Contraindications

Celandine is a poisonous plant, therefore, exceeding the dosage is dangerous with complete paralysis of the nervous system, severe convulsions. The initial signs of poisoning are thirst, a feeling of heaviness in the head, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, clouding of consciousness. If negative symptoms appear, it is necessary to do a gastric lavage, call a doctor.

Main contraindications:

  • bronchial asthma;
  • neurological pathologies, epilepsy, irritability, chronic insomnia;
  • obvious manifestations of angina pectoris;
  • hypotension - the plant helps to reduce arterial parameters.

Medicines based on celandine should not be used by children, pregnant and lactating women.

Celandine is able to provoke the appearance of dysbacteriosis, therefore, after the end of therapy, you should definitely drink probiotics.

Herbalists use two techniques for preparing tinctures. In the first case, dried grass, collected during the period of active flowering, is tightly placed in a jar and filled to the top with vodka. The composition is insisted in a dark place for 20 days, after which it is filtered and again diluted with vodka by half of the volume obtained.

This composition is used for oral administration to normalize liver function, from atherosclerosis, stomach ulcers. There are reviews of its use in gynecology for the treatment of female diseases: fibroids, ovarian cysts, cervical erosion. But the effectiveness in relation to diseases of a hormonal nature is not confirmed by science. Moreover, the herbalists themselves are not unanimous about the possibility of using the remedy as a cure for hormone-dependent diseases.

Another technique for preparing a tincture involves preserving the juice of a medicinal plant. “Celandine juice, in my opinion, is much more effective,” notes herbalist Andrei Varennikov. - It contains all the active substances in a much higher concentration. Therefore, for the treatment of oncology, it is necessary to take it.”

Properties of celandine juice

The composition is extremely rich in alkaloids, therefore it is a toxic agent. When preparing and using it, it is important to exercise extreme caution. The celandine contains active neuroparalytic poisons, a high dosage of which can lead to respiratory arrest. In strictly controlled quantities, they become a cure for a number of diseases.

  • Oral use. Folk remedy for cancer. Used for all types of cancer and for its prevention.
  • outdoor use. The tool is effective for the skin, as it has a keratolytic and anti-inflammatory effect. It is used to treat herpetic eruptions, warts, dry calluses.
  • Mucosal treatments. Canned juice treats polyps. In official medicine, there is a technique for treating rectal polyps with a solution of diluted celandine juice. The drug solution is administered in the form of enemas at the rate of 5-7 drops of canned juice per 50 ml of water. Use after a cleansing enema 2 times a day. High keratolytic activity causes necrotic processes in the body of polyps. They are destroyed and fall off, which occurs within 14-20 days. A similar technique is used to remove polyps in the nasopharynx.

In pediatric therapeutic practice, the drug is not used due to the high risk of poisoning. Even external treatments are dangerous, as a child may inadvertently swallow the medicine.

For the treatment of inflammatory and dermatological diseases of the skin, celandine tincture on alcohol is not used due to its irritating ability, aggressive effect on the skin. The anti-inflammatory properties of celandine are used in the form of an aqueous infusion, which is used to treat dermatoses, psoriasis, and burn surfaces. Water infusion has a decongestant, wound-healing effect.

Cooking technique

To prepare the product, use freshly harvested celandine grass. It is better to prepare it with a root, in which the concentration of active substances is much higher than in the herbal part. Carry out work with gloves, so you protect the skin from chemical burns that can provoke juice. And be careful not to turn it brown - another "side effect" of the juice.

Cooking

  1. Cut fresh raw materials into pieces 1-2 cm long.
  2. Grind in a manual meat grinder.
  3. Wrap the mass in a cloth, twist into a knot and wring it out with force.
  4. Pour the juice into a glass container, close the lid, and refrigerate for two days.
  5. Drain the settled juice into a clean glass container, avoiding mixing with the sediment.
  6. Pour vodka into the resulting juice at the rate of 1 liter per half liter of juice.

The resulting product can be stored for a long time in a cool place, tightly sealed in a glass container.

It is impossible to buy canned celandine juice in a pharmacy. Pharmaceutical compositions are prepared according to the traditional method, insisting dried grass on alcohol.

Application in medicine

In official medicine, the remedy is used extremely rarely. The reason for this is its toxicity, although, according to some researchers, this quality of celandine is exaggerated. Candidate of Medical Sciences Anatoly Potopalsky speaks about this in the monograph "Celandine preparations in biology and medicine."

So, clinical data confirmed the antispasmodic activity of an agent that can quickly relieve spasms of moderate and moderate severity in the digestive tract. In medicine in some countries it is used to reduce the manifestation of intestinal dyspepsia: with flatulence, colic. In reliable sources there are data on the use in the treatment of skin diseases.

Anatoly Potopalsky also notes other areas in which there is evidence of the successful use of celandine juice.

  • Botkin's disease (jaundice, infectious hepatitis). The use of tincture of celandine on alcohol improves liver function. According to A. Potopalsky, the agent has bactericidal activity, normalizes the functioning of the liver and other parts of the gastrointestinal tract. In the experiment, 15-20 drops were used three times a day for two weeks. These properties are confirmed by the results of a WHO study. The antihepatoxic effect was shown by an experiment on rats, which were injected with an aqueous-alcoholic extract of celandine into the stomach in the presence of toxic liver damage. The drug lowered the level of bilirubin and the activity of enzymes - indicators of the inflammatory process. Liver tissues were freed from fibrosis, a decrease in the number of necrotic cells was observed.
  • Cholecystitis, cholelithiasis. Treatment of patients was carried out with tincture of 15 drops three times a day. A diet was prescribed that excluded fatty and fried foods. Within twenty days, patients experienced a decrease in pain, spasms of the bile ducts, and the patency of the gallbladder returned.
  • peptic ulcer. The treatment of patients with duodenal ulcers with celandine juice was carried out by the doctor N. I. Dekermendzhi. The drug was used one teaspoon before meals for twenty days. During treatment, there was a general improvement in the condition of patients, normalization of gastric acidity, increased appetite. Patients gained weight by 1-2.5 kilograms. Four of the twelve patients who participated in the experiment recovered completely, in others the “niche” symptom was not detected during x-ray examination. The result was preserved after two months, when a control X-ray examination was performed.

When using the preparation of celandine, no negative effects on the body and toxicity were noted. However, the researchers note that compliance with the dosage is of the utmost importance. A relatively safe dosage is 10 to 15 drops per dose.

Cancer treatment

The antitumor activity of celandine has been studied repeatedly, but this method of treatment has not received wide distribution. Currently, the medicinal plant is given much less attention than half a century ago. The reason for this is the widespread dissemination of information about unsuccessful experiments, which convinced the scientific world of the futility of research. However, A. Potopalsky cites data from successful studies that can become the basis for new clinical trials.

At the end of the nineteenth century, the therapy of oncological diseases with tincture of celandine was carried out everywhere. A number of doctors have reported an improvement in the condition of patients with oncological diseases of the mammary glands, uterus, and vagina.

The most effective drugs based on the extract of celandine turned out to be in relation to skin cancer of various localization. There have been cases of complete recovery even at advanced stages with multiple metastases.

The researchers associated the effectiveness of therapy with the activity of the alkaloids chelidonine, sanguinarine and berberine. Their action was quite fully studied at the end of the 19th century in the wake of the general interest of medicine in the antitumor activity of celandine. However, in the same period, information began to come in about the inconstancy of the action of the medicinal extract.

Some scientists associate them with the low quality of celandine medicinal preparations, which began to produce pharmacological production. Others have given up research entirely. For almost fifty years, the practice of using celandine was abandoned and forgotten. And only in the middle of the 20th century it was resumed by Ukrainian scientists who collected information about the clinical use of the drug in medicine of different peoples and in Soviet Russia. In the mid-1950s, the plant was included in the State Pharmacopoeia of the USSR.

Activity against malignant neoplasms was studied in animals. Soviet scientist K. P. Balitsky carried out a series of experiments on rats with artificially induced sarcoma and carcinoma. Celandine extract, administered subcutaneously, caused inhibition of neoplasm development. In some cases, already on the fifth day of treatment, the tumor resolved completely.

Antitumor activity was also confirmed by WHO studies, the results of which were published in the 2010 Monograph. The test was carried out on rats with tumor neoplasms in the stomach. The introduction of celandine extract reduced the severity of the tumor, which was recorded at the laboratory autopsy.

When using water and alcohol infusions, the toxic effect of the drug was not recorded.

Royal technique

At home, treatment is carried out according to the "royal method". It involves a gradual increase in dosage. “Specific dosage recommendations are difficult to give,” says herbalist Andrey Varennikov. “After all, someone needs the treatment of only a discovered disease, and for someone, the tincture becomes the last hope.”

  • Prevention - once a year. A sufficient preventive course is considered to be a “slide”, carried out once during the year.
  • Treatment - according to well-being. It is important to monitor the general condition during the period of taking the remedy. Each organism adapts to it in its own way. The average dosage is 10-15 drops, but even for cancer patients, the dosage should not exceed more than two teaspoons per day. If you feel worse, it is important to reduce the dosage.
  • Take diluted. Drops should be diluted in water or milk in a volume of up to one hundred milliliters. Some herbalists recommend diluting the tincture in an aqueous infusion of celandine. Herbalist Andrei Varennikov explains this recommendation as follows: the alkaloids of a medicinal plant can only be extracted with alcohol, but some of them remain in the grass and precipitate in the form of salts. To use all the active substances, it is necessary to drip the tincture into the aqueous infusion of celandine. To prepare it, you should brew a spoonful of dried grass with a glass of boiling water and let it brew for 40 minutes. After that, drain the infusion and use it to dissolve alcohol drops.
  • Use detoxicants. During the treatment period, it is necessary to consume pure milk and fermented milk products, which improve the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and reduce the toxic effects of the drug.

In small doses, celandine tincture has a calming effect, slows down the activity of the heart, and lowers blood pressure.

Celandine tincture on whey is less effective than alcohol. It does not allow extracting active alkaloids from medicinal raw materials, which is achieved only with the help of alcohol.

Side effects

The recommendations of herbalists are based on personal experience and data collected from available printed sources. Unfortunately, they do not always reflect a holistic picture of the impact of medicinal herbs on the human body. There is practically no data on the side effects of celandine, although its toxic effects on the body are well known.

The WHO monograph noted side effects that can be observed in the treatment of celandine tincture.

  • Nausea, gastrointestinal symptoms. They are associated with excessive drug intake.
  • Inflammation of the liver. There have been cases of increased levels of liver enzymes, bilirubin and general inflammation of the liver tissues. The phenomena passed after the completion of the reception of the remedy.
  • Acute hepatitis. There are data on ten cases of acute hepatitis of moderate and severe degree, which arose as a result of the use of alcohol infusion of celandine. Patients had bile stasis and primary tissue damage. After completion of therapy, a rapid recovery occurred with the return of liver parameters to normal.

Due to the potential for side effects, WHO does not recommend the use of celandine preparations for a long time. Treatment should be limited to one to four weeks. In the presence of gallstones, self-treatment is not recommended. And courses should be carried out in consultation with the doctor.

Tincture of celandine on alcohol can be used without restrictions for external skin treatments. It will become an effective tool in the treatment of skin diseases and diseases of the mucous membranes, where it is important to dry up and remove local formations: herpetic rash, dry corn, wart, polyp. The drug has proven antitumor activity, but oral use requires medical supervision. Exceeding the dosage and prolonged use can lead to toxic liver damage.

The properties of alcohol tincture of celandine are widely used in folk medicine for the treatment of many diseases. Due to the content of several toxic substances in the plant, preparations based on it can have a depressing effect on the fungus and pathogens of various types. The use of celandine tincture in oncology slows down the growth of cancer cells. The tool is used externally and internally.

    Useful properties of celandine

    A herbaceous plant with small yellow flowers can be found in any area. A feature of celandine is the release of bright yellow juice when the stem is broken. It contains a huge amount of useful substances and plant poisons, which are widely used in folk and official medicine for the treatment of skin diseases.

    Studies of the medicinal properties of celandine have shown that preparations based on it are effective against certain pathologies of the liver and kidneys. The toxic substances that make up the herb can inhibit and inhibit the development of cancer cells.

    The plant contains about 20 types of different alkaloids, each of which can affect the body as a separate substance and in combination with others:

    1. 1. Berberine promotes the excretion of bile.
    2. 2. Sangviritrin has an anticholinesterase effect.
    3. 3. Chelidonin relieves spasms, has analgesic and sedative effects.

    Thanks to the complex of substances contained in it, celandine can be used as a means of:

    • anti-inflammatory;
    • antiviral;
    • antibacterial;
    • fungicidal;
    • hypotensive;
    • cytotoxic;
    • cytostatic.

    Preparations based on celandine are used in medicine to reduce the reactivity of the nervous system. In case of violations of the intestines, the plant can be used as a means of enhancing the peristalsis of the organ. The property to tone the muscles of the uterus is used in gynecology. The most popular use of celandine is for the treatment of wounds and ulcers on the skin and some organs. Since ancient times, an infusion of herbs has been used as a decoction for bathing babies. This is the easiest way to save a child from prickly heat and diaper rash.

    Celandine in its natural form is rarely used for treatment. Means on water and tinctures on vodka, prepared from dry and fresh raw materials, are more effective for therapy. Often, celandine juice is preserved with alcohol for the possibility of long-term use of this seasonal product.

    How to make a tincture

    Celandine tincture is prepared with vodka or alcohol. It is allowed to use dry or fresh grass (depending on the season). Dry raw materials can be bought at a pharmacy or prepared independently.

    Drugs produced by pharmaceutical companies may contain additional ingredients. The rules of use and dosage are contained in the instructions for use of each remedy.

    You can collect celandine from spring to autumn, during the flowering period. The roots of the plant are also used to make tinctures. But these drugs are too concentrated. It is necessary to observe the exact proportions in their manufacture.

    Grass, along with flowers, is harvested in clear, dry weather. To dry, you can tie the stems into small bundles and hang them in a dark and well-ventilated area. Properly cooked grass should have a light green hue.

    The homemade recipe is simple. The container must be filled up to half with dry chopped grass. Pour an equal volume of high-quality vodka. Infuse for 2 to 3 weeks, shaking regularly. Strain the finished tincture through 4 layers of gauze and squeeze. It should be an unsaturated brown color.

    In a similar way, you can prepare a tincture of fresh celandine grass. Pour vodka over washed and chopped stems with flowers and leaves so that the liquid covers the raw material by about 2 cm. Leave for at least 2 weeks, strain and squeeze.

    Application externally

    For the treatment of skin diseases, tincture is used externally - in the form of lotions and lotions. Before use, it is worth checking the likelihood of allergic reactions. To do this, with a moistened swab, you need to apply a small amount of tincture to the skin at the elbow and leave until completely dry. There may be slight tingling due to exposure to alcohol.

    For the treatment of acne in adolescents, tincture is used as an additional means of cleansing the face. To avoid overdrying of the skin, the drug should be diluted with boiled, cooled water. It is necessary to wipe the steamed and washed skin with a moistened swab, paying special attention to the inflamed areas.

    This procedure helps to reduce fat content and stop the inflammatory process. Regular and long-term use of celandine tincture in combination with the means recommended by a dermatologist will relieve acne and pimples.

    It is not recommended for the treatment of burns and wounds.

    How to take the tincture

    Studies conducted at the Ivanov-Frankivsk Medical Academy have shown that the active substances that make up celandine have an antioxidant property and are able to resist free radicals and their harmful effects on the body.

    Thanks to the findings of scientists, it became possible to use the tincture in the treatment of serious diseases of the liver, respiratory system and digestion.
