Sumerian healers made powders and infusions from the stems and roots of this plant, and dried and crushed jaundice leaves were used as a component of poultices and compresses. Powders of animal and mineral origin were sometimes mixed with powders. Not only water was used as a solvent, but also wine and beer. The Babylonians, who replaced the Sumerians in the 11th century BC, and then the Assyrians, also widely used jaundice for medicinal purposes. They already noticed its beneficial effect on the human heart.
