Is it possible to drink a solution of potassium permanganate in case of poisoning. Potassium permanganate in case of poisoning. Scheme for preparing an aqueous solution

In case of poisoning, potassium permanganate is often used to combat intoxication of the body.

A similar solution for gastric lavage was first used in 1950, in addition, this remedy is widely used today.

Potassium permanganate - what is it?

Potassium permanganate is usually called dark purple crystals. When the product enters the water, it begins to dissolve, coloring it. In medicine, potassium permanganate is called potassium permanganate.

The main property of such a powder is its antiseptic effect, which appears due to the possibility of the appearance of active oxygen.

To date, there are practically no analogues of such a powder that will react with ordinary water and treat people with poisoning. The main property of potassium permanganate in case of poisoning is an oxidizing effect.

After entering the stomach, the solution starts the following processes:

  1. All chemical compounds begin to acquire a form that is not dangerous for the body. Washing as a result of alcohol poisoning is especially useful.
  2. Inside the stomach, a solution of potassium permanganate is able to destroy various bacteria, which become the culprits for the deterioration of a person's condition.

Indications and contraindications

Many people know that potassium permanganate in case of poisoning can quickly alleviate a person's condition. For treatment, a solution of two types is used:

  1. Weak.
  2. Strong.

In case of ordinary food poisoning or light chemicals, it is recommended to use a weak solution of potassium permanganate. A strong solution is used very rarely and is more often used externally.

With the help of a strong remedy, wounds are wiped, as well as purulent skin areas. It can also be used to treat burns.

Despite the benefits of the remedy, potassium permanganate can not always be used and you need to know some contraindications for using the remedy:

  1. It is forbidden to apply the solution to people with hypersensitivity.
  2. Gastric lavage is not carried out in case of irritation of the mucous membrane.
  3. Forbidden for allergies.

Potassium permanganate should be carefully used to treat young children. Although it can be used to wash the stomach in infants, it is prohibited at home.

Solution for poisoning

But, there is little information about the preparation of a remedy for the stomach.

In order for the gastric lavage to be of high quality and effective, it will be necessary to hold the agent in the stomach for as long as possible.

If you induce vomiting immediately after the drug enters the stomach, then the result will not be provided. In this case, the effect will be the same as after washing with plain water.

In some cases, vomiting appears itself after the use of such a remedy.

To make the desired solution, you can go in several ways:

  1. You need to pour a little powder into a small amount of water and make a strong remedy, then add water, diluting the medicine to the desired pale pink color.
  2. There is another method of preparation, where it is enough to dilute 3 potassium permanganate crystals in a liter of liquid. This consistency is suitable for gastric lavage. The main thing is to carefully dilute the crystals in water and be sure to strain everything.

In order not to harm your health, it is necessary to filter the solution of potassium permanganate without fail. Not always crystals can dissolve, and when washed, they can leave burns on the mucous membrane.

At home, filtration can be carried out by passing the finished liquid through 8-10 layers of gauze.

Gastric lavage

Only after preparing the correct solution is it allowed to carry out gastric lavage. In order for the procedure for poisoning to be of high quality, you will need to follow these recommendations:

  1. The solution must be prepared in large quantities; for one procedure, about 3 liters of potassium permanganate are needed.
  2. For the first cleansing, you need to drink about a liter.
  3. Next, you need to artificially provoke vomiting if it does not appear on its own. To do this, press the root of the tongue with your fingers or use a spoon and press on the root.
  4. After the first vomiting, you need to do a second cleansing. In case of poisoning, it is recommended to do 2-3 repetitions.

It is possible to stop the cleansing of the stomach if only water begins to come out during vomiting, without impurities and food residues. In this case, the body will be completely clean and free from pathogens.

There are people who believe that potassium permanganate should be used to induce vomiting, because after taking it, vomiting quickly appears on its own.

But this is not entirely true, since vomiting can occur when drinking large amounts of liquid at a time, and not because of the composition of potassium permanganate.

In this regard, if it is not possible to prepare a solution, then plain water is used, where salt or soda can be added.

The main advantage of potassium permanganate is that the crystals can cleanse the walls of the gastrointestinal tract, where toxins, poisons and other substances are collected in case of poisoning.

Precautionary measures

Since the powder is considered an active and strong substance, it is recommended to know the safety measures before using a crystal-based solution.

When preparing a solution, the following rules must be considered:

  1. It is necessary to prepare the solution in a transparent glass container so that the dilution process can be seen.
  2. Fluid filtration is essential before external and internal use.
  3. If a strong solution enters the stomach, then methemoglobinemia and burns may begin.

With methemoglobinemia, a person in the body begins to lack oxygen. It becomes small for the normal functioning of organs and tissues.

The kidneys take the first blow of pathology, after which other organs suffer.

If a strong solution accidentally enters the body, you will need to urgently call an ambulance for medical assistance.

In this case, treatment can be carried out with an antidote, namely methylene blue solution. It is used only for internal administration in the exact dose. It is almost impossible to provide such assistance at home.

In addition, in case of an overdose of potassium permanganate, the antidote will need to be administered in large volumes, which also adds to the danger, since not every hospital or clinic has a large amount of such an agent.

It is worth noting some rules for storing useful powder. In order for the properties and action to be preserved, as well as the crystals not to become poison, you will need to follow these rules:

  1. The storage container must be tightly closed.
  2. From the sun's rays, the product should be as far away as possible.
  3. The humidity in the storage area should not be high.

It is forbidden to shake the container with crystals, because in some cases the container may explode. It is potassium permanganate that is used for fireworks.

Useful video

Everyone is familiar with potassium permanganate. A solution of potassium permanganate, prepared in a certain way, is a powerful drug that helps get rid of the effects of intoxication and poisoning. In addition, the solution is used as an antiseptic for discomfort in the throat.

What is potassium permanganate and what is its use

Potassium permanganate in case of poisoning has a strong, complex effect on the body:

  • destroys the cause of intoxication;
  • beneficial effect on the mucous membrane of the digestive system.

How potassium permanganate works

The main healing effect is antiseptic. In contact with organic substances, potassium permanganate releases atomic oxygen, which is highly active. Its action is aimed at eliminating elements that are unusual, alien to the body. Atomic oxygen is recognized as the strongest antioxidant capable of coping with any pathogenic microflora, this applies to fungi, viruses, bacteria, toxins.

Permanganate solution is used in several cases:

  • for gastric lavage with severe alcohol intoxication;
  • with food poisoning;
  • in gynecology;
  • for cauterization of wounds.

Note: The saturation of the solution depends on the specific problem to be solved, it is important to strictly observe the proportions, otherwise the liquid will be ineffective or cause even more harm.

How to properly prepare a preparation based on potassium permanganate

Many sources recommend rinsing the stomach with ordinary boiled water in case of food poisoning. Thus, it is impossible to eliminate the cause of intoxication. A solution of potassium permanganate in case of poisoning has a disinfecting effect. In no case should you add crystals to the eye. Before use, it is necessary to strain the liquid through several layers of gauze (at least eight) so that the powder crystals do not end up inside the body, otherwise the chemical will burn the gastric mucosa.

How to use potassium permanganate

Gastric lavage with potassium permanganate is effective for various food poisonings:

  • poor quality or expired product;
  • intoxication with methyl alcohol;
  • canned food;
  • mushrooms.

In this situation, it is important to rinse the stomach as quickly as possible, thereby cleansing the body of toxins and poison. The liquid is drunk in small sips at regular intervals.

For preparation, it is necessary to add the crystals to water and mix thoroughly until they are completely dissolved. The liquid is then filtered through eight layers of gauze. If the solution is too saturated, six liters of water are added to it. The usable liquid has a faint pink tint.

A solution of potassium permanganate for the treatment of a child

Potassium permanganate is a fairly powerful oxidizing agent, it should not be allowed to affect the children's body. In addition, at home it is very easy to make a mistake in concentration and prepare a solution that is too saturated.

If the child needs immediate help and his condition is critical, and there are no medicines in the home medicine cabinet, you can prepare a solution of potassium permanganate. For this, two crystals of potassium permanganate per liter of water are enough. The child should drink half a glass.

Contraindications to the use of potassium permanganate

Treatment with potassium permanganate is contraindicated in people with hypersensitivity to this substance. In this case, the risk of developing is significantly increased:

  • irritation of the skin;
  • allergic rhinitis;
  • allergic bronchitis.

If the body is prone to allergic reactions, it is forbidden to use potassium permanganate.

Precautionary measures

Potassium permanganate is a powerful active substance, so it is important to adhere to the rules for its storage and monitor the expiration date. Here are some recommendations for the use of potassium permanganate:

  • it is necessary to prepare the solution only in a transparent glass container;
  • after the crystals dissolve, the liquid must be filtered through eight layers of gauze;
  • the use of an excessively saturated solution prevents the circulation of oxygen and its entry into tissues and organs;
  • manganese powder should be stored in a tightly closed container and out of the reach of children;
  • you can not shake the container with the powder, otherwise an explosion and ignition is possible, which is why it is impossible to find potassium permanganate in free sale;
  • the shelf life of potassium permanganate in the liquid state is five years, manganese crystals do not have an expiration date;
  • when applied externally, the skin acquires a brownish tint, this is acceptable;
  • it is categorically impossible to use a solution of potassium permanganate to terminate a pregnancy, there is a high risk of bleeding, burns and life-threatening complications;
  • after preparation, you can not store the liquid in enameled containers, it interacts with the metal and the medicinal qualities lose their strength.

Alternative solution of potassium permanganate

You can replace potassium permanganate with antimicrobial drugs. In case of food poisoning, it is advisable to choose a local agent, that is, intestinal antiseptics. The active substances of the drug act directly on the cause of the poisoning.

In case of mild poisoning, you can use antiseptics of plant origin, for example, Rotokan, a drug based on chamomile, yarrow and calendula extract. This combination of medicinal herbs has a powerful bactericidal effect.

The use of a solution of potassium permanganate in case of poisoning is safe and quite effective, provided that the drug is properly stored and all recommendations are observed when preparing the drug.

Widely known among the people, potassium permanganate in some cases can be useful in the treatment of problems caused by alcohol. How to use potassium permanganate for alcohol intoxication in the main part of the article.

Healing properties of potassium permanganate

Potassium permanganate, so colloquially often referred to as potassium permanganate, which is a chemical compound of potassium permanganate. This substance is a strong oxidizing agent. The people do not use the crystals of potassium permanganate themselves.

The well-known purple, raspberry or pink aqueous solution is used. In this form, potassium permanganate is used both for household purposes and for the needs of hygiene procedures.

Potassium permanganate solution exhibits antiseptic properties, can neutralize the toxic effects on the body of some toxic compounds, such as morphine, aconitine, and other alkaloids to a lesser extent, as well as phosphorus, if they were taken orally.

It is important to understand that for medicinal purposes, only a weakly concentrated solution of potassium permanganate can be used. It is strictly contraindicated to use a concentrated solution of potassium permanganate saturated purple.

Indeed, in this case, instead of a healing action, it will have the opposite effect. Significant can be inflicted, in honesty, burns of the skin and surfaces of the mucous membranes and poisoning are caused.

The use of potassium permanganate for medical purposes

Useful activity, healing properties of potassium permanganate are successfully used for medical purposes. An aqueous solution of potassium permanganate is used as an antiseptic for washing wounds (at a concentration of up to 5 to 10 ppm), rinsing the mouth, treating burns, and treating ulcerative skin lesions.

In gynecology, potassium permanganate is used in the treatment of diseases of the male genital area, and potassium permanganate is also used in women for douching and washing.

Potassium permanganate and alcohol

A 0.02-0.1% aqueous solution of potassium permanganate is also used for the most common alcohol poisoning, namely alcohol intoxication. As already noted, a solution of potassium permanganate is effective in a predominantly acute nature. Therefore, it is often used, along with a solution of baking soda, for gastric lavage in acute alcohol poisoning.

For the same purpose, potassium permanganate can be used for poisoning from ingested morphine and phosphorus compounds. But the use of potassium permanganate for medicinal purposes in case of poisoning with cocaine, barbiturates, atropine is ineffective.

A weak solution of potassium permanganate can be useful when taken orally, not only in case of poisoning with alcohol surrogates. Although in this case, he is actively fighting fusel oils and other harmful impurities of "scorched" alcohol.

After a binge, people often experience disturbances in the digestive tract, such as diarrhea or, in rare cases, constipation. Taking two to three glasses of a pink solution of potassium permanganate inside, especially when combined with the subsequent setting of an enema 2-3 times a day, as a rule, significantly improves the patient's condition.

As a result, he complains much less about pain in the stomach, and the normalization of excretory processes improves the natural detoxification processes. As concomitant beneficial effects, there is often a decrease in nausea after alcohol abuse.

Potassium permanganate, or potassium permanganate, is a dark purple powder, which consists of small crystals that form a bright red solution when diluted in water. Usually the component is sold in sachets or in bottles, the capacity of which is 10g. The drug is suitable for use for five years from the date of its production. The remedy is known for its antiseptic action.

Potassium permanganate is able to deactivate various chemicals, including alcohol. The component destroys the cell walls of microorganisms that cause food poisoning. Also, the tool is used to prevent the negative effects on the human body of phosphorus, alkaloids, strong acids, quinine.

How to breed potassium permanganate in case of poisoning

Gastric lavage with potassium permanganate is an old proven method practiced by more than one generation. In the treatment of both a child and an adult, it is not necessary to dissolve the substance in water “by eye”.

So how to breed potassium permanganate in case of poisoning? For safe use, the concentration of the solution should not exceed 0.1%. You can take 1 g of powder, dilute it in 0.1 l of water, and then add liquid until a weak solution of a pale pink color is obtained.

How to take a solution of potassium permanganate

To wash the stomach with potassium permanganate, you need to take a sufficiently large amount of solution. Before giving the liquid to the patient, it is necessary to pass it through several layers of gauze. Thus, it is possible to get rid of undissolved crystals that should not enter the human body. You will have to drink until the gag reflex occurs.

If this does not happen, induce vomiting should be artificial. Potassium permanganate cleanses the mucous walls of harmful substances of various origins. Vomiting does not occur from the component itself, but from the amount of fluid taken.

Potassium permanganate poisoning

If you follow the instructions and correctly dilute the substance in water, then with its help you can quickly and effectively treat almost any poisoning. However, by incorrectly calculating the dose of the powder, it is easy to run into such a problem as potassium permanganate poisoning. It is easy to diagnose by:

  • too much vomiting;
  • dehydration;
  • diarrhea
  • redness of the skin;
  • acute pain in the stomach;
  • swelling of the larynx;
  • convulsions;
  • the appearance of shortness of breath.

If you experience such symptoms, you should immediately seek the advice of professional doctors.

Doctors' opinion

Many are interested in the question, do doctors allow to take a solution of potassium permanganate in case of poisoning? Doctors allow the treatment of alcoholic, food and other poisonings with a solution of potassium permanganate. But first, it is recommended to conduct a complete diagnosis of the whole organism. The presence of chronic diseases of the gastrointestinal tract may be a contraindication to the use of the considered method. It is worth using the component especially carefully when it comes to treating a child.

Using manganese as an antidote is not recommended for people suffering from hypersensitivity. Allergy sufferers and patients with weakened immune systems should also refuse to use the component. When diluting the powder, it is best to use distilled water.

Poisoning is a pathological process in which an intoxication of the gastrointestinal tract with various chemicals or pathogenic microorganisms develops. When the first symptoms of intoxication are detected, it is recommended to wash the stomach with potassium permanganate. This procedure will alleviate the condition and avoid complications. But it must be carried out correctly, following the instructions and the recommended dosage. It is important to know what the concentration of the solution should be, and how potassium permanganate acts on the human body.

In this article, we will consider how and when potassium permanganate can be used for intoxication, and in what cases it is contraindicated.

What is potassium permanganate?

Potassium permanganate (potassium permanganate) is a chemical substance belonging to the group of oxidizing agents. It contains potassium, manganese and oxygen. It looks like small dark purple crystals. Easily and quickly dissolves in water.

Potassium permanganate is an effective deodorant. Upon contact with proteins, it releases oxygen, forming manganese oxide.

Potassium permanganate solution is widely used in many industries:

  • in medicine;
  • in production;
  • in industry.

It is used to treat wounds, cuts, burns, inflammation of mucous surfaces, to disinfect water when bathing babies.

Nowadays, potassium permanganate is difficult to find on pharmacy shelves; it is sold only according to a prescription issued by a doctor. This limitation is due to the fact that potassium permanganate is used in the manufacture of certain drugs.

How does potassium permanganate help with poisoning?

Potassium permanganate during intoxication is used to cleanse the stomach cavity. It provokes vomiting and cleanses the stomach, neutralizing the action of toxins and microorganisms. In addition, a solution of potassium permanganate stops the development of fermentation, exhibits an astringent and antiseptic effect.

Manganese sulfate blocks the action and spread of poisons. Effective in combating poisoning caused by:

  • food products;
  • alcohol;
  • nicotine;
  • morphine;
  • quinine;
  • hydrocyanic acid;
  • phosphorus.

Upon contact of manganese sulfate with a bacterial agent, a chemical reaction develops, as a result of which pathogenic microorganisms die.

Important! It should be remembered that pediatricians do not approve of the use of potassium permanganate solution in childhood. The child may choke or inhale it, which will burn the respiratory tract. In addition, it is contraindicated to carry out gastric lavage for children on their own. This procedure is done exclusively by a medical professional using a probe.

To cleanse the stomach, you can use only a weak solution of potassium permanganate. Exceeding the recommended concentration will only worsen the situation and cause damage to internal organs.

Contraindications to the use of potassium permanganate

Potassium permanganate is a potent chemical, so in some cases it cannot be used. Contraindications include:

  • children's age up to 3 years;
  • the presence of an allergic reaction;
  • chronic diseases - asthma, bronchitis, rhinitis;
  • gastrointestinal bleeding;
  • poisoning with alkali or acid;
  • impaired consciousness of the victim.

Main Applications

Potassium permanganate when sending can be used in different ways. Its solution is used for:

  • cleansing the stomach;
  • internal use to bind toxins or as a fixing agent;
  • internal administration to induce vomiting.

However, it should be borne in mind that the concentration of the solution in each case will vary. Therefore, we will consider in detail how to drink potassium permanganate and prepare a solution for the above purposes.

Use for gastric lavage

A solution of potassium permanganate when administered can be used at home to quickly cleanse the stomach cavity of toxins and poisons. It should be weakly concentrated to prevent burns of the mucous membranes of the mouth, stomach or esophagus.

You can prepare the solution yourself or buy it in a pharmacy ready-made (with a concentration of the active substance - 0.02-0.01%). For washing, only freshly prepared manganese solution can be used.

Let us consider in more detail how to dilute potassium permanganate in case of poisoning:

  • 4-5 crystals of potassium permanganate are added to 1 liter of clean boiled water. Stir;
  • you should make sure that the color of the water is weak. If the solution is too concentrated, add a little more water;
  • before drinking the liquid, it is necessary to strain it through a layer of gauze to exclude the presence of whole grains of manganese;
  • the finished water should be dark pink (not burgundy) in color, and at the same time it is necessary that it retains its transparency. For children, a light pink solution is prepared by adding a little more water;
  • if a ready-made pharmacy solution of manganese (1-3%) is used, it is diluted with water per 1 liter of pure water - 3-5 drops of the product. In this case, it is additionally worth focusing on the color of the diluted liquid. It should also have a deep pink hue;
  • adults should drink 2 liters of solution, and children (from 3 to 14 years old) - 1-1.5 liters.

Ingestion to bind toxins and fight diarrhea

The question of whether it is possible to drink water prepared with manganese salts in case of poisoning remains controversial. Some sources claim that potassium permanganate does not help alleviate the condition. But practical experience and traditional medicine indicate otherwise.

  • oral solution is prepared according to the same scheme as described in the previous section. However, the color of the liquid should be light pink, as for children;
  • 1 crystal of the substance is taken per 150 ml of water;
  • enough to drink 100-150 ml of rose water. It is impossible to increase the volume;
  • take this remedy once.

Potassium permanganate destroys pathogenic microflora and binds toxins. In this way, an antidiarrheal effect is also achieved.

Use to induce vomiting

The vomiting effect after taking water with potassium permanganate is due to the specific and unpleasant taste of the drug, as well as its ability to irritate the stomach receptors.

To induce vomiting, potassium permanganate must be diluted according to the following scheme:

  • 3 manganese crystals are added to 200-250 ml of purified water;
  • the color of the liquid should be slightly darker than during the treatment of diarrhea;
  • rose water is taken once in a volume of 200-250 ml before cleansing the stomach or instead of such a procedure.

Symptoms of an overdose of potassium permanganate

Improper preparation of potassium permanganate solution can worsen the patient's condition and lead to more severe poisoning. It is also possible damage to the mucous surface of the mouth, esophagus or stomach.

You can recognize an overdose of potassium permanganate by the following signs:

  • severe pain and burning in the stomach or esophagus;
  • a sharp appearance of weakness and deterioration of well-being;
  • pale skin;
  • staining of the oral cavity and tongue in purple (blue) color;
  • profuse diarrhea;
  • severe respiratory failure (shortness of breath, shallow breathing);
  • cramps and muscle pain;
  • loss of consciousness.

Poisoning with potassium permanganate is also dangerous because it provokes hemolysis - the breakdown of red blood cells, due to which anemia and hypoxia appear in the patient. If symptoms of an overdose are detected, it is urgent to call a medical team.

Finally

Potassium permanganate is a remedy used for gastric lavage during intoxication. It helps to quickly neutralize the action of toxic substances. But it is important to properly prepare the solution, strictly following the recommended dosage. Improperly prepared water with potassium permanganate is dangerous for the body, it can aggravate the condition and cause severe poisoning or burns. Only caution and proper use of potassium permanganate guarantee a positive result!
