifested by a feeling of heaviness, drowsiness, weakening of the will to live, weight gain, water retention in the body. Treatment is aimed at reducing kapha. Hot spices are used, such as trikatu with aloe juice.

Uterus removal

Along with the reproductive uterus, it also performs other functions: it is an organ responsible for emotionality and creative self-expression. After its removal, emotional balance is often disturbed, a feeling of defenselessness arises. Hormonal imbalance can lead to a weakening of the body's vitality, metabolic disorders and weight gain. All this increases the level of Vata and leads to depression, mental instability, unreasonable fears. The balance of other doshas (usually the dosha that prevails in the individual constitution) may also be disturbed. In women belonging to the Pitta type, bouts of anger and irritability intensify, hot flashes appear. With a kapha constitution, signs of accumulation of water and mucus in the body will increase, fatigue and sentimental moods will become more pronounced.

The general treatment consists in the use of tonics for the reproductive system: shatavari, aloe juice, saffron and preparations based on them, the composition of chyavanprash. Herbs that balance the mind and calm emotions are useful: brahmi, calamus, bringaraj, jatamamsi, the drug brahma rasayan. Of the tonic herbs of Chinese medicine, tang kwei, rehmannia, lactiferous peony are used, and to calm the mind: jujube, thuja and herbs that strengthen the nerves. From the arsenal of Western herbal medicine, skullcap, valerian and venus slipper are used.

Immediately after surgery, herbs are used to improve tissue healing, especially turmeric and arjuna.

Cysts and tumors of the uterus and breast

Cysts of the uterus or breasts are quite common, especially in childless women. In most cases, these formations are benign, but sometimes they can be reborn. Malignant tumors are firmer to the touch and, as it were, more delineated.

Tumors can be due to imbalance of any dosha, but most often they are associated with kapha when there is a tendency to overweight. Kapha-type tumors are usually benign: these are accumulations of fat or mucus under the skin. Their distinguishing features: swelling, moisture, congestion. Large tumors are easy to remove surgically. Since there is a lot of adipose tissue in the mammary glands, neoplasms occur in them quite easily.

Vata-type tumors are characterized by soreness, dryness, a variety of their localization and size. Representatives of the vata constitution are more prone to fears and fears that a tumor or cyst may be malignant.

Pitta tumors are usually accompanied by burning sensation, swelling, inflammation and infection.

Treatment of cysts and tumors
In benign tumors, in most cases, a regimen aimed at reducing kapha is useful. Sharp and bitter herbs are used to reduce body fat. Good black and red pepper, turmeric, calamus, katuka, "golden seal", barberry, and from the preparations - the composition of trikatu, which must be taken with honey. Honey itself has the ability to reduce fat and reduce tumors. The composition of triphala and other laxatives are also shown.

Herbs that reduce breast swelling include turmeric, saffron, safflower, dandelion, violet, and musta. Milk decoction of saffron helps (with short-term use, the dosage increases to 1-3 g per day).

Treatment for disorders of other doshas is the same as for dysmenorrhea.

In a lighter version, these same treatments can also be used for swelling of the mammary glands before menstruation and during breastfeeding.

Pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis and endometriosis

Acute pelvic inflammatory disease, endometritis, and the like are pitta disorders, indicating heat buildup and blood stasis, accompanied by infection and inflammation. With these diseases, it is often necessary to treat the liver and purify the blood.

The treatment regimen and diet should be aimed at reducing pitta. Spices other than turmeric, coriander and saffron, as well as salt, alcohol, refined sugar should be avoided. Of the oils you can use only coconut and sunflower. Herbs such as shatavari, aloe juice, sarsaparilla, brahmi, dandelion, myrrh, echinacea are shown. In addition, strong bitterness is used: katuka, "golden seal", gentian, bearberry, etc. A composition of shatavari and manjishta in equal parts helps well. Treatment is carried out depending on the characteristics of the course of menstruation (more often these are pitta-type menstruation).

Endometriosis is characterized by an overgrowth of the lining of the uterus, which is predominantly associated with kapha, especially in cases where there is no infection. Treatment is aimed at reducing kapha, reducing tumors and cleansing the body of toxins; at the same time, methods of facilitating therapy are used. Herbs commonly used are guggul, myrrh, turmeric, and dandelion. Black pepper and katuka or golden seal (with honey) are also recommended.

Pregnancy

During pregnancy, a soft nutritious diet is desirable, the use of potent herbs, as well as menstruating, laxative herbs and herbs with toxic properties, should be avoided. It is good to use herbs that have a beneficial effect on deep tissues: shatavari, ashwagandha, bala, white musali, atmagupta.

postpartum period

Immediately after childbirth, herbs are used to help cleanse the uterus and improve blood circulation in the uterus. These are such monthly herbs as saffron, safflower, myrrh, pennyroyal; however, in most cases, they should not be taken for longer than one week.

During the period of breastfeeding, a soft nutritional therapy with the use of dairy products should be continued, especially with vata or pitta constitutions.

Shatavari, marshmallow and licorice increase lactation, which are taken in the form of milk broths. Of the herbs of Chinese medicine, tang kwei and rehmannia are good. Facilitate the release of milk fennel, dandelion and nettle. With excessive lactation or to stop it, sage or lubricating the breast with gruel from mung bean flour helps.

Miscarriage (spontaneous abortion)

Miscarriage, or spontaneous abortion, can occur for various reasons. More often it is a violation of pitta with excessive mobility of the descending air (apana). Kapha women usually carry their pregnancies well, but they are prone to false and ectopic pregnancies. Vata women are more likely to suffer from infertility due to the inability to conceive.

Treatment involves following a pitta-reducing diet and avoiding spicy and oily foods. Useful milk and dairy products. Rest and relaxation are needed, physical exertion and travel should be avoided, exposure to the sun and heat should be limited.

Herbal medicine is aimed at general toning and calming of emotions. If a miscarriage does occur, then first of all, you need to remove all stagnant blood and cleanse the uterus with the help of such monthly herbs: aloe juice, myrrh, turmeric, manjista, and after 1-2 weeks, start tonic therapy.

From Ayurvedic herbs, shatavari, ashwagandha, aloe juice, manjishta and brahmi are used, and from preparations - chyawanprash.

From the means of Chinese medicine, wormwood, eucomia, loranthus are good. Herbs known in Western herbal medicine are red raspberry and gelonias, which are used as additional means.

Infertility

Infertility is usually associated with poor nutrition, underdevelopment of the reproductive organs, and accumulation of fluids or blood stasis.

Vata women are more likely to suffer from infertility, and kapha women are the least affected.

To determine the most suitable time for conception, you can contact an astrologer. Usually more favorable periods when the moon arrives or is in the signs associated with fertility. With the help of astrology, it is possible to determine the ability of a woman to bear children.

Infertility treatment
It is necessary to carry out tonic therapy with a diet that reduces vata and increases kapha, including nutritious, strengthening foods: dairy (especially milk), meat, fish, nuts, and oils such as ghee and sesame. Of the herbs, tonics are primarily used to strengthen the female reproductive system.

Traditional Ayurvedic tonics for women are shown: shatavari, ashwagandha, aloe juice, saffron, licorice, dashamula formulations, and phala grita. Tang Kwei and Rehmannia are used from Chinese medicine herbs, and herbs known in Western herbal medicine are comfrey root, marshmallow, saw palmetto and gelonias.

In cases where the cause of infertility is stagnation or a weakening of all body functions, as, for example, in overweight kapha women, herbs that improve blood circulation and energy movement should be used. Useful are cinnamon, saffron, ginger, myrrh, and preparations such as trikatu and triphala taken with honey. Pitta women are recommended saffron, aloe juice and shatavari.

Dr. Dhania's advice

Why do many women experience physical and emotional discomfort during their period?

In terms of Ayurveda, this is due to the fact that Vata dosha predominates in a woman’s body during this period. She is responsible for the movement in the body, and one of the sub-doshas of Vata - Apana Vata - is responsible for all the processes of excretion, going from top to bottom, including menstrual flow.

An imbalance in Vata typically results in increased emotionality, anxiety, and pain. Therefore, the main part of Ayurvedic recommendations during menstruation is aimed specifically at calming Vata.

The first thing you need to pay attention to is nutrition.

The fact is that the digestive and reproductive systems are closely related and influence each other. During the cycle, the digestive system also becomes vulnerable and the digestive fire is weakened. Therefore, an excessive load on digestion can aggravate your condition during menstruation.

During this period, limit yourself from eating fatty, spicy and heavy foods, try to follow a vegetarian diet.

An excellent alternative to meat is lentils and green mung beans. Like meat, these legumes are high in protein and are much easier to digest. Try also to exclude fermented milk products (kefir, yogurt, sour cream) from the diet, since the fermentation products contained in them can also weaken the intestines.

Eat light, warm, moist, sweet tasting foods that pacify Vata. For this, various cereals with nourishing ghee are perfect. Include more boiled and stewed vegetables in your diet - carrots, broccoli, beets, zucchini. These vegetables contain fiber and water, which is especially good for supporting the female body during menstruation.

During this period, any woman can please herself with sweets! However, it is better to replace artificial sweets (sugar, cookies, buns) with natural ones - dates, gozinaki, sweet dried fruits and fruits. Unlike “chocolates and buns”, natural products not only taste good, but also nourish your body.

We recommend replacing regular white sugar with cane jaggery. Jaggery is rich in calcium, zinc, magnesium and iron. Dates and sesame gozinaki, which also contain all the listed trace elements, as in jaggery, will be an excellent addition to tea drinking. These treats will be especially useful for those who have heavy periods.

During the cycle, it is important to pay attention not only to nutrition, but also to hygiene and daily routine. This will help you avoid various infections and gynecological diseases. Here are some important and useful recommendations for women from Dr. Dhaniya:

1) Use pads, not tampons. Tampons can provoke infections, inflammatory diseases (for example, vaginitis). In addition, tampons are the main cause of endometriosis in women. Dr. Dhaniya analyzed all the cases of endometriosis in her Moscow patients and it turned out that they all used tampons. A tampon, like an “artificial dam”, disrupts the natural course of menstruation and does not allow your body to easily clear itself of all unnecessary.

2) Change the pad as often as possible - every 3 hours or every time you go to the toilet.

3) Take a warm shower more often and drink warm boiled water. This will best calm Vata and help you feel lighter.

4) Avoid physical activity in the first 3 days of the cycle. This rule applies even to those girls who feel great during menstruation. The load on the female body at this time affects imperceptibly and can manifest itself later in the form of various complications.

The first three days of the cycle, a woman, of course, needs peace, but this does not mean that you need to spend all the time in bed.

In addition, daytime sleep is not recommended - it can increase Kapha and slow down the cleansing processes in the body. Go about your normal activities, but do it in an easy way. Allow yourself more rest and go to bed earlier. And replace fitness with a light walk in the park.

Take care of yourself and be healthy!
